Cytokine- and chemokine-induced inflammatory colorectal tumor microenvironment: Emerging avenue for targeted therapy显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC)is a predominant life-threatening cancer, with liver and peritoneal metastases as the primary causes of death.Intestinal inflammation,a known CRC risk factor, nurtures a local inflammatory environment enriched with tumor cells, endothelial cells, immune cells,cancer-associated fibroblasts, immunosuppressive cells, and secretory growth factors. The complex interactions of aberrantly expressed cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and matrix-remodeling enzymes promote CRC pathogenesis and evoke systemic responses that affect disease outcomes.Mounting evidence suggests that these cytokines and chemokines play a role in the progression of CRC through immunosuppression and modulation of the tumor microenvironment, which is partly achieved by the recruitment of immunosuppressive cells. These cells impart features such as cancer stem cell-like properties, drug resistance, invasion, and formation of the premetastatic niche in distant organs, promoting metastasis and aggressive CRC growth.A deeper understanding of the cytokineand chemokine-mediated signaling networks that link tumor progression and metastasis will provide insights into the mechanistic details of disease aggressiveness and facilitate the development of novel therapeutics for CRC.Here,we summarized the current knowledge of cytokine-and chemokine-mediated crosstalk in the inflammatory tumor microenvironment, which drives immunosuppression, resistance to therapeutics, and metastasis during CRC progression. We also outlined the potential of this crosstalk as a novel therapeutic target for CRC.The major cytokine/chemokine pathways involved in cancer immunotherapy are also discussed in this review.Ajaz A.Bhat Sabah Nisar Mayank Singh Bazella Ashraf Tariq Masoodi Chandra P.Prasad Atul Sharma Selma Maacha Thasni Karedath Sheema Hashem Syed Besina Yasin Puneet Bagga Ravinder Reddy Michael P.Frennaux Shahab Uddin Punita Dhawan Mohammad Haris Muzafar A.Macha 2022Cancer Communications2022,42,8:8
Energy loss at bends in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash显示文摘An accurate estimation of the total pressure drop of a pipeline is important to the reliable design of a pneumatic conveying system. The present paper presents results from an investigation into the modelling of the pressure drop at a bend in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash.Seven existing bend models were used(in conjunction with solids friction models for horizontal and vertical straight pipes, and initial acceleration losses) to predict the total pipeline pressure drop in conveying fly ash(median particle diameter:30 μm;particle density:2300 kg/m^3;loose-poured bulk density:700 kg/m^3) in three test rigs(pipelines with dimensions of 69 mm inner diameter(I.D.) × 168 m length:105 mm I.D.× 168 m length;69 mm I.D.× 554 m length).A comparison of the pneumatic conveying characteristics(PCC) predicted using the seven bend models and experimental results shows that the predicted total pipeline PCC and trends depend on the choice of bend model. While some models predict trends that agree with the experimental results, other models predicted greater bend pressure drops for the dense phase of fly ash than for the dilute phase.Models of Pan,R.(1992).Improving scale-up procedures for the design of pneumatic conveying systems.Doctoral dissertation,University of Wollongong,Australia.Pan,R.,& Wypych,P.W.(1998).Dilute and dense phase pneumatic conveying of fly ash.In Proceedings of the sixth International Conference on Bulk Materials Storage and Transportation(pp.183-189),Wollongong,NSW,Australia and Chambers,A.J.,& Marcus,R.D.(1986).Pneumatic conveying calculations. In Proceedings of the second International Conference on Bulk Materials Storage and Transportation(pp.49-52).Wollongong,Australia reliably predicted the bend losses for systems conveying fly ash over a large range of air flows.Naveen Tripathi Atul Sharma S.S.Mallick P.W.Wypych 2015Particuology2015,13,4:5
Epidemiology of electrical burns and its impact on quality of life-the developing world scenario显示文摘BACKGROUND Electrical burns are devastating injuries and can cause deep burns with significant morbidity and delayed sequelae.Epidemiological data regarding the etiology, socioeconomic differences and geographic variation are necessary to assess the disease burden and plan an effective preventive strategy. These severe injuries often lead to amputations and thus hamper quality of life in the long term AIM To identify the population at maximum risk of sustaining electrical burns. We also studied the impact of electrical burns on these patients in terms of quality of life as well as return to work.METHODS The study was conducted at a tertiary referral teaching hospital over a period of eighteen months. All patients with a history of sustaining electrical burns and satisfying the inclusion criteria were included in the study. All relevant epidemiological parameters and treatment details were recorded. The patients were subsequently followed up at 3 mo,6 mo and 9 mo.The standardized Brief Version of the Burn Specic Health Scale(BSHS-B)was adopted to assess quality of life.Statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS statistics(version 22.0).A P value of<0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS A total of 103 patients were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 