2Effectiveness of Jinying capsule on pelvic inflammatory disease in patients with symptom pattern of damp and heat accumulation: a double-blinded, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness and safety of Jinying capsule on pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) in patients with symptoms identified as the pattern of damp and heat accumulation in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS: We conducted a double-blinded, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial which included 155 patients diagnosed with PID and identified as symptom pattern of damp and heat accumulation. They were randomly divided into experimental group(n = 78) and control group(n = 77) according to a random number table. The treatment lasted for a period of 28 d. The experimental group was given Jinying capsules and oral levofloxacin plus oral metronidazole for first 7 d.They continued with Jinying capsules and levofloxacin placebo and metronidazole placebo for another 7 d. For the remaining 14 d, they continued with Jinying capsules only. Whereas, the control group was treated with oral levofloxacin and metronidazole and Jinying capsule placebo for the first 14 d in the same way as the experimental group and then continued with Jinying capsule placebo only for the remaining 14 d. The clinical efficacy was assessed using McCormack scale, TCM symptom pattern scores, physicochemical indexes including white blood cell and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reaction protein, smear of vaginal discharge,and pelvic ultrasound.RESULTS: Comparing McCormack scale between both groups after treatment, the difference in curative effect between both groups was significant (P = 0.0269). The cure rate of the experimental group and control group is 76.32% and 59.46% respectively at week 4. Comparing TCM symptom pattern scores between both groups before and after treatment, the differences in total effective rate were both significant(P < 0.05). The curative effect rate of experimental group is 2.63% and 13.70% of the control group at week 1(P = 0.0131), and73.33% of the experimental group and 56.94% of the control group at week 4(P = 0.0369). No significant differences were found between the two groups on the Physicochemical indexes(all P >0.05). 4Immunity-and-matrix-regulatory cells derived from human embryonic stem cells safely and effectively treat mouse lung injury and fibrosis显示文摘Lung injury and fibrosis represent the most significant outcomes of severe and acute lung disorders,including COVID-19.However,there are still no effective drugs to treat lung injury and fibrosis.In this study,we report the generation of clinical-grade human embryonic stem cells(hESCs)-derived immunity-and matrix-regulatory cells(IMRCs)produced under good manufacturing practice requirements,that can treat lung injury and fibrosis in vivo.We generate IMRCs by sequentially differentiating hESCs with serum-free reagents.IMRCs possess a unique gene expression profile distinct from that of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(UCMSCs),such as higher expression levels of proliferative,immunomodulatory and anti-fibrotic genes.Moreover,intravenous delivery of IMRCs inhibits both pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis in mouse models of lung injury,and significantly improves the survival rate of the recipient mice in a dose-dependent manner,likely through paracrine regulatory mechanisms.IMRCs are superior to both primary UCMSCs and the FDA-approved drug pirfenidone,with an excellent efficacy and safety profile in mice and monkeys.In light of public health crises involving pneumonia,acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome,our findings suggest that IMRCs are ready for clinical trials on lung disorders.Jun Wu Dingyun Song Zhongwen Li Baojie Guo Yani Xiao Wenjing Liu Lingmin Liang Chunjing Feng Tingting Gao Yanxia Chen Ying Li Zai Wang Jianyan Wen Shengnan Yang Peipei Liu Lei Wang Yukai Wang Liang Peng Glyn Nigel Stacey Zheng Hu Guihai Feng Wei Li Yan Huo Ronghua Jin Ng Shyh-Chang Qi Zhou Liu Wang Baoyang Hu Huaping Dai Jie Hao 2020Cell Research2020,30,9:7
