Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Lap Welded Aluminum Alloy AA2014显示文摘Friction stir lap welds were produced in 3 mm thick Alclad sheets of Al alloy 2014-T4 using two different tools (with triangular and threaded taper cylindrical pins). The effects of tool geometry on weld microstructure, lap-shear performance and failure mode were investigated. The pin profile was found to significantly influence the hook geometry, which in turn strongly influenced the joint strength and the failure mode. Welds produced in alloy 2014-T4 Alclad sheets by using triangular and threaded taper cylindrical tools exhibited an average lap-shear failure load of 16.5 and 19.5 kN, respectively, while the average failure load for standard riveted joints was only 3.4 kN. Welds produced in alloy 2014-T6 Alclad sheets and in alloy 2014-T4 bare sheets (i.e., no Alclad) were comparatively evaluated with those produced in alloy 2014-T4 Alclad sheets. While the welds made (with threaded taper cylindrical tool) in T6 and T4 conditions showed very similar lap-shear failure loads, the joint efficiency of the welds made in T6 condition (43%) was considerably lower (because of the higher base material strength) than those made in T4 condition (51%). The Alclad layers were found to present no special problems in friction stir lap welding. Welds made with triangular tool in alloy 2014-T4 Alclad and bare sheets showed very similar lap-shear failure loads. The present work provides some useful insights into the use of friction stir welding for joining Al alloys in lap configuration. | S. Babu G.D. Janaki Ram P.V. Venkitakrishnan G. Madhusudhan Reddy K. | 2 | Statistical design and evaluation of a propranolol HCl gastric floating tablet显示文摘The purpose of this research was to apply statistical design for the preparation of a gastric floating tablet(GFT)of propranolol HCl and to investigate the effect of formulation variables on drug release and the buoyancy properties of the delivery system. The contents of polyethylene oxide(PEO)WSR coagulant and sodium bicarbonate were used as independent variables in central composite design of the best formulation.Main effects and interaction terms of the formulation variables were evaluated quantitatively using a mathematical model approach showing that both independent variables have significant effects on floating lag time,%drug release at 1 h(D_(1h))and time required to release 90%of the drug(t_(90)).The desired function was used to optimize the response variables, each with a different target, and the observed responses were in good agreement with the experimental values.FTIR and DSC studies of the statistically optimized formulation revealed there was no chemical interaction between drug and polymer. The statistically optimized formulation released drug according to first order kinetics with a non-Fickian diffusion mechanism.Evaluation of the optimized formulation in vivo in human volunteers showed that the GFT was buoyant in gastric fluid and that its gastric residence time was enhanced in the fed but not the fasted state. | Meka Venkata Srikanth Nali Sreenivasa Rao Songa Ambedkar Sunil Battu Janaki Ram Venkata Ramana Murthy Kolapalli | 2012 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,1: | 6
Estrogen receptor expression in chronic hepatitis C and hepatocellular carcinoma pathogenesis显示文摘AIM To investigate gender-specific liver estrogen receptor(ER) expression in normal subjects and patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS Liver tissues from normal donors and patients diagnosed with HCV-related cirrhosis and HCV-related HCC were obtained from the NIH Liver Tissue and Cell Distribution System. The expression of ER subtypes, ERα and ERβ, were evaluated by Western blotting and real-time RT-PCR. The subcellular distribution of ERα and ERβ was further determined in nuclear and cytoplasmic tissue lysates along with the expression ofinflammatory [activated NF-κB and IκB-kinase(IKK)] and oncogenic(cyclin D1) markers by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The expression of ERα and ERβ was correlated with the expression of activated NF-κB, activated IKK and cyclin D1 by Spearman's correlation. RESULTS Both ER subtypes were expressed in normal livers but male livers showed significantly higher expression of ERα than females(P < 0.05). We observed significantly higher m RNA expression of ERα in HCV-related HCC liver tissues as compared to normals(P < 0.05) and ERβ in livers of HCV-related cirrhosis and HCV-related HCC subjects(P < 0.05). At the protein level, there was a significantly higher expression of nuclear ERα in livers of HCV-related HCC patients and nuclear ERβ in HCV-related cirrhosis patients as compared to normals(P < 0.05). Furthermore, we observed a significantly higher expression of phosphorylated NF-κB and cyclin D1 in diseased livers(P < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between the expression of nuclear ER subtypes and nuclear cyclin D1 and a negative correlation between cytoplasmic ER subtypes and cytoplasmic phosphorylated IKK in HCV-related HCC livers. These findings suggest that dysregulated expression of ER subtypes following chronic HCVinfection may contribute to the progression of HCVrelated cirrhosis to HCV-related HCC.CONCLUSION Gender differences were observed in ERα expression in normal livers. Alterations in ER subtype expression observed in diseased livers may influence genderrelated disparity in HCV-related pathogenesis. | Janaki K Iyer Mamta Kalra Anil Kaul Mark E Payton Rashmi Kaul | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,37: | 5
Low temperature friction stir welding of P91 steel显示文摘Bead-on-plate friction stir welds were made on P91 alloy with low and high rotational speeds(100 and 1000 RPM) to study their effects on weld microstructural changes and impression creep behavior. Temperatures experienced by the stir zone were recorded at the weld tool tip. Different zones of welds were characterized for their microstructural changes, hardness and creep behavior(by impression creep tests). The results were compared with submerged arc fusion weld. Studies revealed that the stir zone temperature with 100 RPM was well below A_(c1) temperature of P91 steel while it was above A_(c3) with 1000 RPM. The results suggest that the microstructural degradation in P91 welds can be controlled by low temperature friction stir welding technique. | Prasad Rao KALVALA Javed AKRAM Mano MISRA Damodaram RAMACHANDRAN Janaki Ram GABBITA | 2016 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2016,12,4: | 4
