| 3 | 超声乳化联合小梁切除术及术中应用5-氟尿嘧啶治疗青光眼合并白内障的长期疗效观察显示文摘目的探讨超声乳化联合小梁切除术及术中应用5氟尿嘧啶(5fluorouracil,5Fu)治疗青光眼合并白内障的疗效。方法对1996年1月至1998年12月,在新加坡国立眼科中心行超声乳化联合小梁切除术及术中应用5Fu治疗的71例(71只眼)原发性开角型青光眼(POAG)和原发性闭角型青光眼(PACG)患者的临床资料进行回顾性分析。除外随访时间<6个月的患者。结果术后患者平均眼压和平均用药种数均较术前明显降低,差异有统计学意义(P<001)。术后随访1~5年的患者眼压与术前比较均明显下降,差异有统计学意义(P<001)。手术完全成功率1、3及5年分别为842%、627%及553%。在手术完全成功的条件下,POAG与PACG(P=0281)、同一切口与不同切口(P=0487)手术疗效比较(采用Cox模型进行多因素生存分析),手术成功率差异无统计学意义(P>005)。但POAG与PACG术后平均眼压比较,差异有统计学意义(P=002)。术后较术前平均视力提高差异有统计学意义(P<001)。术后与术前平均视野缺损(MD)值(P=055)和模式标准差(PSD)值(P=064)比较,差异无统计学意义,表明患者术后视野保持稳定。术后4d发生眼内炎1例,术后晚期由于脉络膜渗漏和伤口漏引起低眼压2例。结论超声乳化联合小梁切除术及术中应用5Fu治疗POAG和PACG的成功率高,手术安全,长期观察疗效稳定。 | 才瑜 Zena LIM Boon Ang LIM Francis OEN 晏晓明 李美玉 Steve SEAH | 2005 | 中华眼科杂志2005,41,2: | 22 |

| 5 | High-speed colour-converting photodetector with all-inorganic CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals for ultraviolet light communication显示文摘Optical wireless communication(OWC)using the ultra-broad spectrum of the visible-to-ultraviolet(UV)wavelength region remains a vital field of research for mitigating the saturated bandwidth of radio-frequency(RF)communication.However,the lack of an efficient UV photodetection methodology hinders the development of UV-based communication.The key technological impediment is related to the low UV-photon absorption in existing silicon photodetectors,which offer low-cost and mature platforms.To address this technology gap,we report a hybrid Sibased photodetection scheme by incorporating CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals(NCs)with a high photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)and a fast photoluminescence(PL)decay time as a UV-to-visible colourconverting layer for high-speed solar-blind UV communication.The facile formation of drop-cast CsPbBr_(3) perovskite NCs leads to a high PLQY of up to ~73% and strong absorption in the UV region.With the addition of the NC layer,a nearly threefold improvement in the responsivity and an increase of ~25% in the external quantum efficiency(EQE)of the solar-blind region compared to a commercial silicon-based photodetector were observed.Moreover,timeresolved photoluminescence measurements demonstrated a decay time of 4.5 ns under a 372-nm UV excitation source,thus elucidating the potential of this layer as a fast colour-converting layer.A high data rate of up to 34 Mbps in solar-blind communication was achieved using the hybrid CsPbBr_(3)-silicon photodetection scheme in conjunction with a 278-nm UVC light-emitting diode(LED).These findings demonstrate the feasibility of an integrated high-speed photoreceiver design of a composition-tuneable perovskite-based phosphor and a low-cost silicon-based photodetector for UV communication. | Chun Hong Kang Ibrahim Dursun Guangyu Liu Lutfan Sinatra Xiaobin Sun Meiwei Kong Jun Pan Partha Maity Ee-Ning Ooi Tien Khee Ng Omar F.Mohammed Osman M.Bakr Boon S.Ooi | 2019 | Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1: | 14 |
| 6 | Efficacy of small-volume simethicone given at least 30 min before gastroscopy显示文摘AIM To evaluate the efficacy of 5 m L simethicone solution in decreasing gastric foam if given at least 30 min before gastroscopy.METHODS This was a randomized, placebo controlled, endoscopist blinded study performed at Changi General Hospital. Patients were at least 21 years old, had no prior sur-gical resection of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and scheduled for elective diagnostic gastroscopies. The primary outcome was the total mucosal visibility score(TMVS) which was evaluated using Mc Nally score. The sample size was calculated to be 24 per group(SD 2.4, 80% power, P < 0.05, 2-sample t test). RESULTS Fifty-four patients were randomised to receive either simethicone [1 m L liquid simethicone(100 mg) in 5 m L of water] or placebo(5 m L of water) at least 30 min before their gastroscopy. Six accredited consultants conductedthe