5Robust YAG:Ce single crystal for ultra-high efficiency laser lighting显示文摘At present,solid-state laser-driven lighting fabricated with blue laser diode(LD)and phosphor has been greatly developed in high-power lighting applications.The major obstacle is the luminescence saturation threshold of the fluorescence conversion material(YAG:Ce).In this work,we successfully prepared a series of high-quality and robust YAG:Ce single crystals.With high quantum efficiency(QE=92%),regular crystal structure and high thermal conductivity,the single-crystal has excellent ability to deal with high radiation flux and thermal accumulation generated by high power.Matching the single-crystal with the laser,the luminous efficiency up to 274 lm/W and saturation threshold of 12 W/mm^(2) were obtained.In addition,the influence of Ce doping concentration and sample processing conditions on the indicators in laser-driven white lighting was systematically studied.The results are of great significance and are believed to promote the development of solid-state laser-driven lighting.Yaqian Zhang Jianming Liu Yujie Zhang Haisheng Yang Yanxia Yu Qingyun He Xiaojuan Liang Yongfu Liu Weidong Xiang 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,5:5

7Accumulation and Elimination Kinetics of 2-Methylisoborneol in Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius)显示文摘2-methylisoborneol(2-MIB) is a common, earthysmelling compound that causes taste and odor issues in aquaculture. To quantify the distribution, absorption, and depuration of 2-MIB in crucian carp(Carassius carassius), we detected and measured 2-MIB it via microwave, headspace solid-phase microextraction(HS-SPME), and gas chromatography before and after exposing fish to two different concentrations of 2-MIB(200 ng/L and 500 ng/L). The results showed that during the exposure time, the fish absorbed 2-MIB rapidly within 4 h. After exposure to 2-MIB for 120 h, the 2-MIB in gill and liver were rapidly removed. The processes of accumulation and elimination of 2-MIB in fish were investigated using the one-compartment kinetic model. The modeling results showed that the range of the uptake rate constant(k1) was 0.49-6.91. The range of the elimination rate constant(k2) was 0.05-0.27 and uptake rates were higher than elimination rates. 10Advanced lignin-acrylamide water treatment agent by pulp and paper industrial sludge: Synthesis, properties and application显示文摘A novel flocculant LA(lignin-acrylamide polymer), which was used as aid for aluminum sulfate and polyaluminum chloride in this study, was prepared by grafting acrylamide onto lignin that deriving from pulp and papermaking sludge. Physicochemical properties of LA were measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental outcome indicated acrylamide was grafted onto the lignin backbone successfully. The efects of LA addition were evaluated on coagulation performance and floc characteristics as a function of aluminum(Al) dosage, such as floc size, growth rate, strength and recoverability. Efects of diferent dosing sequences, Al dosed first and LA dosed first, were also investigated. LA used as coagulant aid markedly enhanced the removal efciency of turbidity and dissolved organic carbon, especially at low Al dosages. The dissolved organic carbon removal efciencies of aluminum sulfate and polyaluminum chloride at the Al dosage range selected in this study were improved more than 30% and 5% by LA, respectively. LA dramatically enlarged floc size and it was in the order: Al dosed first > LA dosed first > Al. Floc strength and recoverability were also improved by LA. 11Altered serous levels of monoamine neurotransmitter metabolites in patients with refractory and non-refractory depression显示文摘The study examined plasma metabolite changes of monoamine neurotransmitters in patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and non-TRD before and after therapy. All 30 TRD and 30 non-TRD patients met the diagnostic criteria for a depressive episode in accordance with the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision. Before treatment, and at 4, 6, and 8 weeks after treatment, the plasma metabolite products of monoamine neurotransmitters in TRD group, including 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl ethylene glycol and homovanillic acid, were significantly lower than those in the non-TRD group. After two types of anti-depressive therapy with 5-serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, combined with psychotherapy, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores were significantly reduced in both groups of patients, and the serous levels of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl ethylene glycol were significantly increased. In contrast, the homovanillic acid level exhibited no significant change. 