| 2 | Cycloastragenol upregulates SIRT1 expression,attenuates apoptosis and suppresses neuroinflammation after brain ischemia显示文摘Cycloastragenol(CAG)is the active form of astragaloside V isolated from Astragalus Radix,which displays multiple pharmacological effects.Silent information regulator 1(SIRT1),a classll histone deacetylase,has been shown to play an important role in neuroprotection against cerebral ischemia.In this study,we investigated whether CAG protected against ischemic brain injury and,if so,whether the beneficial effects were associated with the regulation of SIRT1 in the ischemic brain.Mice were subjected to 45 min of middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)followed by reperfusion.CAG(5,10,20 mg/kg)was injected intraperitoneally at the onset of reperfusion,12h later and then twice daily for up to three days.CAG dose-dependently reduced brain infarct volume,significantly ameliorated functional deficits,and prevented neuronal cell oss in MCAO mice.Meanwhile,CAG signicantly reduced matrix metalloproteinase-9 activity,prevented tight junction degradation and subsequently ameliorated blood-brain barier disruption.Moreover,CAG significantly upregulated SIRT1 expression in the ischemic brain but did not directly activate its enzymatic activity.Concomitant with SIRT1 upregulation,CAG reduced p53 acetylation and the ratio of Bax to Bcl-2 in the ischemic brain.CAG also inhibited NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation.As a result,CAG suppressed the mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines,including TNF-α and IL-1β,and inhibited the activation of microglia and astrocytes in the ischemic brain.Our findings suggest that CAG is neuroprotective against ischemic brain injury in mice and that its beneficial effect may involve SIRT1 upregulation and the inhibition of apoptosis and neuroinflammation in the ischemic brain. | Man Li Shichun Li Bao-kai Dou Yving-xiang Zou Hao-zhen Han Dong-xiang Liu Zunji Ke Zhi-fei Wang | 2020 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,8: | 22 |
| 3 | A preliminary investigation on the occurrence and distribution of antibiotic resistance genes in the Beijiang River, South China显示文摘The occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) was investigated and quantified in 20 water samples collected in the Beijiang River, South China. Sulfonamide- and tetracycline-resistant bacteria were present in 17 and 14 of the collected 20 samples. For sulfonamide ARGs, sulI and sulII were frequently observed in the Beijiang River. The levels of sulI were higher than sulII (p < 0.05), with the mean values of (1.41 ± 1.12) × 10-2 and (1.58 ± 1.71) × 10-3 copies/16S rDNA, respectively. For tetracycline ARGs, tetG had the highest frequency, 100%, followed by tetA (85%), tetO (85%), tetC (70%), tetX (60%), tetM (40%) and tetQ (20%), while tetE and tetS were not detected in all the samples from the Beijiang River. On the other hand, tetC had the highest concentration, ranging from 8.30 × 10-2 to 13.20 copies/16S rDNA. The poor correlation between ARGs and antibiotic concentrations revealed that the self-amplification and persistence of ARGs were the reasons that made ARGs exist in the water environment even though the antibiotic selecting pressure was absent. | 4 | Effects of Al_2O_3 Nano-additive on Performance of Micro-arc Oxidation Coatings Formed on AZ91D Mg Alloy显示文摘Ceramic coatings were prepared on AZ91 D Mg alloy by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) in aluminate electrolytes,with Al_2O_3 nano-additive suspending at different concentrations.Effects of nano-additive concentration on the structure,phase composition,hardness and anti-corrosion property of the MAO coatings were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,micro-hardness test and electrochemical method,respectively.The results revealed that Al_2O_3 nano-particles were mostly incorporated into ceramic coating chemically,transferred into MgAl_2O_4,rather than being trapped mechanically during MAO process.With the increase of Al_2O_3 concentration,the voltage-time response,content of MgAl_2O_4,hardness and anti-corrosion property increased.However,when the concentration varied from 10 g/L to 15 g/L,these behaviors and properties changed only a little.This result indicated that,after the concentration of Al_2O_3 nano-additive reaching 10 g/L,the incorporation of Al_2O_3 nano-particles turned into a saturation state,due to the complex process during MAO treatment.Therefore,10 g/L might be a proper concentration for MAO coating to incorporate Al_2O_3 nano-particles. | Yan Wang Dongbo Wei Jie Yu Shichun Di | 2014 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,10: | 18 |
