Cavernous hemangioma of adult pancreas: A case report and literature review显示文摘Pancreatic hemangioma is a rare type of benign vascular tumor.Low clinical suspicion and inability of current cross sectional imaging techniques to differentiate it from other pancreatic lesions, contribute to the difficulty in making the correct diagnosis.Without a definitive diagnosis, and due to concern for malignancy,in many instances, surgery is performed. We report a case of pancreas cavernous hemangioma in an 18-yearold female. The patient presented with three-month history of epigastric pain.Physical examination and routine blood tests were normal.Abdominal Computed Tomography scan revealed a 5 cm × 6 cm complex nonenhancing cystic mass in the head of pancreas.Magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) and EUS guided fine needle aspiration cytology were non-diagnostic.Because of uncontrolled symptoms, the patient underwent surgical resection.Histopathology and Immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma of pancreas.Utpal Mondal Nichole Henkes David Henkes Laura Rosenkranz 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,33:7
Analysis and design of open trench barriers in screening steady-state surface vibrations显示文摘The problem of vibration isolation by rectangular open trenches in a plane strain context is numerically studied using a finite element code, PLAXIS. The soil media is assumed to be linear elastic, isotropic, and homogeneous subjected to a vertical harmonic load producing steady-state vibration. The present model is validated by comparing it with previously published works. The key geometrical features of a trench, i.e., its depth, width, and distance from the source of excitation, are normalized with respect to the Rayleigh wavelength. The attenuation of vertical and horizontal components of vibration is studied for various trench dimensions against trench locations varied from an active to a passive case. Results are depicted in non-dimensional forms and conclusions are drawn regarding the effects of geometrical parameters in attenuating vertical and horizontal vibration components. The screening efficiency is primarily governed by the normalized depth of the barrier. The effect of width has little significance except in some specific cases. Simplified regression models are developed to estimate average amplitude reduction factors. The models applicable to vertical vibration cases are found to be in excellent agreement with previously published results.Ankurjyoti Saikia Utpal Kumar Das 2014Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2014,13,3:7
Sarcopenia in Chronic Liver Disease:A Metabolic Perspective显示文摘Sarcopenia,a condition of low muscle mass, quality, and strength,is commonly found in patients with chronic liver disease(CLD)and is associated with adverse clinical out-comes including reduction in quality of life, increased mor-tality,and complications.A major contributor to sarcopenia in CLD is the imbalance in muscle protein turnover wherein changes in various metabolic factors such as hyperammone-mia,amino acid deprivation, hormonal imbalance, gut dys-biosis,insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, etc.have important roles. In particular, hyperammonemia is a key mediator of the liver-gut axis and is known to contribute to sarcopenia by various mechanisms including increased ex-pression of myostatin, increased phosphorylation of eukary-otic initiation factor 2a,cataplerosis ofα-ketoglutarate,mi-tochondrial dysfunction, increased reactive oxygen species that decrease protein synthesis and increased autophagy-mediated proteolysis.Skeletal muscle is a major organ of insulin-induced glucose metabolism, and sarcopenia is closely linked to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.Patients with liver cirrhosis are in a hypermetabolic state that is associated with catabolism and depletion of amino acids, particularly branched-chain amino acids.Sarcopenia can have significant implications for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the most common form of CLD worldwide, because of the close link between metabolic syndrome and sarcope-nia.This review discusses the potential metabolic derange-ment as a cause or effect of sarcopenia in CLD,as well as interorgan crosstalk, which that might help identifying a novel therapeutic strategies.Ramesh Kumar Sabbu Surya Prakash Rajeev Nayan Priyadarshi Utpal Anand 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6:4

