1Clinical and biochemical indexes from 2019-nCoV infected patients linked to viral loads and lung injury显示文摘The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV infection began in December 2019 in Wuhan,Hubei province,and rapidly spread to many provinces in China as well as other countries.Here we report the epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological characteristics,as well as potential biomarkers for predicting disease severity in 2019-nCoV-infected patients in Shenzhen,China.All 12 cases of the 2019-nCoV-infected patients developed pneumonia and half of them developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).The most common laboratory abnormalities were hypoalbuminemia,lymphopenia,decreased percentage of lymphocytes (LYM) and neutrophils (NEU),elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),and decreased CD8 count.The viral load of 2019-nCoV detected from patient respiratory tracts was positively linked to lung disease severity.ALB,LYM,LYM (%),LDH,NEU (%),and CRP were highly correlated to the acute lung injury.Age,viral load,lung injury score,and blood biochemistry indexes,albumin (ALB),CRP,LDH,LYM (%),LYM,and NEU (%),may be predictors of disease severity.Moreover,the Angiotensin Ⅱlevel in the plasma sample from 2019-nCoV infected patients was markedly elevated and linearly associated to viral load and lung injury.Our results suggest a number of potential diagnosis biomarkers and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs for potential repurposing treatment of 2019-nCoV infection.Yingxia Liu Yang Yang Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Jianming Li Cheng Feng Zheng Zhang Lifei Wang Ling Peng Li Chen Yuhao Qin Dandan Zhao Shuguang Tan Lu Yin Jun Xu Congzhao Zhou Chengyu Jiang Lei Liu 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,3:157

5China's wetland change (1990-2000) determined by remote sensing显示文摘Two wetland maps for the entire China have been produced based on Landsat data acquired around 1990 and 2000. Wetlands in China have been divided into 3 broad categories with 15 sub-categories except rice fields. In 1990, the total wetland area in China was 355208 km2 whereas in 2000 it dropped to 304849 km2 with a net loss of 50360 km2. During an approximate 10-year period, inland wetland reduced from 318326 to 257922 km2, coastal wetland dropped from 14335 to 12015 km2, while artificial wetland increased from 22546 to 34911 km2. The greatest natural wetland loss occurred in Heilongjiang, Inner Mon- golia, and Jilin with a total loss of over 57000 km2 of wetland. In western China, over 13000 km2 of wetlands were newly formed in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Qinghai. About 12000 km2 of artificial wetlands were also added for fish farm and reservoir constructions. The newly formed wetlands in western China were caused primarily by climate warming over that region whereas the newly created artificial wetlands were caused by economic developments. 6Additive manufacturing of metals:Microstructure evolution and multistage control显示文摘As a revolutionary industrial technology,additive manufacturing creates objects by adding materials layer by layer and hence can fabricate customized components with an unprecedented degree of freedom.For metallic materials,unique hierarchical microstructures are constructed during additive manufacturing,which endow them with numerous excellent properties.To take full advantage of additive manufacturing,an in-depth understanding of the microstructure evolution mechanism is required.To this end,this review explores the fundamental procedures of additive manufacturing,that is,the formation and binding of melt pools.A comprehensive processing map is proposed that integrates melt pool energy-and geometry-related process parameters together.Based on it,additively manufactured microstructures are developed during and after the solidification of constituent melt pool.The solidification structures are composed of primary columnar grains and fine secondary phases that form along the grain boundaries.The post-solidification structures include submicron scale dislocation cells stemming from internal residual stress and nanoscale precipitates induced by intrinsic heat treatment during cyclic heating of adjacent melt pool.Based on solidification and dislocation theories,the formation mechanisms of the multistage microstructures are thoroughly analyzed,and accordingly,multistage control methods are proposed.In addition,the underlying atomic scale structural features are briefly discussed.Furthermore,microstructure design for additive manufacturing through adjustment of process parameters and alloy composition is addressed to fulfill the great potential of the technique.This review not only builds a solid microstructural framework for metallic materials produced by additive manufacturing but also provides a promising guideline to adjust their mechanical properties.Zhiyuan Liu Dandan Zhao Pei Wang Ming Yan Can Yang Zhangwei Chen Jian Lu Zhaoping Lu 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,5:27

