| 1 | Changed clinical aspects of primary liver cancer in China during the past 30 years显示文摘BACKGROUND: Primary liver cancer (PLC) is one of the most frequently seen tumors in China. Thirty years ago, patients with PLC were often detected at relatively late stage, with a palpable mass or marked clinical symptoms and poor prognosis. In the past 30 years, the diagnosis and treatment of PLC have been greatly improved with better prognosis. METHODS: In order to study the changes of PLC during the 30 years, the clinical data of 3250 patients with PLC from 10 medical institutions of China were collected, ana- lyzed , and compared with those of 3254 PLC patients be- fore the 30 years. RESULTS: In the 3250 patients aged 1-80 years, with an average age of 49.1 years, the male to female ratio (2.3:1) was lower than that before the 30 years. 73.5% of the 3250 patients sought medical advice within 3 months after the onset of the disease in contrast to 63.8% before the 30 years. Compared with those patients before the 30 years the symptoms and signs were alleviated generally. The HBsAg positive rate was 81.0%, but the HCV-Ab positive rate was 13.2%. The AFP level in 75% of patients was elevated, but in the remaining 25% was normal. 1912 patients (58.8%) were confirmed pathologically. Among them 1755 patients (91.8%) had hepatocellular carcinoma. The overall resec- tion rate was 46.3%. Those who had early, middle, late stage carcinoma accounted for 29.9%, 51.5%, and 18.6%respectively in contrast to 0.4%, 47.0%, and 52.6% repor- ted before the 30 years. The 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates of the patients were 66.1%, 39.7%, and 32.5% respectively, whereas 93.5%, 70.1%, and 59.1% for the early stage pa- tients, and 65.3%, 30.5%, and 23.5% for the middle stage patients. The half and 1-year survival rates of the late stage patients were 52.5%, and 14.7%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Comparison with the clinical data before and after the 30 years show that PLC can be diagnosed ear- ly. | 2 | Effect of soothing-liver and nourishing-heart acupuncture on early selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment onset for depressive disorder and related indicators of neuroimmunology:a randomized controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of soothing-liver and nourishing-heart acupuncture on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRIs) treatment effect onset in patients with depressive disorder and related indicators of neuroimmunology.METHODS:Overall,126 patients with depressive disorder were randomly divided into a medicine and acupuncture-medicine group using a random number table.Patients were treated for 6 consecutive weeks.The two groups were evaluated by the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale(MADRS) and Side Effects Rating Scale(SERS) to assess the effect of the soothing-liver and nourishing-heart acupuncture method on early onset of SSRI treatment effect.Changes in serum 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) and inflammatory cytokines before and after treatment were recorded and compared between the medicine group and the acupuncture-medicine group.RESULTS:The acupuncture-medicine group had significantly lower MADRS scores at weeks 1,2,4,and 6 after treatment compared with the medicine group(P < 0.01).The acupuncture group had significantly lower SERS scores at weeks 1,2,4,and 6 after treatment compared with the medicine group(P < 0.01).At 6 weeks after treatment,serum 5-HT in the acupuncture-medicine group was significantly higher compared with the medicine group(P <0.01).lnterleukin-6(IL-6) in the acupuncture-medicine group was significantly lower than that in the medicine group(P < 0.01),whereas there was no significant difference in IL-1(3 between the groups(P > 0.05).Anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4 and IL-10 were significantly higher in the acupuncture-medicine group compared with the medicine group(P < 0.01,P < 0.05,respectively).CONCLUSION:The soothing-liver and nourishing-heart acupuncture method can effectively accelerate the onset of SSRI effects when treating depressive disorder and can significantly reduce the adverse reactions of SSRIs.Moreover,acupuncture can enhance serum 5-HT and regulate the balance of pro-inflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory cytokines. | Liu Yi Feng Hui Mo Yali Gao Jingfang Mao Hongjing Song Mingfen Wang Shengdong Yin Yan Liu Wenjuan | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,5: | 13 |
