1High prevalence of multidrug-resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii and dissemination of carbapenemase-encoding genes bla_(OXA-23-like),bla_(OXA-24-like)and bla_(NDM-1) in Algiers hospitals显示文摘Objective:To assess and characterize antibiotic resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii strains recovered from 5 health-care facilities in Algiers.Methods:Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by agar diffusion and agar dilution methods,resistance genes were identified by PCR and sequencing,and molecular typing of isolates was carried out by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR(ERIC-PCR).Results:Among 125 tested isolates,117(93.6% ) were multidrug-resistant.of which 94(75.2% ) were imipenem resistant.The bla_(ADC)and bla_(OXA-51-like) genes were detected in all isolates,in association with ISAba I sequence in 84% and 8% (imipenem resistant) of isolates,respectively.The bla_(OXA-23-like) and bla_(OXA-24-like)carbapenemase genes were delected in 67.02% and 20.21% of imipenem-resistant isolates,respectively.The bla_(OXA-23-like) gene is linked to ISAba1 or ISAba4 elements.The metallo-β-lactamase NDM-1 gene was found in 10(10.6% ) imipenem-resisianl strains from three hospitals,it is linked to ISAba125 clement in nine strains.Extended spectrum β-lactamases production was not detected.Imipenem and cefotaxime resistance phenolypes could not be transferred to Escherichia coli by conjugation.Outer membrane protein CarO gene was not delected in four imipenem-resisianl isolates.The aac(6')-1b.sul1,sul2,tetA and tetB genes were present in 5.31% .36.17% .77.65% .1.06% and 65.92% of strains,respectively.Class 1 integrons were detected in 23.4% strains.KRIC-PCR typing showed a genetic diversity among bla_(OXA-23-like) and bla_(OXA-24-like) positive strains,while clonality was observed among bla_(NDM-1)positives.Conclusions:This study highlighted the high prevalence of imipenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii in Algiers hospitals mediated mainly by bla_(OXA-23-like),bla_(OXA-24-like),and bla_(NDM-1) genes.Khadidja Khorsi Yamina Messai Moufida Hamidi Houria Ammari Rabah Bakour 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,6:20
2siRNA, miRNA and HIV: promises and challenges显示文摘Small interfering RNA (siRNA) and microRNA (miRNA) are small RNAs of 18-25 nucleotides (nt) in length that play important roles in regulating gene expression. They are incorporated into an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and serve as guides for silencing their corresponding target mRNAs based on complementary base-pairing. The promise of gene silencing has led many researchers to consider siRNA as an anti-viral tool. However, in long-term settings, many viruses appear to escape from this therapeutical strategy. An example of this may be seen in the case of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) which is able to evade RNA silencing by either mutating the siRNA- targeted sequence or by encoding for a partial suppressor of RNAi (RNA interference). On the other hand, because miRNA targeting does not require absolute complementarity of base-pairing, mutational escape by viruses from miRNA- specified silencing may be more difficult to achieve. 3A Multi-Domain Boundary Element Method to Analyze the Reflection and Transmission of Oblique Waves From Double Porous Thin Walls显示文摘In the present paper, we examine the performance of an efficient type of wave-absorbing porous marine structure under the attack of regular oblique waves by using a Multi-Domain Boundary Element Method(MDBEM). The structure consists of two perforated vertical thin barriers creating what can be called a wave absorbing chamber system. The barriers are surface piercing, thereby eliminating wave overtopping. The problem of the interaction of obliquely incident linear waves upon a pair of perforated barriers is first formulated in the context of linear diffraction theory. The resulting boundary integral equation, which is matched with far-field solutions presented in terms of analytical series with unknown coefficients, as well as the appropriate boundary conditions at the free surface, seabed, and barriers, is then solved numerically using MDBEM. Dissipation of the wave energy due to the presence of the perforated barriers is represented by a simple yet effective relation in terms of the porosity parameter appropriate for thin perforated walls. The results are presented in terms of reflection and transmission coefficients. 