1Rock fragmentation control in opencast blasting显示文摘The blasting operation plays a pivotal role in the overall economics of opencast mines.The blasting subsystem affects all the other associated sub-systems,i.e.loading,transport,crushing and milling operations.Fragmentation control through effective blast design and its effect on productivity are the challenging tasks for practicing blasting engineer due to inadequate knowledge of actual explosive energy released in the borehole,varying initiation practice in blast design and its effect on explosive energy release characteristic.This paper describes the result of a systematic study on the impact of blast design parameters on rock fragmentation at three mines in India.The mines use draglines and shoveledumper combination for removal of overburden.Despite its pivotal role in controlling the overall economics of a mining operation,the expected blasting performance is often judged almost exclusively on the basis of poorly defined parameters such as powder factor and is often qualitative which results in very subjective assessment of blasting performance.Such an approach is very poor substitutes for accurate assessment of explosive and blasting performance.Ninety one blasts were conducted with varying blast designs and charging patterns,and their impacts on the rock fragmentation were documented.A high-speed camera was deployed to record the detonation sequences of the blasts.The efficiency of the loading machines was also correlated with the mean fragment size obtained from the fragmentation analyses.P.K.Singh M.P.Roy R.K.Paswan Md.Sarim Suraj Kumar Rakesh Ranjan Jha 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,2:5
2Prediction-Adaptation-Resilience(PAR)approach-A new pathway towards future resilience and sustainable development of urban landscape显示文摘Urban land-use planning,especially in the peripheral region,has become an issue in contemporary urban stud-ies.Simultaneously,urban resilience is very indispensable for future urban land use planning and management.Therefore,consistent urban proliferation can be coped through Prediction-Adaptation-Resilience(PAR),to accom-plish future urban land use and sustainable development of any growing up urban areas worldwide.Therefore,different dynamic simulation models,e.g.Cellular automata-Markov model,artificial neural network,are used to project and predict any urban areas’spatial growth.Then,the adaptation strategies are taken to assess the urban land use transformation in the past and present context.Those strategies help to strengthen urban land use planning using an integrated supply and demand chain.Finally,this study checks the resilience of how much it will be threatened or saved for future sustainable urban developmental goals and urban resilience.Therefore,it is important to establish a conceptual framework to achieve Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)based on principles of the PAR approach.Advocating the on-going adaptation of sustainability,resilience,and rapid urban transformation in the developing cities requires clear and explicit definitions that are embedded with the recent and particular context.Thus,government and policy makers should draw their attention to make proper urban landscape planning and adaptation strategies for the future urban expansion in a holistic way by maintaining appropriate urban resilience.Suraj Kumar Mallick 2021Geography and Sustainability2021,2,2:3
3Assessment of surface and subsurface waterlogging, water level fluctuations, and lithological variations for evaluating groundwater resources in Ganga Plains显示文摘In the present study,the multi-temporal satellite images of IRS P6 LISS III were used to map waterlogging dynamics over different seasons.An area of 594.36 km2(6.75%)and 4.17 km^(2)(0.04%)was affected by surface waterlogging during pre and postmonsoon season,respectively.The average annual groundwater level fluctuations were calculated using 18 years(1990-2007)pre and postmonsoon groundwater level data to identify the areas which are under groundwater induced waterlogging conditions.The soil map clearly indicates that salinity and sodicity exhibit the highest severity and occur in areas with shallow groundwater levels.The hydrogeomorphical units mapped using IRS P6 LISS III satellite images are flood plain,alluvial plain,paleochannels,and oxbow lakes.The study revealed that 44.65%areas have very good to excellent groundwater resources.The litholog data clearly indicate an alternating sequence of clay and sand in which deep aquifers made up of coarse sand would be best suited for adequate water supply and good groundwater quality.The integrated study utilizing digital spatial data pertaining to waterlogging,soil salinity,water level fluctuation,and lithological variation proved that planning of any surface and subsurface water resources development activity should be taken up after assessments of said parameters.Arvind Chandra Pandey Suraj Kumar Singh M.S.Nathawat Dipankar Saha 2013International Journal of Digital Earth2013,6,3:1

