Stem cell mechanisms during left ventricular remodeling post-myocardial infarction:Repair and regeneration显示文摘Post-myocardial infarction(MI),the left ventricle(LV)undergoes a series of events collectively referred to as remodeling. As a result, damaged myocardium is replaced with fibrotic tissue consequently leading to contractile dysfunction and ultimately heart failure.LV remodeling post-MI includes inflammatory, fibrotic, and neovascularization responses that involve regulated cell recruitment and function.Stem cells(SCs)have been transplanted post-MI for treatment of LV remodeling and shown to improve LV function by reduction in scar tissue formation in humans and animal models of MI.The promising results obtained from the application of SCs post-MI have sparked a massive effort to identify the optimal SC for regeneration of cardiomyocytes and the paradigm for clinical applications.Although SC transplantations are generally associated with new tissue formation,SCs also secrete cytokines, chemokines and growth factors that robustly regulate cell behavior in a paracrine fashion during the remodeling process. In this review, the different types of SCs used for cardiomyogenesis, markers of differentiation, paracrine factor secretion, and strategies for cell recruitment and delivery are addressed. | Rogelio Zamilpa Mary M Navarro Iris Flores Sy Griffey | 2014 | World Journal of Cardiology2014,6,7: | 11
Current concepts in ameloblastoma-targeted therapies in B-raf proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase V600E mutation: Systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Ameloblastomas are common benign epithelial odontogenic neoplasms that present an aggressive and unpredictable behavior that may modify treatment strategies.Different signaling pathways that participate in the progression of these tumors have been identified.B-raf proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase(BRAF)is a protein involved in the behavior of ameloblastomas, and it is related to many cell mechanisms.BRAF gene mutations have been identified in ameloblastomas,of which the BRAF V600E(valine substituted by glutamic acid at amino acid 600)mutation has been the most common and can be present concomitantly with other mutations that may be involved in its behavior.Targeted therapies have been used as an alternative in the case of resistance or contraindications to conventional treatments.AIM To document the presence of BRAF V600E and additional mutations, their behavior, and targeted therapies in these tumors.METHODS An electronic literature search was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines in PubMed/MEDLINE,Cochrane,EMBASE,and SpringerLink using the terms“ameloblastomas”,“BRAF V600E”,“additional mutations”,and“targeted therapies”.Ameloblastomas were classified according to WHO guidelines.Inclusion criteria were articles in English, published not more than 10 years ago,and studies with laboratory works related to BRAF V600E.Articles were evaluated by two independent reviewers and retrieved for full-text evaluation. The EBLIP Critical Appraisal Checklist was used to evaluate the quality of the eligible studies.Descriptive statistical analysis was performed.RESULTS Two independent reviewers, with a substantial concordance indicated by a kappa coefficient of k=0.76,evaluated a total of 19 articles that were included in this study. The analysis registered 521 conventional ameloblastomas(AM),81 unicystic ameloblastomas(UA),13 ameloblastic carcinomas(AC),three metastatic ameloblastomas(MA),and six peripheral ameloblastomas(PA),of which the histopathological type, anatomic location, laboratory tests, expression of BRAF mutation, and additional mutations were registered. The BRAF V600E mutation was found in 297 AM(57%),63 UA(77.7%),3 AC(23%),1 MA(50%),and 5 PA(83.3%).Follicular type predominated with a total of 116 cases(40%),followed by plexiform type with 63 cases(22.1%).Furthermore,both types presented additional mutations,in which alterations in JAK3 P132T,SMARCB1,PIK3CA,CTNNB1,SMO,and BRAF G606E genes were found.Four case reports were found with targeted therapy to BRAF V600E.CONCLUSION The identification of BRAF V600E and additional mutations as an aid in targeted therapies has been a breakthrough in alternative treatments of ameloblastomas where surgical treatments are contraindicated. | Rogelio González-González Sandra López-Verdín Jesús Lavalle-Carrasco Nelly Molina-Frechero Mario Isiordia-Espinoza Ramón G Carreón-Burciaga Ronell Bologna-Molina | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2020,11,1: | 6
