| 1 | Biochar: A review of its impact on pesticide behavior in soil environments and its potential applications显示文摘Biochar is produced from the pyrolysis of carbon-rich plant- and animal-residues under low oxygen and high temperature conditions and has been increasingly used for its positive role in soil compartmentalization through activities such as carbon sequestration and improving soil quality. Biochar is also considered a unique adsorbent due to its high specific surface area and highly carbonaceous nature. Therefore, soil amendments with small amounts of biochar could result in higher adsorption and, consequently, decrease the bioavailability of contaminants to microbial communities, plants, earthworms, and other organisms in the soil. However, the mechanisms affecting the environmental fate and behavior of organic contaminants, especially pesticides in biochar-amended soil, are not well understood. The purpose of this work is to review the role of biochar in primary processes, such as adsorption–desorption and leaching of pesticides. Biochar has demonstrable effects on the fate and effects of pesticides and has been shown to affect the degradation and bioavailability of pesticides for living organisms. | 2 | Sisyphus effects in hydrogen electrochemistry on metal silicides enabled by silicene subunit edge显示文摘Nonmetal elements strictly govern the electrochemical performance of molybdenum compounds.Yet,the exact role played by nonmetals during electrocatalysis remains largely obscure.With intermetallic MoSi_2comprising silicene subunits,we present an unprecedented hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)behavior in aqueous alkaline solution.Under continuous operation,the HER activity of MoSi_2shows a more than one order of magnitude improvement in current density from 1.1 to 21.5 mA cm^(à2)at 0.4 V overpotential.Meanwhile,this activation behavior is highly reversible,such that voltage withdrawal leads to catalyst inactivation but another operation causes reactivation.Thus,the system shows dynamics strikingly analogous to the legendary Sisyphus’labor,which drops and recovers in a stepwise manner repeatedly,but never succeeds in reaching the top of the mountain.Isomorphic WSi_2behaves almost the same as MoSi_2,whereas other metal silicides with silicyne subunits,including CrSi_2and TaSi_2,do not exhibit any anomalous behavior.A thin amorphous shell of MoSi_2is observed after reaction,within which the Si remains partially oxidized while the oxidation state of Mo is basically unchanged.First-principles calculations further reveal that the adsorption of hydroxide ions on silicene subunit edges and the subsequent Si vacancy formation in MoSi_2jointly lead to the anomalous HER kinetics of the adjacent Mo active centers.This work demonstrates that the role of nonmetal varies dramatically with the electronic and crystallographic structures of silicides and that silicene structural subunit may serve as a promoter for boosting HER in alkaline media. | Zechao Zhuang Yong Li Jiazhao Huang Zilan Li Kangning Zhao Yunlong Zhao Lin Xu Liang Zhou Lyudmila V. | 3 | Inhibition of Rac1-dependent forgetting alleviates memory deficits in animal models of Alzheimer's disease显示文摘Accelerated forgetting has been identified as a feature of Alzheimer's disease(AD),but the therapeutic efficacy of the manipulation of biological mechanisms of forgetting has not been assessed in AD animal models.Ras-re-lated C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1(Rac1),a small GTPase,has been shown to regulate active forgetting in Drosophila and mice?Here,we showed that Rac1 activity is aberrantly elevated in the hippocampal tissues of AD patients and AD animal models.Moreover,amyloid-beta 42 could induce Rac1 activation in cultured cells.The elevation of Rac1 activity not only accelerated 6-hour spatial memory decay in 3-month-old APP/PS1 mice,but also significantly contributed to severe memory loss in aged APP/PS1 mice.A similar age-dependent Rac1 activity-based memory loss was also observed in an AD fly model.Moreover,inhibition of Rac1 activity could ameliorate cognitive defects and synaptic plasticity in AD animal models.Finally,two novel compounds,identified through behavioral screening of a randomly selected pool of brain permeable small molecules for their positive effect in rescuing memory loss in both fly and mouse models,were found to be capable of inhibiting Rac1 activity.Thus,multiple lines of evidence corroborate in supporting the idea that inhibition of Rac1 activity is effective for treating AD-related memory loss. | Wenjuan Wu Shuwen Du Wei Shi Yunlong Liu Ying Hu Zuolei Xie Xinsheng Yao Zhenyu Liu Weiwei Ma Lin Xu Chao Ma Yi Zhong | 2019 | Protein & Cell2019,10,10: | 10 |

