1TAOK1 negatively regulates IL-17-mediated signaling and inflammation显示文摘Interleukin 17(IL-17)is an important cytokine that can induce tissue inflammation and is involved in the pathogenesis of numerous autoimmune diseases.However,the regulation of its signaling transduction has not been well described.In this study,we report that thousand and one kinase 1(TAOK1)functions as a negative regulator of IL-17-mediated signal transduction and inflammation.TAOK1 knockdown promotes IL-17-induced cytokine and chemokine expression and the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases and nuclear factor-κB.We further demonstrate that TAOK1 interacts with IL-17 receptor A(IL-17RA)independent of its kinase activity,and TAOK1 dose-dependently prevents the formation of the IL-17R-Act1(nuclear factor activator 1,also known as tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 interacting protein 2)complex.Consistent with this,TAOK1 deficiency exacerbates colitis in the 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid-induced experimental model of inflammatory bowel disease,likely by its promotion of the IL-17-mediated signaling pathway.TAOK1 expression is decreased in the colons of ulcerative colitis patients.In conclusion,these findings suggest that TAOK1 is involved in the development of IL-17-related autoimmune disorders.Zhaoru Zhang Zhen Tang Xianwei Ma Kai Sun Liping Fan Jie Fang Jianping Pan Xiaojian Wang Huazhang An Jun Zhou 2018Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,8:10
2Effect of curcumin on rats/mice with diabetic nephropathy: a systematic review and Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the renal protective effects of curcumin administration ondiabetic rats/mice.METHODS: Databases were searched electronically and conference papers searched manually for search terms to find relevant studies. Articles were assessed independently by two reviewers. Review Manager 5.1 was used fordata analysis.RESULTS: Fourteen randomized controlled experiments were included. 3Energy distribution in white organic light-emitting diodes with three primary color emitting layers显示文摘Two types of organic light-emitting diodes with structures of ITO/N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl,1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (NPB)/tris(8-hydroquinolinato)aluminum(Alq 3)/2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-l,10-phenanthroline(BCP)/Alq 3:4-dicyanomethylene-2-(tert-butyl)-6-methyl-4H-pyran(DCJTB)/Alq 3 /Al and ITO/NPB/BCP/Alq 3 /Alq 3:DCJTB/Alq 3 /Al were studied.NPB was chosen as a hole-transporting/blue-emitting layer.Alq 3 adjacent to BCP acted as a green emitting layer while that adjacent to the Al cathode acted as an electron-transporting layer.Alq 3 doped with 2 wt.% DCJTB was used as a red emitting layer.The operating principles of the devices were explained by the mechanism of F rster energy transfer and the hole and exciton blocking effect of BCP.It was found that the spectral characteristics of the devices strongly depended on the relative location between the green emitting Alq 3 layer and the BCP layer,as well as their thickness.Pure white emission with the CIE coordinates of (0.33,0.33) was achieved by mixing the three primary colors in the device with the structure of ITO/NPB(30 nm)/BCP(6 nm)/Alq 3 (30 nm)/Alq 3:DCJTB(30 nm)/Alq 3 (30 nm)/Al.The BCP layer played an important role in distributing the exciton energy among the three emitting layers to achieve a balanced white light.The white emission of this device was largely insensitive to the driving voltage (15-27 V) with the insertion of the green emitting Alq 3 layer.MENG LingChuan LOU ZhiDong YANG ShengYi DENG ZhaoRu 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,1:3
4Intrusions of Kuroshio and Shelf Waters on Northern Slope of South China Sea in Summer 2015显示文摘The northern slope region of the South China Sea(SCS) is a biological hot spot characterized by high primary productivity and biomasses transported by cross-shelf currents, which support the spawning and growth of commercially and ecologically important fish species. To understand the physical and biogeochemical processes that promote the high primary production of this region, we conducted a cruise from June 10 and July 2, 2015. In this study, we used fuzzy cluster analysis and optimum multiparameter analysis methods to analyze the hydrographic data collected during the cruise to determine the compositions of the upper 55-m water masses on the SCS northern slope and thereby elucidate the cross-slope transport of shelf water(SHW) and the intrusions of Kuroshio water(KW). We also analyzed the geostrophic currents derived from acoustic Doppler current profiler measurements and satellite data. The results reveal the surface waters on the northern slope of the SCS to be primarily composed of waters originating from South China Sea water(SCSW), KW, and SHW. The SCSW dominated a majority of the study region at percentages ranging between 60% and 100%. 