4Zinc oxide nano-enabled microfluidic reactor for water purification and its applicability to volatile organic compounds显示文摘This paper reports fast and efficient chemical decontamination of water within a tree-branched centimeter-scale microfluidic reactor.The microreactor integrates Zinc oxide nanowires(ZnO NWs)in situ grown acting as an efficient photocatalytic nanomaterial layer.Direct growth of ZnO NWs within the microfluidic chamber brings this photocatalytic medium at the very close vicinity of the water flow path,hence minimizing the required interaction time to produce efficient purification performance.We demonstrate a degradation efficiency of 95%in o5 s of residence time in one-pass only.According to our estimates,it becomes attainable using microfluidic reactors to produce decontamination of merely 1 l of water per day,typical of the human daily drinking water needs.To conduct our experiments,we have chosen a laboratory-scale case study as a seed for addressing the health concern of water contamination by volatile organic compounds(VOCs),which remain difficult to remove using alternative decontamination techniques,especially those involving water evaporation.The contaminated water sample contains mixture of five pollutants:Benzene;Toluene;Ethylbenzene;m–p Xylenes;and o-Xylene(BTEX)diluted in water at 10 p.p.m.concentration of each.Degradation was analytically monitored in a selective manner until it falls below 1 p.p.m.for each of the five pollutants,corresponding to the maximum contaminant level(MCL)established by the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).We also report on a preliminary study,investigating the nature of the chemical by-products after the photocatalytic VOCs degradation process.Imadeddine Azzouz Yamina Ghozlane Habba Martine Capochichi-Gnambodoe Frédéric Marty Jérôme Vial Yamin Leprince-Wang Tarik Bourouina 2018Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1:4

10Improving the knowledge of plant potential biodiversity-ecosystem services links using maps at the regional level in Southern Patagonia显示文摘Background:Biodiversity supports multiple ecosystem services,whereas species loss endangers the provision of many services and affects ecosystem resilience and resistance capacity.The increase of remote sensing techniques allows to estimate biodiversity and ecosystem services supply at the landscape level in areas with low available data(e.g.Southern Patagonia).This paper evaluates the potential biodiversity and how it links with ecosystem services,based on vascular plant species across eight ecological areas.We also evaluated the habitat plant requirements and their relation with natural gradients.A total of 977 plots were used to develop habitat suitability maps based on an environmental niche factor analysis of 15 more important indicator species for each ecological area(n=53 species)using 40 explanatory variables.Finally,these maps were combined into a single potential biodiversity map,which was linked with environmental variables and ecosystem services supply.For comparisons,data were extracted and compared through analyses of variance.Results:The plant habitat requirements varied greatly among the different ecological areas,and it was possible to define groups according to its specialization and marginality indexes.The potential biodiversity map allowed us to detect coldspots in the western mountains and hotspots in southern and eastern areas.Higher biodiversity was associated to higher temperatures and normalized difference vegetation index,while lower biodiversity was related to elevation and rainfall.Potential biodiversity was closely associated with supporting and provisioning ecosystem services in shrublands and grasslands in the humid steppe,while the lowest values were related to cultural ecosystem services in Nothofagus forests.Conclusions:The present study showed that plant species present remarkable differences in spatial distributions and ecological requirements,being a useful proxy for potential biodiversity modelling.Potential biodiversity values change across ecological areas allowing to identify hotspots and coldspots,a useful tool for landscape management and conservation strategies.In addition,links with ecosystem services detect potential synergies and trade-offs,where areas with the lowest potential biodiversity are related to cultural ecosystem services(e.g.aesthetic values)and areas with the greatest potential biodiversity showed threats related to productive activities(e.g.livestock).Yamina Micaela Rosas Pablo L.Peri María Vanessa Lencinas Romina Lasagno Guillermo J.Martínez Pastur 2021Ecological Processes2021,10,1:1

