| 1 | Short term results of endoscopic submucosal dissection in superficial esophageal squamous cell neoplasms显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic submucosal dissection for superficial esophageal squamous cell neoplasms. METHODS: Between July 2007 and March 2009, 27 consecutive superficial esophageal squamous cell neoplasms in 25 enrolled patients were treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection. The therapeutic efficacy, complications, and follow-up results were assessed. RESULTS: The mean size of the lesions was 21 ± 13 mm (range 2-55 mm); the mean size of the resection specimens was 32 ± 12 mm (range 10-70 mm). The enblock resection rate was 100% (27/27), and en block resection with tumor-free lateral/basal margins was 88.9% (24/27). Perforation occurred in 1 patient who was managed by conservative medical treatments. None of the patients developed local recurrence or distant metastasis in the follow-up period. | 2 | High concentrations of human β-defensin 2 in gastric juice of patients with Helicobacter pylori infection显示文摘AIM: Human β-defensin (HBD)-1 and HBD-2 are endogenous antimicrobial peptides. Unlike HBD-1, the HBD-2 expression is augmented by Helicobacter pylori (H pylori). We sought to determine HBD-1 and HBD-2 concentrations in gastric juice duringH pylori infection.METHODS: HBD-1 and HBD-2 concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay in plasma and gastric juice of 49 H pylori-infected and 33 uninfected subjects and before and after anti-H pyloritreatment in 13 patients with H pylori-associated gastritis. Interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-8 concentrations in gastric juice were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Histological grades of gastritis were determined using two biopsy specimens taken from the antrum and corpus. Reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC)was used to identify HBD-2.RESULTS: HBD-2 concentrations in gastric juice, but not in plasma, were significantly higher in H pylori-positive than -negative subjects, albeit the post-treatment levels were unchanged. Immunoreactivity for HBD-2 was exclusively identified in H pylori-infected mucosa by RPHPLC. HBD-2 concentrations in gastric juice correlated with histological degree of neutrophil and mononuclear cell infiltration in the corpus. IL-1β levels correlated with those of IL-8, but not HBD-2. In the report, we defined the tree-like appearance (TLA) on the images of abnormal blood vessels which resembled branches from the trunk of a tree in the shiny mucosa, in which the glandular structure was lost. The 67-year-old female was diagnosed with gastric MALT lymphoma. The patient received eradication therapy for H. pylori. Conventional endoscopy revealed multiple ill-delineated brownish depressions in the stomach and cobblestonelike mucosa was observed at the greater curvature to the posterior wall of the upper gastric body 7 mo after successful eradication. Unsuccessful treatment of gastric MALT lymphoma was suspected on conventional endoscopy. Conventional endoscopic observations found focal depressions and cobblestone-like appearance, and these lesions were subsequently observed using magnified endoscopy combined with narrow band imaging to identify abnormal vessels presenting with a TLA within the lesions. Ten biopsies were taken from the area where abnormal vessels were present within these lesions. Ten biopsies were also taken from the lesions without abnormal vessels as a control. A total of 20 biopsy samples were evaluated to determine whether the diagnosis of MALT lymphoma could be obtained histologically from each sample. A positive diagnosis was obtained in 8/10 TLA (+) sites and in 2/10 TLA(-) sites. | 5 | The increase in surface CXCR4 expression on lung extravascular neutrophils and its effects on neutrophils during endotoxin-induced lung injury显示文摘Inflammatory stimuli,such as a microbes or lipopolysaccharides,induce a rapid release of neutrophils from the bone marrow and promote neutrophil migration into inflamed sites to promote host defense.However,an excess accumulation and retention of neutrophils in inflamed tissue can cause severe tissue injuries in the later stages of inflammation.Recent studies have reported that both CXCL12 levels in injured lungs and its receptor,CXCR4,on accumulated neutrophils in injured lungs,increased;furthermore,these studies showed that the CXCL12/CXCR4 signaling pathway participated in neutrophil accumulation in the later stages of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced lung injury.However,the mechanisms underlying this increase in surface CXCR4 expression in neutrophils remain unclear.In this study,we found that surface CXCR4 expression increased in extravascular,but not intravascular,neutrophils in the lungs of LPS-induced lung injury model mice.Furthermore,ex vivo studies revealed that CXCL12 acted not