5Facilely fabricating superhydrophobic coated-mesh materials for effective oil-water separation:Effect of mesh size towards various organic liquids显示文摘Effective oil-water separation is a continuous pursuit,not only for scientific research but also for engineering application,because oil spills are causing the great pollution in the current ocean environment.Here we reported a superhydrophobic coated-mesh,where the coatings were composed of fluorinated silica(F-SiO2)and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS),demonstrating the excellent oil-water separation ability towards various organic liquids.The introduction of F-SiO2 could well induce a certain extent of microscopic roughness,leading to the remarkable water repellence.The resultant coatings exhibited the robust superhydrophobicity with the water contact angle reaching 155.9°±1.0°.On this basis,the pore size of polyethylene terephthalate(PET)mesh materials(as a substrate)was mainly discussed with the great oil-water separation efficiency of as high as 98%towards various organic liquids.Also,under the assistance of physical model,it was confirmed that there was a mechanical relation between pore size and organic liquids,where the main connotation was the matching issue of surface tension of organic liquids with the geometrical mechanic(induced by the pore size of the superhydrophobic coated-mesh).This work on the size effect of superhydrophobic coated-mesh materials on various organic liquids is beneficial to the design and manu facture of ideal oil-water separation materials.Haifeng Chen Yizhou Shen Zhaoru He Zhengwei Wu Xinyu Xie 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,16:1
6The Upper 1000-m Slope Currents North of the South Shetland Islands and Elephant Island Based on Ship Cruise Observations显示文摘While the Antarctic Slope Current(ASC) has been intensively studied for the East Antarctica slope area and the Weddell Sea, its fate in the western Antarctic Peninsula(WAP) region remains much less known. Data from two cruises conducted near the South Shetland Islands(SSIs) and the Elephant Island(EI), one in austral summer of 2004 and one in austral winter of 2006, were analyzed to provide a broad picture of the circulation pattern over the continental slope of the surveyed area, and an insight into the dynamical balance of the circulation. The results indicate that southwestward currents are present over the upper slope in the study area, indicating the ASC in the WAP region. Near the Shackleton Gap(SG) north of the EI, the southwestward slope currents near the shelf break are characterized by a water mass colder and fresher than the ambient water, which produces cross-slope density gradients and then vertical shear of the along-slope(or along-isobath) velocity. The vertical shear is associated with a reversal of the along-slope current from northeastward at surface to southwestward in deeper layers, or a depth-intensification of the southwestward slope currents. The water mass with temperature and salinity characteristics similar to the observed cold and fresh water is also revealed on the southern slope of the Scotia Sea, suggesting that this cold and fresh water is originated from the Scotia Sea slope and flows southwestward through the SG. Over the shelf north of the SSIs, the cold and fresh water mass is also observed and originates mainly from the Bransfield Strait. 8Seasonal linkage of the Southern Hemisphere extratropical climate variability to two types of ENSO显示文摘This study uses the Climate Forecast System Reanalysis(CFSR) to investigate the responses of the Southern Hemisphere(SH) extratropical climate to two types of El Nino–Southern Oscillation(ENSO)-the eastern Pacific(EP) type and the central Pacific(CP) type in different seasons. The responses are denoted by the anomalies of climate variables associated with one-standard-deviation increase in the Nino3 or Nino4 index. The results show that in austral spring the differences in the ENSO-related anomaly(ERA) patterns of atmospheric circulation between the EP ENSO period(1979–1998) and CP ENSO period(1999–2010) are mainly associated with the change in the ENSO-PSA2 relationship. Such differences affect the ERA fields of surface air temperature and mixed layer temperature, and finally result in significant differences in sea-ice concentration anomalies in the Atlantic sector. In austral summer, significant correlation exists between the variations of SAM and both of the variations of Nino3 and Nino4 in 1979–1998, while the correlation between SAM and Nino4 disappears in 1999–2010. For all seasons, the strength of the climate ERAs depend on if there are close relationship between ENSO and the major climate variation modes of the SH extratropics. For the climate variables, the ERA patterns of surface air temperature are generally controlled by surface wind anomalies and mirrored by the mixed layer temperature anomalies. The mixed layer depth anomalies are primarily modulated by surface heat flux anomalies and occasionally by anomalous wind. There are strikingly strong anomalies of surface heat flux in the autumn of 1979–1998 related to the Nino3 variation, the period when there is only significant correlation between ENSO and PSA2. 