Flat Absorber Phosphorous Black Nickel Coatings for Space Applications显示文摘A new process of flat absorber black nickel alloy coating was developed on stainless steel by electrodeposition from a bath containing nickel, zinc and ammonium sulphates;thiocyanate and sodium hypophosphite for space applications.Coating process was optimized by investigating the effects of plating parameters, viz concentration of bath constituents, current density, temperature,pH and plating time on the optical properties of the black deposits.Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed the inclusion of about 6% phosphorous in the coating. The scanning electron microscopy studies revealed the amorphous nature of the coating. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was evaluated by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization (LP) techniques. The results revealed that, phosphorous addition confers better corrosion resistance in comparison to conventional black nickel coatings. The black nickel coating obtained from hypophosphite bath provides high solar absorptance (α s) and infrared emittance (ε IR) of the order of 0.93.Environmental stability to space applications was established by the humidity and thermal cycling tests. | V.Maria Shalini P.Arockiasamy R.Uma Rani A.K.Sharma | 2012 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2012,28,2: | 3

Enhanced Metaheuristics-Based Clustering Scheme for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks显示文摘Traditional Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)comprise of costeffective sensors that can send physical parameters of the target environment to an intended user. With the evolution of technology, multimedia sensor nodes have become the hot research topic since it can continue gathering multimedia content and scalar from the target domain. The existence of multimedia sensors, integrated with effective signal processing and multimedia source coding approaches, has led to the increased application of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network(WMSN).This sort of network has the potential to capture, transmit, and receive multimedia content.Since energy is a major source in WMSN,novel clustering approaches are essential to deal with adaptive topologies of WMSN and prolonged network lifetime. With this motivation, the current study develops an Enhanced Spider Monkey Optimization-based Energy-Aware Clustering Scheme(ESMO-EACS)for WMSN.The proposed ESMO-EACS model derives ESMO algorithm by incorporating the concepts of SMO algorithm and quantum computing. The proposed ESMO-EACS model involves the design of fitness functions using distinct input parameters for effective construction of clusters.A comprehensive experimental analysis was conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed ESMO-EACS technique in terms of different performance measures. The simulation outcome established the superiority of the proposed ESMO-EACS technique to other methods under various measures. | R.Uma Mageswari Sara A.Althubiti Fayadh Alenezi E.Laxmi Lydia Gyanendra Prasad Joshi Woong Cho | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,11: | 0
Morphological parameters and genetic diversity of progenies from seed production areas and unimproved stands of teak(Tectona grandis L.f.)in India显示文摘We compared morphological and genetic attributes of progeny obtained from three seed production areas(SPAs) and three corresponding unimproved stands(UIS) of teak(Tectona grandis L.f) at three broad teak growing regions in the state of Karnataka, India. In general, seed morphological parameters such as seed weight, seed size and seed emptiness were significantly superior in SPAs compared to UISs.Seed germination percentage was also higher in seeds from SPAs.Seedling performance measured at two monthly intervals for six months was observed to be superior in SPAs at two of the three regions compared.Although the genetic diversity of progeny of SPAs was lower than UIS at all regions, the values were moderately high.Germination percent was positively correlated with fruit weight and kernel weight per seed, while diversity indices were negatively correlated with fruit weight, fruit diameter and kernel weight per seed.SPAs proved important as a source of moderately improved planting material with no severe threat to the genetic diversity of future plantations. | N.Lyngdoh Geeta Joshi G.Ravikanth R.Vasudeva R.Uma Shaanker | 2013 | Journal of Forestry Research2013,24,4: | 0
Floral resources, pollinators and fruiting in a threatened tropical deciduous tree显示文摘Nothapodytes nimmoniana(Family Icacinaceae)is a deciduous tree species distributed in Asia facing severe population decline.Wood chips from the tree are a source of camptothecin,a globally soughtafter alkaloid with cancer-treating properties, and are harvested unsustainably in natural forests. We studied the pollination ecology of the species and asked if there are constraints in pollination and fruiting success in its natural populations. We also discuss the potential effects of wood extraction on pollinators and reproductive success in the population. Methods The study was carried out during the flowering season in two populations with varying exploitation levels, both located in the Protected Area Network in the Western Ghats of Karnataka State. We assessed floral resource availability and measured pollinator diversity and activity in the canopy from the perspective of the biology of the species. We quantified pollinator abundance and percent fruit set as a function of population density.Important Findings Flowers belong to the fly pollination syndrome and are open to visits by generalists such as Apis dorsata and Trigona iridipennis.Fruiting success did not vary between exploited and unexploited sites, but there was a significant difference in pollinator assemblage. In a lean male flowering year, fruit set was low, suggesting pollen limitation in the population. No fruiting was recorded in the second year at the site where trees were felled soon after the flowering period. We argue that when male floral resources are altered in exploited populations, pollinators of generalist nature may show a shift in foraging pattern. Also, generalist plants may be as susceptible to pollination loss as are specialist plants. The need for outcrossing in the species would probably exacerbate this vulnerability. | Manju V.Sharma R.Uma Shaanker Simon R.Leather R.Vasudeva Kundaranahalli R.Shivanna | 2011 | Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4: | 0
Truncation and Rounding-Based Scalable Approximate Multiplier Design for Computer Imaging Applications显示文摘Advanced technology used for arithmetic computing application, comprises greater number of approximatemultipliers and approximate adders.Truncation and Rounding-based Scalable ApproximateMultiplier(TRSAM)distinguish a variety of modes based on height(h)and truncation(t)as TRSAM(h,t)in the architecture. This TRSAM operation produces higher absolute error in Least Significant Bit(LSB)data shift unit.A new scalable approximate multiplier approach that uses truncation and rounding TRSAM(3,7)is proposed to increase themultiplier accuracy. With the help of foremost one bit architecture, the proposed scalable approximate multiplier approach reduces the partial products. The proposed approximate TRSAM multiplier architecture gives better results in terms of area, delay, and power. The accuracy of 95.2%and the energy utilization of 24.6 nJ is observed in the proposed multiplier design. The proposed approach shows 0.11%,0.23%,and 0.24%less Mean Absolute Relative Error(MARE)when compared with the existing approach for the input of 8-bit,16-bit,and 32-bit respectively. It also shows 0.13%,0.19%,and 0.2%less Variance of Absolute Relative Error(VARE)when compared with the existing approach for the input of 8-bit,16-bit,and 32-bit respectively. The proposed approach is implemented with Field-Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)and shows the delay of 3.640,6.481,12.505,22.572,and 36.893 ns for the input of 8-bit,16-bit,32-bit,64-bit,and 128-bit respectively. The proposed approach is applied in digital filters designwhich shows the Peak-Signal-to-NoiseRatio(PSNR)of 25.05 dB and Structural Similarity Index Measure(SSIM)of 0.98 with 393 pJ energy consumptions when used in image application. The proposed approach is simulated with Xilinx and MATLAB and implemented with FPGA. | S.Rooban A.Yamini Naga Ratnam M.V.S.Ramprasad N.Subbulakshmi R.Uma Mageswari | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,12: | 0
