| 1 | A hybrid machine learning ensemble approach based on a Radial Basis Function neural network and Rotation Forest for landslide susceptibility modeling:A case study in the Himalayan area, India显示文摘In this paper, a hybrid machine learning ensemble approach namely the Rotation Forest based Radial Basis Function(RFRBF) neural network is proposed for spatial prediction of landslides in part of the Himalayan area(India). The proposed approach is an integration of the Radial Basis Function(RBF) neural network classifier and Rotation Forest ensemble, which are state-of-the art machine learning algorithms for classification problems. For this purpose, a spatial database of the study area was established that consists of 930 landslide locations and fifteen influencing parameters(slope angle, road density, curvature, land use, distance to road, plan curvature, lineament density, distance to lineaments, rainfall,distance to river, profile curvature, elevation, slope aspect, river density, and soil type). Using the database, training and validation datasets were generated for constructing and validating the model. Performance of the model was assessed using the Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve(AUC), statistical analysis methods, and the Chi square test. In addition, Logistic Regression(LR), Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Networks(MLP Neural Nets), Na(?)ve Bayes(NB), and the hybrid model of Rotation Forest and Decision Trees(RFDT) were selected for comparison. | 2 | Interactive effects of drought stress and chitosan application on physiological characteristics and essential oil yield of Thymus daenensis Celak显示文摘Thymus daenensis, a perennial herb, is often grown in areas that experience drought conditions during its growing period. Application of chitosan may compensate for the negative impact of drought stress on the yield of oil and secondary metabolites in Thymus.The interactive effects of foliar application of chitosan and drought stress on dry matter,essential oil yield, and selected physiological characteristics including photosynthetic pigments, osmotic adjustment, and lipid peroxidation of Thymus were investigated in a two-year study from 2014 to 2015. Treatments consisted of 0, 200, and 400(iL L'1 chitosan applied to plants grown under field capacity, mild drought stress(50% field capacity), and severe drought stress(25% field capacity). Dry matter yield decreased substantially as drought stress intensified. However, essential oil content increased under stress conditions,with the highest essential oil yield obtained from plants under mild drought stress. Foliar application of chitosan compensated to some extent for dry matter and oil yield reduction of plants grown under drought stress. The highest essential oil yield(1.52 g plant-1) was obtained by application of 400 \iL L_1 chitosan under the mild stress condition in 2015 when plants were mature. | 3 | Deep learning neural networks for spatially explicit prediction of flash flood probability显示文摘Flood probability maps are essential for a range of applications,including land use planning and developing mitigation strategies and early warning systems.This study describes the potential application of two architectures of deep learning neural networks,namely convolutional neural networks(CNN)and recurrent neural networks(RNN),for spatially explicit prediction and mapping of flash flood probability.To develop and validate the predictive models,a geospatial database that contained records for the historical flood events and geo-environmental characteristics of the Golestan Province in northern Iran was constructed.The step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis(SWARA)was employed to investigate the spatial interplay between floods and different influencing factors.The CNN and RNN models were trained using the SWARA weights and validated using the receiver operating characteristics technique.The results showed that the CNN model(AUC=0.832,RMSE=0.144)performed slightly better than the RNN model(AUC=0.814,RMSE=0.181)in predicting future floods.Further,these models demonstrated an improved prediction of floods compared to previous studies that used different models in the same study area.This study showed that the spatially explicit deep learning neural network models are successful in capturing the heterogeneity of spatial patterns of flood probability in the Golestan Province,and the resulting probability maps can be used for the development of mitigation plans in response to the future floods.The general policy implication of our study suggests that design,implementation,and verification of flood early warning systems should be directed to approximately 40%of the land area characterized by high and very susceptibility to flooding. | Mahdi Panahi Abolfazl Jaafari Ataollah Shirzadi Himan Shahabi Omid Rahmati Ebrahim Omidvar Saro Lee Dieu Tien Bui | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3: | 4 |
| 4 | Investigation of ex-vessel core catcher for SBO accident in VVER-1000/V528 containment using MELCOR code显示文摘To mitigate consequences of core melting,an ex-vessel core catcher is investigated in this study.Instructions should be obeyed to cool down the corium caused by core melting.The corium destroys the reactor containment and causes radioactive materials to be released into the environment if it does not cool down well.It is important to build a core catcher system for the reception,localization,and cool down of the molten corium during a severe accident resulting from core melting.In this study,the role of a core catcher in the VVER-1000/v528 reactor containment during a station black out(SBO)accident is evaluated using the MELCOR1.8.6 code.In addition,parametric analyses of the SBO for(i)SBO accidents with emergency core cooling system(ECCS)operation,and(ii)without ECCS operation are performed.Furthermore,thermal–hydraulic analyses in dry and wet cavities with/without water are conducted.The investigations include the reduction of gases resulting from molten–corium–concrete interactions(H_(2),CO,CO_(2)).Core melting,gas production,and the pressure/temperature in the reactor containment are assessed.Additionally,a full investigation pertaining to gas release(H_(2),CO,CO_(2))and the pressure/temperature of the core catcher is performed.Based on MELCOR simulations,a core cavity and a perimeter water channel are the best options for corium cooling and a lower radionuclide release.This simulation is also theoretically investigated and discussed herein.The simulation results show that the core catcher system in addition to an internal sacrificial material reduces the containment pressure from 689 to 580 kPa and the corresponding temperature from 394 to 380 K.Furthermore,it is observed that the amount of gases produced,particularly hydrogen,decreased from 1698 to 1235 kg.Moreover,the presence of supporting systems,including an ECCS with a core catcher,prolonged the core melting time from 16,430 to 28,630 s(in an SBO accident)and significantly decreased the gases produced. | Farhad Salari Ataollah Rabiee Farshad Faghihi | 2021 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2021,32,4: | 4 |