9An overview of Antarctic polynyas: sea ice production, forcing mechanisms, temporal variability and water mass formation显示文摘Polynyas are irregular open water bodies within the sea ice cover in polar regions under freezing weather conditions.In this study,we reviewed the progress of research work on dynamical forcing,sea ice production(SIP),and water mass formation for both coastal polynyas and open-ocean polynyas in the Southern Ocean,as well as the variability and controlling mechanisms of polynya processes on different time scales.Polynyas play an irreplaceable role in the regulation of global ocean circulation and biological processes in regional ocean ecosystems.The coastal polynyas(latent heat polynyas)are mainly located in the Weddell Sea,the Ross Sea and on the west side of protruding topographic features in East Antarctica.During the formation of coastal polynyas,which are mainly forced by offshore winds or ocean currents,brine rejection triggered by high SIP results in the formation of high salinity shelf water,which is the predecessor of the Antarctic bottom water-the lower limb of the global thermohaline circulation.The open-ocean polynyas(sensible heat polynyas)are mainly found in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean,which are formed by ocean convection processes generated by topography and negative wind stress curl.The convection processes bring nutrients into the upper ocean,which supports biological production and makes the polynya regions an important sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide.The limitations and challenges in polynya research are also discussed.WEI Zheng ZHANG Zhaoru Timo VIHMA WANG Xiaoqiao CHEN Yuanjie 2021Advances in Polar Science2021,32,4:1

13Variations and relations between chlorophyll concentrations and physical-ecological processes near the West Antarctic Peninsula显示文摘The West Antarctic Peninsula(WAP)region is one of the most productive marine ecosystems in the Southern Ocean that support the food web for phytoplankton,krill spawning or recruitment and several krill consumers at higher-trophic level like penguins and Antarctic fur seals.Characterized by channels and islands,the complex topography of the WAP generates interconnected circulation patterns,strongly influencing vertical stratification,nutrient availability and distribution of marine organisms.Additionally,rapid climate change associated with major climate modes like the Southern Annular Mode(SAM)and El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)has significant effects on long-term variations of physical environments and biological production.The objective of this study is to reveal the spatial-temporal variations of phytoplankton biomass in the WAP region and the modulating physical-ecological processes.By using 9-year hydrographic and ecological data of five transects collected by the Palmer Long-Term Ecosystem Research,the horizontal and vertical distributions of several physical and ecological properties,with a particular focus on chlorophyll(Chl)concentration were explored.Regression analysis among area-averaged properties and properties at single stations was performed to reveal the relationship between the interannual variations of physical and ecological processes.The correlation results showed that Chl concentration exhibited a positive relationship with both the circumpolar deep water(CDW)intrusion and vertical stratification,but showed a negative correlation with SAM at some specific stations.However,certain processes or mechanisms may only be dominant for specific stations and not applicable to the entire region.No single physical or ecological factors have been found to significantly influence the Chl distribution throughout the WAP region,which may be attributed to the heterogeneity of sea ice conditions,geometry and hydrodynamic features as well as variations in nutrient sources.WU Shuang ZHANG Zhaoru WANG Chuning 2023Advances in Polar Science2023,34,4:0
14The connection of phytoplankton biomass in the Marguerite Bay polynya of the western Antarctic Peninsula to the Southern Annular Mode显示文摘Antarctic coastal polynyas are biological hotspots in the Southern Ocean that support the abundance of hightrophic-level predators and are important for carbon cycling in the high-latitude oceans.In this study,we examined the interannual variation of summertime phytoplankton biomass in the Marguerite Bay polynya(MBP)in the western Antarctic Peninsula area,and linked such variability to the Southern Annular Mode(SAM)that dominated the southern hemisphere extratropical climate variability.Combining satellite data,atmosphere reanalysis products and numerical simulations,we found that the interannual variation of summer chlorophyll-a(Chl-a)concentration in the MBP is significantly and negatively correlated with the spring SAM index,and weakly correlated with the summer SAM index.The negative relation between summer Chl-a and spring SAM is due to weaker spring vertical mixing under a more positive SAM condition,which would inhibit the supply of iron from deep layers into the surface euphotic layer.The negative relation between spring mixing and spring SAM results from greater precipitation rate over the MBP region in positive SAM phase,which leads to lower salinity in the ocean surface layer.The coupled physical-biological mechanisms between SAM and phytoplankton biomass revealed in this study is important for us to predict the future variations of phytoplankton biomasses in Antarctic polynyas under climate change.Ning Jiang Zhaoru Zhang Ruifeng Zhang Chuning Wang Meng Zhou 2024Acta Oceanologica Sinica2024,43,1:0