| 6 | Effects of aging process on adsorption–desorption and bioavailability of fomesafen in an agricultural soil amended with rice hull biochar显示文摘Biochar has been introduced as an acceptable soil amendment due to its environmental benefits such as sequestering soil contaminants. However, the aging process in biochar amended soil probably decreases the adsorption capacity of biochar through changing its physico-chemical properties. Adsorption, leaching and bioavailability of fomesafen to corn in a Chinese soil amended by rice hull biochar after 0, 30, 90 and 180 days were investigated.Results showed that the addition of 0.5%–2% fresh biochar significantly increases the adsorption of fomesafen 4–26 times compare to unamended soil due to higher SSA of biochar. Biochar amendment also decreases fomesafen concentration in soil pore water by5%–23% resulting lower risk of the herbicide for cultivated plants. However, the aging process decreased the adsorption capacity of biochar since the adsorption coefficient values which was 1.9–12.4 in 0.5%–2% fresh biochar amended soil, declined to 1.36–4.16, 1.13–2.78 and 0.95–2.31 in 1, 3 and 6-month aged treatments, respectively. Consequently, higher desorption, leaching and bioavailable fraction of fomesafen belonged to 6-month aged treatment. | 8 | Flow cytometry investigation of picoplankton across latitudes and along the circum Antarctic Ocean显示文摘Using a flow cytometer (FCM) onboard the R/V Xuelong during the 24th Chinese Antarctic cruise, picoplankton community structure and biomass in the surface water were examined along the latitude and around the Antarctic Ocean. Salinity and temperature were automatically recorded and total Chl a was determined. Along the cruise, the abundance of Synechococcus, Prochlorococcus, pico-eukaryotes and heterotrophic bacteria ranged in 0.001-1.855 × 10 8 ind./L, 0.000-2.778 × 10 8 ind./L, 0.002-1.060 × 10 8 ind./L and 0.132-27.073 × 10 8 ind./L, respectively. Major oceanic distribution of Synechococcus and Prochlorococcus appeared between latitudes 30 N and 30 S. Prochlorococcus was mainly influenced by water temperature, water mass combination and freshwater inflow. Meanwhile, Synechococcus distribution was significantly associated with landing freshwater inflow. Pico-eukaryotes and heterotrophic bacteria were distributed all over the oceans, but with a relatively low abundance in the high latitudes of the Antarctic Ocean. | 20 | Reservoir Characteristics of Fine-grained Sedimentary Rocks in Saline Lakes in the Cenozoic Upper Ganchaigou Formation,Southwestern Qaidam Basin,NW China显示文摘Cenozoic fine-grained sedimentary rocks in the southwestern Qaidam Basin,as typical salinized lacustrine sediments,are significantly different from those in other freshwater lakes under the impact of the high salinity in the lake.Many fine-grained sedimentary rock samples were selected from the lower member of Neogene(N_(1))in the Gaskule Oilfield,Qaidam Basin,northwest China,with the aim to analyze and test their petrology,pore structure,and organic geochemical characteristics and determine its genesis and geological significance.Based on previous results,a new genesis of mixed sedimentary rocks is proposed.The Cenozoic lacustrine fine-grained sedimentary rocks in SW Qaidam Basin belong to mixed sedimentary rocks,which can be divided into three types,including carbonate and terrigenous clastic-bearing mudstone,carbonate-bearing to terrigenous clastic mixed sedimentary rocks,and carbonate-terrigenous clastic mixed sedimentary rocks.The geneses of mixing are quite different from that of mixed marine rocks.According to the sedimentary characteristics of the salinized lakes,three new geneses of mixed deposits are proposed:syn-sedimentary mixing,varve interbedded mixing,and biogenic mixing.The reservoir spaces of the Cenozoic lacustrine fine-grained sedimentary rocks in SW Qaidam Basin include residual intergranular pores,intercrystalline pores,microfractures,and minor dissolved pores.The reservoirs have super-low porosity and ultra-low permeability,with a porosity of 1.82%-21.04%,averaging 7.71%,and permeability of(0.0028-254.86)×10^(−3)μm^(2),averaging 2.82×10^(−3)μm^(2).The test results of total organic carbon(TOC)content show that the highest content of organic carbon reached 1.41%,and those of vitrinite reflectance show that Ro ranges from 0.525%-0.824%,with an average of 0.806%.The organic geochemical characteristics show that the fine-grained mixed sedimentary rocks of SW Qaidam Basin have the potential for self-generation and self-storage.As an unconventional reservoir,it has potential industrial value.This is the first study of fine-grained sedimentary rocks in the Qaidam Basin,which offers certain theoretical and practical values. | SHENG Jun LIU Jincheng LI Yunlong ZOU Haiyan LONG Anlin WANG Lin LI Jiyong QI Qingshan YANG Xiaojing LI Yanan | 2022 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2022,96,3: | 1 |