8Herbal decoctosome is a novel form of medicine显示文摘Traditionally, herbal medicine is consumed by drinking decoctions produced by boiling herbs with water. The functional components of the decoction are heat stable. Small RNAs(sRNAs) were reported as a new class of functional components in decoctions. However, the mechanisms by which sRNAs survive heat treatment of the decoction and enter cells are unclear.Previous studies showed that plant-derived exosome-like nanoparticles(ELNs), which we call botanosomes, could deliver therapeutic reagents in vivo. Here, we report that heat-stable decoctosomes(ELNs) from decoctions have more therapeutic effects than the decoctions in vitro and demonstrate therapeutic efficacy in vivo. Furthermore, sRNAs, such as HJT-sRNA-m7 and PGY-sRNA-6, in the decoctosome exhibit potent anti-fibrosis and anti-inflammatory effects, respectively. Decoctosome is comprised of lipids, chemical compounds, proteins, and s RNAs. A medical decoctosome mimic is called bencaosome. A single lipid sphinganine(d22:0) identified in the decoctosome was mixed and heated with the synthesized sRNAs to form the simplest bencaosome. This simple bencaosome structure was identified by critical micelle concentration(cmc) assay that sRNAs coassembled with sphinganine(d22:0) to form the lipid layers of vesicles. The heating process facilitates co-assembly of sRNAs and sphinganine(d22:0) until a steady state is reached. The artificially produced sphinganine-HJT-sRNA-m7 and sphinganinePGY-sRNA-6 bencaosomes could ameliorate bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis and poly(I:C)-induced lung inflammation, respectively, following oral administration in mice. 9Plant-derived phosphocholine facilitates cellular uptake of anti-pulmonary fibrotic HJT-sRNA-m7显示文摘Pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive chronic disease with a high mortality rate, has limited treatment options. Currently, lung transplantation remains the only effective treatment. Here we report that a small RNA, HJT-sRNA-m7, from a Chinese herbal medicine Hong Jing Tian(HJT, RHODIOHAE CRENULATAE RADIX ET RHIZOMA, Rhodiola crenulata) can effectively reduce the expressions of fibrotic hallmark genes and proteins both in alveolar in vitro and in mouse lung tissues in vivo. We also discovered over one hundred oil-soluble chemicals from HJT decoctions, most of which are found in lipid extracts from other Chinese herbals decoctions, including Pu Gong Ying(PGY, TARAXACI HERBA, Taraxacum mongolicum), Chuan Xin Lian(CXL, changed to 'ANDROGRAPHIS HERBA, Andrographis paniculata'), and Jin Yin Hua(JYH, lonicera japonica or Honeysuckle). We identified the active component in these decoctions as two forms of phosphocholines, PC(18:0/18:2) and PC(16:0/18:2). These PCs potentially could form liposomes with small RNAs to enter human alveolar and gastric cells. 12Environment-ecosystem dynamic processes of Spartina alterniflora salt-marshes along the eastern China coastlines显示文摘Spartina alterniflora is ecologically important in its original habitat; however, it has caused controversy since it was introduction into China(now it has been spreading rapidly on the Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian coasts). The purpose of the present contribution is, on the basis of an analysis and synthesis of existing data sets, to evaluate the environmental-ecological effects of S. alterniflora, and to identify the relevant scientific problems that require further research in the future. Investigations have shown that, by reducing the near-bed shear stress associated with tidal currents, S. alterniflora can enhance the settling flux of suspended sediment and deposition rate on the tidal flats over the region. Further, field survey and analysis indicate that the S. alterniflora salt-marsh has a high primary production and