| 5 | Mantle geochemistry: Insights from ocean island basalts显示文摘The geochemical study of the Earth's mantle provides important constraints on our understanding of the formation and evolution of Earth, its internal structure, and the mantle dynamics. The bulk Earth composition is inferred by comparing terrestrial mantle rocks with chondrites, which leads to the chondritic Earth model. That is, Earth has the same relative proportions of refractory elements as that in chondrites, but it is depleted in volatiles. Ocean island basalts(OIB) may be produced by mantle plumes with possible deep origins; consequently, they provide unique opportunity to study the deep Earth. Isotopic variations within OIB can be described using a limited number of mantle endmembers, such as EM1, EM2 and HIMU, and they have been used to decipher important mantle processes. Introduction of crustal material into the deep mantle via subduction and delamination is important in generating mantle heterogeneity; however, there is active debate on how they were sampled by mantle melting, i.e.,the role of olivine-poor lithologies in the OIB petrogenesis. The origin and location of high 3He/4He mantle remain controversial,ranging from unprocessed(or less processed) primitive material in the lower mantle to highly processed materials with shallow origins, including ancient melting residues, mafic cumulates under arcs, and recycled hydrous minerals. Possible core-mantle interaction was hypothesized to introduce distinctive geochemical signatures such as radiogenic 186 Os and Fe and Ni enrichment in the OIB. | 8 | A two-step lineage reprogramming strategy to generate functionally competent human hepatocytes from fibroblasts显示文摘Terminally differentiated cells can be generated by lineage reprogramming,which is,however,hindered by incomplete conversion with residual initial cell identity and partial functionality. Here, we demonstrate a new reprogramming strategy by mimicking the natural regeneration route, which permits generating expandable hepatic progenitor cells and functionally competent human hepatocytes. Fibroblasts were first induced into human hepatic progenitor-like cells (hHPLCs), which could robustly expand in vitro and efficiently engraft in vivo. Moreover, hHPLCs could be efficiently induced into mature human hepatocytes (hiHeps) in vitro, whose molecular identity highly resembles primary human hepatocytes (PHHs). Most importantly, hiHeps could be generated in large quantity and were functionally competent to replace PHHs for drug-metabolism estimation, toxicity prediction and hepatitis B virus infection modeling. Our results highlight the advantages of the progenitor stage for successful lineage reprogramming. | 10 | Defects enriched hollow porous Co-N-doped carbons embedded with ultrafine CoFe/Co nanoparticles as bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst for rechargeable flexible solid zinc-air batteries显示文摘The construction and design of highly efficient and inexpensive bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts substitute for noble-metal-based catalysts is highly desirable for the development of rechargeable Zn-air battery(ZAB).In this work,a bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts of based on ultrafine CoFe alloy(4-5 nm)dispersed in defects enriched hollow porous Co-N-doped carbons,made by annealing SiO2 coated zeolitic imidazolate framework-67(ZIF-67)encapsulated Fe ions.The hollow porous structure not only exposed the active sites inside ZIF-67,but also provided efficient charge and mass transfer.The strong synergetic coupling among high-density CoFe alloys and Co-N_(x) sites in Co,N-doped carbon species ensures high oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)activity.First-principles simulations reveal that the synergistic promotion effect between CoFe alloy and Co-N site effectively reduced the formation energy of from O^(*)to OH^(*).The optimized CoFe-Co@PNC exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic stability and activity with the overpotential of only 320 mV for OER at 10 mA·cm^(−2) and the half-wave potential of 0.887 V for ORR,outperforming that of most recent reported bifunctional electrocatalysts.A rechargeable ZAB constructed with CoFe-Co@PNC as the air cathode displays long-term cyclability for over 200 h and high power density(152.8 mW·cm^(−2)).Flexible solid-state ZAB with our CoFe-Co@PNC as the air cathode possesses a high open circuit potential(OCP)up to 1.46 V as well as good bending flexibility.This universal structure design provides an attractive and instructive model for the application of nanomaterials derived from MOF in the field of sustainable flexible energy applications device. | Zhao Lei Yangyang Tan Zeyi Zhang Wei Wu Niancai Cheng Runzhe Chen Shichun Mu Xueliang Sun | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,3: | 9 |