13Delineation of groundwater potential zones in Wadi Saida Watershed of NW-Algeria using remote sensing,geographic information system-based AHP techniques and geostatistical analysis显示文摘Sustainable management of groundwater resources has now become an obligation,especially in arid and semi-arid regions given the socio-economic importance of this resource.The optimization in zoning for groundwater exploitation helps in planning and managing groundwater supply works such as boreholes and wells in the catchment.The objective of this study is to use remote sensing and GIS-based Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP)techniques to evaluate the groundwater potential of Wadi Saida Watershed.Spatial analysis such as geostatistics was also used to validate results and ensure more accuracy.Through the GIS tools and remote sensing technique,earth observation data were converted into thematic layers such as lineament density,geology,drainage density,slope,land use and rainfall,which were combined to delineate groundwater potential zones.Based on their respective impact on groundwater potential,the AHP approach was adopted to assign weights on multi-influencing factors.These results will enable decision-makers to optimize hydrogeological exploration in large-scale catchment areas and map areas.According to the results,the southern part of the Wadi Saida Watershed is characterized as a higher groundwater potential area,where 32%of the total surface area falls in the excellent and good class of groundwater potential.The validation process revealed a 71%agreement between the estimated and actual yield of the existing boreholes in the study area.Cherif Kessar Yamina Benkesmia Bilal Blissag Lahsen Wahib Kébir 2021Journal of Groundwater Science and Engineering2021,9,1:1
14Modeling of potential habitat suitability of Hippocamelus bisulcus: effectiveness of a protected areas network in Southern Patagonia显示文摘Introduction:Huemul(Hippocamelus bisulcus Molina)is the most threatened flag species of Southern Patagonia,where conservation efforts were not effective to avoid the retraction of its distribution area.Habitat quality modeling can assist to design better management strategies for regional conservation planning.The objective was to elaborate one habitat suitability map for huemul,defining the environmental characteristics at landscape level,and determining the distribution of the suitable habitat inside the current natural reserve network.Methods:We used a database of 453 records and explored 40 potential explanatory variables(climate,topographic,and landscape variables including human-related ones)to develop one habitat suitability map using the Environmental Niche Factor Analysis(ENFA)for Santa Cruz province(Argentina).We combined the outputs in a GIS project using different shapes,including the current natural reserve network.Results:We defined the potential habitat for huemul,where forest edges and ecotone zones(e.g.,mainly alpine environments)were the most important environmental variables,as well as some forest types(e.g.,Nothofagus pumilio).Habitat losses were found in the extreme potential distribution areas(northern and southern areas),probably related to the increasing ranch activities.The current natural reserve network maintains approximately half of the huemul potential habitat in Santa Cruz province,where National Parks presented the similar conservation importance than the Provincial natural reserves.Conclusions:Habitat suitability model for huemul can be used as a decision support system for new management strategies at different landscape levels to improve the current conservation efforts.Yamina Micaela Rosas Pablo LPeri Alejandro Huertas Herrera Hernán Pastore Guillermo Martínez Pastur 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:0
15Assessing the Efficacy of Improved Learning in Hourly Global Irradiance Prediction显示文摘Increasing global energy consumption has become an urgent problem as natural energy sources such as oil,gas,and uranium are rapidly running out.Research into renewable energy sources such as solar energy is being pursued to counter this.Solar energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources,as it has the potential to meet the world’s energy needs indefinitely.This study aims to develop and evaluate artificial intelligence(AI)models for predicting hourly global irradiation.The hyperparameters were optimized using the Broyden-FletcherGoldfarb-Shanno(BFGS)quasi-Newton training algorithm and STATISTICA software.Data from two stations in Algeria with different climatic zones were used to develop the model.Various error measurements were used to determine the accuracy of the prediction models,including the correlation coefficient,the mean absolute error,and the root mean square error(RMSE).The optimal support vector machine(SVM)model showed exceptional efficiency during the training phase,with a high correlation coefficient(R=0.99)and a low mean absolute error(MAE=26.5741 Wh/m^(2)),as well as an RMSE of 38.7045 Wh/m^(2) across all phases.Overall,this study highlights the importance of accurate prediction models in the renewable energy,which can contribute to better energy management and planning.Abdennasser Dahmani Yamina Ammi Nadjem Bailek Alban Kuriqi Nadhir Al-Ansari Salah Hanini Ilhami Colak Laith Abualigah El-Sayed M.El-kenawy 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,77,11:0

