1Caspase-3 activation as a bifurcation point between plasticity and cell death显示文摘Death-mediating proteases such as caspases and caspase-3 in particular,have been implicated in neurodegenerative processes,aging and Alzheimer's disease.However,emerging evidence suggests that in addition to their classical role in cell death,caspases play a key role in modulating synaptic function.It is remarkable that active caspases-3,which can trigger widespread damage and degeneration,aggregates in structures as delicate as synapses and persists in neurons without causing acute cell death.Here,we evaluate this dichotomy,and discuss the hypothesis that caspase-3 may be a bifurcation point in cellular signaling,able to orient the neuronal response to stress down either pathological/apoptotic pathways or towards physiological cellular remodeling.We propose that temporal,spatial and other regulators of caspase activity are key determinants of the ultimate effect of caspase-3 activation in neurons.This concept has implications for differential roles of caspase-3 activation across the lifespan.Specifically,we propose that limited caspase-3 activation is critical for synaptic function in the healthy adult brain while chronic activation is involved in degenerative processes in the aging brain.Shikha Snigdha Erica D Smith G Aleph Prieto Carl W Cotman 2012Neuroscience Bulletin2012,28,1:91

5关于中国土壤碳库及固碳潜力研究的若干问题显示文摘土壤碳库研究及碳汇问题是近年来土壤碳循环与全球变化研究的热点领域.本文回顾了中国土壤碳库估算的研究成果,分析了我国土壤碳库在气候变化下的演变态势,并探讨了土壤有机碳矿化与温室气体的释放问题.整合已有的研究资料,可以认为中国土壤总有机碳库接近90Pg,无机碳库约为60Pg,农田土壤已有的固碳速率在20~25Tg/a水平.农田土壤固碳的理论容量可以达到2.0Pg水平,但农业技术的实施能够实现的技术潜力可能仅为理论潜力的1/3左右.因此,改善土壤管理和农田经营机制可能是提高土壤固碳技术潜力的关键.土壤固碳中有机碳积累并不表现出分解的敏感性,固碳显得有利于提高农田生产力和改善生态系统功能,一些农田综合温室气体排放的生命周期评价的案例研究反而显示有机质积累下农业生产的碳排放强度没有提高甚而降低.未来中国土壤碳库研究的重点发展方向在于:(1)以流域为尺度和地球表层系统为对象的系统固碳与碳汇研究;(2)生态系统土壤碳固定与稳定机制,特别是土壤固碳与生产力和生态服务功能的协同机理和多界面过程.中国土壤碳科学将面临多学科集成和多目标服务的新发展机遇.郑聚锋 程琨 潘根兴 SMITH Pete 李恋卿 张旭辉 郑金伟 韩晓君 杜彦玲 2011科学通报2011,56,26:52
6哪些凝血标志物可以增加传统危险因素对冠心病和缺血性中风的预测价值?Caerphilly研究显示文摘背景:目前鲜有研究证实,凝血标志物是否可以独立于传统危险因素与患冠心病和缺血性中风相关。本研究对11个反映凝血过程不同方面的标志物进行研究,以期发现在排除传统危险因素的作用之后,它们是否仍有预测价值。 方法与结果:在1984~1988年间,共2398名49~65岁男子接受检查,他们中大部分人采取了空腹血测定血脂和凝血标志物。对他们进行了平均13年的随访,记录了心血管事件(cardiovascular disease,CVD)发生情况。共发生486起心血管事件,353起新发生冠心病,133起新发生缺血性中风。经单变量分析,发现纤维蛋白原、低活化蛋白C值、D-二聚体、组织性纤溶酶原(tPA)、纤溶酶原激活物抑制物-1(PAI-1)都显著与CVD相关。将传统危险因素引入比例风险模型后,采用多变量分析方法,发现纤维蛋白原、D-二聚体、纤溶酶原激活物抑制物-1都显著与CVD相关,并且因子VIIc呈负相关(P=0.001)。在纳入传统危险因素的模型中,预先不存在CVD者,若具有预期风险构成最高3种的危险因素,则其发生CVD的风险是具有最低3位者的2.7倍。当模型包括4个凝血相关因素时,此值升至3.7倍。 结论:除传统的危险因素外,纤维蛋白原、D-二聚体、纤溶酶原激活物抑制物-1活性、因子VIIc均有预测中年男性的冠心病\缺血性中风发生的作用。Smith A 秦春常 2005中国分子心脏病学杂志2005,5,6:43
7美国临床肿瘤学会IV期非小细胞肺癌化疗的临床实践指南更新显示文摘本文旨在为IV期非小细胞肺癌患者的治疗提供更新版推荐。本文资料检索源自2002年以来公布的相关随机试验文献。此指南范围限于化疗与生物治疗。更新委员会对这些文献进行了总结并提供了推荐更新。162篇文献符合标准被纳入参考。本推荐基于可改善总生存期的治疗方法。仅改善无进展生存期的治疗方法推动了对毒性及生存质量的监测。对于体力状态评分为0分或1分患者的一线治疗,可推荐以铂类为基础的细胞毒性药物的两药联用。对铂类治疗有禁忌的患者,可采用非铂类细胞毒性两药联合。对于体力状态评分为2分的患者,单一细胞毒性药物即可。对于疾病进展或经过4个周期的治疗仍对治疗无反应的患者,应停止一线细胞毒性化疗。即使在6个周期后患者对治疗仍有反应,亦应停止两药细胞毒性化疗。对于伴有明确的表皮生长因子受体(epidermal growth factor receptor,EGFR)突变的患者,可推荐一线采用吉非替尼治疗;对于EGFR突变为阴性或不明确的患者,细胞毒性化疗更佳。除具有特定临床特征的患者外,可推荐贝伐单抗与卡铂-紫杉醇联用。对于通过免疫组化证实EGFR阳性的肿瘤患者,可推荐西妥昔单抗与顺铂-长春瑞滨联用。多西紫杉醇、厄洛替尼、吉非替尼或培美曲塞被推荐作为二线治疗。对于未曾接受过厄洛替尼或吉非替尼治疗的患者,可推荐厄洛替尼作为三线治疗。现有数据不足以推荐常规三线采用细胞毒性药物。已有的证据也不足以推荐常规应用分子标记物选择化疗。