| 13 | Characteristics and Cause Analysis of Heavy Haze in Changchun City in Northeast China显示文摘Northeast China has been reported as having serious air pollution in China with increasing occurrences of severe haze episodes. Changchun City, as the center of Northeast China, has longstanding industry and is an important agricultural base. Additionally, Changchun City has a long winter requiring heating of buildings emitting pollution into the air. These factors contribute to the complexity of haze pollution in this area. In order to analyze the causes of heavy haze, surface air quality has been monitored from 2013 to 2015. By using satellite and meteorological data, atmospheric pollution status, spatio-temporal variations and formation have been analyzed. Results indicated that the air quality in 88.9% of days exceeding air quality index(AQI) level-1 standard(AQI >50) according to the National Ambient Air Quality Standard(NAAQS) of China. Conversely, 33.7% of the days showed a higher level with AQI > 100. Extreme haze events(AQI > 300) occurred frequently during agricultural harvesting period(from October 10 to November 10), intensive winter heating period(from Late-December to February) and period of spring windblown dust(April and May). Most daily concentrations of gaseous pollutants, i.e., NO_2(43.8 μg/m^3), CO(0.9 mg/m^3), SO_2(37.9 μg/m^3), and O_3(74.9 μg/m^3) were evaluated within level-1 concentration limits of NAAQS standards. However, particulate matter(PM_(2.5) and PM10) concentrations(67.3 μg/m^3 and 115.2 μg/m^3, respectively) were significantly higher than their level-1 limits. Severe haze in spring was caused by offsite transported dust and windblown surface soil. Heavy haze periods during fall and winter were mainly formed by intensive emissions of atmospheric pollutants and steady weather conditions(i.e., low wind speed and inversion layer). The overlay emissions of widespread straw burning and coal combustion for heating were the dominant factors contributing to haze in autumn, while intensive coal burning during the coldest time was the primary component of total emissions. In addition, general emissions including automobile exhaust, road and construction dust, residential and industrial activities, have significantly increased in recent years, making heavy haze a more frequent occurrence. | 14 | Regional Characteristics and Causes of Haze Events in Northeast China显示文摘Northeast China experiences severe atmospheric pollution, with an increasing occurrence of heavy haze episodes. However, the underlying forces driving haze formation during different seasons are poorly understood. In this study, we explored the spatio-temporal characteristics and causes of haze events in Northeast China by combining a range of data sources(i.e., ground monitoring, satellite-based products, and meteorological products). It was found that the ‘Shenyang-Changchun-Harbin(SCH)'city belt was the most polluted area in the region on an annual scale. The spatial distribution of air quality index(AQI) values had a clear seasonality, with the worst pollution occurring in winter, an approximately oval-shaped polluted area around western Jilin Province in spring, and the best air quality occurring in summer and most of the autumn. The three periods that typically experienced intense haze events were Period I from mid-October to mid-November(i.e., late autumn and early winter), Period II from late-December to February(i.e., the coldest time in winter), and Period III from April to mid-May(i.e., spring). During Period I, strong PM_(2.5) emissions from seasonal crop residue burning and coal burning for winter heating were the dominant reasons for the occurrence of extreme haze events(AQI > 300). Period II had frequent heavy haze events(200 < AQI < 300) in the coldest months of January and February, which were due to high PM_(2.5) emissions from coal burning and vehicle fuel consumption, a lower atmospheric boundary layer, and stagnant atmospheric conditions. Haze events in Period III, with high PM_(10) concentrations, were primarily caused by the regional transportation of windblown dust from degraded grassland in central Inner Mongolia and bare soil in western Jilin Province. Local agricultural tilling could also release PM_(10) and enhance the levels of windblown dust from tilled soil. | 16 | Temporal variability of atmospheric particulate matter and chemical composition during a growing season at an agricultural site in northeastern China显示文摘This study presents the observations of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) concentrations at an agricultural site from April to October 2012 in Dehui city,China.Ambient air was sampled by filter-based samplers and online PM monitors.The filter samples were analyzed to determine the abundance of ionic/inorganic elements,organic carbon(OC) and elemental carbon(EC).The daily PM_(10) concentrations varied significantly over the monitoring period,with an average of168 ± 63(in the range of 52-277) μg/m^3 during the land preparation/planting period(26 April-15 June),85 ± 65(36-228) μg/m^3 during the growing season(16 June-25 September),and 207 ±88(103-310) μg/m^3 during the harvest period(26 September-31 October).PM_(2.5) accounted for44%,56%and 66%of atmospheric PM_(10) during these periods,respectively.The PM_(10) diurnal variation showed a distinct peak from 16:00 to 21:00(LST) during the growing and harvesting seasons,while a gradual increase throughout the daytime until 17:00 was observed during tilling season.Mineral dust elements(Al,Ca,Fe,and Mg) dominated the PM_(10) chemical composition during the tilling season;OC,NO_3^-,SO_4^(2-) and NH_4^+ during the growing season;and carbonaceous species(i.e.,OC and EC) during the harvesting season.Our results indicate that the soil particles emitted by farm tillage and organic matter released from straw burning are the two most significant sources of PM_(10) emissions contributing to the recurring high pollution events in this region.Therefore,development of agricultural PM inventories from soil tillage and straw burning is prioritized to support air quality modeling. | Weiwei Chen Daniel Tong Shichun Zhang Mo Dan Xuelei Zhang Hongmei Zhao | 2015 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2015,27,12: | 7 |
