| 1 | A Note on the South China Sea Shallow Interocean Circulation显示文摘The existing estimates of the volume transport from the Pacific Ocean to the South China Sea aresummarized, showing an annual mean westward transport, with the Taiwan Strait outflow subtracted, of3.5±2.0 Sv (1 Sv=106 m3 s-1). Results of a global ocean circulation model show an annual mean transportof 3.9 Sv from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean through the South China Sea. The boreal winter transport islarger and exhibits a South China Sea branch of the Pacific-to-Indian Ocean throughfiow, which originatesfrom the western Philippine Sea toward the Indonesian Seas through the South China Sea, as well asthrough the Karimata and Mindoro Straits. The southwestward current near the continental slope of thenorthern South China Sea is shown to be a combination of this branch and the interior circulation gyre.This winter branch can be confirmed by trajectories of satellite-tracked drifters, which clearly show a flowfrom the Luzón Strait to the Karimata Strait in winter. In summer, the flow in the Karimata Strut isreversed. Numerical model results indicate that the Pacific water can enter the South China Sea and exittoward the Sulu Sea, but no observational evidence is available. | 2 | Observations of the Karimata Strait througflow from December 2007 to November 2008显示文摘In order to quantitatively estimate the volume and property transports between the South China Sea and Indonesian Seas via the Karimata Strait, two trawl-resistant bottom mounts, with ADCPs embedded, were deployed in the strait to measure the velocity profile as part of the South China Sea-Indonesian Seas transport/exchange (SITE) program. A pair of surface and bottom acoustic modems was employed to transfer the measured velocity without recovering the mooring. The advantage and problems of the instruments in this field work are reported and discussed. The field observations confirm the existence of the South China Sea branch of Indonesian throughflow via the Karimata Strait with a stronger southward flow in boreal winter and weaker southward bottom flow in boreal summer, beneath the upper layer northward (reversal) flow. The estimate of the averaged volume, heat and freshwater transports from December 2007 to March 2008 (winter) is (-2.7 ± 1.1) × 10 6 m3/s, (-0.30 ± 0.11) PW, (-0.18 ± 0.07) × 106m3/s and from May to September 2008 (summer) is (1.2 ± 0.6) × 106m3/s, (0.14 ± 0.03) PW, (0.12 ± 0.04) × 106m3/s and for the entire record from December 2007 to October 2008 is (-0.5 ± 1.9) × 10 6 m3/s, (-0.05 ± 0.22) PW, (-0.01 ± 0.15) × 106m3/s (negative/positive represents southward/northward transport), respectively. The existence of southward bottom flow in boreal summer implies that the downward sea surface slope from north to south as found by Fang et al. | 4 | Carvedilol vs endoscopic variceal ligation for primary and secondary prevention of variceal bleeding: Systematic review and metaanalysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Variceal hemorrhage is associated with high mortality and is the cause of death for 20–30%of patients with cirrhosis.Nonselectiveβblockers(NSBBs)or endoscopic variceal ligation(EVL)are recommended for primary prevention of variceal bleeding in patients with medium to large esophageal varices.Meanwhile,combination of EVL and NSBBs is the recommended approach for the secondary prevention.Carvedilol has greater efficacy than other NSBBs as it decreases intrahepatic resistance.We hypothesized that there was no difference between carvedilol and EVL intervention for primary and secondary prevention of variceal bleeding in cirrhosis patients.AIM To evaluate the efficacy of carvedilol compared to EVL for primary and secondary prevention of variceal bleeding in cirrhotic patients METHODS We searched relevant literatures in major journal databases(CENTRAL,MEDLINE,and EMBASE)from March to August 2018.Patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension,regardless of aetiology and severity,with or without a history of variceal bleeding,and aged≥18 years old were included in this review.Only randomized controlled trials(RCTs)that compared the efficacy of carvedilol and that of EVL for primary and secondary prevention of variceal bleeding and mortality in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension were considered,irrespective of publication status,year of publication,and language.RESULTS Seven RCTs were included.In four trials assessing the primary prevention,no significant difference was found on the events of variceal bleeding(RR:0.74,95%CI:0.37-1.49),all-cause mortality(RR:1.10,95%CI:0.76-1.58),and bleedingrelated mortality(RR:1.02,95%CI:0.34-3.10)in patients who were treated with carvedilol compared to EVL.In three trials assessing secondary prevention,there was no difference between two interventions for the incidence of rebleeding(RR:1.10,95%CI:0.75-1.61).The fixed-effect model showed that,compared to EVL,carvedilol decreased all-cause mortality by 49%(RR:0.51,95%CI:0.33-0.79),with little or no evidence of heterogeneity.CONCLUSION Carvedilol had similar efficacy to EVL in preventing the first variceal bleeding in cirrhosis patients with esophageal varices.It was superior to EVL alone for secondary prevention of variceal bleeding in regard to all-cause mortality reduction. | Michael Dwinata David Dwi Putera Muhamad Fajri Adda’i Putra Nur Hidayat Irsan Hasan | 2019 | World Journal of Hepatology2019,11,5: | 6 |