| 3 | A smart safe rechargeable zinc ion battery based on sol-gel transition electrolytes显示文摘Thermal runaway has been a long-standing safety issue impeding the development of high-energydensity batteries. Physical safety designs such as employing circuit-breakers and fuses to batteries are limited by small operating voltage windows and no resumption of original working condition when it is cooled down. Here we report a smart thermoresponsive polymer electrolyte that can be incorporated inside batteries to prevent thermal runaway via a fast and reversible sol-gel transition, and successfully combine this smart electrolyte with a rechargeable Zn/a-MnO_2 battery system. At high temperature, battery operation is inhibited as a result of the increased internal resistance caused by the gelation of liquid electrolyte. After cooling down, the electrolyte is spontaneously reversed to sol state and the electrochemical performance of the battery is restored. | 4 | Dynamic immune profiling identifies the stronger graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effects with haploidentical allografts compared to HLA-matched stem cell transplantation显示文摘Haploidentical stem cell transplantation(haplo-SCT)achieves superior or at least comparable clinical outcomes to HLA-matched sibling donor transplantation(MSDT)in treating hematological malignancies.To define the underlying regulatory dynamics,we analyzed time courses of leukemia burden and immune abundance of haplo-SCT or MSDT from multiple dimension.First,we employed two nonirradiated leukemia mouse models which carried human AML-ETO or MLL-AF9 fusion gene to establish haplo-identical and major histocompatibility(MHC)-matched transplantation models and investigated the immune cell dynamic response during leukemia development in vivo.We found that haplo-matching the MHCs of leukemia cells with recipient mouse T cells prolonged leukemic mice survival and reduced leukemia burden.The stronger graft-versus-leukemia activity in haplo-SCT group mainly induced by decreased apoptosis and increased cytotoxic cytokine secretion including tumor necrosis factor–α,interferon-γ,pore-forming proteins and CD107a secreted by T cells or natural killer cells.Furthermore,we conducted a prospective clinical trial which enrolled 135 patients with t(8;21)acute myeloid leukemia that displayed minimal residual disease before transplantation and underwent either haplo-SCT or MSDT.The results showed that the haplo-SCT slowed the kinetics of the leukemia burden in vivo and reduced the cumulative incidence of relapse compared with MSDT.Ex vivo experiments showed that,1 year after transplantation,cytotoxic T lymphocytes from the haplo-SCT group had higher cytotoxicity than those from the MSDT group during the same period.Our results unraveled the role of immune cells in superior antileukemia effects of haplo-SCT compared with MSDT. | Huidong Guo Ying-Jun Chang Yan Hong Lan-Ping Xu Yu Wang Xiao-Hui Zhang Ming Wang Huan Chen Yu-Hong Chen Feng-Rong Wang Wei-Han Yu-Qian Sun Chen-Hua Yan Fei-Fei Tang Xiao-Dong Mo Kai-Yan Liu Xiao-Jun Huang | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,5: | 11 |
| 5 | One-stop strategy for treatment of atrial fibrillation:feasibility and safety of combining catheter ablation and left atrial appendage closure in a single procedure显示文摘Background:Catheter ablation is effective in restoring sinus rhythm and left atrial appendage closure(LAAC)is increasingly used for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF).We aimed to observe the feasibility and safety of performing AF ablation and LAAC in a single(one-stop)procedure.Methods:Consecutive AF patients who underwent the combined procedure of AF ablation and LAAC with WATCHMAN device between March 2017 and September 2018 were prospectively enrolled.Baseline and intra-procedural parameters were evaluated.Three-month and subsequent 1-year follow-up were performed in all and earlier-enrolled subjects,respectively.Results:A total of 178 AF patients(94 males,68.9±8.1 years)underwent the one-stop procedure with CHA2DS2-VASc score 3.3±1.5 and HAS-BLED score 1.6±1.0,respectively.Pulmonary vein isolation was achieved in all patients while additional linear ablation was applied if the operator deemed