1Challenges in animal modelling of mesenchymal stromal cell therapy for inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘Utilization of mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs) for the treatment of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis is of translational interest.Safety of MSC therapy has been well demonstrated in early phase clinical trials but efficacy in randomized clinical trials needs to be demonstrated.Understanding MSC mechanisms of action to reduce gut injury and inflammation is necessary to improve current ongoing and future clinical trials.However, two major hurdles impede the direct translation of data derived from animal experiments to the clinical situation:(1) limitations of the currently available animal models of colitis that reflect human inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).The etiology and progression of human IBD are multifactorial and hence a challenge to mimic in animal models; and(2) Species specific differences in the functionality of MSCs derived from mice versus humans.MSCs derived from mice and humans are not identical in their mechanisms of action in suppressing inflammation.Thus, preclinical animal studies with murine derived MSCs cannot be considered as an exact replica of human MSC based clinical trials.In the present review, we discuss the therapeutic properties of MSCs in preclinical and clinical studies of IBD.We also discuss the challenges and approaches of using appropriate animal models of colitis, not only to study putative MSC therapeutic efficacy and their mechanisms of action, but also the suitability of translating findings derived from such studies to the clinic.Raghavan Chinnadurai Spencer Ng Vijayakumar Velu Jacques Galipeau 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,16:6
2Correlation of microstructure and magnetic properties in Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.1)Cu_(0.1)Zr_(0.033))_(6.93) magnets solution-treated at different temperatures显示文摘The correlation of microstructure and magnetic properties in Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.1)Cu_(0.1)Zr_(0.033))_(6.93) magnets solution-treated at different temperatures was systematically investigated. It is found that the magnets solution-treated at 1219℃ possess a single 1:7 H phase, exhibiting the homogeneous cellular structure during further aging treatment, leading to the optimum magnetic properties. However, for the magnets solution-treated at 1211 and 1223℃,2:17 H or 1:5 H secondary phase will also form besides 1:7 H main phase, which cannot transform into cellular structure,thus deteriorating the magnetic properties greatly. The irreversible magnetization investigations with recoil loops also propose a non-uniform pinning in the magnets induced by the secondary precipitates. At proper solution temperature, Zr is supposed to occupy the Fe-Fe dumbbell sites in the form of Zr-vacancy pairs, leading to the minimum c/a ratio and thus stabilizing the 1:7 H phase. 3基于BP神经网络的微波真空膨化浆果脆片工艺参数优化显示文摘为了优化微波真空膨化浆果脆片的工艺参数,在单因素试验基础上做四因素五水平中心组和响应面试验。将响应面试验数据作为神经网络的样本,采用神经网络的方法优化全局最优的工艺条件,优化结果:在微波强度27.92 W/g、初始含水率20%、膨化时间90 s和真空压强36 k Pa条件下,膨化度为3.80。在此条件下做验证试验,神经网络预测值与验证试验数据的相对误差为4.29%,响应面优化数值与验证试验数据的相对误差为6.58%。神经网络方法与遗传算法结合优化食品加工工艺参数是可行的,将其与响应曲面法结合起来,为食品加工工艺参数的优化提供一个有效的方法。刘海军 刘伟 张春芝 魏春红 郑先哲 G.S.Vijaya Raghavan 2016中国食品学报2016,16,3:5
4Anxiolytic property of hydro-alcohol extract of Lactuca sativa and its effect on behavioral activities of mice显示文摘Lactuca sativa,belonging to the Asteraceae family,is a leafy vegetable known for its medicinal properties.This study aimed to understand the mechanism of Lactuca sativa extract with respect to pharmacological action.We investigated the anxiolytic effects of hydro-alcoholic extract of leaves of Lactuca sativa on mice.The behavioral tests performed on mice models to assess anti-anxiety properties were:open field test (OFT),elevated plus maze test (EPM),elevated T maze test,and marble burying test.Increased locomotor activity and time spent in the 'open-arm' were observed in extract fed group.Malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitrite levels were decreased,catalase and glutathione levels were increased in Lactuca sativa treated mice.The data obtained in the present study suggests that the extract of Lactuca sativa can afford significant protection against anxiolytic activity.Singapura Nagesh Harsha Kandangath Raghavan Anilakumar 2013The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1:4

6离子选择电极阵列测定土壤中硝态氮显示文摘土壤硝态氮反映土壤短期氮素供应水平,实时了解土壤硝态氮的含量为精准农业和农业面源污染防控提供支撑,因此,在线实时检测土壤硝态氮方法突破就显得十分迫切。土壤硝态氮中的硝酸根离子在土壤中的高水溶性和流动性为全固态硝酸根离子选择电极高敏感检测土壤中硝态氮提供了条件,固态硝态氮离子选择电极的离子选择膜反应硝酸根离子在被测溶液中的浓度。采用全固态硝酸根离子选择电极ELIT NO_(3)^(-),且与温度电极和pH电极融合组成电极阵列对土壤饱和溶液中的硝酸根离子进行检测。设计了高输入阻抗运算放大电路对电极信号进行采集,并通过微处理控制蠕动泵完成土壤硝态氮待测溶液连续流动测定及实时传输结果。实验结果表明,电极响应时间≤15 s,斜率-51.63 mV/decade,线性范围10^(-5)~10^(-2.2) mol/L,最低检测限10^(-5.23) mol/L。相对标准差在0.78%~4.5%,加标回收率均在90.0%~110%。与紫外可见分光光度法测试结果相比,相关系数(R^(2))为0.9952,为土壤硝态氮在现场检测奠定技术基础。苏睿 苑锋 吴俊锋 位文涛 VIJAYA Raghavan 胡建东 2022中国无机分析化学2022,12,1:3