Christopher G. 8Pyogenic liver abscess:An audit of 10 years’experience显示文摘AIM:To describe our own experience with pyogenic liver abscesses over the past 10 years and investigate the risk factors associated with failure of initial percutaneous therapy.METHODS:A retrospective study of records of 63 PLA patients presenting between 1998 and 2008 to Australian tertiary referral centre,were reviewed.Amoebic and hydatid abscesses were excluded.Demographic,clinical,radiological,and microbiological characteristics,as well as surgical/radiological interventions,were recorded.RESULTS:Sixty-three patients(42 males,21 females) aged 65(±14) years[mean±(SD) ]had prodromal symptoms for a median(interquartile range;IQR) of 7(5-14) d.Only 59%of patients were febrile at presentation;however,the serum C-reactive protein was elevated in all 47 in whom it was measured.Liver function tests were non-specifically abnormal.67%of patients had a solitary abscess,while 32%had>3 abscesses with a median(IQR) diameter of 6.3(4-9) cm.Causative organisms were:Streptococcus milleri 25%,Klebsiella pneumoniae 21%,and Escherichia coli 16%.A presumptive cryptogenic cause was most common (34%).Four patients died in this series:one from sepsis,two from advanced cancer,and one from acute myocardial infarction.The initial procedure was radiological aspiration±drainage in 54 and surgery in two patients.17%underwent surgical management during their hospitalization.Serum hypoalbuminaemia[mean (95%CI) :32(29-35) g/L vs 28(25-31) g/L,P=0.045] on presentation was found to be the only factor related to failure of initial percutaneous therapy on univariate analysis.CONCLUSION:PLA is a diagnostic challenge,because the presentation of this condition is non-specific.Intravenous antibiotics and radiological drainage in the first instance allows resolution of most PLAs;However,a small proportion of patients still require surgical drainage.Tony CY Pang Thomas Fung Jaswinder Samra Thomas J Hugh Ross C Smith 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,12:46

13Endonasal transsphenoidal removal of tuberculum sellae meningiomas: technical note(英文)显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Tuberculum sellae meningiomas traditionally have been removed through a transcranial approach. More recently, the sublabial transsphenoidal approach has been used to remove such tumors. Here, we describe use of the direct endonasal transsphenoidal approach for removal of suprasellar meningiomas. METHODS: Three women, aged 32, 34, and 55 years, each sought treatment for visual loss and headaches. In each patient, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a suprasellar mass causing optic chiasmal and optic nerve compression (average size, 2cm x2 cm). 15Antimicrobial susceptibility testing for Helicobacter pylori in times of increasing antibiotic resistance显示文摘The gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)causes chronic gastritis,gastric and duodenal ulcers,gastric cancer and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma.Treatment is recommended in all symptomatic patients.The current treatment options for H.pylori infection are outlined in this review in light of the recent challenges in eradication success,largely due to the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistant strains of H.pylori.Antibiotic resistance is a constantly evolving process and numerous studies have shown that the prevalence of H.pylori antibiotic resistance varies significantly from country to country,and even between regions within the same country.In addition,recent data has shown that previous antibiotic use is associated with harbouring antibiotic resistant H.pylori.Local surveillance of antibiotic resistance is warranted to guide clinicians in their choice of therapy.Antimicrobial resistance is assessed by H.pylori culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.Recently developed molecular tests offer an attractive alternative to culture and allow for the rapid molecular genetic identification of H.pylori and resistance-associated mutations directly from biopsy samples or bacterial culture material.Accumulating evidence indicates that surveillance of antimicrobial resistance by susceptibility testing is feasible and necessary to inform clinicians in their choice of therapy for management of H.pylori infection.Sinéad M Smith Colm O’Morain Deirdre McNamara 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,29:40