Chronic renal dysfunction in cirrhosis:A new frontier in hepatology显示文摘Chronic kidney disease(CKD)in patients with liver cirrhosis has become a new frontier in hepatology. In recent years,a sharp increase in the diagnosis of CKD has been observed among patients with cirrhosis. The rising prevalence of risk factors, such as diabetes, hypertension and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, appears to have contributed significantly to the high prevalence of CKD.Moreover, the diagnosis of CKD in cirrhosis is now based on a reduction in the estimated glomerular filtration rate of<60 mL/min over more than 3 mo.This definition has resulted in a better differentiation of CKD from acute kidney injury(AKI),leading to its greater recognition. It has also been noted that a significant proportion of AKI transforms into CKD in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.CKD in cirrhosis can be structural CKD due to kidney injury or functional CKD secondary to circulatory and neurohormonal imbalances. The available literature on combined cirrhosis-CKD is extremely limited,as most attempts to assess renal dysfunction in cirrhosis have so far concentrated on AKI.Due to problems related to glomerular filtration rate estimation in cirrhosis, the absence of reliable biomarkers of CKD and technical difficulties in performing renal biopsy in advanced cirrhosis,CKD in cirrhosis can present many challenges for clinicians. With combined hepatorenal dysfunctions, fluid mobilization becomes problematic, and there may be difficulties with drug tolerance, hemodialysis and decision-making regarding the need for liver vs simultaneous liver and kidney transplantation. This paper offers a thorough overview of the increasingly known CKD in patients with cirrhosis, with clinical consequences and difficulties occurring in the diagnosis and treatment of such patients.Ramesh Kumar Rajeev Nayan Priyadarshi Utpal Anand 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,11:3
Medicinal potential of Passiflora foetida L. plant extracts: biological and pharmacological activities显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate analgesic, antidiarrhoeal and cytotoxic activities of the ethanol extract of Passifl ora foetida L.(Passifl oraceae) by three experimental methods. METHODS: Analgesic activity of the ethanol extract of Passifl ora foetida L.(EEPF) was carried out using acetic acid-induced writhing inhibition in mice. The method of castor oil-induced diarrhoea in mice was utilized to evaluate antidiarrhoeal activity. The cytotoxic activity of EEPF was explored with a brine shrimp lethality bioassay.RESULTS: The extract showed 68.75% and 30.00% inhibition of writhe at the doses of 500 and 250 mg/kg body weight, respectively. The extract increased the mean latent period prior to diarrhoeal onset to about 1.55 h and 1.17 h, and decreased the mean number of stools to 4.4 and 5.6 at the doses of 500 and 250 mg/kg body weight. The extract also demonstrated cytotoxic activity in the brine shrimp lethality assay, and the median lethal concentration for brine shrimp nauplii was 80 μg/mL. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the plant extract has analgesic and antidiarrhoeal activities, supporting its uses in traditional medicine. The results also demonstrate that the plant extract possesses cytotoxic activities.Md.Asadujjaman Ahmed Ullah Mishuk Md.Aslam Hossain Utpal Kumar Karmakar 2014Journal of Integrative Medicine2014,12,2:3

Adsorption of Hydrazoic Acid on Pristine Graphyne Sheet: A Computational Study显示文摘Herein we have investigated the interaction between hydrazoic acid(HN3) and a pristine graphyne system based on density functional theory(DFT) method using generalized gradient approximation. The van der Waals dispersion correction is also considered for predicting the possibility of using the graphyne system for detection of hydrazoic acid. Pristine graphyne has a band gap of 0.453 eV, which decreases to 0.424 eV when HN3 is adsorbed on graphyne. The electrical conductivity of HN3-adsorbed graphyne is greater than that of its pristine counterpart. Charge transfer analysis reveals that the HN3-adsorbed graphyne system behaves as an n-type semiconductor; however, its pristine analogue acts as an intrinsic semiconductor. Pristine graphyne has zero dipole moment; however, its interaction with HN3 increases its dipole moment. The electronic properties of graphyne is significantly influenced by the presence of HN3, leading to the possibility of designing graphyne-based sensors for HN3 detection.DEB Jyotirmoy PAUL Debolina PEGU David SARKAR Utpal 2018物理化学学报2018,34,5:2

High prevalence of pathogenic Leptospira in wild and domesticated animals in an endemic area of China显示文摘Objective:To assess the prevalence of Leptospira detected in wildlife and domesticated animals in Jiangxi Province,China,in 2009.Methods:Urine samples from 28 buffaloes and kidney samples from 50 pigs,50 dogs and 38 rats were collected from Fuliang and Shangrao County,Jiangxi Province,China,in October 2009.Polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and culture analyses were used to detect Leptospira. The cultured isolates were typed using the microscopic agglutination lest(MAT).Results:The results showed that rats potentially serve as the main reservoir of leptospiral infection, followed by dogs.Although 16%of rats(6/38) were positive using culture analysis,PCR analysis using the diagnostic primers G1/G2 and B64Ⅰ/B64Ⅱor lipLS2 showed identification as 50%and 24%,respectively,of the rat samples as positive for the presence of leptospiral DNA.Conclusions:PCR-based detection of leptospiral DNA in infected kidney tissues of reservoirs is more efficient when using G1/G2 primers than lipL32 primers. However, the latter primers have a potential application for detection in urine samples. The alarmingly high prevalence of leptospiral DMA in the wild rat population near human habitation underscores the utility of routine Leptospira surveillance, preferably using PCR methods, which are more sensitive than traditional culture-based methods.Wang Yalin Zeng Lingbing Yang Hongliang Xu Jianmin Zhang Xiangyan Guo Xiaokui Pal Utpal Qin Jinhong 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,11:2

