Technique for Advanced Electrochemical Oxidation Treatment of Nanofiltration Concentrate of Landfill Leachate显示文摘Landfill leachate treated with combined process of 'pretreatment +biological treatment +advanced treatment(NF)' to produce nanofiltration concentrate, which bio-chemical ratio(B/C) is less than 0.1 and CODcr concentration is 2 000-2 500 mg/L, high salt content. Which cannot be discharged under existing environmental standards. According to analysis based on electrochemical advanced oxidation mechanism, a two-step electrochemical technique was recommended. In the first step, a pulse electrochemical technique was adopted. With Fe as consumption electrode and current density of 10 mA/cm2, the pollutants were removed by means of Fenton reaction, electroflotation and electrocoagulation. In the second step, a double function electrode was used to perform electrocatalytic oxidation by means of titanium metallic oxidates. In the condition that current density being 12.5 mA/cm2, the pollutants were further removed by oxidation and electrolytic deposition. Result shows that the removing rate of CODcr, NH3-N and Cl- were 70%-85%, 90% and 25%, respectively; average value of B/C ratio increased from 0.09 to 0.38 and conductivity reduced by 10%. | XIONG Changgui LI Guang ZHANG Zhiliang XIA Zhengwu LI Jian YE Hongji | 2014 | Wuhan University Journal of Natural Sciences2014,19,4: | 4
Immunogenicity and protective efficacy of a recombinant protein subunit vaccine and an inactivated vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 variants in non-human primates显示文摘Emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants and the gradually decreasing neutralizing antibodies over time post vaccination have led to an increase in incidents of breakthrough infection across the world. To investigate the potential protective effect of the recombinant protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine targeting receptor-binding domain(RBD)(PS-RBD)and whole inactivated virus particle vaccine(IV)against the variant strains,in this study, rhesus macaques were immunized with PS-RBD or IV vaccine, followed by a Beta variant(B.1.351)challenge.Although neutralizing activity against the Beta variant was reduced compared with that against the prototype, the decreased viral load in both upper and lower respiratory tracts, milder pathological changes, and downregulated inflammatory cytokine levels in lung tissues after challenge demonstrated that PS-RBD and IV still provided effective protection against the Beta variant in the macaque model.Furthermore,PS-RBD-induced macaque sera possessed general binding and neutralizing activity to Alpha,Beta,Delta, and Omicron variants in our study, though the neutralizing antibody(NAb)titers declined by varying degrees, demonstrating potential protection of PS-RBD against current circulating variants of concern(VOCs).Interestingly, although the IV vaccine-induced extremely low neutralizing antibody titers against the Beta variant,it still showed reduction for viral load and significantly alleviated pathological change.Other correlates of vaccine-induced protection(CoP)like antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity(ADCC)and immune memory were both confirmed to be existing in IV vaccinated group and possibly be involved in the protective mechanism. | Qian He Qunying Mao Xiaozhong Peng Zhanlong He Shuaiyao Lu Jialu Zhang Fan Gao Lianlian Bian Chaoqiang An Wenhai Yu Fengmei Yang Yanan Zhou Yun Yang Yanyan Li Yadi Yuan Xujia Yan Jinghuan Yang Xing Wu Weijin Huang Changgui Li Junzhi Wang Zhenglun Liang Miao Xu | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,4: | 2

Clinical and functional comparison of dynamic hip screws and intramedullary nails for treating proximal femur metastases in older individuals显示文摘Objective:To compare the outcomes of dynamic hip screws(DHS)and intramedullary nailing(IMN)in the treatment of extra-capsular metastatic carcinoma of the proximal femur. Methods:A retrospective case analysis method was used to examine data of patients with proximal metastatic cancer of the femur who were treated with internal fixation in Department of Orthopaedics,Beijing Friendship Hospital, from January 2007 to December 2018.Blood loss, postoperative pain, functional score, length of stay, and survival rates were compared, and postoperative complications were assessed. Results:Complete follow-up data were available for 33 patients. The mean follow-up period was 12.2±3.6(range:9-32)months and the average age was 72.3±4.7(range:59-83)years old. There were 20 females and 13 males.Twenty-three patients had undergone IMN and 10 DHS,according to bone defects and the patient’s overall condition. The median survival time was 10 months in the IMN group and 11 months in the DHS group.Duration of surgery(t=-7.366,P<0.001)and length of hospital stay(t=-3.509,P<0.001)differed significantly between the two groups. There was one case of breakage of internal fixation in the IMN group. Conclusions:There was no significant difference between DHS and IMN in terms of surgical efficacy.IMN and DHS were different in terms of surgical time and hospital stay. However, due to the limited number of cases in this study,multi-factor analysis has not been performed and needs to be further verified in future analysis. When developing a surgical plan,it is recommended to consider the patient’s condition and the surgeon’s experience. | Hua Gao Xiaodong Bai Wentao Chen Yadong Li Liang Zhao Changgui Liu Zhenyu Liu Baojun Wang | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2020,32,3: | 2