7An overview of studies of observed climate change in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region显示文摘The Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH hereafter) region is characterized by mountainous environments and a variety of regional climatic conditions. High-altitude regions in the HKH have the recent warming amplifications, especially during the global warming hiatus period. The rapid warming cause solid state water (snow, ice, glacier, and permafrost) to shrink, leading to increase in meltwater and there have been found more frequent incidences of flash floods, landslides, livestock diseases, and other disasters in the HKH region. Increasing awareness of climate change over the HKH region is reached a consensus. Meanwhile, the HKH region is often referred to as the water towers of Asia as many highaltitude regions store its water in the form of snow and/or glacier, feeding ten major large rivers in Asia. Therefore, the impacts of climate change on water availability in these river basins have huge influences on the livelihood of large number of population, especially in downstream regions. However, the scarcity of basic hydro-meteorological observations particularly in high-altitude regions of HKH limits rigorous analysis of climate change. Most studies used reanalysis data and/or model-reconstructed products to explore the spatial and temporal characteristics of hydro-meteorological processes, especially for extreme events. 9Downscaled climate change projections for the Hindu Kush Himalayan region using CORDEX South Asia regional climate models显示文摘This study assessed the regional climate models (RCMs) employed in the Coordinated Regional climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) South Asia framework to investigate the qualitative aspects of future change in seasonal mean near surface air temperature and precipitation over the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region. These RCMs downscaled a subset of atmosphere ocean coupled global climate models (AOGCMs) in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5 (CMIP5) to higher 50 km spatial resolution over a large domain covering South Asia for two representation concentration pathways (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) future scenarios. The analysis specifically examined and evaluated multi-model and multi-scenario climate change projections over the hilly sub-regions within HKH for the near-future (2036e2065) and far-future (2066e2095) periods. The downscaled multi-RCMs provide relatively better confidence than their driving AOGCMs in projecting the magnitude of seasonal warming for the hilly sub-region within the Karakoram and northwestern Himalaya, with higher projected change of 5.4 C during winter than of 4.9 C during summer monsoon season by the end of 21st century under the high-end emissions (RCP8.5) scenario. There is less agreement among these RCMs on the magnitude of the projected warming over the other sub-regions within HKH for both seasons, particularly associated with higher RCM uncertainty for the hilly sub-region within the central Himalaya. The downscaled multi-RCMs show good consensus and low RCM uncertainty in projecting that the summer monsoon precipitation will intensify by about 22% in the hilly subregion within the southeastern Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau for the far-future period under the RCP8.5 scenario. There is low confidence in the projected changes in the summer monsoon and winter season precipitation over the central Himalaya and in the Karakoram and northwestern Himalaya due to poor consensus and moderate to high RCM uncertainty among the downscaled multi-RCMs. Finally, the RCM related uncertainty is found to be large for the projected changes in seasonal temperature and precipitation over the hilly sub-regions within HKH by the end of this century, suggesting that improving the regional processes and feedbacks in RCMs are essential for narrowing the uncertainty, and for providing more reliable regional climate change projections suitable for impact assessments in HKH region.Jayanarayanan SANJAY Raghavan KRISHNAN Arun Bhakta SHRESTHA Rupak RAJBHANDARI REN Guo-Yu 2017Advances in Climate Change Research2017,8,3:3
