Low-threshold topological nanolasers based on the second-order corner state显示文摘Topological lasers are immune to imperfections and disorder. They have been recently demonstrated based on many kinds of robust edge states, which are mostly at the microscale. The realization of 2D on-chip topological nanolasers with a small footprint,a low threshold and high energy efficiency has yet to be explored. Here,we report the first experimental demonstration of a topological nanolaser with high performance in a 2D photonic crystal slab.A topological nanocavity is formed utilizing the Wannier-type 0D corner state.Lasing behaviour with a low threshold of approximately 1μW and a high spontaneous emission coupling factor of 0.25 is observed with quantum dots as the active material.Such performance is much better than that of topological edge lasers and comparable to that of conventional photonic crystal nanolasers. Our experimental demonstration of a low-threshold topological nanolaser will be of great significance to the development of topological nanophotonic circuitry for the manipulation of photons in classical and quantum regimes. | Weixuan Zhang Xin Xie Huiming Hao Jianchen Dang Shan Xiao Shushu Shi Haiqiao Ni Zhichuan Niu Can Wang Kuijuan Jin Xiangdong Zhang Xiulai Xu | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 10
Carbon nanotubes prepared by anodic aluminum oxide template method显示文摘One of the most unique structural characteristics of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) differentiating from other carbon materials is their hollow nanochannles, which can be utilized for encapsulating and loading foreign matters. The anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) template technique enables the diameter, length, and cap structure control of the replicated CNTs,and thus shows advantages in pore structure control over the traditional CNT growth approaches. This review details the synthesis of CNTs with tunable diameter, length, wall thickness, and crystalline by using the AAO template method. The doping of heteroatoms and filling of foreign matters into AAO-CNTs are also addressed. Moreover, the main challenges and developing trends of the AAO template method are discussed. | HOU PengXiang LIU Chang SHI Chao CHENG HuiMing | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,2: | 7
Robust RGB-D Camera and IMU Fusion-based Cooperative and Relative Close-range Localization for Multiple Turtle-inspired Amphibious Spherical Robots显示文摘In the narrow, submarine, unstructured environment, the present localization approaches, such as GPS measurement, dead?rcckoning, acoustic positioning, artificial landmarks-based method, are hard to be used for multiple small-scale underwater robots. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel RGB-D camera and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) fusion-based cooperative and relative close-range localization approach for special environments, such as underwater caves. Owing to the rotation movement with zero-radius, the cooperative localization of Multiple Turtle-inspired Amphibious Spherical Robot (MTASRs) is realized. Firstly, we present an efficient Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) and Color Names (CNs) fusion feature extracted from color images ofTASRs. Then, by training Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier with this fusion feature, an automatic recognition method of TASRs is developed. Secondly, RGB-D camerabased measurement model is obtained by the depth map In order to realize the cooperative and relative close-range localization of MTASRs, the MTASRs model is established with RGB-D camera and IMU. Finally, the depth measurement in water is corrected and the efficiency of RGB-D camera for underwater application is validated. Then experiments of our proposed localization method with three robots were conducted and the results verified the feasibility of the proposed method for MTASRs. | Huiming Xing Liwei Shi Kun Tang Shuxiang Guo Xihuan Hou Yu Liu Huikang Liu Yao Hu | 2019 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,3: | 6
A Fuzzy PID Algorithm for a Novel Miniature Spherical Robots with Three-dimensional Underwater Motion Control显示文摘We proposed and developed a small bionic amphibious spherical robot system for tasks such as coastal environment monitoring and offshore autonomous search and rescue. Our third-generation bionic small amphibious spherical robots have many disadvantages, such as the lack of maneuverability and a small operating range. It is difficult to accomplish underwater autonomous motion control with these robots. Therefore,we proposed a fourth-generation amphibious spherical robot. However, the amphibious spherical robot developed in this project has a small and compact design, with limited sensors and external sensing options. This means that the robot has weak external information collection capabilities. We need to make the real time operation of the robot's underwater motion control system more reliable. In this paper,we mainly used a fuzzy Proportional-Integral-Derivative(PID)control algorithm to design an underwater motion control system for a novel robot. Moreover,we compared PID with fuzzy PID control methods by carrying out experiments on heading and turning bow motions to verify that the fuzzy PID is more robust and exhibits good dynamic performance. We also carried out experiments on the three-dimensional(3D)motion control to validate the design of the underwater motion control system. | Liwei Shi Yao Hu Shuxiang Su Shuxiang Guo Huiming Xing Xihuan Hou Yu Liu Zhan Chen Zan Li Debin Xia | 2020 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,5: | 4