Pathophysiology of obesity and its associated diseases显示文摘The occurrence of obesity has increased across the whole world. Many epidemiological studies have indicated that obesity strongly contributes to the development of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, liver diseases and other disorders, accounting for a heavy burden on the public and on health-care systems every year. Excess energy uptake induces adipocyte hypertrophy, hyperplasia and formation of visceral fat in other non-adipose tissues to evoke cardiovascular disease, liver diseases. Adipose tissue can also secrete adipokines and inflammatory cytokines to affect the local microenvironment, induce insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and activate associated inflammatory signaling pathways. This further exacerbates the development and progression of obesity-associated diseases. Although some progress in the treatment of obesity has been achieved in preclinical and clinical studies, the progression and pathogenesis of obesity-induced diseases are complex and unclear. We still need to understand their links to better guide the treatment of obesity and associated diseases. In this review, we review the links between obesity and other diseases, with a view to improve the future management and treatment of obesity and its co-morbidities. | Xin Jin Tingting Qiu Li Li Rilei Yu Xiguang Chen Changgui Li Christopher G.Proud Tao Jiang | 2023 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,6: | 2

COVID-19 vaccines: progress and understanding on quality control and evaluation显示文摘The outbreak of COVID-19 has posed a huge threat to global health and economy.Countermeasures have revolutionized norms for working, socializing, learning, and travel.Importantly, vaccines have been considered as most effective tools to combat with COVID-19.As of the beginning of 2021,>200 COVID-19 vaccine candidates, covering nearly all existing technologies and platforms, are being research and development(R&D)by multiple manufacturers worldwide. This has posed a huge obstacle to the quality control and evaluation of those candidate vaccines, especially in China, where five vaccine platforms are deployed in parallel. To accelerate the R&D progress of COVID-19 vaccines, the guidances on R&D of COVID-19 vaccine have been issued by National Regulatory Authorities or organizations worldwide. The Center for Drug Evaluation and national quality control laboratory in China have played a leading role in launching the research on quality control and evaluation in collaboration with relevant laboratories involved in the vaccine R&D,which greatly supported the progression of vaccines R&D,and accelerated the approval for emergency use and conditional marketing of currently vaccine candidates. In this paper, the progress and experience gained in quality control and evaluation of COVID-19 vaccines developed in China are summarized, which might provide references for the R&D of current and next generation of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide. | Qunying Mao Miao Xu Qian He Changgui Li Shufang Meng Yiping Wang Bopei Cui Zhenglun Liang Junzhi Wang | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,6: | 1
Formulation of pH-responsive PEGylated nanoparticles with high drug loading capacity and programmable drug release for enhanced antibacterial activity显示文摘In the current global crisis of antibiotic resistance, delivery systems are emerging to combat resistant bacteria in a more efficient manner.Despite the significant advances of antibiotic nanocarriers, many challenges like poor biocompatibility, premature drug release, suboptimal targeting to infection sites and short blood circulation time are still challenging. To achieve targeted drug delivery and enhance antibacterial activity, here we reported a kind of pH-responsive nanoparticles by simply self-assembly of an amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)-Schiff-vancomycin(PEG-Schiff-Van)prodrug and free Van in one drug delivery system. The acid-liable Schiff base furnished the PEG-Schiff-Van@Van with good storage stability in the neutral environment and susceptible disassembly in response to faintly acidic condition.Notably,on account of the combination of physical encapsulation and chemical conjugation of vancomycin, these nanocarriers with favorable biocompatibility and high drug loading capacity displayed a programmed drug release behavior, which was capable of rapidly reaching high drug concentration to effectively kill the bacteria at an early period and continuously exerting an bacteria-sensitive effect whenever needed over a long period. In addition, more Schiff-base moieties within the PEG-Schiff-Van@Van nanocarriers may also make great contributions on promoting the antimicrobial activity.Using this strategy, this system was designed to have programmable structural destabilization and sequential drug release due to changes in pH that were synonymous with bacterial infection sites, thereby presenting prominent antibacterial therapy both in vitro and in vivo. This work represents a synergistic strategy on offering important guidance to rational design of multifunctional antimicrobial vehicles, which would be a promising class of antimicrobial materials for potential clinical translation. | Dawei Li Guoke Tang Hui Yao Yuqi Zhu Changgui Shi Qiang Fu Fei Yang Xing Wang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,10: | 1

