1Relationship between intestinal microbiota and ulcerative colitis:Mechanisms and clinical application of probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation显示文摘Ulcerative colitis(UC) is an inflammatory disease that mainly affects the colon and rectum. It is believed that genetic factors, host immune system disorders, intestinal microbiota dysbiosis, and environmental factors contribute to the pathogenesis of UC. however, studies on the role of intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of UC have been inconclusive. Studies have shown that probiotics improve intestinal mucosa barrier function and immune system function and promote secretion of anti-inflammatory factors, thereby inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestine. Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT) can reduce bowel permeability and thus the severity of disease by increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate, which help maintain the integrity of the epithelial barrier. FMT can also restore immune dysbiosis by inhibiting Th1 differentiation, activity of T cells, leukocyte adhesion, and production of inflammatory factors. Probiotics and FMT are being increasingly used to treat UC, but their use is controversial because of uncertain efficacy. 3Effect of Boschniakia rossica on expression of GSTP,p53 and p21^(ras)proteins in early stage of chemical hepatocarcinogenesis and its anti-inflammatory activities in rats显示文摘AIM To investigate the effect of Boschniakiarossica(BR)extract on expression of GST-P,p53 and p21rasproteins in early stage of chemicalhepatocarcinogenesis in rats and its anti-inflammatory activities.METHODS The expression of tumor marker-placental form glutathione S-transferase(GST-P),p53 and p21rasproteins were investigated byimmunohistochemical techniques and ABCmethod.Anti-inflammatory activities of BR werestudied by xylene and croton oil-induced mouseear edema,carrageenin,histamine and hotscald-induced rat pow edema,adjuvant-inducedrat arthritis and cotton pellet-induced mousegranuloma formation methods.RESULTS The 500 mg/kg of BR-H2O extractfractionated from BR-Methanol extract hadinhibitory effect on the formation of DEN-inducedGST-P-positive foci in rat liver(GST-P stainingwas 78% positive in DEN+AAF group vs 20%positive in DEN+AAF+BR group,P<0.05)andthe expression of mutant p53 and p21rasproteinwas lower than that of hepatic preneoplasticlesions(33% and 22% positive respectively inDEN+AAF group vs negative in DEN+AAF+BRgroup).Both CH2Cl2 and H2O extracts from BRhad anti-inflamatory effect in xylene and crotonoil-induced mouse ear edema(inhibitory rateswere 26%-29% and 35%-59%,respectively). BR-H2O extract exhibited inhibitory effect incarrageenin,histamine and hot scald-inducedhind paw edema and adjuvant-induced arthritis inrats and cotton pellet-induced granulomaformation in mice.CONCLUSION BR extract exhibited inhibitory effect on formation of preneoplastic hepatic foci in early stage of rat chemical hepato-carcinogenesis. 4Photo-curing 3D printing technique and its challenges显示文摘In recent ten years,3D printing technology has been developed rapidly.As an advanced technology,3D printing has been used to fabricate complex and high-precision objects in many fields.3D printing has several technologies.Among these technologies,photo-curing 3D printing was the earliest and most mature technology.In 1988,the first 3D printing machine which was based on photo-curing and called Stereo lithography Appearance(SLA)technology was produced by 3D system Corp.After 30 years of development,many new technologies based on photocuring mechanism emerged.Based on the different principle of pattern formation and character of printing technology,numerous photocuring 3D printing techniques,such as SLA,DLP,LCD,CLIP,MJP,twophoton 3D printing,holographic 3D printing and so on,have been developed.Photo-curing 3D printing has many advantages,such as high precision,smooth surface of printing objects,rapid printing speed and so on.Here,we would introduce five industrial photocuring 3D printing technologies,which are SLA,DLP,LCD,CLIP and MJP.The characters of the materials and the progress of the application of the technique in the biomedical field is also overviewed.At last,the difficulties and challenges of photo-curing 3D printing are also discussed.Haoyuan Quan Ting Zhang Hang Xu Shen Luo Jun Nie Xiaoqun Zhu 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,1:33

