| 1 | Antibacterial activity of selected ethnomedicinal plants from South India显示文摘Objective:To screen the antimicrobial potential of three ethnomedicinal plants Chassalia curviflora Thw.(C.curviflora),Cyclea peltata Hook.F.& Thomson(C.peltata) and Euphorbia hirta L(E.hirta) used in folk medicines in Aarukani hills Kani tribe,Tamil Nadu,India against human bacterial pathogens.Methods:Antibacterial efficacy was performed by disc diffusion method against the pathogens viz.,Escherichia coli(E.coli)(ATCC 35218),Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus)(ATCC 6538),Salmonella typhi(S.typhi)(MTCC 733),Proteus vulgaris(P.vulgaris), Proteus mirabilis(P.mirabilis) and Streptococcus pyogenes(S.pyogenes) and incubated for 24 h at 37°C.Results:The maximum degree of antibacterial activity was observed in C.peltata followed by C.curviflora.While E.hirta showed comparatively low degree of antibacterial activity.The methanolic extract of C.peltata showed the antibacterial activity against three pathogens viz.,S.pyogenes,P.vulgaris and E.coli with the inhibition zones 12 mm,10 mm and 9 mm,respectively,hexane extracts of C.peltata also showed the antibacterial activity against two selected pathogens viz.,P.vulgaris and P.mirabilis with 15 mm and 12 mm of inhibition zones.All the three different concentrations(025,0.50 & 0.75 mg/mL) of methanolic extract of C. peltata show the inhibitory effect on the three susceptible bacteria S.pyogenes,P.vulgaris and E. coli with the maximum inhibition in the highest concentration(0.75 mg/mL).The methanolic and hexane extracts of C.curviflora exhibited the antibacterial activity against only one bacterium each i.e.P.vulgaris and S.typhi with the maximum zone of inhibition 13 and 11 mm respectively. The methanolic and hexane extracts of E.hirta exhibited the antibacterial activity against only one bacterium Le.S.pyogenes with the maximum zone of inhibition 13 and 11 mm respectively. | 2 | Approach to Weighted Geometric Evaluation Based on Projection Pursuit显示文摘Weighted geometric evaluation approach based on Projection pursuit (PP) model is presented in this paper to optimize the choice of schemes. By using PP model, the multi-dimension evaluation index values of schemes can be synthesized into projection value with one dimension. The scheme with a bigger projection value is much better, so the schemes sample can be an optimized choice according to the projection value of each scheme. The modeling of PP based on accelerating genetic algorithm can predigest the realized process of projection pursuit technique, can overcome the shortcomings of large computation amount and the difficulty of computer programming in traditional projection pursuit methods, and can give a new method for application of projection pursuit technique to optimize choice of schemes by using weighted geometric evaluation. The analysis of an applied sample shows that applying PP model driven directly by samples data to optimize choice of schemes is both simple and feasible, that its projection values are relatively decentralized and profit decision-making, that its applicability and maneuverability are high. | 3 | Secondary aorto-esophageal fistula after thoracic aortic aneurysm endovascular repair treated by covered esophageal stenting显示文摘Thoracic endovascular aortic repair for thoracic aortic aneurysms is an accepted alternative to open surgery, especially in patients with significant comorbidities. The procedure itself has a low risk of complications and fistulas to surrounding organs are rarely reported. An 86-year-old patient was admitted to our hospital with gastro intestinal(GI) bleeding and a suspected aortoesophageal fistula. Eight months prior, the patient had undergone a stent graft repair of a mycotic thoracic aneurysm. Computerized tomography angiography and upper GI endoscopy confirmed an aortoesophageal fistula, which was treated by esophageal stenting.
