1Comparison of one and three initial monthly intravitreal ranibizumab injection in patients with macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion显示文摘AIM: To compare three initial monthly intravitreal ranibizumab(IVR) injections followed by pro re nata(PRN) dosing with one initial monthly IVR injections followed by PRN dosing for macular edema(ME) secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO).METHODS: Forty-two eyes of 42 patients who had IVR injections for BRVO were retrospectively studied. Eighteen eyes received 1 initial IVR injection(1+PRN group) and 24 eyes received 3 monthly IVR injections(3+PRN). At 1, 3, 6 and 12mo; spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) was performed. Central macular thickness(CMT), the integrity of the external limiting membrane(ELM), the presence of subretinal fluid, cyst size, the presence of inner segment/outer segment(IS/OS) defect were determined.RESULTS: At baseline the mean CMT was 521.3±153.2 μm in the 3+PRN group while it was 438.1±162.4 μm in 1+PRN group. At the final visit, mean CMT was 278.3±87.8 μm in the 3+PRN group and 285.2±74.2 μm in the 1+PRN group(P=0.079). The changes in CMT over the entire study period were also comparable in both groups(243±160 μm in the 3+PRN group, and 152.9±175.3 μm in the 1+PRN group; P=0.090). At baseline, best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was 0.92±0.60 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution(logMAR) in the 3+PRN group, while it was 0.72±0.46 logMAR in the 1+PRN group. Final BCVA was 0.42±0.55 logMAR in the 3+PRN group and 0.38±0.50 logMAR in the 1+PRN group(P=0.979). Additionally, the BCVA changes from baseline to final visit were not significantly different(-0.50±0.45 logMAR in the 3+PRN group, and-0.33±0.39 logMAR in the 1+PRN group; P=0.255).CONCLUSION: No significant differences in the anatomical or functional results are found between 3+PRN and 1+PRN regimens in the patients receiving ranibizumab for ME secondary to BRVO. 2Demographic determinants of risk,colon distribution and density scores of diverticular disease显示文摘AIM:To investigate associations between ethnicity,age and sex and the risk,colon distribution and density scores of diverticular disease(DD).METHODS:Barium enemas were examined in 1000 patients:410 male,590 female;760 whites,62 Asians,44 black africans(BAs),and 134 other blacks(OBs).Risks and diverticula density of left-sided DD(LSDD) and rightsided-component DD(RSCDD = right-sided DD + right and left DD + Pan-DD) were compared using logistic regression.RESULTS:Four hundred and forty-seven patients had DD(322 LSDD and 125 RSCDD).Adjusted risks:(1) LSDD:each year increase in age increased the odds by 6%(95% CI:5-8,SE:0.8%,P < 0.001);Asians:odds ratio(OR):0.23(95% CI:0.10-0.53,SE:0.1,P ≤ 0.001) and OBs:OR:0.25(95% CI:0.14-0.43,SE:0.07,P ≤ 0.001) appeared protected vs Whites;(2) RSCDD:each year increase in age increased the odds by 4%(95% CI:2-6,SE:1%,P < 0.001);females were 0.60 times(95% CI:0.40-0.90,SE:0.12,P = 0.01) less likely than males to have RSCDD;BAs were 3.51 times(95% CI:1.70-7.24,SE:1.30,P < 0.001) more likely than Whites to have RSCDD;and(3) DD density scores:each year increase in age increased the odds of highdensity scores by 4%(95% CI:1-6,SE:1%,P < 0.001);RSCDD was 2.77 times(95% CI:1.39-3.32,SE:0.67,P < 0.001) more likely to be of high density than LSDD.No further signif icant differences were found in the adjusted models.CONCLUSION:Right colonic DD might be more common and has higher diverticula density in the west than previously reported.BAs appear predisposed to DD,whereas other ethnic differences appear conserved following migration.Mark Golder Irina Chis Ster Pratusha Babu Amita Sharma Muhammad Bayat Abdulkadir Farah 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,8:4
3Germanium separation and purification by leaching and precipitation显示文摘In this research work, extraction and purification of germanium from zinc leach residues(ZLR) were investigated. The results of ICP, XRF, and atomic adsorption spectroscopy(AAS) tests show that contents of germanium, iron, lead, and zinc within the leaching residue were 105×10^(-6), 3.53%, 10.35%, and 8.8%, respectively. XRD results indicate that the main minerals were in different forms of sulfates(CaSO_4·2H_2O, PbSO_4 and ZnSO_4·6H__2O), silicate(SiO_2), and oxide(Fe_2O_3). Dissolution of leaching filter cake was carried out using 5 parameters and each in 4 levels(acid concentration, temperature, time, liquid-to-solid ratio, and stirring speed) by Taguchi method(L_(16)), and then optimization of the effective parameters by response surface method. Under optimum conditions, zinc and germanium dissolution efficiencies were 88.71% and 8%, respectively. Leaching tests with sulfuric acid(added di-ammonium oxalate monohydrate) and hydrochloric acid(HCl) on the residues obtained from previous-stage sulfuric acid dissolution, yielded germanium and iron recoveries of 83%, 88%, 40%, and 90%, respectively. Thus, leaching experiment with sulfuric acid(added di-ammonium oxalate monohydrate) was superior to that with hydrochloric acid due to high and low extraction amounts of germanium and iron, respectively. Precipitation experiments revealed that germanium purification with tannic acid presented a better result compared to sodium hydroxide and ammonia. 