1Biogenic production of DMSP and its degradation to DMS—their roles in the global sulfur cycle显示文摘Dimethyl sulfide(DMS) is the most abundant form of volatile sulfur in Earth’s oceans, and is mainly produced by the enzymatic clevage of dimethylsulfoniopropionate(DMSP). DMS and DMSP play important roles in driving the global sulfur cycle and may affect climate. DMSP is proposed to serve as an osmolyte, a grazing deterrent, a signaling molecule, an antioxidant, a cryoprotectant and/or as a sink for excess sulfur. It was long believed that only marine eukaryotes such as phytoplankton produce DMSP. However, we recently discovered that marine heterotrophic bacteria can also produce DMSP, making them a potentially important source of DMSP. At present, one prokaryotic and two eukaryotic DMSP synthesis enzymes have been identified.Marine heterotrophic bacteria are likely the major degraders of DMSP, using two known pathways: demethylation and cleavage.Many phytoplankton and some fungi can also cleave DMSP. So far seven different prokaryotic and one eukaryotic DMSP lyases have been identified. 2Role of C5a-C5aR axis in the development of atherosclerosis显示文摘Complement component 5a(C5a)is a 74 amino acid glycoprotein and an important proinflammatory mediator that is cleaved enzymatically from its precursor,C5,on activation of the complement cascade.C5a is quickly metabolised by carboxypeptidases,forming the less-potent C5a desArg.C5a and C5a desArg interact with their receptors(C5aR and C5L2),which results in a number of effects which are essential to the immune response.C5a has a broad range of biological effects throughout the human body because the widespread expression of C5a receptors throughout the human organs enables C5a and C5a desArg to elicit a broad range of biological effects.Recently,accumulating evidence in humans and experimental animal models shows that the C5a-C5aR axis is involved in the development of atherosclerosis lesions.The absence or blockade of C5aRs greatly reduces the formation of atherosclerotic lesions or wire-injury-induced neointima formation in atherosclerosis-prone mice.Serum C5a level was related to the major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with advanced atherosclerosis and those with drug-eluting stent implantation.Thus,the C5a-C5aR axis may be a significant pathogenic driver of arteriosclerotic vascular disease,making C5a-C5aR inhibition an attractive therapeutic strategy.AN GuiPeng REN GuoRui AN FengShuang ZHANG Cheng 2014Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,8:6
3Seasonal variations of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dim-ethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) in the sea-surface microlayer and subsurface water of Jiaozhou Bay and its adjacent area显示文摘The distributions of DMS and its precursor dimethylsulfoniopropionate, in both dissolved (DMSPd) and particulate fractions (DMSPp) were determined in the sea-surface microlayer and correspond-ing subsurface water of the Jiaozhou Bay, China and its adjacent area in May and August 2006. The concentrations of all these components showed a clear seasonal variation, with higher concen-trations occurring in summer. This can be mainly attributed to the higher phytoplankton biomass observed in summer. Simultaneously, the enrichment extents of DMSPd and DMSPp in the mi-crolayer also exhibited seasonal changes, with higher values in spring and lower ones in summer. Higher water temperature and stronger radiant intensity in summer can enhance their solubility and photochemical reaction in the microlayer water, reducing their enrichment factors (the ratio of concentration in the microlayer to that in the corresponding subsurface water). A statistically significant relationship was found between the microlayer and subsurface water concentrations of DMS, DMSP and chlorophyll a, demonstrating that the biogenic materials in the microlayer come primarily from the underlying water. Moreover, our data show that the concentrations of DMSPp and DMS were significantly correlated with the levels of chlorophyll a, indicating that phytoplank-ton biomass might play an important role in controlling the distributions of biogenic sulfurs in the study area. The ratios of DMS/chlorophyll a and DMSPp/chlorophyll a varied little from spring to summer, suggesting that there was no obvious change in the proportion of DMSP producers in the phytoplankton community. 