Conventional tillage improves the storage of soil organic carbon in heavy fractions in the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘Soil labile organic carbon(C) plays an important role in improving soil quality. The relatively stable fractions of soil organic C(SOC) represent the bulk of SOC, and are also the primary determinant of the long-term C balance of terrestrial ecosystems. Different land use types can influence the distribution patterns of different SOC fractions. However, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In the present study, different fractions of SOC were determined in two land use types: a grazed grassland(established on previously cultivated cropland 25 years ago, GG) and a long-term cultivated millet cropland(MC). The results showed that C concentration and C storage of light fractions(LF) and heavy fractions(HF) presented different patterns along the soil profiles in the two sites. More plant residues in GG resulted in 91.9% higher LF storage at the 0–10 cm soil depth, further contributed to 21.9% higher SOC storage at this soil depth; SOC storage at 20–60 cm soil depth in MC was 98.8% higher than that in GG, which could be mainly attributed to the HF storage 104.5% higher than in GG. This might be caused by the long-term application of organic manure, as well as the protection from plough pan and silt- and clay-sized particles. The study indicated that different soil management practices in this region can greatly influence the variations of different SOC fractions, while the conventional tillage can greatly improve the storage of SOC by increasing heavy fractions. | HAN Huige LI Xudong NIU Decao Sharon J HALL GUO Ding WAN Changgui Jennifer K LEARNED FU Hua | 2015 | Journal of Arid Land2015,7,5: | 1

North slope transition zone of Songnan-Baodao sag in Qiongdongnan Basin and its control on medium and large gas fields,South China Sea显示文摘Based on analysis of newly collected 3D seismic and drilled well data, the geological structure and fault system of Baodao sag have been systematically examined to figure out characteristics of the transition fault terrace belt and its control on the formation of natural gas reservoirs. The research results show that the Baodao sag has the northern fault terrace belt, central depression belt and southern slope belt developed, among them, the northern fault terrace belt consists of multiple transition fault terrace belts such as Baodao B,A and C from west to east which control the source rocks, traps, reservoirs, oil and gas migration and hydrocarbon enrichment in the Baodao sag.The activity of the main fault of the transition belt in the sedimentary period of Yacheng Formation in the Early Oligocene controlled the hydrocarbon generation kitchen and hydrocarbon generation potential. From west to east, getting closer to the provenance, the transition belt increased in activity strength, thickness of source rock and scale of delta, and had multiple hydrocarbon generation depressions developed. The main fault had local compression under the background of tension and torsion, giving rise to composite traps under the background of large nose structure, and the Baodao A and Baodao C traps to the east are larger than Baodao B trap.Multiple fault terraces controlled the material source input from the uplift area to form large delta sand bodies, and the synthetic transition belt of the west and middle sections and the gentle slope of the east section of the F12 fault in the Baodao A transition belt controlled the input of two major material sources, giving rise to a number of delta lobes in the west and east branches. The large structural ridge formed under the control of the main fault close to the hydrocarbon generation center allows efficient migration and accumulation of oil and gas.The combination mode and active time of the main faults matched well with the natural gas charging period, resulting in the hydrocarbon gas enrichment.Baodao A transition belt is adjacent to Baodao 27,25 and 21 lows, where large braided river delta deposits supplied by Shenhu uplift provenance develop, and it is characterized by large structural ridges allowing high efficient hydrocarbon accumulation, parallel combination of main faults and early cessation of faulting activity,so it is a favorable area for hydrocarbon gas accumulation.Thick high-quality gas reservoirs have been revealed through drilling, leading to the discovery of the first large-scale gas field in Baodo 21-1 of Baodao sag. This discovery also confirms that the north transition zone of Songnan-Baodao sag has good reservoir forming conditions, and the transition fault terrace belt has great exploration potential eastward. | XU Changgui YOU Li | 2022 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2022,49,6: | 0