| 17 | Highly sensitive wearable sensor based on a flexible multi-layer graphene film antenna显示文摘The use of advanced carbon nanomaterials for flexible antenna sensors has attracted great attention due to their outstanding electromechanical properties. However, carbon nanomaterial based composites have yet to overcome drawbacks, such as low conductivity and toughness. In this work, a flexible multi-layer graphene film(FGF) with a high conductivity of 10~6 S/m for antenna based wearable sensors is investigated. A 1.63 GHz FGF antenna sensor exhibits significantly high strain sensitivity of 9.8 for compressive bending and 9.36 for tensile bending, which is super than the copper antenna sensor(5.39 for compressive bending and 4.05 for tensile bending). | 18 | Characterizing the antibiotic resistance genes in a river catchment: Influence of anthropogenic activities显示文摘Previous studies on environmental antibiotics resistance genes(ARGs) have focused on the pollution sources such as wastewater treatment plants, aquaculture and livestock farms,etc. Few of them had addressed this issue in a regional scale such as river catchment. Hence,the occurrence and abundances of 23 ARGs were investigated in surface water samples collected from 38 sites which located from the river source to estuary of the Beijiang River.Among them, 11 ARGs were frequently detected in this region and 5 ARGs(sul I, sul II, tet B,tet C, and tet W) were selected for their distribution pattern analysis. The abundances of the selected ARGs were higher in the upstream(8.70 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA) and downstream areas(3.17 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA) than those in the midstream areas(1.23 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA), which was positively correlated to the population density and number of pollution sources. Pollution sources of ARGs along the Beijiang River not only had a great impact on the abundances and diversity, but also on the distribution of specific ARGs in the water samples. Both sul I and sul II were likely originated from aquaculture farms and animal farms,tet W gene was possibly associated with the mining/metal melting industry and the electric waste disposal and tet C gene was commonly found in the area with multiple pollution sources.However, the abundance of tet B was not particularly related to anthropogenic impacts. | 20 | Local PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) emission inventories from agricultural tillage and harvest in northeastern China显示文摘Mineral particles or particulate matters(PMs) emitted during agricultural activities are major recurring sources of atmospheric aerosol loading.However,precise PM inventory from agricultural tillage and harvest in agricultural regions is challenged by infrequent local emission factor(EF) measurements.To understand PM emissions from these practices in northeastern China,we measured EFs of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) from three field operations(i.e.,tilling,planting and harvesting) in major crop production(i.e.,corn and soybean),using portable real-time PM analyzers and weather station data.County-level PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) emissions from agricultural tillage and harvest were estimated,based on local EFs,crop areas and crop calendars.The EFs averaged(107 ± 27),(17 ± 5) and 26 mg/m^2 for field tilling,planting and harvesting under relatively dry conditions(i.e.,soil moisture <15%),respectively.The EFs of PM from field tillage and planting operations were negatively affected by topsoil moisture.The magnitude of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) emissions from these three activities were estimated to be 35.1 and 9.8 kilotons/yr in northeastern China,respectively,of which Heilongjiang Province accounted for approximately45%.Spatiotemporal distribution showed that most PM_(10) emission occurred in April,May and October and were concentrated in the central regions of the northeastern plain,which is dominated by dryland crops.Further work is needed to estimate the contribution of agricultural dust emissions to regional air quality in northeastern China. | Weiwei Chen Daniel Q Tong Shichun Zhang Xuelei Zhang Hongmei Zhao | 2017 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7: | 6 |