Flow characteristic and wastewater treatment performance of a pilot-scale airlift oxidation ditch显示文摘A pilot-scale airlift oxidation ditch using bubble diffuser and baffle as aerator was operated in a wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)to investigate its flow characteristic and wastewater treatment performance.Compared with the conventional oxidation ditch process, effective depth and oxygen utilization efficiency of this new process was improved by underwater aeration.Furthermore,it had a reversed velocity distribution, which decreased from the bottom to the top on vertical section.Velocity measurement showed that a velocity over 0.2 m/s at the bottom was sufficient to prevent sludge settlement during long term operation.Application of these concepts would save land area and energy consumption by about 25%–50%and 55%,respectively.In this new system, organic biodegradation and nitrification could be well achieved.Denitrification could occur steadily in the straight part by adjusting the airflow rate.An average TN removal rate of 63%was achieved with dissolved oxygen(DO)concentrations between 0.6 mg/L and 1.5 mg/L.The main pollutants in the effluent could meet the strictest discharge standard(COD<50 mg/L,NH4_(+)^(–)N<5 mg/L,and TN<15 mg/L)in China now. | Hongtao PANG Hanchang SHI Huiming SHI | 2009 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,4: | 3

Scientific challenges of research on natural hazards and disaster risk显示文摘As a discipline, the science of natural hazards and disaster risk aims to explain the spatial-temporal pattern, process and mechanism, emergency response and risk mitigation of natural hazards, which requires a multidisci-plinary and interdisciplinary approach. With the support of Natural Science Finance of China(NSFC)and Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS),in-depth research and systematic analysis on natural hazards and disaster risk were conducted. In this paper, the state of the art in research on natural hazards is summarized from seven aspects:formation process, mechanism and dynamic of natural hazards, disaster risk assessment, forecast, monitoring and early warning, disaster mitigation, emergency treatment and rescue, risk management and post-disaster re-construction.The trends within the natural hazards and disaster risk as a discipline were identified, along with existing shortcomings and significant gaps that need to be addressed. This paper highlighted:1)the scientific challenges including the frontier scientific issues and technological gaps on natural hazards and disaster risk dis-cipline from 2025 to 2035 in China, and 2)the proposal to develop a systemic and holistic natural hazards and disaster risk discipline. | Peng Cui Jianbing Peng Peijun Shi Huiming Tang Chaojun Ouyang Qiang Zou Lianyou Liu Changdong Li Yu Lei | 2021 | Geography and Sustainability2021,2,3: | 3
Feedforward control for nitrogen removal in a pilot-scale anaerobic-anoxic-oxic plant for municipal wastewater treatment显示文摘To improve the efficiency of nitrogen removalwith lower energy consumption, the study of feedforwardcontrol was carried out on a pilot-scale anaerobic-anoxicoxic(AAO)plant for the treatment of municipal wastewater. The effluent qualities of the pilot plant underdifferent control strategies were investigated. The resultsindicated that the change of external recycle was not asuitable approach to regulate the sludge concentration ofplug-flow reactors;adjusting the aeration valve anddissolved oxygen set-point according to ammonia loadcould overcome the impact of influent fluctuation;and thedenitrification potential could be estimated based on thetransit time of anoxic zone and the relative content ofcarbon resource entering the anoxic zone.Simple feedforwardcontrol strategies for aeration and internal recyclewere subsequently proposed and validated. The nitrogenremoval was successfully improved in the pilot plant.Theeffluent total nitrogen had decreased by 29.9%and wassteadily controlled below 15 mg·L^(-1).Furthermore,approximately 38%of the energy for aeration had beensaved. | Tonggang SHEN Hanchang SHI Huiming SHI He JING Huilei XIONG | 2011 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2011,5,1: | 3

Ultrathin nanoporous metal electrodes facilitate high proton conduction for low-Pt PEMFCs显示文摘Design of catalyst layers(CLs)with high proton conductivity in membrane electrode assemblies(MEAs)is an important issue for proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs).Herein,an ultrathin catalyst layer was constructed based on Pt-decorated nanoporous gold(NPG-Pt)with sub-Debye-length thickness for proton transfer. In the absence of ionomer incorporation in the CLs,these integrated carbon-free electrodes can deliver maximum mass-specific power density of 198.21 and 25.91 kW·gPt^(-1) when serving individually as the anode and cathode,at a Pt loading of 5.6 and 22.0 pg·cm^(-2),respectively,comparable to the best reported nano-catalysts for PEMFCs.In-depth quantitative experimental measurements and finite-element analyses indicate that improved proton conduction plays a critical role in activation, ohmic and mass transfer polarizations. | Shuai Shi Xianglong Wen Qinqin Sang Shuai Yin Kaili Wang Jian Zhang Min Hu Huiming Yin Jia He Yi Ding | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,8: | 2