4Autumn Photoproduction of Carbon Monoxide in Jiaozhou Bay, China显示文摘Carbon monoxide(CO) plays a significant role in global warming and atmospheric chemistry. Global oceans are net natural sources of atmospheric CO. CO at surface ocean is primarily produced from the photochemical degradation of chromophoric dissolved organic matter(CDOM). In this study, the effects of photobleaching, temperature and the origin(terrestrial or marine) of CDOM on the apparent quantum yields(AQY) of CO were studied for seawater samples collected from Jiaozhou Bay. Our results demonstrat that photobleaching, temperature and the origin of CDOM strongly affected the efficiency of CO photoproduction. The concentration, absorbance and fluorescence of CDOM exponentially decreased with increasing light dose. Terrestrial riverine organic matter could be more prone to photodegradation than the marine algae-derived one. The relationships between CO AQY and the dissolved organic carbon-specific absorption coefficient at 254 nm for the photobleaching study were nonlinear, whereas those of the original samples were strongly linear. This suggests that: 1) terrestrial riverine CDOM was more efficient than marine algae-derived CDOM for CO photoproduction; 2) aromatic and olefinic moieties of the CDOM pool were affected more strongly by degradation processes than by aliphatic ones. Water temperature and the origin of CDOM strongly affected the efficiency of CO photoproduction. The photoproduction rate of CO in autumn was estimated to be 31.98 μmol m-2 d-1 and the total DOC photomineralization was equivalent to 3.25%- 6.35% of primary production in Jiaozhou Bay. 6Concentration and Characterization of Colored Dissolved Organic Matter in the Surface Microlayer and Subsurface Water of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea显示文摘The distribution and chemical properties of colored dissolved organic matter(CDOM) in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea during December 2011-January 2012 were investigated. The input of freshwater and biological activities had an evident influence on the CDOM levels(characterized by the light absorption coefficient at the wavelength of 355 nm a_(355)) in the study area. The spatial distribution of CDOM levels displayed a gradually decreasing trend from the coastal waters(0.37 m^(-1)) to the open sea(0.18 m^(-1)). The spectral slope ratio(the slope ratio S_R defined as S_(275-295):S_(350-400)) during the cruise was correlated with salinity, and exhibited a large variation from inshore(average of 2.515) to offshore sites(average of 5.327) compared with the distribution of a_(355). The values of S_R were related to CDOM molecular weight(MW). The a_(355), S_R, and chlorophyll a in 37 samples collected from the surface microlayer were significantly correlated with those in the corresponding subsurface water samples, implying a strong exchange action between the microlayer and bulk water. 7Photochemical oxidation of dimethylsulfide in seawater显示文摘Dimethylsulfide(DMS) is generally thought to be lost from the surface oceans by evasion into the atmosphere as well as consumption by microbe.However,photochemical process might be important in the removal of DMS in the oceanic photic zone.A kinetic investigation into the photochemical oxidation of DMS in seawater was performed.The photo-oxidation rates of DMS were influenced by various factors including the medium,dissolved oxygen,photosensitizers,and heavy metal ions.The photo-oxidation rates of DMS were higher in seawater than in distilled water,presumably due to the effect of salinity existing in seawater.Three usual photosensitizers(humic acid,fulvic acid and anthroquinone),especially in the presence of oxygen,were able to enhance the photo-oxidation rate of DMS,with the fastest rate observed with anthroquinone.Photo-oxidation of DMS followed first order reaction kinetics with the rate constant ranging from 2.5×10-5 to 34.3×10-5 s-1.Quantitative analysis showed that approximately 32% of the photochemically removed DMS was converted to dimethylsulfoxide.One of the important findings was that the presence of Hg2+ could markedly accelerate the photo-oxidation rate of DMS in seawater.The mechanism of mercuric catalysis for DMS photolysis was suggested according to the way of CTTM(charge transfer to metal) of DMS-Hg2+ complex.YANG Guipeng LI Chengxuan QI Jialin HU Lige HOU Haijun 2007Acta Oceanologica Sinica2007,26,5:4