13Sex-specific responses of tree-ring growth to climate in the dioecious tree Populus cathayana显示文摘Aims Radial growth in response to climate has been reported in many trees,but the sex-specific responses of tree-ring growth associated with altitude in dioecious trees are still poorly known.This study aims to examine whether(i)there are sex-related responses of tree-ring growth to climate in dioecious trees;(ii)these responses could be changed with altitude elevation.Methods The tree-ring width and basal area increment(BAI)were measured over the past 30 years(1982-2011),and the sexual differences in relationship between BAI and time span and correlations between ring width and climatic factors were investigated in Populus cathayana trees at two altitude sites(1,450 m and 1,750 m a.s.l.)in Xiaowutai Mountain,Hebei,north China.Important Findings The BAI was increased over the past 30 years.Trees at high-altitude sites had significantly lower mean ring width and mean BAI than those trees at low-altitude sites(P<0.001).In addition,sexual dif-ferences in tree-ring growth and its response to climate were more pronounced by altitude elevation.Male trees had a significantly larger mean ring width and mean BAI than did females at high-alti-tude sites,whereas no significant sexual differences in these traits were detected at low-altitude sites.Female trees were sensitive to previous October-November temperatures at high altitude but to current February and April precipitation at low altitude(P<0.05),whereas male trees were sensitive to current June temperature at high altitude but to January precipitation at low altitude(P<0.05).Our results indicated that the responses of tree-ring growth to cli-mate are sex dependent and can be changed with altitude elevation.Kechao Huang Yongmei Liao Tingfa Dong Yanxia Yang Jundong He Huihui Huan Qibing Zhang Xiao Xu 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,5:2
14Cellulose derived biochar:Preparation,characterization and Benzo[α]pyrene adsorption capacity显示文摘Edible oil is prone to be contaminated by Benzo[a]pyrene(BaP)during production and processing.Adsorption is an important technology for the removal of BaP from edible oil,and biochar as a new type of adsorbent for the treatment BaP has received extensive attention.In this study,we prepared unmodified biochar and ZnCl_(2)-modified biochar from sesame straw cellulose(SSB and SSZ)and sesame capsule cellulose(SCB and SCZ),carried out structure characterization by Fourier Transform Infrared(FT-IR),Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)and Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM),and finally evaluated their potential effectiveness in BaP removal from sesame oil.FT-IR results revealed that SSZ and SCZ showed higher peak intensities,indicating that they could provide more active sites for adsorption.The results of XRD presented that SSZ and SCZ had a higher graphitization degree than the unmodified biochar.SEM results showed that the SSZ and SCZ had more complex pore structure,which is beneficial to adsorption.BET analysis results showed that SSZ and SCZ had a higher specific surface area of 1622.83-1797.39 m^(2)/g and a better developed porous structure(the total pore volume Vtotal was 0.9434-1.0023 cm^(3)/g)than the SSB and SCB(specific surface area was 350.55-352.59 m^(2)/g,and Vtotal was 0.1907-0.1918 cm^(3)/g),indicating that modification promoted the formation of porous structure and thus improved the adsorption capacity of biochar.Adsorption experiments confirmed once again that the BaP removal rates of SSZ and SCZ(92.67%-96.13%)were much higher than that of unmodified biochar(3.34%-4.28%),and the BaP content in the sesame oil treated by SSZ and SCZ were far below the current EU maximum levels(2μg/kg).Therefore,the modified biochar from cellulose is a promising adsorbent for BaP removal.In future studies,the influences of bichar on the nutritional quality of edible oil should be taken into consideration so as to find an ideal active carbon substitute for BaP removal in edible oil.Qiaoli Yang Yanxia Sun Wenhui Sun Zhao Qin Huamin Liu Yuxiang Ma Xuede Wang 2021Grain & Oil Science and Technology2021,4,4:2
