Experimental verification of bridge seismic damage states quantified by calibrating analytical models with empirical field data显示文摘Bridges are one of the most vulnerable components of a highway transportation network system subjected to earthquake ground motions.Prediction of resilience and sustainability of bridge performance in a probabilistic manner provides valuable information for pre-event system upgrading and post-event functional recovery of the network. The current study integrates bridge seismic damageability information obtained through empirical, analytical and experimental procedures and quantifies threshold limits of bridge damage states consistent with the physical damage description given in HAZUS.Experimental data from a large-scale shaking table test are utilized for this purpose. This experiment was conducted at the University of Nevada,Reno, where a research team from the University of California,Irvine, participated.Observed experimental damage data are processed to identify and quantify bridge damage states in terms of rotational ductility at bridge column ends.In parallel,a mechanistic model for fragility curves is developed in such a way that the model can be calibrated against empirical fragility curves that have been constructed from damage data obtained during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. This calibration quantifies threshold values of bridge damage states and makes the analytical study consistent with damage data observed in past earthquakes. The mechanistic model is transportable and applicable to most types and sizes of bridges. Finally, calibrated damage state definitions are compared with that obtained using experimental findings.Comparison shows excellent consistency among results from analytical, empirical and experimental observations. | Swagata Banerjee Masanobu Shinozuka | 2008 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2008,7,4: | 2
A three-pronged analysis confirms the association of the serotoninergic system with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder显示文摘Background The serotonin transporter(SERT),encoded by the solute carrier family 6 number 4(SLC6A4)gene,controls serotonin(5-HT)availability and is essential for the regulation of behavioral traits. Two SLC6A4 genetic variants,5-HTTLPR and STin2,were widely investigated in patients with various neurobehavioral disorders, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD).Methods We analyzed the association of the 5-HTTLPR(L/S)and STin2(10/12)variants,plasma 5-HT,and 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid(5-HIAA),as well as SERT messenger RNA(mRNA)with ADHD in the eastern Indian subjects.Nuclear families with ADHD probands(n=274)and ethnically matched controls(n=367)were recruited following the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.Behavioral traits, executive function, and intelligence quotient(IQ)of the probands were assessed using the Conner's Parent Rating Scale–Revised,Parental Account of Children’s Symptoms(PACS),Barkley Deficit in Executive Functioning—Child and Adolescent Scale, and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III,respectively.After obtaining informed written consent, peripheral blood was collected to analyze genetic variants, plasma 5-HT,5-HIAA,and SERT mRNA expression. Results ADHD probands showed a higher frequency of the 5-HTTLPR“L”allele and“L/L”genotype(P<0.05),lower 5-HIAA level, and higher SERT mRNA expression.Scores for behavioral problems and hyperactivity were higher in the presence of the“S”allele and“S/S”genotype,while executive deficit was higher in the presence of the“L”allele.IQ score was lower in the presence of the STin2“12”allele and L-12 haplotype. Conclusion Data obtained indicate a significant association of the serotoninergic system with ADHD,warranting further in-depth investigation. | Mahasweta Chatterjee Sharmistha Saha Swagata Sinha Kanchan Mukhopadhyay | 2022 | World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,12: | 2

Effects of Main-chain and Chain-ends on the Organogelation of Stearoyl Appended Pendant Valine Based Polymers显示文摘In this work, we investigated the effect of hydrophobic interactions between the polymeric backbone and chain-end groups on the self-assembly pathway of stearoyl appended side-chain valine (Val)-based poly(methacrylate/acrylate) homopolymers in different organic hydrocarbons. Gelation studies conducted revealed that while polymers with polyacrylate as backbone induces gelation in several organic hydrocarbons, polymers with polymethacrylate in the main-chain significantly hinders macroscopic gelation. Morphology of the organogels was analysed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and mechanical strengths of the organogels were determined by rheological measurements. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization chain transfer agents (CTA)s,[R1 —S—C=(S)—S—R2] with different —Ri and — R2 groups, have been employed to study the effect of structural variation at the chain-end on macroscopic assembly mechanism. We found that the additional interactions between terminal groups via hydrogenbonding or n-n stacking interactions or both help to build up the self-assembly pathway and thereby produces mechanically stable organogels. | Mridula Nandi Swagata Pan Dipannita Ghosh Priyadarsi De | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2019,37,9: | 1
Importance of charge self-consistency in first-principles description of strongly correlated systems显示文摘First-principles approaches have been successful in solving many-body Hamiltonians for real materials to an extent when correlations are weak or moderate. As the electronic correlations become stronger often embedding methods based on first-principles approaches are used to better treat the correlations by solving a suitably chosen many-body Hamiltonian with a higher level theory. The success of such embedding theories, often referred to as second-principles,is commonly measured by the quality of self-energy E which is either a function of energy or momentum or both. However,E should,in principle, also modify the electronic eigenfunctions and thus change the real space charge distribution. While such practices are not prevalent, some works that use embedding techniques do take into account these effects. In such cases, choice of partitioning,of the parameters defining the correlated Hamiltonian,of double-counting corrections, and the adequacy of low-level Hamiltonian hosting the correlated subspace hinder a systematic and unambiguous understanding of such effects.Further, for a large variety of correlated systems, strong correlations are largely confined to the charge sector. Then an adequate non local low-order theory is important, and the high-order local correlations embedding contributes become redundant. Here we study the impact of charge self-consistency within two example cases,TiSez and CrBrs,and show how real space charge re-distribution due to correlation effects taken into.account within a first-principles Green's function-based many-body perturbative approach is key in driving qualitative changes to the final electronic structure of these materials. | Swagata Acharya Dimitar Pashov Alexander N.Rudenk Malte Rösner Mark van Schilfgaarde Mikhail I.Katsnelson | 2021 | npj Computational Materials2021,,1: | 1