15Statistical characteristics of mesoscale eddies on the continental slope in the northern South China Sea显示文摘The continental slope in the northern South China Sea(SCS) is rich in mesoscale eddies which play an important role in transport and retention of nutrients and biota. In this study, we investigate the statistical properties of eddy distributions and propagation in a period of 24 years between 1993 and 2016 by using the altimeter data. A total of 147 eddies are found in the continental slope region(CSR), including 70 cyclonic eddies(CEs) and 77 anticyclonic eddies(ACEs). For those eddies that appear in the CSR, the surrounding areas of Dongsha Islands(DS) and southwest of Taiwan(SWT) are considered as the primary sources, where eddies generated contribute more than 60% of the total. According to the spatial distribution of eddy relative vorticity, eddies are weakening as propagating westward. Although both CEs and ACEs roughly propagate along the slope isobaths, there are discrepancies between CEs and ACEs. The ACEs move slightly faster in the zonal direction, while the CEs tend to cross the isobaths with large bottom depth change. The ACEs generally move further into the basin areas after leaving the CSR while CEs remain around the CSR. The eddy propagation on the continental slope is likely to be associated with mean flow at a certain degree because the eddy trajectories have notable seasonal signals that are consistent with the seasonal cycle of geostrophic current. 16Nitrate in the Changjiang diluted water:an isotopic evaluation on sources and reaction pathways显示文摘A cruise covering two transects in the Changjiang(Yangtze)estuary in July 2017 was conducted,aiming to explore the sources for riverine NOˉ3 and identify reactions involved in the NO_(3)^(-)transformations along the transport of the Changjiang diluted water(CDW).In the river water,NO_(3)^(-)was fundamentally contributed by chemical fertilizer leakage in the watershed according to isotope signals.Sewage discharge may also be significant on riverine NO_(3)^(-)inventory,while the isotope signal was masked by nitrification.Together with the transport of the CDW,NO_(3)^(-)production was observed in waters with low salinities(<20)and high turbidities.Nitrification resulted from the mineralization of riverine organic nitrogen;therefore,the high turbidity was linked to active production.In the outer plume,coupled with stratification,a significant decrease in NO_(3)^(-)concentration was observed in the surface water.In parallel,enrichment inδ^(15)N-NO_(3)^(-)andδ^(18)O-NO_(3)^(-)was found,indicating biological consumption by phytoplankton.The difference in the stratification intensity between two transects led to variations in NO_(3)^(-)concentrations and isotope compositions.In the benthic water,denitrification(sediment-water interface)and nitrification(bottom water)coexisted.Furthermore,accumulations of NH4+and dissolved organic nitrogen in the bottom water were observed,indicating that nitrification was constrained by oxidant(mainly dissolved oxygen)supplies.Shan JIANG Jie JIN Guosen ZHANG Yan CHANG Zhaoru ZHANG Meng ZHOU Xiaolu WANG Jing ZHANG Ying WU 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,3:0
17Organoid co-culture models of the tumor microenvironment promote precision medicine显示文摘In recent years,the three-dimensional(3D)culture system has emerged as a promising preclinical model for tumor research owing to its ability to replicate the tissue structure and molecular characteristics of solid tumors in vivo.This system offers several advantages,including high throughput,efficiency,and retention of tumor heterogeneity.Traditional Matrigel-submerged organoid cultures primarily support the long-term proliferation of epithelial cells.One solution for the exploration of the tumor microenvironment is a reconstitution approach involving the introduction of exogenous cell types,either in dual,triple or even multiple combinations.Another solution is a holistic approach including patient-derived tumor fragments,air-liquid interface,suspension 3D culture,and microfluidic tumor-on-chip models.Organoid co-culture models have also gained popularity for studying the tumor microenvironment,evaluating tumor immunotherapy,identifying predictive biomarkers,screening for effective drugs,and modeling infections.By leveraging these 3D culture systems,it is hoped to advance the clinical application of therapeutic approaches and improve patient outcomes.Zhaoru Gu Quanyou Wu Bingqing Shang Kaitai Zhang Wen Zhang 2024Cancer Innovation2024,3,1:0

19Preparation and properties of a low-cost porous ceramic support from low-grade palygorskite clay and silicon-carbide with vanadium pentoxide additives显示文摘Alow-cost porous ceramic support was prepared from low-grade palygorskite clay(LPGS) and silicon carbide(SiC)with vanadium pentoxide(V_(2) O_(5)) additives by a dry-press forming method and sintering.The effects of SiC-LPGS ratio,pressing pressure,carbon powder pore-forming agent and V_(2) O_(5) sintering additives on the microstructure and performance of the supports were investigated.The addition of an appropriate amount of SiC to the LPGS can prevent excessive shrinkage of the support during sintering,and increase the mechanical strength and open porosity of the supports.The presence of SiC(34.4%) led to increases in the open porosity and mechanical strength of 40.43% ± 0.21% and(17.76 ± 0.51) MPa,respectively,after sintering at 700℃ for 3 h.Because of its low melting point,V_(2) O_(5) can melt to liquid during sintering,which increases the mechanical strength of the supports and retains the porosity.Certainly,this can also encourage efficient use of the LPGS and avoid wasting resources.Zhaoru Fan Shouyong Zhou Ailian Xue Meisheng Li Yan Zhang Yijiang Zhao Weihong Xing 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,1:0
