3Ionic liquid/tetraglyme hybrid Mg[TFSI]_2 electrolytes for rechargeable Mg batteries显示文摘The electrochemical reversibility of Mg in hybrid electrolytes based on mixtures of ionic liquid and glyme based organic solvents was investigated for applications in rechargeable magnesium batteries(RMBs). The electrolytes demonstrate reversible reduction and oxidation of Mg only after being pre-treated with the dehydrating agent, magnesium borohydride, Mg[BH_4]_2, highlighting the importance of removing water in Mg based electrolytes. The addition magnesium di[bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide](Mg[TFSI]_2)(0.3 M) to N-butyl-n-methyl-pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide [C4 mpyr][TFSI]/tetraglyme at a mole ratio of 1:2 showed stable CV cycling over almost 300 cycles while scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) confirmed Mg deposition, showing non-dendritic morphology and a well-aligned growth. Further thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) demonstrated a mass retention of 79% at 250℃ for this electrolyte suggesting that the presence of the ionic liquid increases thermal stability substantially making these hybrid electrolytes compatible for RMBs.Zheng Ma Maria Forsyth Douglas R.MacFarlane Mega Kar 2019Green Energy & Environment2019,4,2:2
4Neurosurgical treatment for addiction:lessons from an untold story in China and a path forward显示文摘Addiction is a major public-health crisis associated with significant disability and mortality.Although various pharmacological and behavioral treatments are currently available,the clinical efficacy of these treatments is limited.Given this situation,there is a growing interest in finding an effective neurosurgical treatment for addiction.First,we discuss the use of ablative surgery in treating addiction.We focus on the rise and fall of nucleus accumbens ablation for addiction in China.Subsequently,we review recent studies that have explored the efficacy and safety of deep-brain-stimulation treatment for addiction.We conclude that neurosurgical procedures,particularly deep-brain stimulation,have a potentially valuable role in the management of otherwise intractable addictive disorders.Larger well-controlled clinical trials,however,are needed to assess clinical efficacy and safety.We end by discussing several key issues involved in this clinical field and identifying some areas of progress.Shuo Ma Chencheng Zhang Ti-fei Yuan Douglas Steele Valerie Voon Bomin Sun 2020National Science Review2020,7,3:2

11FINE PARTICULATE AIR POLLUTION: EPIDEMIOLOGIC BASIS FOR AIR QUALITY STANDARDS显示文摘In proposing a new ambient air quality standard for fine particulate air pollution in 1997, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was responding to a wealth of epidemiologic evidence. At the same time, it was recognized that there was little supporting evidence from toxicologic or controlled human exposure studies. The epidemiologic findings were questioned as only statistical associations without a plausible biological mechanism or an identified causal agent in the complex mix of pollutants characterized as fine particles. In response to these weaknesses in the scientific evidence, a series of research initiatives have been undertaken in exposure assessment, controlled animal and human exposures, and assessments of free-living populations. Key papers have been subjected to comprehensive review and replication. It is now four to seven years since the seminal papers suggesting adverse health effects of fine particles were published. Have these results held up over time? Have they been confirmed by other investigators in other populations? Do we have insights into the biologic mechanisms?