10Soil-Landscape Estimation and Evaluation Program(SLEEP)to predict spatial distribution of soil attributes for environmental modeling显示文摘The spatial distribution of surface and subsurface soil attributes is an important input to environmental modeling.Soil attributes represent an important input to the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT),which influence the accuracy of the modeling outputs.An ArcGIS-based tool was developed to predict soil attributes and provide inputs to SWAT.The essential inputs are digital elevation model and field observations.Legacy soil data/maps can be used to derive observations when recent field surveys are not available.Additional layers,such as satellite images and auxiliary data,improve the prediction accuracy.The model contains a series of steps(menus)to facilitate iterative analysis.The steps are summarized in deriving many terrain attributes to characterize each pixel based on local attributes as well as the characteristics of the contributing area.The model then subdivides the entire watershed into smaller facets(subdivisions of subwatersheds)and classifies these into groups.A linear regression model to predict soil attributes from terrain attributes and auxiliary data are established for each class and implemented to predict soil attributes for each pixel within the class and then merged for the entire watershed or study area.SLEEP(Soil-Landscape Estimation and Evaluation Program)utilizes Pedo-transfer functions to provide the spatial distribution of the necessary unmapped soil data needed for SWAT prediction.An application of the tool demonstrated acceptable accuracy and better spatial distribution of soil attributes compared with two spatial interpolation techniques.The analysis indicated low sensitivity of SWAT prediction to the number of field observations when SLEEP is used to provide the soil layer.This demonstrates the potential of SLEEP to support SWAT modeling where soil data is scarce.Feras M.Ziadat Yeganantham Dhanesh David Shoemate Raghavan Srinivasan Balaji Narasimhan Jaclyn Tech 2015International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2015,8,3:3
11Impacts of climate change on hydrology,water quality and crop productivity in the Ohio-Tennessee River Basin显示文摘Nonpoint source pollution from agriculture is the main source of nitrogen and phosphorus in the stream systems of the Corn Belt region in the Midwestern US.The eastern part of this region is comprised of the Ohio-Tennessee River Basin(OTRB),which is considered a key contributing area for water pollution and the Northern Gulf of Mexico hypoxic zone.A point of crucial importance in this basin is therefore how intensive corn-based cropping systems for food and fuel production can be sustainable and coexist with a healthy water environment,not only under existing climate but also under climate change conditions in the future.To address this issue,a OTRB integrated modeling system has been built with a greatly refined 12-digit subbasin structure based on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)water quality model,which is capable of estimating landscape and in-stream water and pollutant yields in response to a wide array of alternative cropping and/or management strategies and climatic conditions.The effects of three agricultural management scenarios on crop production and pollutant loads exported from the crop land of the OTRB to streams and rivers were evaluated:(1)expansion of continuous corn across the entire basin,(2)adoption of no-till on all corn and soybean fields in the region,(3)implementation of a winter cover crop within the baseline rotations.The effects of each management scenario were evaluated both for current climate and projected mid-century(2046-2065)climates from seven global circulation models(GCMs).In both present and future climates each management scenario resulted in reduced erosion and nutrient loadings to surface water bodies compared to the baseline agricultural management,with cover crops causing the highest water pollution reduction.Corn and soybean yields in the region were negligibly influenced from the agricultural management scenarios.On the other hand,both water quality and crop yield numbers under climate change deviated considerably for all seven GCMs compared to the baseline climate.Future climates from all GCMs led to decreased corn and soybean yields by up to 20%on a mean annual basis,while water quality alterations were either positive or negative depending on the GCM.The study highlights the loss of productivity in the eastern Corn Belt under climate change,the need to consider a range of GCMs when assessing impacts of climate change,and the value of SWAT as a tool to analyze the effects of climate change on parameters of interest at the basin scale.Yiannis Panagopoulos Philip W.Gassman Raymond W.Arritt Daryl E.Herzmann Todd D.Campbell Adriana Valcu Manoj K.Jha Catherine L.Kling Raghavan Srinivasan Michael White Jeffrey G.Arnold 2015International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2015,8,3:2