only as a chemoattractant,but also as a suppressor of cell death for the lung neutrophils expressing CXCR4.Sulfatide,one of the native ligands for L-selectin,induced the increase of surface CXCR4 expression on isolated circulating neutrophils,suggesting that the activation of L-selectin may be involved in the increase in surface CXCR4.Our findings show that surface CXCR4 levels on neutrophils increase after extravasation into injured lungs,possibly through the activation of L-selectin.The CXCL12/CXCR4 signaling pathway plays an important role in the modulation of neutrophil activity during acute lung injury,not only by promoting chemotaxis but also by suppressing cell death. | Mitsuhiro Yamada Hiroshi Kubo Seiichi Kobayashi Kota Ishizawa Mei He Takaya Suzuki Naoya Fujino Hiroyuki Kunishima Masamitsu Hatta Katsushi Nishimaki Tetsuji Aoyagi Kouichi Tokuda Miho Kitagawa Hisakazu Yano Hirokazu Tamamura Nobutaka Fujii Mitsuo Kaku | 2011 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011，8，4： | 6 |

METHODS: This procedure was performed in Saitama Medical University International Medical Center, Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital and Kitakyushu Municipal Medical Center. The subjects were 31 patients in whom biopsy findings, from superficial, depressed- or flat-type gastric lesion, suggested differentiated adenocarcinoma in the above 3 hospitals between January and December 2009. Biopsy was performed on the lesion and non-lesion sides of a boundary (imaginary boundary) visualized on ME-NBI. The results were pathologically investigated. We evaluated the accuracy of estimating a demarcation line (DL) on ME-NBI in comparison with biopsy findings as a gold standard. RESULTS: The DL that could be recognized at 2 points on the orifice and anal sides of each lesion during ME-NBI was consistent with the pathological findings in 22 patients with 0-Ⅱc lesions, 7 with 0-Ⅱb lesions, and 2 with 0-Ⅱb + Ⅱc lesions, showing an accuracy of 100%. | 7 | Clues to the signals for chloroplast photorelocation from the lifetimes of accumulation and avoidance responses显示文摘Chloroplast photo-relocation movement is crucial for plant survival; however, the mechanism of this phenomenon is still poorly understood. Especially, the signal that goes from photoreceptor to chloroplast is unknown, although the photoreceptors(phototropin 1 and 2) have been identified and an actin structure(chloroplast actin filaments) has been characterized that is specific for chloroplast movement. Here,in gametophytes of the fern Adiantum capillus-veneris,gametophores of the moss Physcomiterella patens, and leaves of the seed plant Arabidopsis thaliana, we sought to characterize the signaling system by measuring the lifetime of the induced response. Chloroplast movements were induced by microbeam irradiation with high-intensity blue light and recorded. The lifetime of the avoidance state was measured as a lag time between switching off the beam and the loss of avoidance behavior, and that of the accumulation state was measured as the duration of accumulation behavior following the extinction of the beam. The lifetime for the avoidance response state is approximately 3–4 min and that for the accumulation response is 19–28 min. | 13 | Amplification of flood discharge caused by the cascading failure of landslide dams显示文摘The cascading failure of multiple landslide dams can trigger a larger peak flood discharge than that caused by a single dam failure.Therefore,for an accurate numerical simulation,it is essential to elucidate the primary factors affecting the peak discharge of the flood caused by a cascading failure,which is the purpose of the current study.First,flume experiments were done on the cascading failure of two landslide dams under different upstream dam heights,downstream dam heights,and initial downstream reservoir water volumes.Then,the experimental results were reproduced using a numerical simulation model representing landslide dam erosion resulting from overtopping flow.Finally,the factors influencing the peak flood discharge caused by the cascading failure were analyzed using the numerical simulation model.Experimental results indicated that the inflow discharge into the downstream dam at the time when the downstream dam height began to rapidly erode was the main factor responsible for a cascading failure generating a larger peak flood discharge than that generated by a single dam failure.Furthermore,the results of a sensitivity analysis suggested that the upstream and downstream dam heights,initial water volume in the reservoir of the downstream dam,upstream and downstream dam crest lengths,and distance between two dams were among the most important factors in predicting the flood discharge caused by the cascading failure of multiple landslide dams. | Shoki Takayama Masamitsu Fujimoto Yoshifumi Satofuka | 2021 | International Journal of Sediment Research2021，36，3： | 2 |