gastroscopy, and the interobserver agreement of scoring TMVS was good with a Kappa statistic of 0.73. The simethicone group had significantly better mean TMVS compared to placebo(5.78 ± SD 1.65 vs 8.89 ± SD 1.97, P < 0.001). The improvement was statistically significant for the duodenum and the gastric antrum, angularis, body, and fundus. Percent 51.9 of patients in the simethicone group had a TMVS of 4(no bubbles at all) to 5(only 1 area with minimal bubbles), while in the placebo group 3.7% of patients had TMVS of 4 or 5. The number needed to treat was 2.1 to avoid a TMVS of 6 and more. | 7 | Restoration of electrical microenvironment enhances bone regeneration under diabetic conditions by modulating macrophage polarization显示文摘Macrophage-mediated inflammation compromises bone repair in diabetic patients.Electrical signaling cues are known to regulate macrophage functions.However,the biological effects of electrical microenvironment from charged biomaterials on the immune response for regulating osteogenesis under diabetic conditions remain to be elucidated.Herein the endogeneous electrical microenvironment of native bone tissue was recapitulated by fabricating a ferroelectric BaTiO_(3)/poly(vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene)(BTO/P(VDF-TrFE))nanocomposite membrane.In vitro,the polarized BaTiO_(3)/poly(vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene)(BTO/P(VDF-TrFE))nanocomposite membranes inhibited high glucose-induced M1-type inflammation,by effecting changes in cell morphology,M1 marker expression and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion in macrophages.This led to enhanced osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BM-MSCs).In vivo,the biomimetic electrical microenvironment recapitulated by the polarized nanocomposite membranes switched macrophage phenotype from the pro-inflammatory(M1)into the pro-healing(M2)phenotype,which in turn enhanced bone regeneration in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Mechanistic studies revealed that the biomimetic electrical microenvironment attenuated pro-inflammatory M1 macrophage polarization under hyperglycemic conditions by suppressing expression of AKT2 and IRF5 within the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway,thereby inducing favorable osteo-immunomodulatory effects.Our study thus provides fundamental insights into the biological effects of restoring the electrical microenvironment conducive for osteogenesis under DM conditions,and offers an effective strategy to design functionalized biomaterials for bone regeneration therapy in diabetic patients. | Xiaohan Dai Boon Chin Heng Yunyang Bai Fuping You Xiaowen Sun Yiping Li Zhangui Tang Mingming Xu Xuehui Zhang Xuliang Deng | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,7: | 9 |
| 8 | On the mechanical behavior of the human biliary system显示文摘This paper reviews the progress made in understanding the mechanical behaviour of the biliary system. Gallstones and diseases of the biliary tract affect more than 10% of the adult population. The complications of gallstones, i.e. acute pancreatitis and obstructive jandice, can be lethal, and patients with acalculous gallbladder pain often pose diagnostic difficulties and undergo repeated ultrasound scans and oral cholecystograms. Moreover, surgery to remove the gallbladder in these patients, in an attempt to relieve the symptoms, gives variable results. Extensive research has been carried out to understand the physiological and pathological functions of the biliary system, but the mechanism of the pathogenesis of gallstones and pain production still remain poorly understood. It is believed that the mechanical factors play an essential role in the mechanisms of the gallstone formation and biliary diseases. However, despite the extensive literature in clinical studies, only limited work has been carried out to study