Influence of CFH,HTRA1 and ARMS2 polymorphisms in the response to intravitreal ranibizumab treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration in a Spanish population显示文摘AIM:To determine whether gene polymorphisms of the major genetic risk loci for age-related macular degeneration(AMD):ARMS2(rs10490923),the complement factor H(CFH)(rs1410996) and HTRA1(rs11200638) influence the response to a treatment regimen with ranibizumab for exudative AMD.METHODS:This study included 100 patients(100 eyes)with exudative AMD.Patients underwent a treatment with ranibizumab injections monthly during three months.Reinjections were made when the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) decrease five letters(ETDRS) or central subfield retinal thickness gained 100 pm in optical coherence tomography image.Genotypes(rs10490923,rs1410996 and rs11200638) were analyzed using TaqMan probes or polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragment length polymorphisms analysis.RESULTS:There were no statistically significant differences in allelic distribution of CFH(rs1410996),ARMS2(rs10490923) and HTRA1(rs11200638)polymorphisms regarding to response to ranibizumab treatment.CONCLUSION:Ranibizumab treatment response is not related to CFH(rs1410996),ARMS2(rs10490923) and HTRA1(rs11200638) poymorphisms. | Fernando Cruz-Gonzalez Lucia Cabrillo-Estevez Vanesa Rivero-Gutierrez Ana Sanchez-Jara Lourdes De Juan-Marcos Rogelio Gonzalez-Sarmiento | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,9: | 5
Tolerance of Chrysantemum maximum to heavy metals:The potential for its use in the revegetation of tailings heaps显示文摘To find if ornamental plants are applicable to the remediation of metal-polluted areas, the tolerance of chrysanthemum plants (Chysanthemum maximum) var. Shasta to different metals under hydroponic conditions was studied. Their responses as influenced by the mycorrhizal fungus Glomus mosseae (Nicol. & Gerd.) Gerdemann & Trappe BEG25 on substrates containing mine residues were also investigated. Our results showed that chrysanthemum is a metal-tolerant plant under hydroponic conditions, plants behaving as Pb-excluders, whereas Cd, Cu and Ni were accumulated in roots. Low accumulation in flowers was observed for Cd and Cu but it was concentration-dependent. Ni and Pb were not translocated to flowers. Shoot biomass was not significantly affected by the different rates of mine residue addition for both mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. Mycorrhizal plants accumulated less Pb and Cu in both shoots and roots than non-mycorrhizal plants. Chysanthemum could be a prospective plant for revegetation of tailings and the use of inoculation may decrease plant metal accumulation in polluted soils. | Ma.del Carmen A.Gonzlez-Chvez Rogelio Carrillo-Gonzlez | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,2: | 4

Approach to early-onset colorectal cancer:Clinicopathological, familial, molecular and immunohistochemical characteristics显示文摘AIM:To characterize clinicopathological and familial features of early-onset colorectal cancer(CRC) and compare features of tumors with and without microsatellite instability(MSI).METHODS:Forty-five patients with CRC aged 45 or younger were included in the study.Clinical information,a three-generation family history, and tumor samples were obtained.MSI status was analyzed and mismatch repair genes were examined in the MSI families.Tumors were included in a tissue microarray and an immunohistochemical study was carried out with a panel of selected antibodies.RESULTS:Early onset CRC is characterized by advanced stage at diagnosis, right colon location,low-grade of differentiation, mucin production, and presence of polyps.Hereditary forms represent at least 21% of cases.Eighty-one percent of patients who died during followup showed a lack of expression of cyclin E,which could be a marker of poor prognosis.β-catenin expression was normal in a high percentage of tumors.CONCLUSION:Early-onset CRC has an important familial component, with a high proportion of tumors showing microsatellite stable.Cyclin E might be a poor prognosis factor. | Jose Perea Edurne Alvaro Yolanda Rodríguez Cristina Gravalos Eva Sánchez-Tomé Barbara Rivera Francisco Colina Pablo Carbonell Rogelio González-Sarmiento Manuel Hidalgo Miguel Urioste | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,29: | 3
The effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on digestion and mortality in the volcano rabbit(Romerolagus diazi)显示文摘An experiment was conducted to evaluate whether supplementation with a probiotic could enhance digestion and reduce mortality in the volcano rabbit in captivity. Two enclosures at Chapultepec Zoo, Mexico(114 individuals) were used in a crossover design(two periods of 60 days) with the following treatments: control group and supplementation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae(2×108 CFU/exhibit/day). Supplementation with the probiotic negatively affected(P<0.01) the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and energy. Mortality increased(P<0.04) following supplementation with the probiotic(4.26% vs. 8.89%), primarily in the juvenile rabbits. The results indicate that yeast supplementation in the volcano rabbit negatively affects digestion and mortality in captivity. | Rogelio Campos-Morales Germán D Mendoza Javier Ojeda Fernando X Plata José A Martínez | 2015 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2015,14,3: | 2