18X-ray Structure and Density Functional Theory Investigations of 4-((2R)-2-(3,4-dibromophenyl)-1-fluoro cyclopropyl)-N-(o-tolyl)benzamide Compound显示文摘In this work,the structure of 4-((2R)-2-(3,4-dibromophenyl)-1-fluorocyclopropyl)-N-(o-tolyl)benzamide(DBFB)has been determined at room temperature using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data.The structure of the compound was solved using 1464 observed reflections with I≥2σ(I).It crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21 with a=20.0820(10),b=10.2770(10),c=4.860(2)?,β=95.9600(10)°,V=997.6(4)?3,Z=2,Dc=1.675 g/m3,F(000)=500,Μr=503.18,μ=4.09 mm-1 and the final R=0.0639.The molecular packing of the title compound exhibits C–H???O and C–H???F hydrogen bonds forming a supramolecular network.Furthermore,conformational analysis has been performed in order to confirm the most stable conformer of the title compound.Geometrical parameters of the keto conformer in the ground state have been obtained using density functional theory(DFT)method with B3LYP/6-31G(d,p)level of theory.In general,a good agreement between the calculated and experimental results was observed.The normal modes of vibration,molecular boundary orbitals(HOMO and LUMO),reactivity descriptors,Mullikan atomic charges and molecular electrostatic potential for the title compound have been evaluated and discussed.BENELHADJ-DJELLOUL Yamina BOUKABCHA Nourdine BENHALIMA Nadia YAHIAOUI Salem CHOUAIH Abdelkader ZANOUN Abdelouahab 2020Chinese Journal of Structural Chemistry2020,39,9:0

20Knowledge arising from long-term research of variable retention harvesting in Tierra del Fuego: where do we go from here?显示文摘Nothofagus pumilio forests in Tierra del Fuego are the southernmost forests in the world,where extreme climate conditions represent a challenge to attain sustainable forest management.Retention forestry was proposed as an alternative to increase the species conservation in managed stands.Here,we synthetized results related to the implementation of a variable retention harvesting based on a combination of aggregate patches and dispersed retention during the last 18 years comparing with other silviculture proposals(e.g.,shelterwood cuts)and control treatments(primary unmanaged forests).We summarized the results for(i)sawmill operations,(ii)timber yield,(iii)overstory stability,(iv)forest structure,(v)microclimate and natural cycles,(vi)natural regeneration dynamics(flowering,seeding,foraging,recruitment,growth,and mortality),and(vii)biodiversity(mammals,understory plants,mistletoes,birds,arthropods,mosses,lichens,and fungi).In general,aggregate patches maintained forest structure and micro-environmental variables,and slightly increased biodiversity and forest reproduction variables compared to unmanaged primary forests.On the contrary,dispersed retention decreased forest structure variables and greatly increased biodiversity(richness and abundance)when it was compared to unmanaged primary forests.Ecological conditions are influenced by variable retention harvesting,but direction and magnitude of the effect depend and differ according to retention types.Besides this,biodiversity taxa greatly differed among groups depending on retention types.In general,the species assemblages in aggregate patches were similar to those found in primary unmanaged forests,while they were significantly modified in the dispersed retention.This occurred due to(i)local extinction of some original species,(ii)the introduction of native species from the surrounding environments,or(iii)the invasion of exotic species.This silvicultural method has been a useful tool to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem functions,approaching to the balance between economy,ecology,and social requirements in the managed areas.Guillermo J.Martínez Pastur Yamina M.Rosas Mónica Toro Manríquez Alejandro Huertas Herrera Juan A.Miller Juan M.Cellini Marcelo D.Barrera Pablo L.Peri María V.Lencinas 2019Ecological Processes2019,8,1:0