5Development of a drill energy utilization index for aiding selection of drill machines in surface mines显示文摘Drill machines used in surface mines, particularly in coal, is characterized by a very poor utilization(around 40%) and low availability(around 60%). The main purpose of this study is to develop a drill selection methodology and simultaneously a performance evaluation technique based on drill cuttings produced and drilling rate achieved. In all 28 blast drilled through were investigated. The drilling was accomplished by 5 different drill machines of Ingersoll-Rand and Revathi working in coal mines of Sonepur Bazari(SECL) and Block-II(BCCL). The drills are Rotary and Rotary Percussive type using tricone rock roller bits. Drill cuttings were collected and sieve analysis was done in the laboratory. Using Rosin Ramler Diagram, coarseness index(CI), mean chip size(d), specific-surface area(SSA) and characteristic particle size distribution curves for all the holes drilled were plotted. The predictor equation for drill penetration rate established through multiple regressions was found to have a very good correlation with an index of determination of 0.85. A comparative analysis of particle size distribution curves was used to evaluate the drill efficiency. The suggested approach utilises the area under the curve, after the point of trend reversal and brittleness ratio of the respective bench to arrive at drill energy utilization index(DEUI), for mapping of drill machine to bench. 11Estimation of drift limits for different seismic damage states of RC frame staging in elevated water tanks using Park and Ang damage index显示文摘Damage to elevated water tanks in past earthquakes can be attributed to the poor performance of their supporting frame staging. In order to ascertain the performance of these elevated water tanks, it is crucial to categorize the damage in quantifiable damage states. Among various parameters to quantify the damage states, the top drift of frame staging can be conveniently correlated to the different damage levels. In literature, drift limits corresponding to different damage states of the frame staging of the elevated water tank are not available. In the present study, drift limits for RC frame staging in elevated water tanks corresponding to different seismic damage states have been proposed. Various damage states of the elevated water tank have been determined using the Park and Ang damage index. The Park and Ang damage index utilizes results of both pushover analysis and incremental dynamic analysis. Twelve models of elevated water tanks have been developed considering variation in staging height and tank capacity. Incremental dynamic analysis has been performed using the suite of twelve actual earthquake ground motions. 12COVID-19 presenting as complete heart block:A case report显示文摘Rationale:COVID-19 has a wide range of clinical presentations requiring a high index of suspicion for diagnosing patients presenting with extrapulmonary manifestations.Among them,patients with cardiovascular involvement have a high mortality.Patient’s concerns:A 50-year-old male patient with COVID-19 infection presented with multiple syncopal episodes,myalgia,and mild respiratory symptoms.Diagnosis:Mild COVID-19 infection with complete heart block.Interventions:Temporary pacing followed by permanent pacemaker insertion 10 days after the onset.Outcomes:The patient was managed as per COVID-19 protocol in an isolation ward,and his condition improved but remained pacemaker dependent until a repeat RT-PCR for COVID-19 tested negative,after which he was shifted back to the cardiac care unit for permanent pacemaker insertion.The patient was discharged after inflammatory markers were normal and clinical condition was completely stable.Lessons:COVID-19 has a wide range of clinical presentations,and extrapulmonary manifestations,especially,cardiovascular involvement can not be ignored.Jyoti Aggarwal Amtoj Singh Lamba Saurabh Gaba Monica Gupta Suraj Kumar Arora 2021Journal of Acute Disease2021,10,6:0

14Generation scenarios of anodic structures and experimental realization of turbulence in unmagnetized plasma显示文摘In the present work,we report development of a DC glow discharge plasma(GDP)set-up to study controlled evolution of anodic structures having distinctive geometry,size and layers,generated in front of a positively biased electrode,submerged in unmagnetized plasma.For such an anodic structure,we have also investigated the condition under which the turbulence is triggered.Characteristic of these structures,generated in front of a positively biased electrode,depends on multiple parameters such as the ratio of anode to cathode size,electrode separation,gas pressure,biasing configuration such as anode bias,cathode bias and grounding schemes.We attempted to classify different anodic structures observed experimentally,as anode glow,fireball,anode spot,double layer and multiple double layers(MDLs)based on its physical characteristics.Among these structures the present investigation is focused on MDLs.The number of layers,observed in MDLs varied from as high as six to as low as zero,by controlling the operating discharge parameters,externally.Diagnostics were carried out using Langmuir probe.The analysis of floating potential fluctuations corresponds to a multiple anodic structure showed emergence of turbulence,at its critical stage,satisfying condition for self-organized criticality(SOC).This was identified with three slopes observed in the power spectrum,resembling the sand-pile model.Though,the GDP is completely different from that of the magnetically confined plasma,the nature of turbulence observed with SOC,is very similar to that observed in the scrape of layer of fusion devices.Therefore,the present investigation could provide new approach to study turbulence of similar nature,under an experimental condition that is free from the complexities of complicated field geometries used in confinement devices.Prince ALEX Suraj Kumar SINHA 2020Plasma Science and Technology2020,22,8:0
