| 3 | Hepatoprotective effect of Solatium xanthocarpum fruit extract against CCl_4 induced acute liver toxicity in experimental animals显示文摘Objective:To investigate the hepatoprotective potential of Solonum xanthocarpum(Solanaceae) (S.xanthocarpum) in experimental rats to validate its traditional claim.Methods:50%ethanolic fruit extract of S.xanthocarpum(SXE,100.200 or 400 mg/kg hods weight) was administered daily for 14davs in experimental animals.Liver injury was induced chemically,by CCl4 administration (1 mL/kg i.p.).The hepatoprotective activity was assessed using various biochemical parameters like aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT).Serum alkaline phosphatise (SALP) and total bilirubin.Meanwhile,in vivo antioxidant activities as lipid peroxidation(LPO), reduced glutathione(GSH).superoxide dismutase(SOD) and calalase(CAT) were screened along with histopathological studies.Results:Obtained results demonstrated that the treatment with SXE significantly(P<0.05- <0.001) and dose-dcpendcntly prevented chemically induced increase in serum levels of hepatic enzymes.Furthermore.SXE significantly(up to P<0.001) reduced the lipid peroxidation in the liver tissue and restored activities of defence antioxidant enzymes GSH,SOU and catalasc towards normal levels.Histopathology of the liver tissue showed that SXE attenuated the hepatocellular necrosis and led to reduction of inflammatory cells inflltration. | 6 | Higher-order topological insulators in synthetic dimensions显示文摘Conventional topological insulators support boundary states with dimension one lower than that of the bulk system that hosts them,and these states are topologically protected due to quantized bulk dipole moments.Recently,higherorder topological insulators have been proposed as a way of realizing topological states with dimensions two or more lower than that of the bulk due to the quantization of bulk quadrupole or octupole moments.However,all these proposals as well as experimental realizations have been restricted to real-space dimensions.Here,we construct photonic higher-order topological insulators(PHOTIs)in synthetic dimensions.We show the emergence of a quadrupole PHOTI supporting topologically protected corner modes in an array of modulated photonic molecules with a synthetic frequency dimension,where each photonic molecule comprises two coupled rings.By changing the phase difference of the modulation between adjacent coupled photonic molecules,we predict a dynamical topological phase transition in the PHOTI.Furthermore,we show that the concept of synthetic dimensions can be exploited to realize even higher-order multipole moments such as a fourth-order hexadecapole(16-pole)insulator supporting 0D corner modes in a 4D hypercubic synthetic lattice that cannot be realized in real-space lattices. | Avik Dutt Momchil Minkov Ian A.D.Williamson Shanhui Fan | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 3 |

| 13 | Liquid ordering induced heterogeneities in homogeneous nucleation during solidification of pure metals显示文摘Homogeneous crystal nucleation is prone to formation of defects and often experiences heterogeneities,the inferences of which are crucial in processing crystalline materials and controlling their physical properties. It has been debated in literature whether the associated heterogeneities are an integral part of the homogenous nucleation. In this study by integrating a probabilistic approach with large-scale molecular dynamics simulations based on the most advanced high-temperature interatomic potentials, we attempt to address the ambiguity over the sources and mechanisms of heterogeneities in homogenous nucleation during solidification of pure melts. Different classes of structured metals are investigated for this purpose,including face-centered cubic aluminum, body-centered cubic iron, and hexagonal close-packed magnesium.