8Antioxidant properties of magnesium lithospermate B contribute to the cardioprotection against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in vivo and in vitro显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine the cardioprotective effect of magnesium lithospermate B (MLB) on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury and to investigate the antioxidant potential in vivo and in vitro. METHODS: MI/R injury was induced by the occlusion of left anterior descending coronary artery for 30 min followed by reperfusion for 3 h in rats. After reperfusion, hearts were harvested to assess infarct size, histopathological damages, the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), reduced glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Blood samples were col- lected to determine serum levels of creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), cardiac troponin (cTnI) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Furthermore, simulatedischemia/reperfusion (SI/R) injury in vitro was established by oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) for 2 h followed by 24-hour recovery period in cardiomyocytes. The activity of LDH in the cultured supernatant and the levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), SOD and MDA in cardiomyocytes were also measured. Finally, cardiomyocytes apoptosis was determined with flow cytometry. RESULTS: MLB significantly limited infarct size, ameliorated histopathological damages and prevented leakage of CK-MB, cTnI and LDH. Additionally, SOD, CAT, GPx and GSH activities were notably increased by MLB, along with the MDA content decreased as compared with the model group in rats. In vitro study, MLB also decreased LDH activity in the cultured supernatant, increased SOD activity in cardiomyocytes, reduced intracellular ROS and MDA levels, and significantly suppressed cardiomyocytes apoptosis. CONCLUSION: MLB possessed remarkably cardioprotective effects on MI/R injury in vivo and in vitro. 9Land Suitability Assessment and Land Use Change in Fujian Province,China显示文摘To present the current status of land quality and distribution and the trends in land use change, the physical suitability of cropland and forestland and the associated changes in Fujian Province were evaluated and analyzed using data obtained from geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS).Of the total land area of Fujian Province,first class suitable cropland accounted for only 4.21%, whereas unsuitable cropland accounted for 84.78%. The percentage of first class suitable cropland in the southeastern region (5.32%) was much higher than that in the northwestern area (2.91%).Only 13.63% of the existing cropland area consisted of first class cropland and 70.08% was classified as unsuitable for cultivation.Of the total land area of Fujian Province,the first class forestland comprised 55.25% and the unsuitable forestland (including third class) comprised 21.2%.The percentage of unsuitable forest area in the existing forestland was only 5.5%.From 1996 to 2001, cropland and unused land decreased significantly, whereas forestland and land used for urban and transport increased rapidly.Therefore,the major tasks ahead will be the land development for full grain production potential,the better coordination of allocating land to different uses, and the regulation inappropriate activities that damage agricultural ecosystems.QUAN Bin ZHU He-Jian CHEN Song-Lin M. 10Natural Variation in CCD4 Promoter Underpins Species-Specific Evolution of Red Coloration in Citrus Peel显示文摘Carotenoids and apocarotenoids act as phytohormones and volatile precursors that influence plant development and confer aesthetic and nutritional value critical to consumer preference.Citrus fruits display considerable natural variation in carotenoid and apocarotenoid pigments.In this study,using an integrated genetic approach we revealed that a 5;c/s-regulatory change at CCD4b encoding CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE 4b is a major genetic determinant of natural variation in C3 0 apocarotenoids responsible for red coloration of citrus peel.Functional analyses demonstrated that in addition the known role in synthesizing 3-citraurin,CCD4b is also responsible for the production of another important C3 0 apocarotenoid pigment,p-citraurinene.Furthermore,analyses of the CCD4b promoter and transcripts from various citrus germplasm accessions established a tight correlation between the presence of a putative 5'c/s-regulatory enhancer within an MITE transposon and the enhanced allelic expression of CCD4b in C3 0 apocarotenoid-rich red-peeled accessions.Phylogenetic analysis provided further evidence that functional diversification of CCD4b and naturally occurring variation of the CCD4b promoter resulted in the stepwise evolution of red peels in mandarins and their hybrids.Taken together,our findings provide new insights into the genetic and evolutionary basis of apocarotenoid diversity in plants,and would facilitate breeding efforts that aim to improve the nutritional and aesthetic value of citrus and perhaps other fruit crops.Xiongjie Zheng Kaijie Zhu Quan Sun Weiyi Zhang Xia Wang Hongbo Cao Meilian Tan Zongzhou Xie Yunliu Zeng Junli Ye Lijun Chai Qiang Xu Zhiyong Pan Shunyuan Xiao Paul D.Fraser Xiuxin Deng 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,9:18
