| 1 | Effect of preoperative immunonutrition and other nutrition models on cellular immune parameters显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effects of preoperative immunonutrition and other nutrition models on the cellular immunity parameters of patients with gastrointestinal tumors before surgical intervention.In addition,effects on postoperative complications were examined. METHODS:Patients with gastrointestinal tumors were randomized into 3 groups.The immunonutrition group received a combination of arginine,fatty acids and nucleotides.The second and third group received normal nutrition and standard enteral nutrition,respectively.Nutrition protocols were administered for 7 d prior to the operation.Nutritional parameters,in particular prealbumin levels and lymphocyte subpopulations(CD4+,CD8+,CD16+/56+,and CD69 cells)were evaluated before and after the nutrition protocols.Groups were compared in terms of postoperative complications and duration of hospital stay. RESULTS:Of the 42 patients who completed thestudy,16 received immunonutrition,13 received normal nutrition and 13 received standard enteral nutrition. prealbumin values were low in every group,but this parameter was improved after the nutritional protocol only in the immunonutrition group(13.64±8.83 vs 15.98±8.66,P=0.037).Groups were similar in terms of CD4+,CD16+/56,and CD69+prior to the nutritional protocol;whereas CD8+was higher in the standard nutrition group compared to the immunonutrition group.After nutritional protocols,none of the groups had an increase in their lymphocyte subpopulations.Also,groups did not differ in terms of postoperative complications and postoperative durations of hospital stay. | 3 | Effects of estrogen replacement therapy on apoptosis and vascular endothelial growth factor expression in ocular surface epithelial cells:An experimental study显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) on apoptosis and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in ocular surface in an experimental rat model.· METHODS:Forty female,Wistar rats were randomized in 4 groups in the study.Subcutaneous ERT (17β-estradiol,10g/kg/day) was administered to the first group without ovariectomy and to the second group with ovariectomy for three months.Third group had only ovariectomy and fourth group had sham operation.All rats were sacrificed in estrous cycles determined by vaginal smear test and their right eyes were enucleated at the end of the third month.Enucleated eyes were analyzed by immunohistochemical method for expressions of caspase-3,bcl-2,VEGF and TUNEL assay.· RESULTS:Caspase-3 expression of conjunctival epithelium was significantly higher in group 3 than group 1 (P =0.005),and group 2 (P =0.007).TUNEL score of conjunctival epithelium was significantly higher in group 3 than group 1 (P =0.006).TUNEL score of corneal epithelium was significantly higher in group 3 than group 2 (P =0.012),and group 4 (P =0.002).There was no significant difference between groups in that bcl-2 and VEGF expressions.· CONCLUSION:We determined increased apoptosis in ocular surface epithelial cells in ovariectomized rats.ERT and endogen estrogen decreased the apoptosis,and did not result in difference in VEGF expression between the groups.Estrogen may be beneficial for the treatment of apoptosis-mediated ocular surface disorders such as dry eye.Further studies are needed on this subject for a better understanding of the role of estrogen and to provide a new insight for treatment and prevention of apoptosis-mediated ocular surface disorders. | Fatih zcura Sema Oru Dndar Emel Dikicioglu etin Nahit Beder Mehmet Dndar | 2012 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2012，5，1： | 7 |
| 4 | New treatment modalities in Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is still a major public health challenge without an effective treatment to prevent or stop it. Routinely used acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and memantine seem to slow disease progression only to a limited extend. Therefore, many investigations on new drugs and other treatment modalities are ongoing in close association with increasing knowledge of the pathophysiology of the disease. Here, we review the studies about the new treatment modalities in AD with a classification based on their main targets, specifically pathologic structures of the disease, amyloid and tau, neural network dysfunction with special interest to the regulation of gamma oscillations, and attempts for the restoration of neural tissue via regenerative medicine. | 5 | Structure-property relationships in ILs: A study of the alkyl chain length dependence in vaporisation enthalpies of pyridinium based ionic liquids显示文摘The enthalpies of vaporization for the series of pyridinium-based ionic liquids with bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion [CnPy][NTf2] (n = 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) have been determined with the quartz crystal microbalance technique combined with the Langmuir evaporation. The linear dependence of vaporization enthalpies on the chain length has been revealed. | 7 | Dynamics of circulating microparticles in chronic kidney disease and transplantation:Is it really reliable marker?显示文摘The deterioration of endothelial structure plays a very important role in the development of vascular diseases. It is believed that endothelial dysfunction starts in the early stage of kidney disease and is a risk factor of an unfavorable cardiovascular prognosis. Because a direct assessment of biological states in endothelial cells is not applicable, the measurement of endothelial microparticles(EMPs) detached from endothelium during activation or apoptosis is thought to be a marker of early vascular disease and endothelial dysfunction in children with chronic kidney disease(CKD). Few studies have shown increased circulating EMPs and its relationship with cardiovascular risk factors in patients with CKD.MPs contain membrane proteins and cytosolic material derived from the cell from which they originate.