9Experimental studies on dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) production by four marine microalgae显示文摘The production of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) by marine microalgae was investigated to elucidate more on the role of marine phytoplankton in ocean-atmosphere interactions in the global biogeochemical sulfur cycle.Axenic laboratory cultures of four marine microalgae–Isochrysis galbana 8701,Pavlova viridis,Platymonas sp.and Chlorella were tested for DMSP production and conversion into DMS.Among these four microalgae,Isochrysis galbana 8701 and Pavlova viridis are two species of Haptophyta,while Chlorella and Platymonas sp.belong to Chlorophyta.The results demonstrate that the four algae can produce various amounts of DMS(P),and their DMS(P) production was species specific.With similar cell size,more DMS was released by Haptophyta than that by Chlorophyta.DMS and dissolved DMSP (DMSPd) concentrations in algal cultures varied significantly during their life cycles.The highest release of DMS appeared in the senescent period for all the four algae.Variations in DMSP concentrations were in strong compliance with variations in algal cell densities during the growing period.A highly significant correlation was observed between the DMS and DMSPd concentrations in algal cultures,and there was a time lag for the variation trend of the DMS concentrations as compared with that of the DMSPd.The consistency of variation patterns of DMS and DMSPd implies that the DMSPd produced by phytoplankton cells has a marked effect on the production of DMS.In the present study,the authors’ results specify the significant contribution of the marine phytoplankton to DMS(P) production and the importance of biological control of DMS concentrations in oceanic water.LI Chengxuan YANG Guipeng PAN Jinfen ZHANG Honghai 2010Acta Oceanologica Sinica2010,29,4:4
10Study on the analysis and distribution of dimethylsulfoxide in the Jiaozhou Bay显示文摘A chemoreduction-purge-and-trap gas chromatographic method has been developed for the deter-mination of trace dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) in seawater. In the analysis procedure, DMSO was first reduced to dimethylsufide (DMS) by sodium borohydride and then the produced DMS was analyzed using the purge-and-trap technique coupled with gas chromatographic separation and flame photometric detection. Under the optimum conditions, 97% DMSO was reduced in the standard solution samples with a standard deviation of 5% (n=5). The detection limit of DMSO was 2.7 pmol of sulfur, corresponding to a concentration of 0.75 nmol/L for a 40 ml sample. This method was applied to determine the dissolved DMSO (DMSOd) and particulate DMSO (DMSOp) con- centrations in the surface seawater of the Jiaozhou Bay, and the results showed that the DMSOd and DMSOp concentrations varied from 16.8 to 921.1 nmol/L (mean:165.2 nmol/L) and from 8.0 to 162.4 nmol/L (mean: 57.7 nmol/L), respectively. The high concentrations of DMSOp were generally found in productive regions. Consequently, a significant correlation was found between the concentrations of DMSOp and chlorophyll a, suggesting that phytoplankton biomass might play an important role in controlling the distribution of DMSOp in the bay. 11Temporal variations of dimethylsulfide and dimethylsulfoniopropionate in the southern Yellow Sea in spring and autumn显示文摘Temporal distributions of dimethylsulfide(DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate(DMSP) were studied in the southern Yellow Sea(SYS) during April and September 2010. The mean concentrations(range) of DMS, dissolved and particulate DMSP(DMSPd and DMSPp) in the surface waters in spring are 1.69(0.48–4.92), 3.18(0.68–6.75)and 15.81(2.82–52.33) nmol/L, respectively, and those in autumn are 2.80(1.33–5.10), 5.45(2.19–11.30) and 30.63(6.24–137.87) nmol/L. On the whole, the distributions of