the biliary system from the mechanical point of view. | 10 | Post-operative strabismus control and motor alignment for basic intermittent exotropia显示文摘AIM:To assess strabismus control and motor ocular alignment for basic exotropia surgery at 5y follow-up.METHODS:The medical records of 80 consecutive patients aged less than 17 years of age,who underwent surgery for basic exotropia by a single surgeon between years 2000 to 2009 and completed a minimum of 5y follow-up post-operatively were reviewed.Pre- and post-operative characteristics were documented at 1wk,6mo,1,3 and 5y follow-up.Subjects at 5-year follow-up were assigned to the success group if they had a postoperative angle of deviation within 10 prism diopters of exotropia or within 5 prism diopters of esotropia for distance on prism cover test,and had moderate to good strabismus control.The remaining subjects were assigned to the failure group.RESULTS:Post-operative surgical success at one week was 75%,which decreased to 41% at 5y follow-up.The success group was noted to have more patching pre-operatively(P=0.003).The duration of patching a day(P=0.020) and total duration of patching preoperatively(P=0.030) was higher in the success group.Surgical success at 1y(P=0.004) and 3y(P=0.002) were associated with higher surgical success at 5y follow-up.CONCLUSION:Post-operative motor alignment and strabismus control for basic exotropia surgery at 1y and beyond is associated with higher exotropia surgery success at 5-year follow-up.There is an association between pre-operative patching and 5-year surgical success of basic intermittent exotropia surgery. | Fiona Chew Lee Min Bhambi Uellyn Gesite-de Leon Boon Long Quah | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,7: | 7 |
| 11 | Survival analysis of cholangiocarcinoma:A 10-year experience in Malaysia显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinical features and survival of patients treated for cholangiocarcinoma in our institution and to analyze the factors affecting their survival.METHODS:This retrospective cohort study assessed patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma between January 1997 and December 2007 at the University Malaya Medical Centre in Malaysia.The clinical data and associated outcomes were collected using a structured proforma.RESULTS:Of the 69 patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma,38 (55%) were male;mean patient age was 61 years.Twelve patients (17%) had intrahepatic,38 (55%) had perihilar and 19 (28%) had distal tumors.Only 12 patients underwent curative surgery,including seven R0 resections.Only one patient died within 30 d after surgery.The overall median survival was 4 mo,whereas the median survival of R0 resected patients was 16 mo.The overall 1-,2-and 3-year cumulative survival rates were 67%,17% and 17%,respectively.Survival rates were significantly associated with curative resection (P=0.002),intrahepatic tumor (P=0.003),negative margin status (P=0.013),early tumor stage (P=0.016),higher tumor differentiation (P=0.032) and absence of jaundice (P=0.038).Multivariate analysis showed that tumor location was a significant independent predictor of patient survival.CONCLUSION:Curative,margin-negative resection of early stage,well-differentiated intrahepatic tumors is associated with improved patient survival. | Ahmad Ramzi Yusoff Mohd Muzammil Abdul Razak Yoong Boon Koon R Vijeyasingam Siti Zuraidah Mahmud | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,5: | 7 |

