| 1 | Epalrestat protects against diabetic peripheral neuropathy by alleviating oxidative stress and inhibiting polyol pathway显示文摘Epalrestat is a noncompetitive and reversible aldose reductase inhibitor used for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. This study assumed that epalrestat had a protective effect on diabetic peripheral nerve injury by suppressing the expression of aldose reductase in peripheral nerves of diabetes mellitus rats. The high-fat and high-carbohydrate model rats were established by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Peripheral neuropathy occurred in these rats after sustaining high blood glucose for 8 weeks. At 12 weeks after streptozotocin injection, rats were intragastrically administered epalrestat 100 mg/kg daily for 6 weeks. Transmission electron microscope revealed that the injuries to myelinated nerve fibers, non-myelinated nerve fibers and Schwann cells of rat sciatic nerves had reduced compared to rats without epalrestat administuation. Western blot assay and immunohistochemical results demonstrated that after intervention with epalrestat, the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase gradually increased, but aldose reductase protein expression gradually diminished. | 2 | Construction of a cucumber genetic linkage map with SRAP markers and location of the genes for lateral branch traits显示文摘Using SRAP (sequence-related amplified polymorphism) markers a genetic linkage map of cucumber was constructed with a population consisting of 138 F2 individuals derived from a cross of the two cucumber lines, S06 and S52. In the survey of parental polymorphisms with 182 primer combinations, 64 polymorphism-revealing primer pairs were screened out, which generated totally 108 polymorphic bands with an average of 1.7 bands per primer pair and at most 6 bands from one primer pair. The constructed molecular linkage map included 92 loci, distributed in seven linkage groups and spanning 1164.2 cM in length with an average genetic distance of 12.6 cM between two neighboring loci. Based on this linkage map, the quantitative trait loci (QTL) for the lateral branch number (lbn) and the lateral branch average length (lbl) in cucumber were identified by QTLMapper1.6. A major QTL lbn1 located between ME11SA4B and ME5EM5 in LG2 could explain 10.63% of the total variation with its positively effecting allele from S06. | 3 | Trends of Extreme Precipitation in Eastern China and Their Possible Causes显示文摘Significant increases of heavy precipitation and decreases of light precipitation have been reported over widespread regions of the globe. Global warming and effects of anthropogenic aerosols have both been proposed as possible causes of these changes. We examine data from urban and rural meteorological stations in eastern China(1955–2011) and compare them with Global Precipitation Climatology Project(GPCP) data(1979–2007) and reanalysis data in various latitude zones to study changes in precipitation extremes. Significant decreases in light precipitation and increases in heavy precipitation are found at both rural and urban stations, as well as low latitudes over the ocean, while total precipitation shows little change.Characteristics of these changes and changes in the equatorial zone and other latitudes suggest that global warming rather than aerosol effects is the primary cause of the changes. In eastern China, increases of annual total dry days(28 days) and 10 consecutive dry days(36%) are due to the decrease in light precipitation days, thereby establishing a causal link among global warming, changes in precipitation extremes, and higher meteorological risk of floods and droughts. | 5 | Multiple cytokine profiling in serum for early detection of gastric cancer显示文摘AIM To investigate the value of multiparameter joint analysis in the early diagnosis of gastric cancer(GC) in clinical practice.METHODS Concentrations of CEA, CA724 and three kinds of cytokines(TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8) in 176 GC patients, 117 atypical hyperplasia patients, and 204 healthy control individuals were used for building the diagnostic model, then 58 GC patients, 41 atypical hyperplasia patients, and 66 healthy control individuals were enrolled independently. The joints of the indicators were analyzed by binary logistic regression analysis method.RESULTS For discriminating the healthy control group and the GC group, IL-6 had the best diagnostic value, and the area under curve(AUC) of joint analysis was 0.95(0.93-0.97). For the early stage and advanced stage GC, the AUC were 0.95(0.92-0.98) and 0.95(0.92-0.97). For discriminating the atypical hyperplasia group and GC group, CA724 had the best diagnostic value, and the AUC of joint analysis was 0.97(0.95-0.99). For the early stage and advanced stage GC groups, the AUC were 0.98(0.96-0.99) and 0.96(0.94-0.98). After evaluation, for discriminating the GC, early stage GC and advanced cancer group from the healthy control group, the diagnostic sensitivity was 89.66%, 84.21% and 92.31%, respectively, and the specificity was 92.42%, 90.91% and 90.91%. For discriminating the GC, early stage GC and advanced cancer groups from the atypical hyperplasia group, the diagnostic sensitivity was 87.93%, 78.95% and 92.31%, respectively, and the specificity was 87.80%, 85.37% and 90.24%.CONCLUSION We have built a diagnostic model including CEA, CA724, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α. | 6 | Structure Design of Lower Limb Exoskeletons for Gait Training显示文摘Due to the close physical interaction between human and machine