2Paleoclimate and Paleoenvironment of Gonghe Basin, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, During the Lastdeglacial: Weathering, Erosion and Vegetation Cover Affect Clay Mineral Formation显示文摘With the analysis of the sources and formation mechanism of the clay minerals in the sediment core from the Dalianhai lake in the Gonghe Basin, northeastern Tibet-Qinghai Plateau, clay mineral composition proxies, grain-size and carbonate contents have been employed for highresolution study in order to reconstruct East Asian Summer Monsoon(EASM) over the northeastern Tibet-Qinghai Plateau during the lastdeglacial. The study also extended to establish a relationship between vegetation cover changes and erosion during the last 14.5 ka with pollen record and clay mineral proxies. Smectite/kaolinite and smectite/(illite+chlorite) ratios allow us to assess hydrolysis conditions in lowlands and/or physical erosion process in highlands of the Gonghe Basin. Before 12.9 Cal ka BP, both mineralogical ratios show low values indicative of strong physical erosion in the basin with a dominant cold and dry phase. After 12.9 Cal ka BP, an increase in both mineralogical ratios indicates enhanced chemical weathering in the basin associated with a warm and humid climate. The beginning of Holocene is characterized by high smectite/(illite+chlorite) and smectite/kaolinite ratios that is synchronous as with deposition of many peat laminae, implying the best warm and humid conditions specifically between 8.0 to 5.5 Cal ka BP. The time interval after 5.0 Cal ka BP is characterized by a return to high physical erosion and low chemical weathering with dry climate conditions in the basin. Comparing variations of clay mineral assemblages with previous pollen results, we observe a rapid response in terms of chemical weathering and physical erosion intensity to a modification of the vegetation cover in the basin.SUN Qingfeng Christophe COLIN 2014Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2014,88,2:6

5Relationships between the sound speed ratio and physical properties of surface sediments in the South Yellow Sea显示文摘Building empirical equations is an effective way to link the acoustic and physical properties of sediments.These equations play an important role in the prediction of sediments sound speeds required in underwater acoustics.Although many empirical equations coupling acoustic and physical properties have been developed over the past few decades,further confirmation of their applicability by obtaining large amounts of data,especially for equations based on in situ acoustic measurement techniques,is required.A sediment acoustic survey in the South Yellow Sea from 2009 to 2010 revealed statistical relationships between the in situ sound speed and sediment physical properties.To improve the comparability of these relationships with existing empirical equations,the present study calculated the ratio of the in situ sediment sound speed to the bottom seawater sound speed,and established the relationships between the sound speed ratio and the mean grain size,density and porosity of the sediment.The sound speed of seawater at in situ measurement stations was calculated using a perennially averaged seawater sound speed map by an interpolation method.Moreover,empirical relations between the index of impedance and the sound speed and the physical properties were established.The results confirmed that the existing empirical equations between the in situ sound speed ratio and the density and porosity have general suitability for application.This study also considered that a multiple-parameter equation coupling the sound speed ratio to both the porosity and the mean grain size may be more useful for predicting the sound speed than an equation coupling the sound speed ratio to the mean grain size.Guanbao Li Jingqiang Wang Xiangmei Meng Baohua Liu Guangming Kan Guozhong Han Qingfeng Hua Yanliang Pei Lei Sun 2021Acta Oceanologica Sinica2021,40,4:2
6A quasi-3D Fano resonance cavity on optical fiber end-facet for high signal-to-noise ratio dip-and-read surface plasmon sensing显示文摘Surface plasmon devices mounted at the end-facets of optical fibers are appealing candidates for rapid and point-of-care sensing applications,by offering a special dip-and-read operation mode.At present,these devices’noise-equivalent limits-of-detection lag far behind the free-space counterparts,leaving them incapable of most biosensing applications.Here we report a quasi-3D Fano resonance cavity and its fabrication method to fundamentally improve the quality factor and coupling efficiency for fiber-coupled surface plasmon resonance.In this device,the Fano resonance combines the high coupling efficiency of a Fabry-Pérot etalon and the high quality factor resonance of a plasmonic crystal cavity.The quasi-3D device was fabricated on a planar substrate and transferred to a single-mode fiber end-facet,which requires a low-adhesion yet surface-plasmon-tunneling interface between the device and the planar substrate.Such an interface was realized with a nanocap-slit unit structure,of which the plasmonic crystal was consisted.A noise-equivalent limit of detection of~10-7 RIU was experimentally obtained,allowing bovine serum albumin physical adsorption to be distinguished at ng mL-1 level concentrations.Therefore,breaking through the long-standing signal-to-noise ratio bottleneck,this work makes fiber end-facet surface plasmon devices into one of high sensitivity label-free sensing technologies.At the same time,it provides an enabling top-down fabrication technology for making 3D plasmonic structures on fiber end-facets at the nanometer scale.Xiaqing Sun Zeyu Lei Hao Zhong Chenjia He Sihang Liu Qingfeng Meng Qingwei Liu Shengfu Chen Xiangyang Kong Tian Yang 2022Light(Advanced Manufacturing)2022,3,4:2

