| 1 | Potential antibacterial activity of berberine against multi drug resistant enterovirulent Escherichia coli isolated from yaks(Poephagus grunniens) with haemorrhagic diarrhoea显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of berberine,a plant alkaloid.Methods:Five multi-drug resistant(MDR) STEC/EPEC and five MDR ETEC isolates from yaks with haemorrhagic diarrhoea were selected for the study.Antibacterial activity of berberine was evaluated by broth dilution and disc diffusion methods.The binding kinetics of berberine to DNA and protein was also enumerated.Results:For both categories of enterovirulent Escherichia coli(E.roli) isolates, berberine displayed the antibaclerial effect in a dose dependent manner.The MIC50 of berberine chloride for STEC/EPEC isolates varied from 2.07μM to 3.6μM with a mean of(2.95±0.33)μM where as for ETEC strains it varied from 1.75 to 1.96μM with a mean of(1.87±0.03)μM. | 2 | Enhanced oil recovery by nonionic surfactants considering micellization, surface, and foaming properties显示文摘Surfactants for enhanced oil recovery are important to study due to their special characteristics like foam generation,lowering interfacial tension between oleic and aqueous phases,and wettability alteration of reservoir rock surfaces.Foam is a good mobility control agent in enhanced oil recovery for improving the mobility ratio.In the present work,the foaming behavior of three nonionic ethoxylated surfactants,namely Tergitol 15-S-7,Tergitol 15-S-9,and Tergitol 15-S-12,was studied experimentally.Among the surfactants,Tergitol 15-S-12 shows the highest foamability.The effect of Na Cl concentration and synthetic seawater on foaming behavior of the surfactants was investigated by the test-tube shaking method.The critical micelle concentrations of aqueous solutions of the different nonionic surfactants were measured at 300 K.It was found that the critical micelle concentrations of all surfactants also increased with increasing ethylene oxide number.Dynamic light scattering experiments were performed to investigate the micelle sizes of the surfactants at their respective critical micelle concentrations.Core flooding experiments were carried out in sand packs using the surfactant solutions.It was found tha t22% additional oil was recovered in the case of all the surfactants over secondary water flooding.Tergitol 15-S-12exhibited the maximum additional oil recovery which is more than 26%after water injection. | Achinta Bera Ajay Mandal Hadi Belhaj Tarkeswar Kumar | 2017 | Petroleum Science2017,14,2: | 8 |
| 3 | Influence of cobalt on performance of Cu-CeO2 catalysts for preferential oxidation of CO显示文摘Copper and cobalt oxides supported on CeO2 were investigated for preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide(CO-PROX)in the presence of excess hydrogen and CO2.(Cuo)1-x(Co3 O4)x/3-(CeO2)2.5(x=0,0.25,0.50,0.75,0.85 and 1)catalysts were prepared by coprecipitation method.These mixed oxide catalysts were characterized by several physicochemical techniques,such as BET surface area(SBET),X-ray diffraction(XRD),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),temperature programmed reduction(TPR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).XRD studies show the peaks related to CuO and Co3 O4 phases in copper and cobalt containing CeO2 catalysts.The average particle size of the CeO2 crystallites is in the range of 8-10 nm as evaluated from HRTEM studies.XPS studies demonstrate that Cu,Co and Ce in(cuO)1-x(Co3O4)x/3-(CeO2)2.5 catalysts are presented in+2 and+1,+3 and+2 and+4 and+3 oxidation states,respectively.The catalyst with x=0.75 shows better activity and selectivity towards CO-PROX.Though the catalyst with only copper(CuO-CeO2,x=0)shows good activity but reverse water gas shift(RWGS)reaction is noticed at high temperature.On the other hand,RWGS reaction is suppressed on the cobalt containing CuO-ceO2 catalyst.Cobalt on CeO2 with x=1 shows hardly any activity for PRoX reaction at low temperatures.No methanation activity is observed on CuO-CeO2 or Co3O4-CeO2 catalysts.In contrast,combination of copper and cobalt on CeO2 shows methanation of CO where enhanced activity is observed with increasing in cobalt content. | Sachin Malwadkar Parthasarathi Bera C.V.V.Satyanarayana | 2020 | Journal of Rare Earths2020,38,9: | 7 |
| 4 | Molecular basis for identification of species/isolates of gastrointestinal nematode parasites显示文摘Gastrointestinal(GI) parasitism is the most serious constraint throughout the world in small ruminants which causes significant production loss in animals.GI parasites are major contributor to reduce productivity in terms of meat,milk and wool in animals.Control of GI parasite is done primarily by anthelmintic treatment where choice and schedule of treatment is done after identification and quantitation of individual parasite.Identification of GI parasites is done through microscopic method by identifying specific morphological characteristics of egg and larva(L3).Since most of parasite eggs are having similar morphological characteristics, identification up to species level through microscopy is not possible in most of cases.To address this issue,molecular techniques are the viable alternative for identification of species as well as molecular level differences within a species(isolates) of parasites.Different DNA based molecular techniques viz.PCR,AFLP,RAPD,RFLP,PCR-SSCP,real time PCR,DNA microarray etc.have been used for identification and to assess the genetic diversity among parasite population.For identification of species,the characteristic sequence of genomic DNA of different species should differ to allow the delineation of species,but at the same time,no/minor variation within the species should exist.In contrast,for purpose of identifying population variants(strains/isolates), a considerable degree of variation in the sequence should exist within a species.Various target regions,including nuclear ribosomal DNA(rDNA),mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) or repetitive DNA elements(microsatellite loci),which show considerable variation in the number of repeats within individuals have been employed to achieve the identification of parasites species or strain. | Ahmed M Singh MN Bera AK Bandyopadhyay S Bhattacharya D | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,8: | 6 |