necessary,yielding immediate ablation success rate of 98.9%(176/178).In the subsequent LAAC,satisfactory seal(residual leak<5 mm)was achieved in all patients.One stroke and four cardiac perforations occurred peri-operatively.At 3-month follow-up,sinus rhythm and satisfactory seal were maintained in 153/178(86.0%)and 178/178(100%)patients,respectively.One stroke and one delayed cardiac tamponade occurred,while no device-related thrombus or device migration was observed.During the 1-year follow-up for the earlier enrolled subjects,52/72(72.2%)of the patients maintained sinus rhythm.There was no stroke or systemic embolism observed.Conclusion:Combining catheter ablation and LAAC in a single procedure can be successfully and safely performed in non-valvular AF patients of Chinese population. | Mu Chen Zhi-Quan Wang Qun-Shan Wang Jian Sun Peng-Pai Zhang Xiang-Fei Feng Wei Li Ying Yu Bo Liu Bin-Feng Mo Rui Zhang Mei Yang Chang-Qi Gong Ming-Zhe Zhao Yi-Chi Yu Yan Zhao Qiu-Fen Lu Yi-Gang Li | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,12: | 11 |

| 10 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 11 | Non-buckled vitrectomy for retinal detachment with inferior breaks and proliferative vitreoretinophathy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the efficacy of non-buckled vitrectomy with classical endotamponade agents in the treatment of primary retinal detachment (RD) complicated by inferior breaks and proliferative vitreoretinophathy (PVR).METHODS: A retrospective, consecutive and case series study of 40 patients with inferior break RD and PVR≥C1 was conducted. All patients underwent a standard 3-port 20-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with gas or silicone oil tamponade without supplementary scleral buckling. The vitreous and all proliferative membrane were completely removed, and retinectomy was performed when necessary. The mean follow-up was 12.5 months. The primary and final anatomic success rate, visual acuity and complications were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Primary anatomic success rate was achieved in 35 of 40 eyes (87.5%) and the final anatomic success rate was 100%. The most common cause of redetachment was recurrent PVR. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at final follow-up was improved in 34 eyes (85%), remained stable in 1 eye (2.5%), and worsened in 5 eyes (12.5%). The mean visual acuity at final follow-up was improved significantly (P=0.000).CONCLUSION: This retrospective study provides evidence that vitrectomy without scleral buckling seemed to be an effective treatment for inferior break RD with PVR. | 13 | The role of collateral related donors in haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation显示文摘A key issue in the haploiedntical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(haplo-HSCT) setting is the search for the best donor, because donor selection can significantly impact the clinical outcomes. We aimed to identify the role of collateral related donors(CRDs) in donor selection for haplo-HSCT through comparing the clinical outcomes between CRDs(n = 60) and maternal donors(MDs, n = 296), which were the last choice of donor selection in immediate related donors(IRDs). The cumulative incidence of graft-versus-host disease was comparable between CRDs and MDs. The 5-year cumulative incidence of relapse and non-relapse mortality was 22.0%(95% CI, 11.3%–32.7%) versus 17.4%(95% CI, 13.0%–21.8%)(P = 0.455) and 25.0%(95% CI, 13.9%–36.1%) versus 23.1%(95% CI, 18.2%–28.0%)(P = 0.721) for the CRDs and MDs, respectively. The 5-year probabilities of disease-free survival and overall survival was 53.2%(95% CI, 40.4%–66.0%) versus 59.5%(95% CI, 53.8%–65.2%)(P = 0.406) and 56.5%(95% CI,43.8%–69.2%) versus 61.8%(95% CI, 56.1%–67.5%)(P = 0.458) for the CRDs and MDs, respectively.Female donor/male recipient(FDMR) CRDs were associated with the poorest clinical outcomes, and the clinical outcomes of non-FDMR CRDs were comparable to those of MDs. In summary, our results showed that CRDs did not showed superiority over MDs. | 14 | Interferon-α salvage treatment is effective for patients with acute leukemia/myelodysplastic syndrome with unsatisfactory response to minimal residual disease-directed donor lymphocyte infusion after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation显示文摘The efficacy of salvage interferon-α(IFN-α) treatment was