provides a new type of habitat for the native benthic fauna. Some macro-, meio- and micro-fauna that used to live in the native salt-marshes have adapted to the S. alterniflora salt-marsh, forming a new ecosystem. Under the influences of a number of background factors, such as latitude variations and the coastal type, the environmental-ecological changes induced by Spartine have regional differentiations. To the north of Hangzhou Bay, with a high position of the pre-Holocene stratum base, a large width of the tidal flats, and a gentle bed slope, only a small part of the intertidal zone is occupied by the S. alterniflora salt-marsh. Here, the S. alterniflora salt-marshes mainly play a positive role in coastal protection and ecosystem functioning. In contrary, to the South of Hangzhou Bay, The pre-Holocene deposits are situated in relatively deeo waters, and the width of the tidal flats formed within coastal embayments is relatively narrow. As such, the expansion of S. alterniflora has squeezed the living space of other intertidal organisms, thus has a negative ecological effect. Therefore, the regional differentiation of the Spartina effects should be sufficiently considered in coastal development and management. 13Spatial Structural Pattern and Vulnerability of China-Japan-Korea Shipping Network显示文摘The economies of China-Japan-Korea(CJK) are complementary, with their proximity resulting in the three countries having a high degree of interdependence with respect to trade. Currently, trade among these countries relies mainly on port-centered shipping. The development of the shipping network is integral for in-depth integration of CJK trade. This paper analyzes the overall characteristics, centrality, spatial structure, and vulnerability of the CJK shipping network using the methods of complex network analysis, blocking flow theory, and interruption and deletion of hub ports. The main findings are as follows: 1) The CJK shipping network has a small average path length and clustering coefficient, and its degree distribution follows a power-law distribution, which make the network present obvious characteristics of a Barabási-Albert scale-free. 2) The characteristics of the multi-center point of the CJK shipping network can alleviate traffic pressure. At the same time, the network shows a clear hierarchy in the port transportation system, with cargo transport relying mainly on the ‘hub port-hub port' connection. 3) The CJK shipping network is relatively stable. 14Celastrol induces ferroptosis in activated HSCs to ameliorate hepatic fibrosis via targeting peroxiredoxins and HO-1显示文摘Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death, characterized by excessive membrane lipid peroxidation in an iron-and ROS-dependent manner. Celastrol, a natural bioactive triterpenoid extracted from Tripterygium wilfordii, shows effective anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory activities in multiple hepatic diseases. However, the exact molecular mechanisms of action and the direct protein targets of celastrol in the treatment of liver fibrosis remain largely elusive. Here, we discover that celastrol exerts anti-fibrotic effects via promoting the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and inducing ferroptosis in activated hepatic stellate cells(HSCs). By using activity-based protein profiling(ABPP) in combination with bio-orthogonal click chemistry reaction and cellular thermal shift assay(CETSA), we show that celastrol directly binds to peroxiredoxins(PRDXs), including PRDX1, PRDX2, PRDX4 and PRDX6,through the active cysteine sites, and inhibits their anti-oxidant activities. Celastrol also targets to heme oxygenase 1(HO-1) and upregulates its expression in activated-HSCs. Knockdown of PRDX1, PRDX2,PRDX4, PRDX6 or HO-1 in HSCs, to varying extent, elevated cellular ROS levels and induced ferroptosis. 15Effects of mulberry leaf flavonoid and resveratrol on methane emission and nutrient digestion in sheep显示文摘As a new type of methane control agent, natural plant extract has been widely studied in recent years,but in vivo studies are few. This study was to investigate the effects of the dietary supplementation of 2 different polyphenols on the methane(CH4) emission and digestion metabolism in sheep. Ten healthy crossbred sheep(Dorper(?)