| 5 | A comparative study of mangrove floras in China and India显示文摘Species compositions in the mangrove habitats of China and India, especially on Hainan Island (China) and on the Sundarbans and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (India), are of interest, showing several similarities and differences. The total mangrove areas of India cover about 6419 km 2 with 43 species (23 major and 20 minor species), while the mangrove areas of China cover about 150 km 2 with 26 speices (19 major and 7 minor speices). We carried out a comparison of mangrove floras in the Indian Sundarbans, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in Hainan Island. The mangrove areas of the Indian Sundarbans comprise about 66.5% of the total Indian mangroves, presently covering an area of 4267 km 2 with 35 species from 22 genera and 16 families. There are 34 species from 17 genera and 13 families in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Hainan Island is considered a distribution center of mangroves; it has the largest number of mangrove species in China, i.e., 25 species from 15 genera and 12 families, accounting for about 96% of the total number of mangrove species in China. The mangroves of Hainan Island and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands belong to island types, while those of Sundarbans belong to inter-tidal deltaic types. | 6 | First fossil evidence of Palaeocarya(Engelhardioideae:Juglandaceae)from India and its biogeographical implications显示文摘Even though presently indigenous to eastern Himalaya in India,no Engelhardioideae have been reported from the Cenozoic sediments of India till date.Here,we report the first Indian occurrence of a characteristic engelhardioid winged samaroid fruit having a tri-lobed wing(oblong-ovate median lobe and two lateral lobes)and a globose nut from the latest Neogene(Pliocene:Rajdanda Formation)sediments of Chotanagpur Plateau,eastern India.This is the first fossil evidence of relict family Juglandaceae from the Indian Cenozoic.We determine its taxonomic position on the basis of detailed macromorphological comparison with similar extant and fossil specimens and discuss its palaeoclimatic significance in terms of the present-day distribution of modern analogous species.We assign this Pliocene winged fruit specimen to the morphogenus Palaeocarya sect.Monocosta Manchester and describe it as a new species,namely Palaeocarya indica Hazra,Hazra M&Khan sp.nov.Palaeocarya sect.Monocosta has rich fossil records from the Cenozoic sediments of Europe,North America,and eastern Asia(China,Korea),but the modern analog,Engelhardia,is presently native only to India and neighboring Southeast Asia.We discuss the possible causes of disappearance of Engelhardia from the present-day vegetation of Chotanagpur Plateau.Its disappearance may be related to the gradual intensification of monsoonal rainfall seasonality since the Pliocene.Here,we also review in detail the biogeographic history of Palaeocarya sect.Monocosta and suggest its possible migration routes. | Taposhi Hazra Manoshi Hazra Sanchita Kumar Sumana Mahato Meghma Bera Subir Bera Mahasin Ali Khan | 2021 | Journal of Systematics and Evolution2021,59,6: | 3 |
| 7 | Soral Crypsis:Protective Mimicry of a Coccid on an Indian Fern显示文摘Herbivory with crypsis is not well documented in ferns. The present record of cryptic coloration of coccid Saissetia filicum Boisduval (Homoptera: Coccidae) to the sori of a fern species Asplenium nidus L. (Aspleniaceae) is unique. Predatory beetles (Jauravia sp., Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) that feed on the coccids, are suggested to be selective pressure for the development of the present homopteran soral crypsis. A higher rate of effective predation is noticed in the vegetative leaves than the fertile leaves. Aggressive ants were found harvesting honeydew secretions from the coccids and defending the trophobionts as well as the host fern from their natural enemies. In addition, a possible three-way mutualistic relationship among the coccids, its host fern and the tending ant is suggested. Differential numbers of coccids on vegetative and fertile leaves is correlated with their phenol content and degree of predation by beetles. | 13 | Variation and dispersal of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) during COVID-19 lockdown over Kolkata metropolitan city,India investigated through HYSPLIT model显示文摘The higher concentration of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) in the lower atmosphere is severely harmful for human health and it also makes visibility diminution along with weather and climate modifications.The main objective is to find out the spatiotemporal variation and dispersal of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) along with COVID-19 infection in the dusty city Kolkata.The consecutive two years PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) data of different stations have been obtained from State Pollution Control Board,Govt.of West Bengal.Forward trajectory analysis has been done through HYSPLIT(Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory)model to find the path and direction of air particles.The result showed that the various meteorological or environmental factors(such as temperature,relative humidity,wind,wind speed,pressure and gusty wind)and geographical location regulate the spatiotemporal variation of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5).These factors like high temperature with relative humidity and strong wind influence to disperse the particulate matters from north to south direction from city to outside during summer in Kolkata metropolitan city.During summer(both pre and lockdown years),the height of particles is extended up to 1000 m owing to active atmospheric ventilation whereas in winter it is confined within 100 m.The HYSPLIT model clearly specified that the particles dispersed from south,south-west to north and north east direction due to strong wind.The constant magnification of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) in the lower atmosphere leads to greater frequency of COVID-19 infections and deaths.In Kolkata,the one of the crucial reasons of high infection and deaths(COVID-19)is co-morbidity of people. | Biswajit Bera Sumana Bhattacharjee Nairita Sengupta Soumik Saha | 2022 | Geoscience Frontiers2022,13,1: | 2 |