Diversity and distribution of soil micro-fungi along an elevation gradient on the north slope of Changbai Mountain显示文摘Elevational changes in patterns of diversity are important to understanding of the influence of global changes, yet few studies have addressed the distribution of microorganisms, e.g. soil micro-fungi. We studied the diversity of the forest soil micro-fungi in four vegetation belts along an elevation gradient on the north slope of Changbai Mountain in Changbai National Nature Reserve. The four belts were characterized as coniferous–deciduous mixed forest, coniferous forest, Erman's birch forest, and alpine tundra. We estimated the quantity and distribution of the fungal species in each belt and calculated three indices, viz. Shannon–Wiener diversity(H'), Pielou's evenness(J'),and Margalef's abundance(E), to depict fungal species diversity. A total of 932 strains were recorded and identified, representing 53 genera, and 108 species. Among these, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Trichoderma, Mucor, Rhizopus and Fusarium were the dominant genera. With increasing elevation, the quantity of fungi and values of H',E, and J' gradually declined. | Hong Yang Guozhong Lu Huiming Jiang Dong-ning Shi Zhiheng Liu | 2017 | Journal of Forestry Research2017,28,4: | 2

Study of micro-trichome (mict) reveals novel connections between transcriptional regulation of multicellular trichome development and specific metabolism in cucumber显示文摘Trichomes that cover the epidermis of aerial plant organs play multiple roles in plant protection.Compared with a unicellular trichome in model plants, the development mechanism of the multicellular trichome is largely unclear.Notably, variations in trichome development are often accompanied by defects in the biosynthesis of cuticle and secondary metabolites;however, major questions about the interactions between developmental differences in trichomes and defects in metabolic pathways remain unanswered. Here,we characterized the glabrous mutant mict/csgl1/cstbh via combined metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses to extend our limited knowledge regarding multicellular trichome development and metabolism in cucumber.Mict was found to be explicitly expressed within trichome cells.Transcriptomic analysis indicated that genes involved in flavonoid and cuticle metabolism are significantly downregulated in mict mutants.Further metabolomic analysis confirmed that flavonoids, lipids, and cuticle compositions are dramatically altered in mict mutants.Additional studies revealed that Mict regulates flavonoid, lipid, and cuticle biosynthesis by likely directly binding to downstream functional genes, such as CsTT4,CsFLS1,CsCER26,and CsMYB36.These findings suggest that specific metabolic pathways(e.g.,flavonoids and cuticle components)are co-regulated by Mict and provide insights into transcriptional regulation mechanisms of multicellular trichome development and its specific metabolism in cucumber. | Jian Pan Leyu Zhang Guanqun Chen Haifan Wen Yue Chen Hui Du Junlong Zhao Huanle He Hongli Lian Huiming Chen Jianxin Shi Run Cai Gang Wang Junsong Pan | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 1
Enhancing the HSV-1-mediated antitumor immune response by suppressing Bach1显示文摘Background In 2015,herpes simplex virus 1(HSV-1)-derived talimogene laherparepvec(T-VEC)was the first oncolytic virus approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a therapeutic agent for cancer treatment. However, its antitumor application is limited to local treatment of melanoma, and there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms underlying the regulation of HSV-1 replication in cancer cells and the associated antitumor immunity. We hypothesized that increasing the replication capacity of HSV-1 in tumor cells would enhance the antitumor effect of this virus. Methods We systematically identified IFN-stimulated genes induced by HSV-1 by performing functional screens and clarified the mechanism by which BACH1 acts against HSV-1.Then,we tested the effect of BACH1 deficiency on immunogenic cell death induced by HSV-1.Furthermore,we investigated the antitumor effect of BACH1 deficiency on HSV-1 in MCA205 and B16 murine tumor models. Results We identified eight IFN-stimulated genes(ISGs)controlling HSV-1 replication, among which BTB and CNC homology 1(BACH1)suppressed HSV-1 replication by inhibiting the transcription of ICP4,ICP27,and UL39.Loss of Bach1 function not only increased HSV-1 proliferation but also promoted HSV-1-induced cell apoptosis,HMGB1 secretion, and calreticulin exposure in tumor cells.More importantly, hemin,an FDA-approved drug known to downregulate BACH1,significantly enhanced HSV-1-mediated antitumor activity with increased T lymphocyte infiltration at the tumor site. Conclusions Our studies uncovered a novel antiviral activity of BACH1 and provided a new strategy for improving the clinical efficiency of the oncolytic virus HSV-1. | Chaohu Pan Qiaomei Cai Xiaorong Li Lili Li Liping Yang Yu Chen Junxiao Liu Wancheng Liu Meiling Gao Tianqi Sui Xiaoyang Wang Huiming Fan Jiayin Ruan Yueyue Shi Saihua Chen Lucy S.Cheng Jiayong Liu Heng Yang Genhong Cheng | 2022 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,4: | 0