× small-tailed Han ♀; BW 60.0 ± 1.73 kg) were used in a change-over design.The sheep were fed the following 3 diets in the present study: the basal diet(CON) with no supplementation; the basal diet supplemented with 2 g mulberry leaf flavonoid(MLF) per day per sheep; the basal diet supplemented with 0.25 g resveratrol(RES) per day per sheep. Both MLF and RES reduced CH4 emission scaled to metabolic weight per kilogram of DMI and CO2 output scaled to metabolic weight, but the effect of RES was significant(P < 0.05). Both MLF and RES significantly improved apparent digestibility of DM, OM, NDF, ADF, and nitrogen, but the effect of RES was significant(P < 0.05). Both MLF and RES significantly improved ME(P < 0.05) and reduced energy losses in CH4 emission(P > 0.05). 16Human carboxylesterases:a comprehensive review显示文摘Mammalian carboxylesterases(CEs) are key enzymes from the serine hydrolase superfamily.In the human body, two predominant carboxylesterases(CES1 and CES2) have been identified and extensively studied over the past decade. These two enzymes play crucial roles in the metabolism of a wide variety of endogenous esters, ester-containing drugs and environmental toxicants. The key roles of CES in both human health and xenobiotic metabolism arouse great interest in the discovery of potent CES modulators to regulate endobiotic metabolism or to improve the efficacy of ester drugs. This review covers the structural and catalytic features of CES, tissue distributions, biological functions, genetic polymorphisms, substrate specificities and inhibitor properties of CES1 and CES2, as well as the significance and recent progress on the discovery of CES modulators. The information presented here will help pharmacologists explore the relevance of CES to human diseases or to assign the contribution of certain CES in xenobiotic metabolism. 17Cardioprotective mechanism of SGLT2 inhibitor against myocardial infarction is through reduction of autosis显示文摘Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2(SGLT2)inhibitors reduce cardiovascular mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus but the protective mechanism remains elusive.Here we demonstrated that the SGLT2 inhibitor,Empagliflozin(EMPA),suppresses cardiomyocytes autosis(autophagic cell death)to confer cardioprotective effects.Using myocardial infarction(Ml)mouse models with and without diabetes mellitus,EMPA treatment significantly reduced infarct size,and myocardial fibrosis,thereby leading to improved cardiac function and survival.In the context of ischemia and nutritional glucose deprivation where autosis is already highly stimulated,EMPA directly inhibits the activity of the Na^(+)/H^(+)exchanger 1(NHE1)in the cardiomyocytes to regulate excessive autophagy.Knockdown of NHE1 significantly rescued glucose deprivation-induced autosis.In contrast,overexpression of NHE1 aggravated the cardiomyocytes death in response to starvation,which was effectively rescued by EMPA treatment.Furthermore,in vitro and in vivo analysis of NHE1 and Beclin 1 knockout mice validated that EMPA s cardioprotective effects are at least in part through downregulation of autophagic flux.These findings provide new insights for drug development,specifically targeting NHE1 and autosis for ventricular remodeling and heart failure after Ml in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients.Kai Jiang Yue Xu Dandan Wang Feng Chen Zizhuo Tu Jie Qian Sheng Xu Yixiang Xu John Hwa Jian Li Hongcai Shang Yaozu Xiang 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,5:13
18Using borehole core analysis to reveal Late Quaternary paleoearthquakes along the Nankou-Sunhe Fault,Beijing显示文摘The Nankou-Sunhe Fault is a buried active normal fault that traverses the urban area of Beijing.Its seismic risks have caused considerable concerns.This paper studies paleoearthquakes along this fault by analyzing and correlating bore-hole cores obtained from triple-tube coring,incorporating experience acquired from trenching.As a result,a model for identifying earthquake-derived colluvium by sediment-core analysis is proposed.Triple-tube coring technique is useful to collect continuous undis-turbed soil core near the Nankou-Sunhe Fault.By identifying fault-scarp colluviums,determining cumulative displacement,and analysing stratum thickening on the hanging wall,we are able to establish a preliminary paleoearthquake sequence consisting of 13 surface-rupturing events since 60 ka.The seismic history can be divided into three periods based on different recurrence intervals.Between 60 and 40 ka,three earthquakes occurred with recurrence interval of ~10 