A review of carbon dots and their composite materials for electrochemical energy technologies显示文摘Carbon dots(CDs)and their composites as energy storage materials and electrocatalysts have emerged as new types of quasi-zero-dimensional carbon materials.CDs can provide a large specific surface area, numerous electron-electron hole pairs, adjustable heteroatom doping, rich surface functional groups, and so on.However, the roles and functional mechanisms of CDs and their composite materials in the enhancement of electrochemical performance remain unclear and need to be understood in depth.Based on the most recent literature, this paper comprehensively reviews the synthesis methods and applications of various categories of CDs and their composites as electrode materials of supercapacitors,lithium-ion batteries,sodium-ion batteries, and potassium-ion batteries, and as electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution, oxygen evolution, and oxygen reduction reactions in metal-air batteries, fuel cells, and water electrolysis. To facilitate further research and development, several important aspects related to CDs and their composite materials are summarized with analysis of the technical challenges in practical applications and discussion of the possible development perspectives. | Yiming Liu Swagata Roy Samrat Sarkar Jiaqiang Xu Yufeng Zhao Jiujun Zhang | 2021 | Carbon Energy2021,3,5: | 1

Modeling of tunneling current density of GeC based double barrier multiple quantum well resonant tunneling diode显示文摘The double barrier quantum well(DBQW) resonant tunneling diode(RTD) structure made of SiGeSn/GeC/SiGeSn alloys grown on Ge substrate is analyzed. The tensile strained Ge_(1-z)C_z on Si_(1-x-y)Ge_xSn_y heterostructure provides a direct band gap type I configuration. The transmission coefficient and tunneling current density have been calculated considering single and multiple quantum wells. A comparative study of tunnelling current of the proposed structure is done with the existing RTD structure based on GeSn/SiGeSn DBH. A higher value of the current density for the proposed structure has been obtained. | Swagata Dey Vedatrayee Chakraborty Bratati Mukhopadhyay Gopa Sen | 2018 | Journal of Semiconductors2018,39,10: | 1
Analysis of neurotransmitters validates the importance of the dopaminergic system in autism spectrum disorder显示文摘Background The reasons behind the cardinal symptoms of communication deficits and repetitive, stereotyped behaviors that characterize autism spectrum disorder(ASD)remain unknown. The dopamine(DA)system, which regulates motor activity,goal-directed behaviors, and reward function,is believed to play a crucial role in ASD,although the exact mechanism is still unclear.Investigations have shown an association of the dopamine receptor D4(DRD4)with various neurobehavioral disorders. Methods We analyzed the association between ASD and four DRD4 genetic polymorphisms,5′flanking 120-bp duplication(rs4646984),rs1800955 in the promoter, exon 112 bp duplication(rs4646983),and exon 348 bp repeats. We also examined plasma DA and its metabolite levels,DRD4 mRNA expression, and correlations of the studied polymorphisms with these parameters by case–control comparative analyses. The expression of DA transporter(DAT),which is important in regulating the circulating DA level, was also evaluated. Results A significantly higher occurrence of rs1800955“T/TT”was observed in the probands.ASD traits were affected by rs1800955“T”and the higher repeat alleles of the exon 348 bp repeats,rs4646983 and rs4646984.ASD probands exhibited lower DA and norepinephrine levels together with higher homovanillic acid levels than the control subjects.DAT and DRD4 mRNA expression were down-regulated in the probands, especially in the presence of DAT rs3836790“6R”and rs27072“CC”and DRD4 rs4646984 higher repeat allele and rs1800955“T”.Conclusion This pioneering investigation revealed a positive correlation between genetic variants, hypodopaminergic state, and impairment in socio-emotional and communication reciprocity in Indian subjects with ASD,warranting further in-depth analysis. | Sharmistha Saha Mahasweta Chatterjee Nilanjana Dutta Swagata Sinha Kanchan Mukhopadhyay | 2023 | World Journal of Pediatrics2023,19,8: | 1
Recent advances in semimetallic pnictogen (As, Sb, Bi) based anodes for sodium-ion batteries: Structural design, charge storage mechanisms, key challenges and perspectives显示文摘In the recent times sodium ion batteries(SIBs)have come to the forefront as an economic and resourceful alternative to lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)for powering portable electronic devices and large-scale grid storage. As the specific capacity, energy density and long cycle life of batteries depend upon the performance of anode materials;their quest is the ultimate need of the hour.Among the anode materials, the semimetallic pnictogens(As,Sb,Bi)and their compounds offer high gravimetric/volumetric capacities, but suffer from undesired volume expansion and inferior electrical conductivity.Herein, this paper reviews the recent progress in semimetallic pnictogens as alloying anodes and their compounds mainly as conversion-alloying anodes.Various debatable sodiation mechanisms(intercalation or alloying)have been presented with emphasis on in situ/ex situ advanced characterization methods well supported by theoretical modeling and calculations. The reviewed electrochemical reaction mechanisms, coherent structural designs and engineering provide a vital understanding of the electrochemical processes of Na^(+) ion storage. The existing challenges and perspectives are also presented, and several research directions are proposed from the aspects of special morphological design, employing conductive substrates, electrolyte additives and reducing particle size for technical and commercial success of SIBs. | Samrat Sarkar Swagata Roy Yufeng Zhao Jiujun Zhang | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,11: | 1