31.83 years(range 18-75 years).A significant majority(91.3%)of patients were male. The mean total body surface area(TBSA)in these patients was 21.1%.In most of the patients(67%),the injury was occupation-related.High voltage injuries were implicated in 72.8%of patients.Among the 75 high voltage burn patients,31(41%)required amputation. The mean number of surgeries the patients underwent in hospital was 2.03(range 1 to 4).The quality of life parameters amongst the patients sustaining high voltage electrical burns were poorer when compared to low voltage injuries at all follow-up intervals across nine domains. In eight of these domains, the difference was statistically significant.Similarly, the scores among the amputees were poorer when compared to non-amputees.The difference was statistically significant in six domains.CONCLUSION Electrical burns remain a problem in the developing world. Most injuries are occupation-related.The quality of life in patients with high voltage burns and amputees remains poor.Work resumption was almost impossible for amputees. These patients could not regain pre-injury status.Steps should be taken to create awareness and to implement an effective preventive strategy to safeguard against electrical injuries.Giriraj Gandhi Atul Parashar Ramesh K Sharma 2022World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2022,11,1:3
Effect of binder amount on the development of coal-binder interface and its relationship with the strength of the carbonized coal-binder composite显示文摘Production of high-strength carbonized coal composites from non-caking coals only with possible application as coke is presented.A binder and a non-caking coal were mixed in different ratios and carbonized at 1000C to produce coal-binder composites. Two binders, one from coal origin and other from oil origin were used.Effect of coal-binder mixing ratio and base coal particle size on the fracture strength of composites was investigated.Bonding of binder with the coal particles at coal-binder interface and development of connected carbon matrix were primarily responsible for the strength of the carbonized coal composites. The trend of change in fracture strength as a function of coal-binder fraction was similar for both the binders. However, for same coal-binder mixing ratio, binder type strongly affected the maximum strength achieved.Fracture strength was found to be primarily dependent on the coal-binder mixing ratio and base coal particle size. The main finding of this study is that the irrespective of binder type, for a given base coal particle size there was only one coal-binder mixing ratio at which the maximum strength was obtained. The binder fraction at which the highest strength observed was correlated to the carbon matrix connectivity index.Atul Sharma Naoto Sakimoto Toshimasa Takanohashi 2018Carbon Resources Conversion2018,1,2:3
Hydrodesulfurization of coal tar pitch using Pt/Al_(2)O_(3)and Pd/Al_(2)O_(3)catalysts under mild conditions显示文摘Hydrodesulfurization(HDS)of coal tar pitch(CTP)using Pt/Al_(2)O_(3)and Pd/Al_(2)O_(3)catalysts in tetrahydrofuran at 333 K and atmospheric pressure was investigated. The HDS of dibenzothiophene(DBT)proceeded over both the Pt and Pd catalysts under the mild conditions. The effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the HDS of DBT were examined:a naphthalene ring suppressed the HDS,while a benzene ring did not.CTP underwent HDS as well as partial hydrogenation under the mild conditions. The Pt catalyst was more active than the Pd catalyst in the HDS of CTP.The sulfur content in CTP was reduced by over 50%through the HDS process.Kazumasa Yazu Atul Sharma 2019Carbon Resources Conversion2019,2,3:3

GC/MS-based differential metabolic profiling of human peptic ulcer disease to study Helicobacter pylori-induced metabolic perturbations显示文摘Helicobacter pylori infection has been significantly linked to Peptic Ulcer Disease and Gastric Cancer.Metabolomic fingerprinting may offer a principal way of early diagnosis and to understand the molecular mechanism of H.pylori-induced pathogenicity. The rationale of the study is to explore the underlying distinct metabolic mechanisms of H.pylori-induced PUD and to identify potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and associated risks using Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.GC/MS-based analytical method was used to compare metabolic profiles of healthy controls(N=20)and peptic ulcer patients(N=45).Acquired metabolomic data were analyzed by constructing a diagnostic model using principal component analysis and a non-parametric two-tailed paired Wilcoxon analysis to identify disease-specific metabolic biomarkers.A total of 75 low-molecular-weight endogenous metabolites were detected during comparative metabolomic analysis of PUD vs.healthy gut tissues, among which 16 metabolites are being proposed to be diagnostic markers of Human PUD.Perturbations related to amino acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, organic acids, and sterol metabolism were significantly revealed during this differential metabolomic profiling. Results convincingly suggest that metabolic profiles can contribute immensely in early diagnosis of the disease and understanding molecular mechanisms of disease progression for predicting novel drug targets for prophylactic and anaphylactic measures.GAGANJOT GUPTA DEEPAK BANSAL ANSHULA SHARMA TAWSEEF AHMAD ATUL SACHDEV AJAZ AHMAD HAMED A.EL-SEREHY BALJINDER KAUR 2021BIOCELL2021,45,5:2