ka.From 40 to 25 ka,there were six earthquakes with the recurrence interval of about 2.5 ka.In the last 25 ka,four earthquakes have taken place with the recurrence interval varying considerably.The recurrence interval between the last three events is ~5 ka.Smaller recurrence intervals correspond to stages of faster fault slip.The coseismic displacement of a single event is 0.8 to 2.2 m,average 1.4 m,largely equivalent to moment magnitudes 6.7-7.1.This study demonstrates the feasibility of bore-hole drilling in investigating paleoearthquakes along normal faults.It also suggests that closely spaced boreholes with continuous undisturbed cores are essential for reconstructing the complete paleoearthquake sequence.ZHANG ShiMin WANG DanDan LIU XuDong ZHANG GuoHong ZHAO JunXiang LUO MingHui REN JunJie WANG Rui ZHANG YingLi 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,8:11
19Understanding unusually high levels of peroxyacetyl nitrate(PAN) in winter in Urban Jinan,China显示文摘Peroxyacetyl nitrate(PAN), as a major secondary pollutant, has gained increasing worldwide attentions, but relevant studies in China are still quite limited. During winter of 2015 to summer of 2016, the ambient levels of PAN were measured continuously by an automatic gas chromatograph equipped with an electron capture detector(GC–ECD) analyzer at an urban site in Jinan(China), with related parameters including concentrations of O3, NO, NO_2, PM_(2.5), HONO,the photolysis rate constant of NO_2 and meteorological factors observed concurrently. The mean and maximum values of PAN concentration were(1.89 ± 1.42) and 9.61 ppbv respectively in winter, and(2.54 ± 1.44) and 13.47 ppbv respectively in summer. Unusually high levels of PAN were observed during severe haze episodes in winter, and the formation mechanisms of them were emphatically discussed. Study showed that high levels of PAN in winter were mainly caused by local accumulation and strong photochemical reactions during haze episodes, while mass transport played only a minor role. Accelerated photochemical reactions(compared to winter days without haze) during haze episodes were deduced by the higher concentrations but shorter lifetimes of PAN, which was further supported by the sufficient solar radiation in the photolysis band along with the high concentrations of precursors(NO_2, VOCs) and HONO during haze episodes. 20Genome-wide association analysis identified molecular markers associated with important tea flavor-related metabolites显示文摘The characteristic secondary metabolites in tea(theanine,caffeine,and catechins)are important factors contributing to unique tea flavors.However,there has been relatively little research on molecular markers related to these metabolites.Thus,we conducted a genome-wide association analysis of the levels of these tea flavor-related metabolites in three seasons.The theanine,caffeine,and catechin levels in Population 1 comprising 191 tea plant germplasms were examined,which revealed that their heritability exceeded 0.5 in the analyzed seasons,with the following rank order(highest to lowest heritabilities):(+)-catechin>(−)-gallocatechin gallate>caffeine=(−)-epicatechin>(−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate>theanine>(−)-epigallocatechin>(−)-epicatechin-3-gallate>catechin gallate>(+)-gallocatechin.The SNPs detected by amplified-fragment SNP and methylation sequencing divided Population 1 into three groups and seven subgroups.An association analysis yielded 307 SNP markers related to theanine,caffeine,and catechins that were common to all three seasons.Some of the markers were pleiotropic.The functional annotation of 180 key genes at the SNP loci revealed that FLS,UGT,MYB,and WD40 domain-containing proteins,as well as ATP-binding cassette transporters,may be important for catechin synthesis.KEGG and GO analyses indicated that these genes are associated with metabolic pathways and secondary metabolite biosynthesis.Moreover,in Population 2(98 tea plant germplasm resources),30 candidate SNPs were verified,including 17 SNPs that were significantly or extremely significantly associated with specific metabolite levels.These results will provide a foundation for future research on important flavor-related metabolites and may help accelerate the breeding of new tea varieties.Kaixing Fang Zhiqiang Xia Hongjian Li Xiaohui Jiang Dandan Qin Qiushuang Wang Qing Wang Chendong Pan Bo Li Hualing Wu 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:10
