| 1 | Discovery of a pterodactylid pterosaur from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning,China显示文摘A well-preserved pterosaur with nearly complete skull is described from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation at Sihetun in western Liaoning. It is characterized by a low and long crestless skull, slender and pointed teeth, long metacarpal, nearly equal length of metatarsals I -III and short pedal digit V. It is referred to a new genus and species of the family Pterodactylidae: Haopterus gracilis gen. et sp. nov. This is the first pterosaur with a nearly complete skull from the Jehol Biota; it also represents the first non-controversial fossil record of Pterodactylidae in Asia. Haopterus is more derived than Pterodactylus from the Late Jurassic Solnhofen in Germany. This discovery extends the distribution of the family Pterodactylidae from Europe and Africa to Asia and its latest occurrence from the Late Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous. | 2 | Mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 and pancreatic cancer:A new potential target therapy显示文摘Overall 5-years survival of pancreatic cancer patients is nearly 5%,making this cancer type one of the most lethal neoplasia.Furthermore,the incidence rate of pancreatic cancer has a growing trend that determines a constant increase in the number of deceases caused by this pathology.The poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer is mainly caused by delayed diagnosis,early metastasis of tumor,and resistance to almost all tested cytotoxic drugs.In this respect,the identification of novel potential targets for new and efficient therapies should be strongly encouraged in order to improve the clinical management of pancreatic cancer.Some studies have shown that the mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2(UCP2) is over-expressed in pancreatic cancer as compared to adjacent normal tissues.In addition,recent discoveries established a key role of UCP2 in protecting cancer cells from an excessive production of mitochondrial superoxide ions and in the promotion of cancer cell metabolic reprogramming,including aerobic glycolysis stimulation,promotion of cancer progression.These observations together with the demonstration that UCP2 repression can synergize with standard chemotherapy to inhibit pancreatic cancer cell growth provide the molecular rationale to consider UCP2 as a potential therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer.In this editorial,recent advances describing the relationship between cancer development and mitochondrial UCP2 activity are critically provided. | Massimo Donadelli Ilaria Dando Elisa Dalla Pozza Marta Palmieri | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,11: | 9 |

| 4 | Knockdown of MLO genes reduces susceptibility to powdery mildew in grapevine显示文摘Erysiphe necator is the causal agent of powdery mildew(PM),one of the most destructive diseases of grapevine.PM is controlled by sulfur-based and synthetic fungicides,which every year are dispersed into the environment.This is why PM-resistant varieties should become a priority for sustainable grapevine and wine production.PM resistance can be achieved in other crops by knocking out susceptibility S-genes,such as those residing at genetic loci known as MLO(Mildew Locus O).All MLO S-genes of dicots belong to the phylogenetic clade V,including grapevine genes VvMLO7,11 and 13,which are upregulated during PM infection,and VvMLO6,which is not upregulated.Before adopting a gene-editing approach to knockout candidate S-genes,the evidence that loss of function of MLO genes can reduce PM susceptibility is necessary.This paper reports the knockdown through RNA interference of VvMLO6,7,11 and 13.The knockdown of VvMLO6,11 and 13 did not decrease PM severity,whereas the knockdown of VvMLO7 in combination with VvMLO6 and VvMLO11 reduced PM severity up to 77%.The knockdown of VvMLO7 and VvMLO6 seemed to be important for PM resistance,whereas a role for VvMLO11 does not seem likely.Cell wall appositions(papillae)were present in both resistant and susceptible lines in response to PM attack.Thirteen genes involved in defense were less upregulated in infected mlo plants,highlighting the early mlo-dependent disruption of PM invasion. | Stefano Pessina Luisa Lenzi Michele Perazzolli Manuela Campa Lorenza Dalla Costa Simona Urso Giampiero Valè Francesco Salamini Riccardo Velasco Mickael Malnoy | 2016 | Horticulture Research2016,3,1: | 7 |

| 6 | Herbicide resistance: Development of wheat production systems and current status of resistant weeds in wheat cropping systems显示文摘Herbicide resistance in crops has extended the scope of herbicide applications to control weeds. The introduction of herbicide resistant crops resulted in a major shift in the way that herbicides are used in many crops, but not necessarily increased the prevalence of herbicide use, especially in wheat. Wheat is one of the most widely grown crops in the world and currently only two major herbicide-resistant wheat groups have been commercialized to manage weeds in a cost-effective manner. However, sustainable wheat production is threatened by the expanding occurrence of herbicide-resistant weed populations with limited efforts to discover new herbicide molecules. Selective control of certain problematic weeds in wheat was impossible until development and introduction of the technologies, Clearfield and Co AXium Production Systems. However, the current limitations of reliance on specific herbicides and evolution of resistant weeds mandate precautions and considerations when using these systems to prevent the loss of existing herbicide resources and continue sustainable wheat production. The focus of this review is to provide an overview of natural pre-existing herbicide resistance and development of herbicide-resistant technologies in wheat. | 8 | pregnane X receptor and constitutive androstane receptor modulate differently CYp3A-mediated metabolism in earlyand late-stage cholestasis显示文摘AIM To ascertain whether cholestasis affects the expression of two CYP3 A isoforms(CYP3 A1 and CYP3 A2) and of pregnane X receptor(PXR) and constitutive androstane receptor(CAR).METHODS Cholestasis was induced by bile duct ligation in 16 male Wistar rats; whereas 8 sham-operated rats were used as controls. Severity of cholestasis was assessed on histological examination of liver sections, and serum concentrations of albumin, AST, ALT, GGT, ALPK and bilirubin. Gene and protein expressions of PXR, CAR, CYP3 A1 and CYP3 A2 were assessed by means of q RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. Alterations in CYP3 A activity were measured by calculating the kinetic parameters of 4-OH and 1'-OH-midazolam hydroxylation, marker reactions for CYP3 A enzymes.RESULTS The m RNA and protein expression of CYP3 A1 increased significantly in mild cholestasis(P < 0.01). At variance, m RNA and protein expression of CYP3 A2 didn't change in mild cholestasis, whereas the expression and activity of both CYP3 A1 and CYP3 A2 decreased dramatically when cholestasis became severe. Consistently with these observations, the nuclear expression of both PXR and CAR, which was measured because they both translocate into the cell nucleus after their activation, virtually disappeared in the late stage of cholestatic injury, after an initial increase. These results indicate that early-and late-stage cholestasis affects CYP3 Amediated drug metabolism differently, probably as consequence of the different activation of PXR and CAR.CONCLUSION Early-and late-stage cholestasis affects CYP3 Amediated drug metabolism differently.