| 5 | Effects of rainfall patterns on runoff and soil erosion in field plots显示文摘Soil erosion processes during a storm are strongly affected by intra-storm variations in rainfall characteristics.Four storm patterns,each with a different rainfall intensity variation were separated.The storm patterns were:(1)increasing rainfall intensity(2)increasing then decreasing intensity(3)decreasing intensity(4)decreasing then increasing intensity.After each erosive rainfall(12 events),Runoff and suspended sediment samples were collected in each plot's tank which is located on hillslopes of the basin of Khamsan.Main storm characteristics and soil losses were plotted and equation of the line of best fit were selected.Analysis of variance(ANOVA)was used to determine response of runoff and soil erosion to storm patterns.Results showed that in lower rainfall intensities a linear function fits the relationship between soil loss and rainfall intensity whereas this function tends to be non-linear at higher intensities.Also a strong non-linear relationship was found between different quartiles of storm and soil loss.Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in total runoff,soil loss and sediment concentration across four storm patterns(P<0.001)but no differences in the runoff coefficient.In particular,storms with increasing rainfall intensity yielded highest quantities of eroded sediments,total runoff and highest sediment concentrations followed by increasing then decreasing,decreasing then increasing and decreasing intensity,respectively. | Mohamad Ayob Mohamadi Ataollah Kavian | 2015 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2015,3,4: | 3 |
| 6 | Soil loss and displacement by heavy equipment in forest road subgrading projects显示文摘Forest soil is an important component of the natural environment,and is a primary medium for many biological activities. In this study,soil loss and displacement by excavator and bulldozer(heavy equipments) were measured on cut and fills slopes of forest roads located in Mazandaran province,Iran. The volumes of soil losses were estimated by prismoidal analyses of cut and fill slopes deformation between two time treatments(under subgrading and two years later) in slope classes of 30-50% and 50-70%. Weights of soil losses were calculated by multiplying the volumes of soil losses(cm3) to the general bulk density(1.3g/cm3) . Soil displaced area by heavy equipment was evaluated according to earth working width. Results indicated that heavy equipment has significant effect on deformation of cut slope gradient and fill slope length(p<0.0001) . During the two-year period,the cut(p<0.0002) and fill(p<0.0001) slope gradients were significantly deformed in different slope classes. The average soil loss by excavator and bulldozer were 160.35 t/ha·yr and 429.09 t/ha·yr,respectively. Moreover,the soil displaced area during the subgrading process by bulldozer was greater than excavator in both two slope classes(p<0.05) . | 10 | Canopy cover or remotely sensed vegetation index,explanatory variables of above-ground biomass in an arid rangeland,Iran显示文摘Estimation of above-ground biomass is vital for understanding ecological processes. Since direct measurement of above-ground biomass is destructive, time consuming and labor intensive, canopy cover can be considered as a predictor if a significant correlation between the two variables exists. In this study, relationship between canopy cover and above-ground biomass was investigated by a general linear regression model. To do so, canopy cover and above-ground biomass were measured at 5 sub-life forms(defined as life forms grouped in the same height classes) using 380 quadrats, which is systematic-randomly laid out along a 10-km transect, during four sampling periods(May, June, August, and September) in an arid rangeland of Marjan, Iran. To reveal whether obtained canopy cover and above-ground biomass of different sampling periods can be lumped together or not, we applied a general linear model(GLM). In this model, above-ground biomass was considered as a dependent or response variable, canopy cover as an independent covariate or predictor factor and sub-life forms as well as sampling periods as fixed factors. Moreover, we compared the estimated above-ground biomass derived from remotely sensed images of Landsat-8 using NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index), after finding the best regression line between predictor(measured canopy cover in the field) and response variable(above-ground biomass) to test the robustness of the induced model. Results show that above-ground biomass(response variable) of all vegetative forms and periods can be accurately predicted by canopy cover(predictor), although sub-life forms and sampling periods significantly affect the results. The best regression fit was found for short forbs in September and shrubs in May, June and August with R^2 values of 0.96, 0.93 and 0.91, respectively, whilst the least significant was found for short grasses in June, tall grasses in August and tall forbs in June with R^2 values of 0.71, 0.73 and 0.75, respectively. Even though the estimated above-ground biomass by NDVI is also convincing(R^2=0.57), the canopy cover is a more reliable predictor of above-ground biomass due to the higher R^2 values(from 0.75 to 0.96). We conclude that canopy cover can be regarded as a reliable predictor of above-ground biomass if sub-life forms and sampling periods(during growing season) are taken into account. Since,(1) plant canopy cover is not distinguishable by remotely sensed images at the sub-life form level, especially in sparse vegetation of arid and semi-arid regions, and(2) remotely sensed-based prediction of above-ground biomass shows a less significant relationship(R^2=0.57) than that of canopy cover(R^2 ranging from 0.75 to 0.96), which suggests estimating of plant biomass by canopy cover instead of cut and weighting method is highly recommended. GAPDH and KAI1/CD82 were selected as reference and target genes, respectively. Quantitative real time PCR technique was applied for investigation of KAI1/CD82 gene expression in human breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Subsequently, the quantity of KAI1 compared to GAPDH gene expressions were analyzed using the formula; 2^(-DDCt).Results: Imatinib was showed to have a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the viability of MCF-7 cells.
