| 2 | Extraction of Zr(IV) from hydrochloric acid with tri-octyl amine and Cyanex 921 in kerosene显示文摘This article reports the extraction of zirconium(IV) from aqueous HCl solution by tri-octyl amine(TOA),Cyanex 921,and their binary mixture using kerosene as the diluent.The efect of some parameters on the extraction of Zr(IV) was investigated such as equilibration time,aqueous phase acidity,extractant molarity,chloride ion concentration,nature of diluents,and temperature.The extraction of Zr(IV) was found to be 99% from 7.5 M HCl using the mixture of extractants containing 0.1 M TOA and 0.02 M Cyanex 921 in kerosene.Kerosene was found to be the efective diluent for the extraction of Zr(IV) with the binary mixture of TOA and Cyanex 921.The positive enthalpy change and positive entropy change in the binary extraction system show the endothermic process with an increase in entropy.Stripping of Zr(IV) from the loaded organic phase containing the mixture of TOA(0.1 M) and Cyanex 921(0.02 M) indicates that HNO3and Na2CO3are the best stripping agents. | Bhikari Charan Bhatta Nandita Panda Sujata Mishra | 2013 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2013,20,9: | 5 |
| 3 | Antifungal Effect of Plant Extract and Essential Oil显示文摘The advancement of phytochemical and phytopharmacological sciences has enabled elucidation of the composition and biological activities of several medicinal plant products including plant extract and essential oils. These products have been widely used around the world since ancient times for the treatment of various disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, microbial infection, sexual disorder and many more. Its popularity in the modern system of medicine is mainly due to their availability and fewer adverse reactions compared to synthetic drugs. Various scientific investigations have been conducted to look for the potential of the extract from the plant or isolated compounds for the continued use of these products in the treatment and prevention of various kinds of human diseases. It is evident from the available literature and scientific investigations that many plant species possess potential for use as a beneficial therapeutic remedy with multiple pharmacological actions such as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, hypoglycemic, hypotensive, antimicrobial, antiulcer and anticonvulsant activities. The present review aims to provide relevant updated information about certain plant products, its composition, preparation and its fungicidal or fungistatic effects on different species of fungus as evaluated by studies done in the past. It introduces six medicinal plants that have been studied for their antifungal property and are found to be effective. | 6 | Shifting dynamics of nature, society and agriculture in the Hindu Kush Himalayas: Perspectives for future mountain development显示文摘Current approaches for sustainable mountain development have several persisting warning signals. Economic globalization, profitoriented market development, and infrastructure development have significantly altered traditional nature-society interactions, increased environmental pressures, and challenged agricultural sustainability in the mountains. Some of the effects of globalization could also be beneficial. Social differentiation and disintegration of mountain communities' have weakened their collective stakes on natural resources resulting in decline in initiatives such as community forestry, collective water management, domestication of rapidly disappearing herbal species, and balancing of economic and ecological concerns. Population growth, food insecurity, unemployment, and increasing economic gaps between rich and poor have led to out-migration of youth. Sustained action promoting ownership of new initiatives for rehabilitating degraded mountain landscapes through macro-level global/national initiatives, mountain specific planning and development efforts is severely lacking in many areas on the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. Therefore, there is an urgent need for widening the scope of efforts directed to help mountain areas and communities, and a future thinking approach to enhance the sustainability of mountain areas as they are a valuable natural resource for humankind.