Soil texture classification using multi class support vector machine显示文摘The objective of this study is to process the soil images to generate a digital soil classification system for rural farmers at low cost.Soil texture is the main factor to be considered before doing cultivation. It affects the crop selection and regulates the water transmission property. The conventional hydrometer method determines the percentage of sand, silt, and clay present in a soil sample. This method is very cost and time-consuming process. In this approach,we collect 50 soil samples from the different region of west Guwahati,Assam,India. The samples are photographed under a constant light condition using an Android mobile of 13 MP cameras. The fraction of sand, silt, and clay of the soil samples are determined using the hydrometer test. The result of the hydrometer test is processed with the United State Department of Agriculture soil classification triangle for the final soil classification.Soil images are processed through the different stages like pre-processing of soil images for image enhancement, extracting the region of interest for segmentation and the texture analysis for feature vector. The feature vector is calculated from the Hue,Saturation, and Value(HSV)histogram, color moments, color auto Correlogram,Gabor wavelets, and discrete wavelet transform. Finally,Support Vector Machine classifier is used to classify the soil images using linear kernel. The proposed method gives an average of 91.37%accuracy for all the soil samples and the result is nearly the same with the United State Department of Agriculture soil classification.Utpal Barman Ridip Dev Choudhury 2020Information Processing in Agriculture2020,7,2:2

Identification of distant co-evolving residues in antigen 85C from Mycobacterium tuberculosis using statistical coupling analysis of the esterase family proteins显示文摘A fundamental goal in cellular signaling is to understand allosteric communication, the process by which sig-nals originating at one site in a protein propagate reliably to affect distant functional sites. The general principles of protein structure that underlie this process remain unknown. Statistical coupling analysis (SCA) is a statistical technique that uses evolutionary data of a protein family to measure correlation between distant functional sites and suggests allosteric communication. In proteins, very distant and small interactions between collections of amino acids provide the communication which can be important for signaling process. In this paper, we present the SCA of protein alignment of the esterase family (pfam ID: PF00756) containing the sequence of antigen 85C secreted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis to identify a subset of interacting residues. Clustering analysis of the pairwise correlation highlighted seven important residue positions in the esterase family alignments. These resi-dues were then mapped on the crystal structure of antigen 85C (PDB ID: 1DQZ). The mapping revealed corre-lation between 3 distant residues (Asp38, Leu123 and Met125) and suggests allosteric communication between them. This information can be used for a new drug against this fatal disease.Veeky Baths Utpal Roy 2011The Journal of Biomedical Research2011,25,3:2

Draft genome sequence of a less-known wild Vigna: Beach pea(V. marina cv. ANBp-14-03)显示文摘Beach pea or beach cowpea(Vigna marina(Burm.)Merr.)belongs to the family Fabaceae. It is a close relative of cultivated Vigna species such as adzuki bean(V.angularis),cowpea(V.unguiculata),mung bean(V.radiata),and blackgram(V.mungo),and is distributed throughout the tropics. With its ability to tolerate salt stress, beach pea has great potential to contribute salt-tolerance genes for developing salt-tolerant cultivars in cultivated Vigna species. However,it is still underutilized in Vigna breeding programs.A draft genome sequence of beach pea was generated using a high-throughput next-generation sequencing platform, yielding 23.7 Gb of sequence from 79,929,868 filtered reads.A de novo genome assembly containing 68,731 scaffolds gave an N50 length of 10,272 bp and the assembled sequences totaled 365.6 Mb.A total of 35,448 SSRs,including 3574 compound SSRs,were identified and primer pairs for most of these SSRs were designed.Genome analysis identified 50,670 genes with mean coding sequence length 1042 bp.Phylogenetic analysis revealed highest sequence similarity with V.angularis, followed by V.radiata.Comparison with the V.angularis genome revealed 16,699 SNPs and 2253 InDels and comparison with the V.radiata genome revealed 17,538 SNPs and 2300 InDels. To our knowledge this is the first draft genome sequence of beach pea derived from an accession(ANBp-14-03)adapted locally in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India. The draft genome sequence may facilitate the genetic enhancement in cultivated Vigna species.Awnindra Kumar Singh A.Velmurugan Debjyoti Sen Gupta Jitendra Kumar Ravi Kesari Aravind Konda Narendra Pratap Singh Sibnarayan Dam Roy Utpal Biswas R.Rahul Kumar Sanjay Singh 2019The Crop Journal2019,7,5:2
