1Significant increase in HBV, HCV, HIV and syphilis infections among blood donors in West Bengal, Eastern India 2004-2005: Exploratory screening reveals high frequency of occult HBV infection显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of markers of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among blood donors in Kolkata, Eastern India for two consecutive years and to conduct a pilot study to explore the presence of HBV DNA among hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative but anti-HBc positive blood donors. METHODS: Seroprevalence of HBsAg, anti-HCV and anti-HIV was studied among 113 051 and 106 695 voluntary blood donors screened in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Moreover, a pilot study on 1027 HBsAg negative donors was carried out for evaluating the presence of HBV DNA by PCR on HBsAg negative/anti- HBc positive donors. RESULTS: A statistically significant increase in the prevalence of HBV (1448 vs 1768, P < 0.001), HIV (262 vs 374, P < 0.001), HCV (314 vs 372, P = 0.003) and syphilis (772 vs 853, P = 0.001) infections was noted among blood donors of Kolkata West Bengal in 2005 as compared to 2004. Moreover, the exploratory study on 1027 HBsAg negative donors revealed that 188 (18.3%)of them were anti-HBc positive out of which 21% were positive for HBV DNA. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study underscore the significantly increasing endemicity of hepatitis viruses, syphilis and HIV among the voluntary blood donors of our community. 3Regulation of microRNA by hepatitis B virus infection and their possible association with control of innate immunity显示文摘Hepatitis B virus(HBV)chronically infects more than350 million people worldwide.HBV causes acute and chronic hepatitis,and is one of the major causes of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.There exist complex interactions between HBV and the immune system including adaptive and innate immunity.Tolllike receptors(TLRs)and TLR-signaling pathways are important parts of the innate immune response in HBV infections.It is well known that TLR-ligands could suppress HBV replication and that TLRs play important roles in anti-viral defense.Previous immunological studies demonstrated that HBV e antigen(HBeAg)is more efficient at eliciting T-cell tolerance,including production of specific cytokines IL-2 and interferon gamma,than HBV core antigen.HBeAg downregulates cytokine production in hepatocytes by the inhibition of MAPK or NF-κB activation through the interaction with receptor-interacting serine/threonine protein kinase.MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are also able to regulate various biological processes such as the innate immune response.When the expressions of approximately 1000 miRNAs were compared between human hepatoma cells HepG2 and HepG2.2.15,which could produce HBV virion that infects chimpanzees,using real-time RT-PCR,we observed several different expression levels in miRNAs related to TLRs.Although we and others have shown that HBV modulates the host immune response,several of the miRNAs seem to be involved in the TLR signaling pathways.The possibility that alteration of these miRNAs during HBV infection might play a critical role in innate immunity against HBV infection should be considered.This article is intended to comprehensively review the association between HBV and innate immunity,and to discuss the role of miRNAs in the innate immune response to HBV infection.Xia Jiang Tatsuo Kanda Shuang Wu Masato Nakamura Tatsuo Miyamura Shingo Nakamoto Arup Banerjee Osamu Yokosuka 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,23:6
4Predicting accurate cathode properties of layered oxide materials using the SCAN meta-GGA density functional显示文摘Layered lithium intercalating transition metal oxides are promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.Here,we scrutinize the recently developed strongly constrained and appropriately normed(SCAN)density functional method to study structural,magnetic,and electrochemical properties of prototype cathode materials LiNiO_(2),LiCoO_(2),and LiMnO_(2) at different Li-intercalation limits.We show that SCAN outperforms earlier popular functional combinations,providing results in considerably better agreement with experiment without the use of Hubbard parameters,and dispersion corrections are found to have a small effect.In particular,SCAN fares better than Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof(PBE)functional for the prediction of band-gaps and absolute voltages,better than PBE+U for the electronic density of states and voltage profiles,and better than both PBE and PBE+U for electron densities and in operando lattice parameters.This overall better performance of SCAN may be ascribed to improved treatment of localized states and a better description of short-range dispersion interactions.Arup Chakraborty Mudit Dixit Doron Aurbach Dan T.Major 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:4