Preliminary phytochemical and antimicrobial studies on a spike-moss Selaginella inaequalifolia(hook.& grev.) Spring显示文摘Objective:To screen the anti-cancer spike-mosses for the presence of various bioactivities and to identify the important bioactive chemicals present in Selaginella inaequalifolia(S. inaequalifolia)(Hook.& Grev.) Spring. Methods:Preliminary phytochemical screening was done by following the method of Brindha et al.Antimicrobial study was carried out by disc diffusion method. Results:Results of preliminary phytochemical screening on five different extracts(petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, ethanol and distilled water) of the spike-moss S.inaequalifolia show the presence steroids, triterpenes, phenolic group, tannin, sugars and catechin.Alkaloids, amino acids, anthraquinone and reducing sugar did not show any positive result.Among the five different extracts, ethanol and chloroform extracts show the presence of maximum number(4 each) of compounds. The results on antimicrobial studies show that all the three microbes[Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus),Escherichia coli(E.coli) and Candida albicans (C.albicans)]tested are resistant to the ethanol extract and susceptible to petroleum ether extract. The petroleum ether extract shows maximum inhibition with 45 mm of inhibition zone in C.albicans.The inhibition zone in S.aureus and E.coli are 26 mm and 22 mm respectively. Conclusions:The present study shows S.inaequalifolia having potent antibacterial and anticandidal activities. | Varaprasadham Irudayaraj Janaky M Marimuthu Johnson Nallayan Selvan | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,12: | 4
Stability management of high speed axial flow compressor stage through axial extensions of bend skewed casing treatment显示文摘This paper presents the experimental results to understand the performance of moderately loaded high speed single stage transonic axial flow compressor subjected to various configurations of axial extensions of bend skewed casing treatment with moderate porosity. The bend skewed casing treatment of 33%porosity was coupled with rectangular plenum chamber of depth equal to the slots depth. The five axial extensions of 20%,40%,60%,80%and 100%were used for the experimental evaluations of compressor performance. The main objective was to identify the optimum extension of the casing treatment with reference to rotor leading edge which results in maximum stall margin improvements with minimum loss in the stage efficiency. At each axial extension the compressor performance is distinctive. The improvement in the stall margin was very significant at some axial extensions with 4%–5%penalty in the stage efficiency. The compressors stage shows recovery in terms of efficiency at lower axial extensions of 20%and 40%with increase in the peak stage efficiency.Measurements of flow parameters showed the typical behaviors at near stall flow conditions.Hot wire sensor was placed at the rotor upstream in the tip region to capture the oscillations in the inlet axial and tangential velocities at stall conditions. In the absence of casing treatment the compressor exhibit abrupt stall with very high oscillations in the inlet axial and tangential velocity of the flow. The extents of oscillations reduce with bend skewed casing treatment.Few measurements were also performed in the plenum chamber and salient results are presented in this paper. | Dilipkumar Bhanudasji Alone S.Satish Kumar Shobhavathy M.Thimmaiah Janaki Rami Reddy Mudipalli A.M.Pradeep Srinivasan Ramamurthy Venkat S.Iyengara | 2016 | Propulsion and Power Research2016,5,3: | 3
An Attention Based Neural Architecture for Arrhythmia Detection and Classification from ECG Signals显示文摘Arrhythmia is ubiquitous worldwide and cardiologists tend to provide solutions from the recent advancements in medicine.Detecting arrhythmia from ECG signals is considered a standard approach and hence, automating this process would aid the diagnosis by providing fast, costefficient, and accurate solutions at scale. This is executed by extracting the definite properties from the individual patterns collected from Electrocardiography(ECG)signals causing arrhythmia. In this era of applied intelligence, automated detection and diagnostic solutions are widely used for their spontaneous and robust solutions. In this research, our contributions are two-fold.Firstly,the Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform(DT-CWT)method is implied to overhaul shift-invariance and aids signal reconstruction to extract significant features.Next,A neural attention mechanism is implied to capture temporal patterns from the extracted features of the ECG signal to discriminate distinct classes of arrhythmia and is trained end-to-end with the finest parameters. To ensure that the model’s generalizability,a set of five traintest variants are implied. The proposed model attains the highest accuracy of 98.5%for classifying 8 variants of arrhythmia on the MIT-BIH dataset. To test the resilience of the model, the unseen(test)samples are increased by 5x and the deviation in accuracy score and MSE was 0.12%and 0.1%respectively.Further,to assess the diagnostic model performance,AUC-ROC curves are plotted. At every test level, the proposed model is capable of generalizing new samples and leverages the advantage to develop a real-world application. As a note, this research is the first attempt to provide neural attention in arrhythmia classification using MIT-BIH ECG signals data with state-of-the-art performance. | Nimmala Mangathayaru Padmaja Rani Vinjamuri Janaki Kalyanapu Srinivas B.Mathura Bai G.Sai Mohan BLalith Bharadwaj | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,11: | 2
