| 1 | Grazing effects on herbage nutritive values depend on precipitation and growing season in Inner Mongolian grassland显示文摘Aims Grasslands are widely used for production of livestock,which depend on the nutritive value of herbage species.However,there are still large uncertainties as to how grazing,precipitation and growing season interactively affect herbage nutritive value.Methods Here,based on a grazing experiment with seven grazing intensities in an Inner Mongolian grassland since the year 2005,we analysed nutritive value of four dominant grass species from June to September in both a relatively wetter year(2008)and a drier year(2010).Herbage with high nutritive value is characterized by high concentration of crude protein,high concentration of cellulase digestible organic matter and low concentration of neutral detergent fibre.Important Findings We found that(i)grazing significantly increased the nutritive value of Leymus chinensis,Agropyron michnoi and Cleistogenes squarrosa but had minor effects on the nutritive value of Stipa grandis.(ii)For all species,nutritive values were greater in the wetter year than in the drier year and were greatest in the early growing season(June)and lowest at the end of the growing season(September).Inter-annual and inter-seasonal variations in nutritive value were much greater for L.chinensis and A.michnoi than for C.squarrosa and S.grandis,suggesting higher water use efficiency for the latter two species.(iii)Grazing significantly decreased the drought resistance of three species,but not of S.grandis.(iv)Grazing significantly increased inter-month variation in nutritive value for L.chinensis and A.michnoi but had relatively minor or no effects on that of C.squarrosa and S.grandis.Therefore,grazing effects on species nutritive values showed strong inter-annual and seasonal patterns,and species-specific responses might be related to species traits(i.e.water use efficiency,digestibility).Our results have important implications for ecosystem management of arid and semiarid grasslands under intense grazing and global climatic change. | Haiyan Ren Guodong Han Zhichun Lan Hongwei Wan Philipp Schönbach Martin Gierus Friedhelm Taube | 2016 | Journal of Plant Ecology2016,9,6: | 14 |

| 4 | Combining Committee-Based Semi-Supervised Learning and Active Learning显示文摘Many data mining applications have a large amount of data but labeling data is usually difficult,expensive,or time consuming,as it requires human experts for annotation.Semi-supervised learning addresses this problem by using unlabeled data together with labeled data in the training process.Co-Training is a popular semi-supervised learning algorithm that has the assumptions that each example is represented by multiple sets of features(views) and these views are sufficient for learning and independent given the class.However,these assumptions are strong and are not satisfied in many real-world domains.In this paper,a single-view variant of Co-Training,called Co-Training by Committee(CoBC) is proposed,in which an ensemble of diverse classifiers is used instead of redundant and independent views.We introduce a new labeling confidence measure for unlabeled examples based on estimating the local accuracy of the committee members on its neighborhood.Then we introduce two new learning algorithms,QBC-then-CoBC and QBC-with-CoBC,which combine the merits of committee-based semi-supervised learning and active learning.The random subspace method is applied on both C4.5 decision trees and 1-nearest neighbor classifiers to construct the diverse ensembles used for semi-supervised learning and active learning.Experiments show that these two combinations can outperform other non committee-based ones. | Mohamed Farouk Abdel Hady Friedhelm Schwenker | 2010 | Journal of Computer Science & Technology2010,25,4: | 5 |
| 5 | FerryBox: Using Automated Water Measurement Systems to Monitor Water Quality: Perspectives for the Yangtze River and Three Gorges Dam显示文摘The building of the Three Gorges Dam (Hubei (湖北) Province, China) has transformed a region with an economy based on sustainable agriculture for millennia into an entirely different environment within an exceptionally short time. This disrupts the natural biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nutrients, and metals and possibly will affect the whole catchment including downstream ecosystems, such as wetlands, estuaries, deltas, and adjacent sea areas. Starting from changes that have already been documented, this article concentrates on the possible use of a 'FerryBox', which is an automated water quality measurement system on board a ship or on shore, to monitor the short and long term development of the quality of the river water in the backwater area and downstream of the dam. While there are already research programmes running to monitor the water quality of the river and the backwater area, these programs are limited to ship campaigns with sampling and laboratory analysis. The spatial and temporal resolution of such measurements is not sufficient for an overall assessment of the water quality and for prognoses in the context of anthropogenic and climate change. Therefore, a concept of applying regular automated observations by a FerryBox is presented. | 6 | Tracing manufacturing processes using blockchain-based token compositions显示文摘Supply chain traceability is one of the most promising use cases to benefit from characteristics of blockchain,such as decentralization,immutability and transparency,not required to build prior trust relationships among entities.A plethora of supply chain traceability solutions based on blockchain has been proposed recently.However,current systems are limited to tracing simple goods that have not been part of the manufacturing process.We recommend a method that allows for the traceability of manufactured goods,including their components.Products are represented using non-fungible digital tokens that are created on a blockchain for each batch of manufactured products.To create a link between a product and the components that are needed to produce it,we propose“token recipes”that define the amount of tokenized goods required for minting a new token.As input tokens are automatically and transparently consumed when creating a product token,the physical process of producing a new item out of existing components is projected onto the ledger.This ultimately leads to the complete traceability of goods,including the origin of inputs.Evaluating the performance of the system,we show that a prototypical implementation for the Ethereum Virtual Machine(EVM)scales linearly with the amount of the input and goods tracked. | Martin Westerkamp Friedhelm Victor Axel Küpper | 2020 | Digital Communications and Networks2020,6,2: | 3 |