in process of gait training, lower limb exoskeletons should be safe, comfortable and able to smoothly transfer desired driving force/moments to the patients. Correlatively, in kinematics the exoskeletons are required to be compatible with human lower limbs and thereby to avoid the uncontrollable interactional loads at the human-machine interfaces. Such requirement makes the structure design of exoskeletons very difficult because the human-machine closed chains are complicated. In addition, both the axis misalignments and the kinematic character difference between the exoskeleton and human joints should be taken into account. By analyzing the DOF(degree of freedom) of the whole human-machine closed chain, the human-machine kinematic incompatibility of lower limb exoskeletons is studied. An effective method for the structure design of lower limb exoskeletons, which are kinematically compatible with human lower limb, is proposed. Applying this method, the structure synthesis of the lower limb exoskeletons containing only one-DOF revolute and prismatic joints is investigated; the feasible basic structures of exoskeletons are developed and classified into three different categories. With the consideration of quasi-anthropopathic feature, structural simplicity and wearable comfort of lower limb exoskeletons, a joint replacement and structure comparison based approach to select the ideal structures of lower limb exoskeletons is proposed, by which three optimal exoskeleton structures are obtained. This paper indicates that the human-machine closed chain formed by the exoskeleton and human lower limb should be an even-constrained kinematic system in order to avoid the uncontrollable human-machine interactional loads. In this context, it is a crucial problem to measure the slip length for these surfaces. Here we propose a novel method by using rheometer for this objective. This method is implemented by designing the distribution of the super-hydrophobic area on the sample. Using this method, a slip length of 40 μm for 70 wt% glycerin flow over a super-hydrophobic surface with stripe structure (the period, width and height of ridges are 150 μm, 40 μm and 65 μm, respectively) is measured. The result shows that the slip length measured using this method is in good agreement with former results measured by other methods. | 10 | Recovery of rare earths from ion-absorbed rare earths ore with MgSO_4-ascorbic acid compound leaching agent显示文摘The magnesium sulfate leaching technology for the ion-absorbed rare earths ore can solve the ammonia pollution problem existing in ammonium sulfate leaching process. However, the leaching capacity of magnesium sulfate is slightly weaker than that of ammonium sulfate, resulting in a bigger consumption of magnesium sulfate. In this paper, the MgSO_4-ascorbic acid compound leaching agent had been demonstrated to deal with the ion-absorbed rare earths ore. The ascorbic acid could form a stable coordination with rare earth ions, so that it can strengthen the leaching of ion-exchangeable phase.Moreover, ascorbic acid has a strong reductive property, it can leach the colloidal sediment phase rare earth as well. The present study investigates the effect of the initial pH and the composition of leaching agent on the rare earth leaching. It is determined that the rare earth leaching efficiency is 107.5% under the condition of pH 2.00,0.15 mol/L magnesium sulfate and 1.0 g/L ascorbic acid in leaching agent. In this case, the content of the ion-exchangeable phase and colloidal sediment phase rare earth in the leaching residues are both only 0.02‰. The leaching efficiency of colloid sediment phase rare earth can be 85.7%,so that the Ce partition in the leaching liquor increases to be 5.77%. The entire library was equivalent to approximately 5 haploid cucumber genomes. To facilitate chromosome engineering and anchor the cucumber genetic linkage map to its chromosomes,15 sequence-characterized ampli?ed regions (SCAR) and seven simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers from each link-age group of cucumber were used to screen an ordered array of pooled BAC DNA with polymerase chain reaction (PCR). | 12 | Prospective study of scoring system in selective intraoperative cholangiography during laparoscopic cholecystectomy显示文摘AIM: To evaluate of scoring system in predicting choledocholithiasis in selective intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC).METHODS: The scoring system of predicting choledocholithiasis was developed during the retrospective study in 264 cases, and was tested in 184 to evaluate its predictive value in choledocholithiasis.RESULTS: The scoring system was developed in a retrospective study of 264 cases, the statistical analyses showed the predictive factors included sex, transaminase levels, alkaline phosphatase level, bilirubin level, and common bile duct diameter on ultrasonography. The scoring system was used in 184 cases prospectively, of which, 3 of 162 (1.9%) cases scoring <3 had choledocholithiasis, 17 of 22 (77.3 %) cases scores≥3 had choledocholithiasis. | 14 | Predicting oral disintegrating tablet formulations by neural network techniques显示文摘Oral disintegrating tablets(ODTs) are a novel dosage form that can be dissolved on thetongue within 3 min or less especially for geriatric and pediatric patients. Current ODT for-mulation studies usually rely on the personal experience of pharmaceutical experts andtrial-and-error in the laboratory, which is inefficient and time-consuming. The aim of cur-rent research was to establish the prediction model of ODT formulations with direct com-pression process by artificial neural network(ANN) and deep neural network(DNN) tech-niques. 