DMS and DMSP in spring are completely different from those in autumn. In the central part of the SYS, the concentrations of DMS and DMSP in spring are obviously higher than those in autumn, but the opposite situation is found on the south of 34°N, which can be attributed to the differences in nutrients and phytoplankton biomass and composition between spring and autumn. Besides,the seasonal variations of water column stability and the Changjiang diluted water also have significant impact on the distributions of DMS and DMSP in spring and autumn on the south of 34°N. DMS and DMSPp concentrations coincide well with chlorophyll a(Chl a) levels in the spring cruise, suggesting that phytoplankton biomass may play an important role in controlling the distributions of DMS and DMSPp in the study area. Annual DMS emission rates range from 0.015 to 0.033 Tg/a(calculated by S), respectively, using the equations of Liss and Merlivat(1986) and Wanninkhof(1992). 12Distributions and sea-to-air fluxes of volatile halocarbons in the southern Yellow Sea and the East China Sea显示文摘Distributions and sea-to-air fluxes of five kinds of volatile halocarbons(VHCs) were studied in the southern Yellow Sea(SYS) and the East China Sea(ECS) in November 2007. The results showed that the concentrations of 1,1,1-trichloroethane(C2H3Cl3), 1,1-dichloroethene(C2H2Cl2), 1,1,2-trichloroethene(C2HCl3), trichloromethane(CHCl3) and tetrachloromethane(CCl4) in the surface water were 0.31–4.81, 2.75–21.3, 1.21–17.1, 5.02–233 and 0.045–4.47 pmol/L, respectively, with the average values of 1.89, 12.20, 6.93, 60.90 and 0.33 pmol/L. On the whole, the horizontal distributions of C2H3Cl3, C2H2Cl2 and CCl4 were affected mainly by anthropogenic activities, while C2HCl3 and CHCl3 were influenced by biological factors as well as anthropogenic activities. In the study area, the concentrations of VHCs(except C2HCl3) exhibited a decreasing trend from inshore to offshore sites, with the higher values occurring in the coastal waters. The sea-to-air fluxes of C2H3Cl3, C2HCl3, CHCl3 and CCl4 were calculated to be-56.00–(-5.68),-7.31–123.42, 148.00–1 309.31 and-83.32–(-1.53) nmol/(m2·d), respectively, with the average values of-6.77, 17.14, 183.38 and-21.27 nmol/(m2·d). 13Geochemical characteristics of hadal sediment in the northern Yap Trench显示文摘Two sediment cores were retrieved in the hadal zone of the Yap Trench,and their concentrations of six major elements Mg,Al,Ca,Ti,Mn and Fe and nine trace elements Sr,Ba,Pb,V,Cr,Co,Ni,Cu and Zn were determined in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES).According to the vertical distribution profiles of the 15 elements,the correlation of their concentrations,the ratios of Ni/Co,V/Cr,Fe/Al,and Ti/Al,and morphological characteristics of the sediment samples,the implications of the depositional environment and the sediment provenance were analyzed.The results show that the ratio of Ni/Co in all depths of the two sediment cores were below 5,and the ratio of V/Cr were lower than 2,indicating that the depositional environment of the hadal zone in the trench was oxidative and might have inflow of the Antarctic bottom oxygen-rich water.The sediment samples on the eastern side of the trench were siliceous mud mainly composed of diatoms,radiolarian,and sponge needles from surface to deep layer.The vertical profile of the elements,the concentration of TOC and the fossil record indicated that the sediment sample from station Dive113 was well mixed from surface to bottom layer.Based on the correlation of concentrations of the elements,the morphological characteristics of the sediment,and the ratios of Fe/Al and Ti/Al,we inferred that the sediment in the hadal zone of the trench had terrestrial,volcanic,biological,and authigenic sources.Major source of the sediment in the eastern side of the trench were terrestrial;whereas the sediment in the western side of the trench received more volcaniclastic input.HUANG Yuhuan SUN Chengjun YANG Guipeng YUE Xin’an JIANG Fenghua CAO Wei YIN Xiaofei GUO Chaonan NIU Jiaohong DING Haibing 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,3:3