| 5 | Characterization and Activity of Cr, Cu and Ga Modified ZSM-5 for Direct Conversion of Methane to Liquid Hydrocarbons显示文摘Direct conversion of methane using a metal-loaded ZSM-5 zeolite prepared via acidic ion exchange was investigated to elucidate the roles of metal and acidity in the formation of liquid hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 (SiO2/Al2O3=30) was loaded with different metals (Cr, Cu and Ga) according to the acidic ion-exchange method to produce metal-loaded ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts. XRD, NMR, FT-IR and N2 adsorption analyses indicated that Cr and Ga species managed to occupy the aluminum positions in the ZSM-5 framework. In addition, Cr species were deposited in the pores of the structure. However, Cu oxides were deposited on the surface and in the mesopores of the ZSM-5 zeolite. An acidity study using TPD-NH3, FT-IR, and IR-pyridine analyses revealed that the total number of acid sites and the strengths of the Bronsted and Lewis acid sites were significantly different after the acidic ion exchange treatment.Cu loaded HZSM-5 is a potential catalyst for direct conversion of methane to liquid hydrocarbons. | 7 | Influence of the Indonesian Throughflow on the upwelling off the east coast of South Java显示文摘A wave–tide–circulation coupled model is used to simulate upwelling off the south coast of Java, Indonesia. The results show that the vertical velocity off East Java is stronger than other parts in this area. The strongest vertical velocity is located approximately at 80 m depth.The annual averaged values of upwelling are 2.3 9 10-6and 1.06 9 10-5m/s for south of West Java and south of East Java, respectively. The vertical velocity from the model shows that upwelling off West Java has seasonal variability, while it is quite steady and strong off East Java.Additional numerical experiments show that the wind is not the dominant factor for the steady upwelling off the southern part of East Java. It is then hypothesized that the Indonesian Throughflow(ITF) may be responsible for the upwelling. To test this hypothesis, two scenarios are implemented, both of which block the outflow of the ITF.Sensitive study shows that the ITF plays a key role in the formation of East Java upwelling. Interactions between host cells and viral genomes may induce the upregulation or downregulation of various miRNAs. | 9 | OsSCE1 Encoding SUMO E2-Conjugating Enzyme Involves in Drought Stress Response of Oryza sativa显示文摘Small ubiquitin-like modifier(SUMO)-conjugating enzymes are involved in post-translational regulatory processes in eukaryotes, including the conjugation of SUMO peptides to protein substrate(SUMOylation). SUMOylation plays an important role in improving plant tolerance to abiotic stress such as salt, drought, heat and cold. Herein, we reported the isolation of OsSCE1(LOC_Os10 g39120) gene encoding a SUMO-conjugating enzyme from rice(Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare) and its functional validation in response to drought stress. The E2 enzyme, Os SCE1, is one of three key enzymes involved in the conjugation of SUMO to its target proteins. Activated SUMO is transferred to the cysteine of an E2 enzyme and then to the target lysine residue of the substrate, with or without the help of an E3 SUMO ligase. Expression of OsSCE1 was strongly induced by polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG6000) treatment, which suggested OsSCE1 may be involved in the drought stress response. Overexpression of OsSCE1(OsSCE1-OX) in Nipponbare reduced the tolerance to drought stress. Conversely, the drought tolerance was slightly improved by the knockdown of OsSCE1(OsSCE1-KD). These results were further supported by measurement of proline content in OsSCE1-OX and OsSCE1-KD transgenic lines under induced drought stress, which showed OsSCE1-KD transgenic lines accumulated higher proline content than the wild type, whereas OsSCE1-OX line had lower proline content than the wild type. | 17 | Effect of cold working and sandblasting on the microhardness, tensile strength and corrosion resistance of AISI 316L stainless steel显示文摘The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of cold working and sandblasting on the microhardness, tensile strength and corro-sion rate of AISI 316L stainless steel. The specimens were deformed from 17% to 47% and sandblasted for 20 min using SiC particles with a diameter of 500-700 μm and an air flow with 0.6-0.7 MPa pressure. The microhardness distribution and tensile test were conducted and a measurement on the corrosion current density was done to determine the corrosion rate of the specimens. The result shows that the cold working enhances the bulk microhardness, tensile and yield strength of the specimen by the degree of deformation applied in the treatment. The sandblasting treatment increases the microhardness only at the surface of the specimen without or with a low degree of deformation. In addition, the sandblasting enhances the surface roughness. The corrosion resistance is improved by cold working, especially for the highly deformed specimen. However the follow-up sandblasting treatment reduces the corrosion resistance. In conclusion, the cold working is prominent to be used for improving the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of AISI 316L stainless steel.