| 14 | Modified hyaluronic acid hydrogels with chemical groups that facilitate adhesion to host tissues enhance cartilage regeneration显示文摘Stable integration of hydrogel implants with host tissues is of critical importance to cartilage tissue engineering.Designing and fabricating hydrogels with high adhesive strength,stability and regeneration potential are major challenges to be overcome.This study fabricated injectable adhesive hyaluronic acid(HA)hydrogel modified by aldehyde groups and methacrylate(AHAMA)on the polysaccharide backbone with multiple anchoring mechanisms(amide bond through the dynamic Schiff base reaction,hydrogen bond and physical interpenetration).AHAMA hydrogel exhibited significantly improved durability and stability within a humid environment(at least 7 days),together with higher adhesive strength(43 KPa to skin and 52 KPa to glass),as compared to commercial fibrin glue(nearly 10 KPa)and HAMA hydrogel(nearly 20 KPa).The results showed that AHAMA hydrogel was biocompatible and could be easily and rapidly prepared in situ.In vitro cell culture experiments showed that AHAMA hydrogel could enhance proliferation(1.2-folds after 3 days)and migration(1.5-folds after 12 h)of bone marrow stem cells(BMSCs),as compared to cells cultured in a culture dish.Furthermore,in a rat osteochondral defect model,implanted AHAMA hydrogel significantly promoted integration between neo-cartilage and host tissues,and significantly improved cartilage regeneration(modified O’Driscoll histological scores of 16.0±4.1 and 18.3±4.6 after 4 and 12-weeks of post-implantation in AHAMA groups respectively,12.0±2.7 and 12.2±2.8 respectively in HAMA groups,9.8±2.4 and 11.5±2.1 respectively in untreated groups).Hence,AHAMA hydrogel is a promising adhesive biomaterial for clinical cartilage regeneration and other biomedical applications. | Jiaqing Chen Jiabei Yang Li Wang Xuewei Zhang Boon Chin Heng Dong-An Wang Zigang Ge | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,6: | 6 |

| 19 | Garcinol sensitizes human head and neck carcinoma to cisplatin in a xenograft mouse model despite downregulation of proliferative biomarkers显示文摘OBJECTIVE Platinum compounds such as cisplatin and carboplatin are frequently used as the first-line chemotherapy for the treatment of the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC).In the present study,we investigated whether garcinol,apolyisoprenylated benzophenone can chemosensitize HNSCC to cisplatin.METHODS The effect of garcinol and cisplatin on HNSCC was assessed by MTT,Western blotting,real time PCR,FACS,immunohistochemistry,DNA binding assay and xenograft mouse model.RESULTS We found that garcinol inhibited the viability of a panel of diverse HNSCC cell lines,enhanced the apoptotic effect of cisplatin,suppressed constitutive as well as cisplatin-induced NF-κB activation,and downregulated the expression of various oncogenic gene products(cyclin D1,Bcl-2,survivin and VEGF).In vivo study showed that administration of garcinol alone(0.5 mg·kg-1,ip five times/week)significantly suppressed the growth of the tumor,and this effect was further increased by cisplatin.Both the markers of proliferation index(Ki-67)and microvessel density(CD31)were downregulated in tumor tissues by the combination of cisplatin and garcinol.The pharmacokinetic results of garcinol indicated that good systemic exposure was achievable after ip administration of garcinol at 0.5and 2mg·kg-1 with mean peak concentration(cmax)of 1825.4 and 6635.7nmol·L-1 in the mouse serum,respectively.CONCLUSION Overall,our results suggest that garcinol can indeed potentiate the effects of cisplatin by negative regulation of various inflammatory and proliferative biomarkers. | Feng Li Muthu K. | 20 | 内窥镜下睫状体光凝术:概述和亚洲视角(英文)显示文摘青光眼手术治疗方法已被分为睫状体破坏性(减少流入)或滤过性(增加流出)两大类。睫状体破坏性手术传统上用于视力预后差的青光眼以及难治性青光眼如外伤后、无晶状体眼、先天性青光眼和发育性青光眼。自从1992年Uram首次使用内窥镜下睫状体光凝术(endoscopic cyclo-photocoagulation,ECP)以来,短期和长期的转归已经表明ECP的应用前景广阔。本文在PubMed查询、复习有关ECP的英文文献,并与新加坡一所眼科三级医院的有限结果进行比较。文献报告显示出ECP及联合白内障超声乳化术的ECP在治疗小儿及成人严重的、各种病因所致的青光眼方面的安全性和有效性。这在新加坡某眼科三级医院未发表的短期结果中也有报告,与那些已经发表的结果是一致的。已发表的报告和当前的经验证明,可直视目标组织的ECP,通过内窥镜直视将合适的红外波长激光能量应用于目标组织睫状上皮细胞,避免了'盲目'状态下经巩膜睫状体光凝术所引起的并发症。但是引进这项技术存在着显著的经费困难。ECP在控制眼压和减少抗青光眼药物的依赖性方面是安全有效的。广泛接受和使用这一技术仍有待于大规模的随机对照研究。 | E-Shawn Goh Boon Ang Lim Leonard Yip | 2008 | 国际眼科杂志2008,8,9: | 4 |