14Burial fluxes and source apportionment of carbon in culture areas of Sanggou Bay over the past 200 years显示文摘In this study,we assessed the burial fluxes and source appointment of different forms of carbon in core sediments collected from culture areas in the Sanggou Bay,and preliminarily analyzed the reasons for the greater proportion of inorganic carbon burial fluxes(BFTIC).The average content of total carbon(TC) in the Sanggou Bay was 2.14%.Total organic carbon(TOC) accounted for a small proportion in TC,more than 65% of which derived from terrigenous organic carbon(Ct),and while the proportion of marine-derived organic carbon(Ca) increased significantly since the beginning of large-scale aquaculture.Total inorganic carbon(TIC) accounted for 60%–75%of TC,an average of which was 60%,with a maximum up to 90% during flourishing periods(1880–1948) of small natural shellfish derived from seashells inorganic carbon(Shell-IC).The TC burial fluxes ranged from 31 g/(m2·a)to 895 g/(m2·a) with an average of 227 g/(m2·a),which was dominated by TIC(about 70%).Shell-IC was the main source of TIC and even TC.As the main food of natural shellfish,biogenic silica(BSi) negatively correlated with BFTIC through affecting shellfish breeding.BFTIC of Sta.S1,influenced greatly by the Yellow Sea Coastal Current,had a certain response to Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO) in some specific periods.LIU Sai HUANG Jiansheng YANG Qian YANG Shu YANG Guipeng SUN Yao 2015Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,10:2
15Distribution characteristics of lipids in hadal sediment in the Yap Trench显示文摘In this study,cored sediment samples collected by the Jiaolong Submersible at 6779 m depth from the hadal zone of the Yap Trench in May 2016 were sliced in 1-cm interval from top to bottom,and lipids in each sediment layer were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed.The vertical distribution profiles of the lipids in the sediment sample,their main existing forms,and their possible sources were investigated.The results show that the concentration of lipid in the surface sediment was the highest with the carbon number from 12 to 27,dominated by medium and short-chain lipids.The total concentration of fatty acids in surface sediment was much higher than those in the offshore and deep-sea areas,being up to 325.77μg/g due to the funnel effect caused by the“V”terrain of the trench.Fatty acid 18:0 was the most abundant lipids in the sediment sample.Abnormal high concentrations of fatty acid 18:1ω7 and alkanes indicated the existence of hydrothermal fluids in the study area.In addition,saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids existed mainly in free form,and polyunsaturated fatty acids existed mainly in bound form.Most of the alkanes were in bound form,and their major source was autochthounous input.The carbon number of alcohols in the sediment sample ranged from 12 to 20,mainly existed in bound form.The source of fatty acids was mainly autochthonous input,and the neutral lipids had both marine and terrestrial origin.This is the first study of lipids in hadal sediment of the Yap Trench.The results will promote deeper understanding of organic carbon cycle in marine environment.YAN Yixin SUN Chengjun HUANG Yuhuan CAO Wei JIANG Fenghua YANG Guipeng DING Haibing 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,3:2
16High and ultra-stable energy storage from all-carbon sodium-ion capacitor with 3D framework carbon as cathode and carbon nanosheet as anode显示文摘Sodium-ion capacitors(SICs)are extremely promising due to the combined merits of high energy-power characteristics and considerable price advantage.However,it is still difficult to achieve high energypower outputs and cycle stability in a typical configuration of the metal-based battery-type anode and activated carbon capacitor-type cathode due to the kinetic mismatching.In this work,a carbon nanosheet(PSCS-600)with large interlayer spacing of 0.41 nm derived from the bio-waste pine cone shell was prepared.Besides,the covalent triazine framework derived carbon(OPDN-CTF-A)was obtained through ionothermal synthesis strategy,exhibiting beneficial hierarchical pores(0.5-6 nm)and high heteroatoms(5.6 at%N,6.6 at%O).On this basis,the all-carbon SICs were fabricated by the integration of PSCS-600 anode and OPDN-CTF-A cathode.The device delivered high energy density 111 Wh kg^(-1),high power output of 14,200 W kg^(-1) and ultra-stable cycling life(~90.7%capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles).This work provides new ideas in fabricating carbon-carbon architectural SICs with high energy storage for practical application.Fangyuan Hu Siyang Liu Shengming Li Cheng Liu Guipeng Yu Ce Song Wenlong Shao Tianpeng Zhang Xigao Jian 2021Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,4:2