15Feedback model of secondary electron emission in DC gas discharge plasmas显示文摘Feedback is said to exist in any amplifier when the fraction of output power in fed back as an input.Similarly,in gaseous discharge ions that incident on the cathode act as a natural feedback element to stabilize and self sustain the discharge.The present investigation is intended to emphasize the feedback nature of ions that emits secondary electrons(SEs)from the cathode surface in DC gas discharges.The average number of SEs emitted per incident ion and non ionic species(energetic neutrals,metastables and photons)which results from ion is defined as effective secondary electronemission coefficient(ESEEC,_Eg).In this study,we derive an analytic expression that corroborates the relation between_Eg and power influx by ion to the cathode based on the feedback theory of an amplifier.In addition,experimentally,we confirmed the typical positive feedback nature of SEEfrom the cathode in argon DC glow discharges.The experiment is done for three different cathode material of same dimension(tungsten(W),copper(Cu)and brass)under identical discharge conditions(pressure:0.45 mbar,cathode bias:-600 V,discharge gab:15 cm and operating gas:argon).Further,we found that the_Eg value of these cathode material controls the amount of feedback power given by ions.The difference in feedback leads different final output i.e the power carried by ion at cathode(P_i _C¢∣).The experimentally obtained value of P_i _C¢∣is 4.28 W,6.87 W and9.26 W respectively for W,Cu and brass.In addition,the present investigation reveals that the amount of feedback power in a DC gas discharges not only affect the fraction of power fed back to the cathode but also the entire characteristics of the discharge.Saravanan ARUMUGAM Prince ALEX Suraj Kumar SINHA 2018Plasma Science and Technology2018,20,2:0
16Assessing the impacts of current and future changes of the planforms of river Brahmaputra on its land use-land cover显示文摘River bankline migration is a frequent phenomenon in the river of the floodplain region.Nowadays,channel dynamics-related changes in land use and land cover(LULC)are becoming a risk to the life and property of people living in the vicinity of rivers.A comprehensive evaluation of the causes and consequences of such changes is essential for better policy and decision-making for disaster risk reduction and management.The present study assesses the changes in the Brahmaputra River planform using the GIS-based Digital Shoreline Analysis System(DSAS)and relates it with the changing LULC of the floodplain evaluated using the CA-Markov model.In this study,the future channel of the Brahmaputra River and its flood plain’s future LULC were forecasted to pinpoint the erosion-vulnerable zone.Forty-eight years(1973–2021)of remotely sensed data were applied to estimate the rate of bankline migration.It was observed that the river’s erosion-accretion rate was higher in early times than in more recent ones.The left and right banks’average shifting rates between 1973 and 1988 were -55.44 m/y and -56.79 m/y,respectively,while they were-17.25 m/y and -48.49 m/y from 2011 to 2021.The left bank of the river Brahmaputra had more erosion than the right,which indicates that the river is shifting in the leftward direction(Southward).In this river course,zone A(Lower course)and zone B(Middle course)were more adversely affected than zone C(Upper course).According to the predicted result,the left bank is more susceptible to bank erosion than the right bank(where the average rate of erosion and deposition was -72.23 m/y and 79.50 m/y,respectively).The left bank’s average rate of erosion was -111.22 m/y.The research assesses the LULC study in conjunction with river channel dynamics in vulnerable areas where nearby infrastructure and settlements were at risk due to channel migration.The degree of accu-racy was verified using the actual bankline and predicted bankline,as well as the actual LULC map and anticipated LULC map.In more than 90% of cases,the bankline’s position and shape generally remain the same as the actual bankline.The overall,and kappa accuracy of all the LULC maps was more than 85%,which was suitable for the forecast.Moreover,chi-square(x^(2))result values for classified classes denoted the accuracy and acceptability of the CA-Markov model for predicting the LULC map.The results of this work aim to understand better the efficient hazard management strategy for the Brahmaputra River for hazard managers of the region using an automated prediction approach.Jatan Debnath Dhrubajyoti Sahariah Durlov Lahon Nityaranjan Nath Kesar Chand Gowhar Meraj Pankaj Kumar Suraj Kumar Singh Shruti Kanga Majid Farooq 2023Geoscience Frontiers2023,14,4:0