145 formulation data were extracted from Web of Science. All datasets were dividedinto three parts: training set(105 data), validation set(20) and testing set(20). ANN andDNN were compared for the prediction of the disintegrating time. The accuracy of the ANNmodel have reached 85.60%, 80.00% and 75.00% on the training set, validation set and testingset respectively, whereas that of the DNN model were 85.60%, 85.00% and 80.00%, respec-tively. Compared with the ANN, DNN showed the better prediction for ODT formulations.It is the first time that deep neural network with the improved dataset selection algorithmis applied to formulation prediction on small data. The proposed predictive approach couldevaluate the critical parameters about quality control of formulation, and guide researchand process development. | 16 | Prognostic Value of NT-proBNP in Stable Coronary Artery Disease in Chinese Patients after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in the Drug-eluting Stent Era显示文摘Objective The predictive value of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) in patients with stable coronary artery disease(SCAD) in the drug-eluting stent era is not yet clear. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of NT-proBNP in SCAD patients after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI). Methods We examined 4,293 consecutive SCAD patients who underwent PCI between January 2013 and December 2013 in Fuwai Hospital, China. The primary endpoint was all-cause death. NT-proBNP levels were measured before PCI using Elisa kits(Biomedica, Austria). The indication for PCI was based on the degree of coronary stenosis and evidence of ischemia. Results Among 3,187 SCAD patients with NT-proBNP data, after a 2-year follow-up, NT-proBNP levels were predictive for all-cause death in the SCAD population [area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, 0.768; 95% confidence interval(CI), 0.687-0.849; P < 0.001]. At the optimum cutoff point of 732 pg/mL, the sensitivity and specificity of death was 75.0% and 72.3%, respectively. In a multivariable Cox regression model, the death hazard ratio was 6.43(95% CI, 2.99-13.82; P < 0.001) for patients with NT-proBNP levels ≥ 732 pg/mL, compared with < 732 pg/mL. | 19 | Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection in children with acute respiratory tract infections in Guangzhou,China,2010–2021:a molecular epidemiology study显示文摘Background Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection can cause a variety of diseases.It is a major pathogen of pediatric acute respiratory tract infections(ARIs)and can be life-threatening in younger children.We described the epidemiology and subtypes shifting of HAdV among children with ARI in Guangzhou,China.Methods We conducted a retrospective study of 161,079 children diagnosed with acute respiratory illness at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center between 2010 and 2021.HAdV specimens were detected by real-time PCR and the hexon gene was used for phylogenetic analysis.Results Before the COVID-19 outbreak in Guangzhou,the annual frequency of adenovirus infection detected during this period ranged from 3.92%to 13.58%,with an epidemic peak every four to fve years.HAdV demonstrated a clear seasonal distribution,with the lowest positivity in March and peaking during summer(July or August)every year.A signifcant increase in HAdV cases was recorded for 2018 and 2019,which coincided with a shift in the dominant HAdV subtype from HAdV-3 to HAdV-7.The latter was associated with a more severe disease compared to HAdV-3.The average mortality proportion for children infected with HAdV from 2016 to 2019 was 0.38%but increased to 20%in severe cases.After COVID-19 emerged,HAdV cases dropped to 2.68%,suggesting that non-pharmaceutical interventions probably reduced the transmission of HAdV in the community.Conclusion Our study provides the foundation for the understanding of the epidemiology of HAdV and its associated risks in children in Southern China. | Yi Chen Tao Lin Chang‑Bing Wang Wan‑Li Liang Guang‑Wan Lian Mark Zanin Sook‑San Wong Xin‑Gui Tian Jia‑Yu Zhong Ying‑Ying Zhang Jia‑Hui Xie Ling‑Ling Zheng Fei‑Yan Chen Run Dang Ming‑Qi Zhao Yi‑Yu Yang Rong Zhou Bing Zhu | 2022 | World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,8: | 5 |
| 20 | ^(226)Ra evidence for the ecosystem shift over the past 40 years in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre显示文摘Surface seawater was collected for ^(226)Ra measurement in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre from July to October, 1999 and October to December, 2003. Combined with the historical data reported for this sea area, a declined trend of surface ^(226)Ra concentrations was observed since 1960s, indicating the ecosystem shift in response to global warming. On one side, the enhanced stratification of the upper water column resulting from global warming reduced the ^(226)Ra input from the depth, on the other, the temporal increase of biological production resulting from the climate-related ecosystem structure change strengthened the ^(226)Ra removal from the surface ocean. Both the physical and biological processes resulted in the decrease of surface ^(226)Ra concentrations in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. The temporal trend of surface ^(226)Ra concentrations was consistent with the trends of chlorophyll a, silicate, phosphate and primary production previously reported.