investigated in patients with unsatisfactory response to minimal residual disease (MRD)-directed donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI)(n=24). Patients who did not become MRD-negative at 1 month after DLI were those with unsatisfactory response and were eligible to receive salvage IFN-α treatment within 3 months of DLI. Recombinant human IFN-α-2b injections were subcutaneously administered 2–3 times a week for 6 months. Nine (37.5%), 6 (25.0%), and 3 (12.5%) patients became MRD-negative at 1, 2, and>2 months after the salvage IFN-α treatment, respectively. Two-year cumulative incidences of relapse and non-relapse mortality were 35.9% and 8.3%, respectively. Two-year probabilities of event-free survival, disease-free survival, and overall survival were 51.6%, 54.3%, and 68.0%, respectively. Outcomes of patients subjected to salvage IFN-α treatment after DLI were significantly better than those with persistent MRD without IFN-α treatment. Moreover, clinical outcomes were comparable between the salvage DLI and IFN-α treatment groups. | 16 | Arsenic trioxide alleviates acute graft-versus-host disease by modulating macrophage polarization显示文摘This study aimed to explore macrophage polarization in acute graft-versus-host disease after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and investigated if arsenic trioxide(ATO) could correct this imbalance. In the colon of GVHD mice, we found that the number of F4/80+iNOS+ cells as well as the expression intensity of TNF-α and IL-1β was greater in the GVHD group than in the BM group, whereas the number of F4/80+CD206+ cells and the expression intensity of IL-10 and TGF-β was greater in the BM group than in the GVHD group. We investigated the effect of ATO on GVHD mice, and found that ATO treatment clearly improved the survival of the mice and reduced the severity of GVHD. In addition, ATO reduced the number of F4/80+iNOS+ cells, and increased the number of F4/80+CD206+ cells in the colon of GVHD mice. Furthermore, ATO sharply decreased CD86 and CD80 expression, and increased CD163 and CD206 expression in macrophages induced from aGVHD patients. Therefore,ATO can modulate the M1 and M2 phenotype in GVHD mice or in macrophages from aGVHD patients. | 19 | Hydrolyzed seawater pearl tablet modulates the immunity via attenuating Th1/Th2 imbalance in an immunosuppressed mouse model显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether Hydrolyzed Seawater Pearl tablet(HSPT) could modulate the Th1/Th2 imbalance in an immunosuppressed mouse model with Th1 to Th2 shift induced by Cyclosporine A(Cs A) which can be used in the clinical treatment of Th2 to Th1 shift diseases, and explore the possible mechanism for the adjuvant therapeutic efficacy of HSPT on recurrent respiratory infections(RRI) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS).METHODS: The mice were randomly divided into six groups of five animals each, namely normal group, model group, lentinan polysaccharide tablet(LPT) group and three HPST treated groups. HPST treated groups were administered with HPST(0.51,1.02, 2.04 g/kg) via intragastric gavage(i.g) for 30 consecutive days. LPT used as reference drug for positive control, LPT group was administered with LPT(8.2 mg/kg) for 30 consecutive days. Normal group and model group were received distilled water. The animals in model group, LPT group and HPST treated groups were injected intraperitoneally with Cs A(50 mg/kg) to establish the immunosuppressed mice model with Th1 to Th2 shift on the20 th, 22 nd and 24 th day, one hour after the administration of the respective treatment. Animals were sacrificed one hour after the last administration to collect blood and splenic tissue. The proportion of T cells including CD8+ and CD4+ T cells, Th1 and Th2 in peripheral blood of experimental mice were measured by flow cytometric. The protein level in serum and m RNA level in splenic tissue of experimental mice for interleukin(IL)-2, IL-12, interferon-γ(IFN-γ), IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 and IL-13 were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction respectively.RESULTS: HSPT elevated the proportion of T cells including both CD8+ and CD4+ T cells, in which the proportion of Th1 and Th2 cells increased, while the ratio of Th1/Th2 cells decreased in peripheral blood of the immunosuppressed mouse model with Th1 to Th2 shift induced by Cs A.