17Effect of kinesiotaping over medications on primary dysmenorrhea among nulligravida women-a randomized clinical control trail显示文摘Background:Dysmenorrhea is cramping pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis during menstruation.It is the most common gynecologic problem for all ages and racial women.The objective of the study is to find the efficacy of kinesio taping among nulligravida women with dysmenorrhea on pain and functional independence.Methods:A total of 115 patients attending the Obstetrics and Gynecology outpatient department were screened and 66 subjects after satisfying inclusion criteria were recruited and randomly divided into two groups,Group A(control)(n=32)and Group B(Experimental)(n=34)by computerized randomization after attaining written consent.Group A received single day dose of pain-relieving medications containing Dicyclominee(10 mg)and Mefenamic acid(250 mg)administered three times a day on the recommendation of a gynecologist.Group B was applied kinesio taping for three days starting from the day of menstruation.Global pain scale(GPS)was used to assess the pain and functional independence,pre-intervention,12 hours,24 hours and,48 hours after the intervention.Results:There was improvement in both the groups in pain and functional independence.But experimental group demonstrated higher GPS scores when compared to Control group,however,the results are not statistically significant at P<0.05.Conclusion:From the results attained,this study concludes that kinesiotaping alleviates pain due to primary dysmenorrhea and improves functional independence.Vaibhav Kanti Suraj Kumar Gowrishankar Potturi Vandana Annapurna 2022TMR Non-Drug Therapy2022,5,2:0
18Design and Numerical Investigation to Predict the FlowPattern of Non-axisymmetric Convergent Nozzle:AComponent of Turboexpander显示文摘Current work proposes a novel design methodology using curve-fitting approach for a non-axisymmetric airfoil convergent nozzle used in small-sized cryogenic turboexpander.The curves used for designing the nozzle are based on a combination of fifth and third order curve at upper and lower surface respectively.Four different turbulence model such as k-ε,SST,BSL and SSG Reynolds stress turbulence model is used to visualize and compare the fluid flow characteristics and thermal behaviors at various cross-sections.It is interesting to observe that the Mach number obtained at the outlet of the nozzle is highest and temperature drop is maximum for SSG model under similar boundary conditions.It is also observed that the designed nozzle with curve fitting approach is appropriate for impulse type turbine with a small amount of reaction.The key feature of this implementation is to obtain subsonic velocity at the nozzle exit and reduce the irreversible losses through the nozzle,which can affect the performance of a turboexpander.Manoj Kumar Debashis Panda Rasmikanti Biswal Suraj Kumar Behera Ranjit Kumar Sahoo 2019Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering2019,7,6:0

20Changes in post-keratoplasty astigmatism after suture removal:refraction vs tomography vs aberrometry显示文摘AIM:To analyse the changes in magnitude and orientation of astigmatism after suture removal(SR)in keratoplasty eyes as measured by refraction,tomography,and aberrometry.METHODS:Twenty-six eyes of 25 patients after optical keratoplasty requiring SR to reduce the astigmatism during the follow-up period were prospectively included.Eyes with poor quality topography scans or if there were no sutures in the steepest semi meridian were excluded.Corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),manifest refraction,corneal tomography and aberrometr y were per formed on all patients before and after SR.RESULTS:The mean age of the patients was 40.8±14.4 y.Penetrating keratoplasty was performed in 23 eyes(89%)and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty was done in 3 eyes(11%).There was a statistically significant reduction in the magnitude of refractive,tomographic and aberrometry astigmatism after SR(P<0.001)at 2 h after suture removal.The mean net reduction of the astigmatism was greater as measured by corneal tomography compared to refractive astigmatism(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant change in refractive astigmatism between 2 h and 2 mo after SR(P=0.55).Vector calculations demonstrated a greater amount of undercorrection in the tomography group and the rotational error was more towards counterclockwise direction.Mean monocular log MAR CDVA improved from 0.57 D to 0.49 D after SR(P=0.002).CONCLUSION:The net reduction in the magnitude of astigmatism after SR is greater in the tomography and aberrometry groups.With one episode of SR,there is no difference in the aberration profile.Suraj Kumar Chaurasiya Jagadesh C.Reddy Pravin K.Vaddavalli Christopher J.Rapuano 2021International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,11:0