11Beclin 1 cleavage by caspase-3 inactivates autophagy and promotes apoptosis显示文摘Autophagy and apoptosis are both highly regulated biological processes that play essential roles in tissue homeostasis,development and diseases.Autophagy is also described as a mechanism of death pathways,however,the precise mechanism of how autophagy links to cell death remains to be fully understood.Beclin 1 is a dual regulator for both autophagy and apoptosis.In this study we found that Beclin 1 was a substrate of caspase-3 with two cleavage sites at positions 124 and 149,respectively.Furthermore,the autophagosome formation occurred,followed by the appearance of morphological hallmarks of apoptosis after staurosporine treatment.The cleavage products of Beclin 1 reduced autophagy and promoted apoptosis in HeLa cells and the cells in which Beclin 1 was stably knocked down by specific shRNA.In addition,the cleavage of Beclin 1 resulted in abrogating the interaction between Bcl-2 with Beclin 1,which could be blocked by z-VAD-fmk.Thus,our results suggest that the cleavage of Beclin 1 by caspase-3 may contribute to inactivate autophagy leading towards augmented apoptosis.Yushan Zhu Lixia Zhao Lei Liu Ping Gao Weili Tian Xiaohui Wang Haijing Jin Haidong Xu Quan Chen 2010Protein & Cell2010,1,5:17
12Surgical approaches for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis:feasibility of complete video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy in comparison with trans-sternal resection显示文摘Complete resection could be achieved in virtually all myasthenic patients with Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma using the trans-sternal technique.Whether this is appropriate for minimally invasive approach is not yet clear.We evaluated the feasibility of complete video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy for the treatment of Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis,compared to conventional trans-sternal thymectomy.We summarized 33 patients with Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis between April 2006 and September 2011.Of these,15 patients underwent right-sided complete VATS (the VATS group) by using adjuvant pneuomomediastinum,comparing with 18 patients using the trans-sternal approach (the T3b group).No intraoperative death was found and no VATS case required conversion to median sternotomy.Significant differences between the two groups regarding duration of surgery and volume of intraoperative blood loss (P=0.001 and P < 0.001,respectively) were observed.Postoperative morbidities were 26.7% and 33.3% for the VATS and T3b groups,respectively.All 33 patients were followed up for 12 to 61 months in the study.The cumulative probabilities of reaching complete stable remission and effective rate were 26.7% (4/15) and 93.3% (14/15) in the VATS group,which had a significantly higher complete stable remission and effective rate than those in the T3b group (P=0.026 and P=0.000,respectively).We conclude that VATS thymectomy utilizing adjuvant pneuomomediastinum for the treatment of stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis is technically feasible but deserves further investigation in a large series with long-term follow-up.Zhicheng He Quan Zhu Wei Wen Liang Chen Hai Xu Hai Li 2013The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1:15

The three key points in establishing a tissue engineering material are the biological scaffold material, the seed cells and various growth factors. Understanding the type of nerve injury, the construction of scaffold and the process of repair are necessary to solve peripheral nerve injury and promote its regeneration. 14Large-scale analysis of small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese herbs in human tissues显示文摘Plant-derived microRNAs have recently been reported to function in human blood and tissues. Controversy was immediately raised due to possible contamination and the lack of large sample sizes. Here, we report thousands of unique small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) herbs found in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues using a large-scale analysis.We extracted small RNAs from decoctions of 10 TCM plants(Ban Zhi Lian, Chai Hu, Chuan Xin Lian, Di Ding Zi Jin, Huang Qin, Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Pu Gong Ying, Xia Ku Cao, and Yu Xing Cao) and obtained millions of RNA sequences from each herb. We also obtained RNA-Seq data from the blood cells of humans who consumed herbal decoctions and from the lung tissues of mice administered RNAs from herbal decoctions via oral gavage. We identified thousands of unique small RNA sequences in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues. Some of these identified small RNAs from Chuan Xin Lian and Hong Jing Tian could be mapped to the genomes of the herbs, confirming their TCM plant origin.