GOECP/SEOR radiotheraphy guidelines for non-small-cell lung cancer显示文摘Non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) is a heterogeneous disease accounting for approximately 85% of all lung cancers. Only 17% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage. Treatment is multidisciplinary and radiotherapy plays a key role in all stages of the disease. More than 50% of patients with NSCLC are treated with radiotherapy(curative-intent or palliative). Technological advancesincluding highly conformal radiotherapy techniques, new immobilization and respiratory control systems, and precision image verification systems-allow clinicians to individualize treatment to maximize tumor control while minimizing treatment-related toxicity. Novel therapeutic regimens such as moderate hypofractionation and advanced techniques such as stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT) have reduced the number of radiotherapy sessions. The integration of SBRT into routine clinical practice has radically altered treatment of early-stage disease. SBRT also plays an increasingly important role in oligometastatic disease. The aim of the present guidelines is to review the role of radiotherapy in the treatment of localized, locally-advanced, and metastatic NSCLC. We review the main radiotherapy techniques and clarify the role of radiotherapy in routine clinical practice. These guidelines are based on the best available evidence. The level and grade of evidence supporting each recommendation is provided. | Nuria Rodriguez De Dios Arturo Navarro-Martin Cristina Cigarral Rodolfo Chicas-Sett Rafael Garcia Virginia Garcia Jose Antonio Gonzalez Susana Gonzalo Mauricio Murcia-Mejia Rogelio Robaina Amalia Sotoca Carmen Vallejo German Valtuena Felipe Counago | 2022 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2022,13,4: | 2
Preoperative calculation of angles of vision and working area in laparoscopic surgery to treat a giant hiatal hernia显示文摘BACKGROUND Giant hiatal hernias still pose a major challenge to digestive surgeons, and their repair is sometimes a highly complex task. This is usually performed by laparoscopy, while the role of the thoracoscopic approach has yet to be clearly defined.AIM To preoperatively detect patients with a giant hiatal hernia in whom it would not be safe to perform laparoscopic surgery and who, therefore, would be candidates for a thoracoscopic approach.METHODS In the present study, using imaging test we preoperatively simulate the field of vision of the camera and the working area(instrumental access)that can be obtained in each patient when the laparoscopic approach is used.RESULTS From data obtained,we can calculate the access angles that will be obtained in a preoperative computerised axial tomography coronal section, according to the location of the trocar. We also provide the formula for performing the angle calculations If the trocars are placed in loss common situations, thus enabling us to determine the visibility and manoeuvrability for any position of the trocars.CONCLUSION The working area determines the cases in which we can operate safely and those in which certain areas of the hernia cannot be accessed, which is when the thoracoscopic approach would be safer. | Francisco Javier Perez Lara Rogelio Zubizarreta Jimenez Francisco Javier Moya Donoso Jose Manuel Hernández Gonzalez Tatiana Prieto-Puga Arjona Arturo del Rey Moreno Maria Pitarch Martinez | 2021 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2021,13,12: | 2

Alcoholic liver disease and hepatitis C virus infection显示文摘Alcohol consumption and hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection have a synergic hepatotoxic effect, and the coexistence of these factors increases the risk of advanced liver disease. The main mechanisms of this effect are increased viral replication and altered immune response, although genetic predisposition may also play an important role. Traditionally, HCV prevalence has been considered to be higher(up to 50%) in alcoholic patients than in the general po pulation. However, the presence of advanc e d alcoholic liver disease(ALD) or intravenous drug use(IDU) may have confounded the results of previous studies, and the real prevalence of HCV infection in alcoholic patients without ALD or prior IDU has been shown to be lower. Due to the toxic combined effect of HCV and alcohol, patients with HCV infection should be screened for excessive ethanol intake. Patients starting treatment for HCV infection should be specifically advised to stop or reduce alcohol consumption because of its potential impact on treatment efficacy and adherence and may benefi t from addi tionalsupport during antiviral therapy. This recommendation might be extended to all currently recommended drugs for HCV treatment. Patients with alcohol dependence and HCV infection, can be treated with acamprosate, nalmefene, topiramate, and disulfiram, although baclofen is the only drug specifically tested for this purpose in patients with ALD and/or HCV infection. | Ignacio Novo-Veleiro Lucía Alvela-Suárez Antonio-Javier Chamorro Rogelio González-Sarmiento Francisco-Javier Laso Miguel Marcos | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,4: | 2