17Photodegradation of Methylene Blue in Natural Seawater显示文摘This paper reports the photochemical degradation of Methylene Blue(MB)in natural seawater(NSW).The photode-gradation reaction conformed to the first-order reaction kinetics with the rate constant 0.0158 min-1.MB was photochemically de-gradated faster under high-pressure mercury lamp(HPML)than under sunlight.When MB was in lower concentrations,salinitycould inhibit the photoreaction whereas MB in higher concentration,salinity could accelerate the photoreaction.Humid acid couldalso inhibit the photoreactions.Toxicity tests with marine phytoplankton Skeletonema costatum(Sk)and Heterosigma akashiwo Hada(Ha)showed decreased acute toxicity after photodegradation.SUN Luni YANG Guipeng CAO Xiaoyan ZHOU Limin 2010Journal of Ocean University of China2010,9,2:2
18Identification of two aberrant transcripts derived from a hybridoma with amplification of functional immunoglobulin variable genes显示文摘Murine monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)are widely used but have limitations if administered in humans.The use of chimeric or humanized mAbs can reduce immunogenicity.The first step in producing such mAbs is to clone murine variable genes from a hybridoma,but it is possible to amplify both functional and aberrant variable genes,as they coexist in the hybridoma.During the development of a murine–human chimeric antibody,we have cloned from a hybridoma the functional heavy chain variable region(VH)and light chain variable region(VL)genes of a mAb that blocks the binding of anthrax lethal factor to protective antigen.In this study,we report the detection of two aberrant transcripts from a hybridoma produced using myeloma cell line OUR-1,the development of a method to distinguish between the functional and abundant aberrant VL transcripts,and the origins of these aberrant genes.The aberrant VL gene is derived from OUR-1 cells,while the aberrant VH gene might derive from antibody repertoires in B cells or from gene rearrangement in the hybridoma cells.The aberrant VH and VL genes in this study may facilitate discrimination between the functional and aberrant variable genes from hybridoma cells.Guipeng Ding Ximin Chen Jin Zhu Brian Cao 2010Cellular & Molecular Immunology2010,7,5:2
19Design of porous organic polymer catalysts for transformation of carbon dioxide显示文摘The transformation of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))into fuels and chemicals is an interesting topic,which has been paid much attention in recent years.The materials with specific functionalities are highly required for CO_(2)capture and conversion,which have been widely investigated.As an emerging material platform,porous organic polymers(POPs)have attracted considerable scientific interest due to their distinctive properties such as tailorable func-tionalization,large surface areas,adjustable porosity,versatile polymerizations,good physicochemical and thermal stability.Our group focuses on designing and synthesizing POPs via introducing CO_(2)-philic groups and organic ligands into the skeletons of the polymers and immobilizing metal active species onto their surface,and a series of POPs with functional groups,such as,azo,Tr€oger's base,fluorine,phenolic–OH,have been prepared for CO_(2)transformation.In this review article,we mainly introduce our recent work on design of POPs-based catalysts for CO_(2)transformation,which include POPs-based catalysts for cycloaddition reactions of epoxides and prop-argylic alcohols with CO_(2),for reductive transformation of CO_(2)with H 2,for photocatalytic/electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2).In addition,the perspectives of the POP-based catalysts for CO_(2)transformation will be discussed as well.Guipeng Ji Yanfei Zhao Zhimin Liu 2022Green Chemical Engineering2022,3,2:1