6Distribution of hepatitis B virus genotypes:Phylogenetic analysis and virological characteristics of Genotype C circulating among HBV carriers in Kolkata,Eastern India显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the genotype distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in Eastern India and to clarify the phyloge- netic origin and virological characteristics of the recently identifi ed genotype C in this region. METHODS: Genotype determination, T1762/A1764 mutation in the basal core promoter (BCP) and A1896 mutation in the precore region of 230 subjects were de- termined by restriction fragment length polymorphism method (RFLP) and the result was confi rmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS: The predominant genotypes D (HBV/D) and A (HBV/A) were detected in 131/230 (57%) and 57/230 (25%) samples. In addition, genotype C (HBV/C) was detected in 42/230 (18%) isolates. Surface gene region was sequenced from 45 isolates (27 HBV/C, 9 HBV/A and 9 HBV/D). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all of the HBV/C sequences clustered with South East Asian subgenotype (HBV/Cs). The sequence data showed re- markable similarity with a Thai strain (AF068756) (99.5% ± 0.4% nucleotide identities) in 90% of the genotype C strains analyzed. T1762/A1764 mutation in BCP re- gion, associated with high ALT was signifi cantly higher in HBeAg negative isolates than HBeAg positive isolates. Frequency of A1896 mutation leading to HBeAg negativ- ity was low.CONCLUSION: The present study reports the genotypic distribution and the characteristics of partial genome sequences of HBV/C isolates from Eastern India. Low genetic diversity and confi nement of HBV/C in Eastern India possibly indicate a recent, limited, spread in this region. 7Multitask deep-learning-based design of chiral plasmonic metamaterials显示文摘The field of chiral plasmonics has registered considerable progress with machine-learning(ML)-mediated metamaterial prototyping,drawing from the success of ML frameworks in other applications such as pattern and image recognition.Here,we present an end-to-end functional bidirectional deep-learning(DL)model for three-dimensional chiral metamaterial design and optimization.This ML model utilizes multitask joint learning features to recognize,generalize,and explore in detail the nontrivial relationship between the metamaterials’geometry and their chiroptical response,eliminating the need for auxiliary networks or equivalent approaches to stabilize the physically relevant output.Our model efficiently realizes both forward and inverse retrieval tasks with great precision,offering a promising tool for iterative computational design tasks in complex physical systems.Finally,we explore the behavior of a sample ML-optimized structure in a practical application,assisting the sensing of biomolecular enantiomers.Other potential applications of our metastructure include photodetectors,polarization-resolved imaging,and circular dichroism(CD)spectroscopy,with our ML framework being applicable to a wider range of physical problems.Eric Ashalley Kingsley Acheampong Lucas VBesteiro Peng Yu Arup Neogi Alexander OGovorov Zhiming M.Wang 2020Photonics Research2020,8,7:3
8A generic method for rock mass classification显示文摘Rock mass classification(RMC) is of critical importance in support design and applications to mining,tunneling and other underground excavations. Although a number of techniques are available, there exists an uncertainty in application to complex underground works. In the present work, a generic rock mass rating(GRMR) system is developed. The proposed GRMR system refers to as most commonly used techniques, and two rock load equations are suggested in terms of GRMR, which are based on the fact that whether all the rock parameters considered by the system have an influence or only few of them are influencing. The GRMR method has been validated with the data obtained from three underground coal mines in India. 13Application of Statistical Tools for Data Analysis and Interpretation in Rice Plant Pathology显示文摘There has been a significant advancement in the application of statistical tools in plant pathology during the past four decades. These tools include multivariate analysis of disease dynamics involving principal component analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, pattern analysis, discriminant analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, correspondence analysis, canonical correlation analysis, redundancy analysis, genetic diversity analysis, and stability analysis, which involve in joint regression, additive main effects and multiplicative interactions, and genotype-by-environment interaction biplot analysis. The advanced statistical tools, such as non-parametric analysis of disease association, meta-analysis, Bayesian analysis, and decision theory, take an important place in analysis of disease dynamics. Disease forecasting methods by simulation models for plant diseases have a great potentiality in practical disease control strategies. Common mathematical tools such as monomolecular, exponential, logistic, Gompertz and linked differential equations take an important place in growth curve analysis of disease epidemics. The highly informative means of displaying a range of numerical data through construction of box and whisker plots has been suggested. The probable applications of recent advanced tools of linear and non-linear mixed models like the linear mixed model, generalized linear model, and generalized linear mixed models have been presented. The most recent technologies such as micro-array analysis, though cost effective, provide estimates of gene expressions for thousands of genes simultaneously and need attention by the molecular biologists. Some of these advanced tools can be well applied in different branches of rice research, including crop improvement, crop production, crop protection, social sciences as well as agricultural engineering.