4Skin biomechanics:a potential therapeutic intervention target to reduce scarring显示文摘Pathological scarring imposes a major clinical and social burden worldwide.Human cutaneous wounds are responsive to mechanical forces and convert mechanical cues to biochemical signals that eventually promote scarring.To understand the mechanotransduction pathways in cutaneous scarring and develop new mechanotherapy approaches to achieve optimal scarring,the current study highlights the mechanical behavior of unwounded and scarred skin as well as intra-and extracellular mechanisms behind keloid and hypertrophic scars.Additionally,the therapeutic interventions that promote optimal scar healing by mechanical means at the molecular,cellular or tissue level are extensively reviewed.The current literature highlights the significant role of fibroblasts in wound contraction and scar formation via differentiation intomyofibroblasts.Thus,understanding myofibroblasts and their responses to mechanical loading allows the development of new scar therapeutics.A review of the current clinical and preclinical studies suggests that existing treatment strategies only reduce scarring on a small scale after wound closure and result in poor functional and aesthetic outcomes.Therefore,the perspective of mechanotherapies needs to consider the application of both mechanical forces and biochemical cues to achieve optimal scarring.Moreover,early intervention is critical in wound management;thus,mechanoregulation should be conducted during the healing process to avoid scar maturation.Future studies should either consider combining mechanical loading(pressure)therapies with tension offloading approaches for scar management or developing more effective early therapies based on contraction-blocking biomaterials for the prevention of pathological scarring.Motaharesadat Hosseini Jason Brown Kiarash Khosrotehrani Ardeshir Bayat Abbas Shafiee 2022Burns & Trauma2022,10,1:3
5Separation of methane from different gas mixtures using modified silicon carbide nanosheet: Micro and macro scale numerical studies显示文摘This research discusses the separation of methane gas from three different gas mixtures,CH4/H2 S,CH4/N2 and CH4/CO2,using a modified silicon carbide nanosheet(Si CNS)membrane using both molecular dynamics(MD)and computational fluid dynamics(CFD)methods.The research examines the effects of different structures of the Si CNSs on the separation of these gas mixtures.Various parameters including the potential of the mean force,separation factor,permeation rate,selectivity and diffusivity are discussed in detail.Our MD simulations showed that the separation of CH4/H2 S,and CH4/CO2 mixtures was successful,while simulation demonstrated a poor result for the CH4/N2 mixture.The effect of temperature on the diffusivity of gas is also discussed,and a correlation is introduced for diffusivity as a function of temperature.The evaluated value for diffusivity is then used in the CFD method to investigate the permeation rate of gas mixtures.Golchehreh Bayat Roozbeh Saghatchi Jafar Azamat Alireza Khataee 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,5:2

8Nonlinear dynamics of two degree of freedom systems with linear and nonlinear stiffnesses显示文摘In this study,a new analytical approach is developed to analyze the free nonlinear vibration of conservative two-degree-of-freedom(TDOF) systems.The mathematical models of these systems are governed by second–order nonlinear partial differential equations.Nonlinear differential equations were transferred into a single equation by using some intermediate variables.The single nonlinear differential equations are solved by using the first order of the Hamiltonian approach(HA).Different parameters,which have a significant impact on the response of the systems,are considered and discussed.Some comparisons are presented to verify the results between the Hamiltonian approach and the exact solution.The maximum relative error is less than 2.2124 % for large amplitudes of vibration.It has been established that the first iteration of the Hamiltonian approach achieves very accurate results,does not require any small perturbations,and can be used for a wide range of nonlinear problems.Bayat Mahmoud I.Pakar 2013Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2013,12,3:2
9Correlating thermal conductivity of pure hydrocarbons and aromatics via perceptron artificial neural network (PANN) method显示文摘Accurate estimation of liquid thermal conductivity is highly necessary to appropriately design equipments in different industries. Respect to this necessity, in the current investigation a feed-forward artificial neural network(ANN) model is examined to correlate the liquid thermal conductivity of normal and aromatic hydrocarbons at the temperatures range of 257–338 K and atmospheric pressure. For this purpose, 956 experimental thermal conductivities for normal and aromatic hydrocarbons are collected from different previously published literature.During the modeling stage, to discriminate different substances, critical temperature(Tc), critical pressure(Pc)and acentric factor(ω) are utilized as the network inputs besides the temperature. During the examination, effects of different transfer functions and number of neurons in hidden layer are investigated to find the optimum network architecture. Besides, statistical error analysis considering the results obtained from available correlations and group contribution methods and proposed neural network is performed to reliably check the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method. Respect to the obtained results, it can be concluded that the proposed neural network consisted of three layers namely, input, hidden and output layers with 22 neurons in hidden layer was the optimum ANN model. Generally, the proposed model enables to correlate the thermal conductivity of normal and aromatic hydrocarbons with absolute average relative deviation percent(AARD), mean square error(MSE), and correlation coefficient(R^2) of lower than 0.2%, 1.05 × 10^(-7) and 0.9994, respectively.Mostafa Lashkarbolooki Ali Zeinolabedini Hezave Mahdi Bayat 2017Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2017,25,5:2
