| 1 | Depression risk in patients with coronary heart disease in Germany显示文摘AIM To determine the prevalence of depression and its risk factors among patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) treated in German primary care practices.METHODS Longitudinal data from nationwide general practices in Germany(n = 1072) were analyzed.Individuals initially diagnosed with CHD(2009-2013) were identified,and 59992 patients were included and matched(1:1) to 59992 controls.The primary outcome measure was an initial diagnosis of depression within five years after the index date among patients with and without CHD.Cox proportional hazards models were used to adjust for confounders.RESULTS Mean age was equal to 68.0 years(SD = 11.3).A total of 55.9% of patients were men.After a five-year follow-up,21.8% of the CHD group and 14.2% of the control group were diagnosed with depression(P < 0.001).In the multivariate regression model,CHD was a strong risk factor for developing depression(HR =1.54,95%CI:1.49-1.59,P < 0.001).Prior depressive episodes,dementia,and eight other chronic conditions were associated with a higher risk of developing depression.Interestingly,older patients and women were also more likely to be diagnosed with depression compared with younger patients and men,respectively.CONCLUSION The risk of depression is significantly increased among patients with CHD compared with patients without CHD treated in primary care practices in Germany.CHD patients should be routinely screened for depression to ensure improved treatment and management. | Marcel Konrad Louis Jacob Michael A Rapp Karel Kostev | 2016 | World Journal of Cardiology2016,8,9: | 8 |

| 11 | Effects of radiation and chemotherapy on adipose stem cells: Implications for use in fat grafting in cancer patients显示文摘Autologous fat transplantation is a versatile tool in reconstructive surgery.Adipose-derived stem cells(ASCs)increase survival of fat grafts and thus are increasingly used for breast reconstruction in breast cancer patients.However,radiation and/or chemotherapy have been proposed to inhibit soft tissue regeneration in wound healing thus suggesting alteration in stem cell pathways.Therefore,elucidating effects of radiation and chemotherapy on ASCs is critical if one desires to enhance the survival of fat grafts in patients.This review outlines our work evaluating the function and recoverability of ASCs from radiation or chemotherapy patients,focusing specifically on their availability as a source of autologous stem cells for fat grafting and breast reconstruction in cancer patients.Even though evidence suggests radiation and chemotherapy negatively influence ASCs at the cellular level,the efficiency of the isolation and differentiation capacity did not appear influenced in patients after receiving chemotherapy treatment,although fat from radiated patients exhibited significantly altered ASC differentiation into endothelial-like cells.Further,the in vitro growth rates of patient’s ASCs do not differ significantly before or after treatment.Taken together,these studies suggest ASCs as an important new tool for grafting and reconstruction even when radiation and chemotherapy treatment are involved. | Rebecca Platoff Miguel A Villalobos Ashleigh Rapp Hagaman Yuan Liu Martha Matthews Michael E DiSanto Jeffrey P Carpenter Ping Zhang | 2021 | World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,8: | 0 |
| 12 | Integrated impedance sensing of liquid sample plug flow enables automated high throughput NMR spectroscopy显示文摘A novel approach for automated high throughput NMR spectroscopy with improved mass-sensitivity is accomplished by integrating microfluidic technologies and micro-NMR resonators.A flow system is utilized to transport a sample of interest from outside the NMR magnet through the NMR detector,circumventing the relatively vast dead volume in the supplying tube by loading a series of individual sample plugs separated by an immiscible fluid.This dual-phase flow demands a real-time robust sensing system to track the sample position and velocities and synchronize the NMR acquisition.In this contribution,we describe an NMR probe head that possesses a microfluidic system featuring:(i)a micro saddle coil for NMR spectroscopy and(ii)a pair of interdigitated capacitive sensors flanking the NMR detector for continuous position and velocity monitoring of the plugs with respect to the NMR detector.The system was successfully tested for automating flow-based measurement in a 500 MHz NMR system,enabling high resolution spectroscopy and NMR sensitivity of 2.18 nmol s1/2 with the flow sensors in operation.The flow sensors featured sensitivity to an absolute difference of 0.2 in relative permittivity,enabling distinction between most common solvents.It was demonstrated that a fully automated NMR measurement of nine individual 120μL samples could be done within 3.6 min or effectively 15.3 s per sample. | Omar Nassar Mazin Jouda Michael Rapp Dario Mager Jan G.Korvink Neil MacKinnon | 2021 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,2: | 0 |