15A single-center retrospective study on epidemiological and Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome characteristics of 21010 patients with reflux/heartburn symptoms显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To provide a basis for the clinical identification of true and false reflux,integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine,and psychosomatic treatment,we conducted a retrospective study of the etiology and epidemiological and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome characteristics of patients with reflux/heartburn symptoms.METHODS:The 210 10 patients with reflux/heartburn treated at Tianjin Nankai Hospital from January 1,2016,to December 31,2019,were divided into four groups according to their pathogenesis.Sex,age,course of disease,incidence rate,gastroscopy,24-h p Himpedance,esophageal manometry,Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)/Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) score,8-week proton pump inhibitor(PPI) treatment effect,and TCM syndrome characteristics were statistically analyzed.RESULTS:A total of 21010 patients(8864 men and 12146 women),with reflux/heartburn symptoms were screened,including 6284(29.9%) patients with reflux esophagitis(RE),10427(49.6%) patients with nonerosive reflux esophagitis(NERD),2430(11.6%) patients with reflux hypersensitivity(RH),and 1870(8.9%) patients with functional heartburn(FH).The incidence of the disease was higher in women than in men(P <0.0001).The ranking of the incidence of anxiety and depression in these four groups was FH > RH > NERD > RE(P < 0.0001).There were more women than men in the groups with anxiety and more men than women in the groups with depression(P < 0.0001),and there was no significant difference in the distribution of anxiety and depression between men and women(P = 0.5689).There were significant differences in TCM syndrome characteristics between NERD,RE,and functional esophageal diseases(P < 0.01).The highest proportion of functional esophageal disease TCM symptoms was Qi stagnation and phlegm obstruction syndrome(36.16%),and there was no significant difference between RH and FH.The effective rates of PPI treatment at 8 weeks in patients in the RE,NERD,RH,and FH groups were 89%,72%,54%,and 0%,respectively.RE was classified into grades A,B,C,and D according to the Los Angeles grading system.The ranking of the incidence of these four grades was A > B > C > D(P < 0.0001).The effective rates of PPI treatment at 8 weeks were 91%,81%,69%,and 63% in patients with grade A,B,C,and D RE,respectively(P < 0.0001).The highest proportion of TCM syndrome types of NERD and RE was the stagnated heat syndrome in the liver and stomach syndrome,38.99% and 33.90%,respectively.CONCLUSION:Reflux/heartburn symptoms are relatively common in middle-aged women,and NERD is the most common etiology,followed by RE,RH,and FH.The most common TCM syndrome characteristics in NERD and RE were stagnated heat syndrome in the liver and stomach syndrome,and Qi stagnation and phlegm obstruction syndrome in functional esophageal diseases.Most patients with reflux/heartburn symptoms also experienced anxiety and depression.TANG Yanping LI Peicai LIU Xi LIU Lei GONG Yanxia WEI Xiaodong LIU Lina YANG Li 2023Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2023,43,3:2
16A shedding soluble form of interleukin-17 receptor D exacerbates collagen-induced arthritis through facilitating TNF-α-dependent receptor clustering显示文摘Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is exacerbated by TNF-alpha signaling.However,it remains unclear whether TNF-α-activated TNFR1 and TNFR2 are regulated by extracellular factors.Here,we showed that soluble glycosylated interleukin-17 receptor D(sIL-17RD),which was produced by proteolytic cleavage,enhanced TNF-α-induced RA.We revealed that IL-17RD shedding was induced by the proteolytic enzyme TACE and enhanced by TNF-αexpression in macrophages.Intriguingly,sIL-17RD was elevated in the sera of arthritic mice and rats.Recombinant sIL-17RD significantly enhanced the TNF-α-induced proinflammatory response by promoting TNF-α-TNFR-sIL-17RD complex formation and receptor clustering,leading to the accelerated development of collagen-induced arthritis.Our observations revealed that ectodomain shedding of IL-17RD occurred in RA to boost the TNF-α-induced inflammatory response.Targeting sIL-17RD may provide a new strategy for the therapy of RA.Sihan Liu Yanxia Fu Kunrong Mei Yinan Jiang Xiaojun Sun Yinyin Wang Fangli Ren Congshan Jiang Liesu Meng Shemin Lu Zhihai Qin Chen Dong Xinquan Wang Zhijie Chang Shigao Yang 2021Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,8:1