16英国农业面源污染防控对我国的启示显示文摘当前,世界范围内正面临着粮食增产与维护和改善农业生态环境质量的挑战,治理面源污染是其中的重要内容。通过对英国面源污染治理的防治技术、技术推广体系和相关政策措施方面的系统整理和分析,就我国相应工作提出建议和对策。结合我国当前一控两减三基本的农业资源和环境对策,今后应主要通过源头控制和过程拦截两种手段,注重化肥的减量优化以及有机无机配合使用,强调土地利用管理、农业结构调整以及种养结合,开发和实施符合各地实际情况的面源污染防控技术和措施。发挥非政府形式技术服务体系在面源污染防控中的重要作用,利用政府补贴、生态补偿等经济手段鼓励农户和农业企业主动防控氮磷物质的损失和对水土系统的污染。相关技术文件和规定应更加具体、明确、具有更好的操作性,依托现代信息手段等进行面源污染数据的收集、传输和分析,并在政策制定过程中统筹考虑。将面源污染纳入国家经济和社会发展的总体规划,与产业优化、经济发展指标完善等宏观政策统一,逐步提升生态文明的建设质量,促进我国社会和经济的可持续发展。刘坤 任天志 吴文良 孟凡乔 Jessica Bellarby Laurence Smith 2016农业环境科学学报2016,35,5:34

Despite over a hundred years of treating this condition the definition, diagnosis, pathology and most efficacious treatments are still largely unclear. This systematic review of current treatments for frozen shoulder reviews the evidence base behind physiotherapy, both oral and intra articular steroid, hydrodilatation, manipulation under anaesthesia and arthroscopic capsular release. 18Synthesis, properties, and applications of graphene oxide/reduced graphene oxide and their nanocomposites显示文摘Thanks to their remarkable mechanical, electrical, thermal, and barrier properties, graphene-based nanocomposites have been a hot area of research in the past decade. Because of their simple top-down synthesis, graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) have opened new possibilities for gas barrier, membrane separation, and stimuli-response characteristics in nanocomposites. Herein, we review the synthesis techniques most commonly used to produce these graphene derivatives, discuss how synthesis affects their key material properties, and highlight some examples of nanocomposites with unique and impressive properties. We specifically highlight their performances in separation applications, stimuli-responsive materials, anti-corrosion coatings, and energy storage. Finally, we discuss the outlook and remaining challenges in the field of practical industrial-scale production and use of graphene-derivative-based polymer nanocomposites.Andrew T. 20Phylogenetic reconstruction of Chirita and allies (Gesneriaceae) with taxonomic treatments显示文摘Chirita D. Don, a large genus in the subfamily Cyrtandroideae of Gesneriaceae, has been the subject of much debate whether it is a natural group or not. In addition, the highly heterogeneous Chirita has also been very problematic with regard to delimitation and subdivision. Here we used the nrDNA internal transcribed spacer and cpDNA trnL-F for molecular phylogenetic analaysis, combined with morphological data. Our results suggest that Chirita is an artificial, polyphyletic genus. The most important character that defines Chirita, the dorso-ventrally oblique and bilamellar stigma, has evolved convergently in different clades of diandrous Cyrtandroideae. Chirita sensu stricto only includes the species of Chirita sect. Chirita, whereas Chirita sect. Microchirita is an independent clade located at the basal node of the phylogenetic tree. Chirita sect. Liebigia is closely related to Didymocarpus with an entire stigma unlike other species of Chirita. The species of Chirita sect. Gibbosaccus, Chiritopsis, Primulina, and Wentsaiboea form a monophyletic group that is sister to a strongly supported clade comprising four monotypic genera Paralagarosolen, Calcareoboea, Petrocodon, and Tengia.