8A better carbon-water flux simulation in multiple vegetation types by data assimilation显示文摘Background:The accurate estimation of carbon-water flux is critical for understanding the carbon and water cycles of terrestrial ecosystems and further mitigating climate change.Model simulations and observations have been widely used to research water and carbon cycles of terrestrial ecosystems.Given the advantages and limitations of each method,combining simulations and observations through a data assimilation technique has been proven to be highly promising for improving carbon-water flux simulation.However,to the best of our knowledge,few studies have accomplished both parameter optimization and the updating of model state variables through data assimilation for carbon-water flux simulation in multiple vegetation types.And little is known about the variation of the performance of data assimilation for carbon-water flux simulation in different vegetation types.Methods:In this study,we assimilated leaf area index(LAI)time-series observations into a biogeochemical model(Biome-BGC)using different assimilation algorithms(ensemble Kalman filter algorithm(EnKF)and unscented Kalman filter(UKF))in different vegetation types(deciduous broad-leaved forest(DBF),evergreen broad-leaved forest(EBF)and grassland(GL))to simulate carbon-water flux.Results:The validation of the results against the eddy covariance measurements indicated that,overall,compared with the original simulation,assimilating the LAI into the Biome-BGC model improved the carbon-water flux simulations(R^(2)increased by 35%,root mean square error decreased by 10%;the sum of the absolute error decreased by 8%)but more significantly,improved the water flux simulations(R^(2)increased by 31%,root mean square error decreased by 18%;the sum of the absolute error decreased by 16%).Among the different forest types,the data assimilation techniques(both EnKF and UKF)achieved the best performance towards carbon-water flux in EBF(R^(2)increased by 44%,root mean square error decreased by 24%;the sum of the absolute error decreased by 28%),and the performances of EnKF and UKF showed slightly different when simulating carbon fluxes.Conclusion:We suggest that to reduce the uncertainty in global carbon-water flux quantification,forthcoming data assimilation treatment should consider the vegetation types where the data assimilation experiments are carried out,the simulated objectives and the assimilation algorithms.Qiuyu Liu Tinglong Zhang Mingxi Du Huanlin Gao Qingfeng Zhang Rui Sun 2022Forest Ecosystems2022,9,1:1

11Biomass Homogeneity Reinforced Carbon Aerogels Derived Functional Phase-Change Materials for Solar–Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage显示文摘We deviseda functional form stable compositephase-change materials(PCMs)toachieve a three-dimensional(3D)interconnectedporous carbon aerogel structure for encapsulating polyethyleneglycol(PEG).Anovelhomogeneity reinforced carbonaerogel witha well-interconnected porous structure was constructed bycombining a flexible carbonresource from biomass guar gum with hard-brittle carbonfrom polyimide,to overcome severeshrinkage andpoor mechanical performance of traditionalcarbon aerogel.Thesupportingcarbon aerogel-encapsulated PEG produced thenovel composite PCMswithgood structure stability andcomprehensive energy storage performance.Theresults showed thatthecomposite PCMsdisplayed awell-defined 3Dinterconnected structure,and theirenergy storage capacities were 171.5 and169.5 J/g,which changed onlyslightlyafter 100 thermalcycles,andthe compositescould maintainthe equilibrium temperature at50.0−58.1℃ for about 760.3 s.The thermal conductivityofthe compositescould reach0.62 W m^(−1) K^(−1),which effectively enhanced the thermalresponse rate.And thecomposite PCMs exhibited good leakage-proof performance andexcellent light–thermal conversion.The compressive strengthof thecomposite PCMscan improveupto 1.602 MPa.Results indicatethatthisstrategy canbe efficiently usedtodevelop novel composite PCMswithimproved comprehensive thermalperformance and high light–thermal conversion.Qingfeng Zhang Tingfeng Xia Qihan Zhang Yucao Zhu Huanzhi Zhang Fen Xu Lixian Sun Xiaodong Wang Yongpeng Xia Xiangcheng Lin Hongliang Peng Pengru Huang Yongjin Zou Hailiang Chu Bin Li 2023Energy & Environmental Materials2023,6,1:1

18Science with the 2.5-meter Wide Field Survey Telescope(WFST)显示文摘The Wide Field Survey Telescope(WFST) is a dedicated photometric surveying facility being built jointly by University of Science and Technology of China(USTC) and the Purple Mountain Observatory(PMO). It is equipped with a 2.5-meter diameter primary mirror, an active optics system, and a mosaic CCD camera with 0.73 gigapixels on the primary focal plane for highquality image capture over a 6.5-square-degree field of view. The installation of WFST near the summit of Saishiteng mountain in the Lenghu region is scheduled in summer of 2023, and the operation is planned to start three months later. WFST will scan the northern sky in four optical bands(u, g, r and i) at cadences from hourly/daily in the deep high-cadence survey(DHS) program, to semi-weekly in the wide field survey(WFS) program. During a photometric night, a nominal 30 s exposure in the WFS program will reach a depth of 22.27, 23.32, 22.84, and 22.31(AB magnitudes) in these four bands, respectively, allowing for the detection of a tremendous amount of transients in the low-z universe and a systematic investigation of the variability of Galactic and extragalactic objects. In the DHS program, intranight 90 s exposures as deep as 23(u) and 24 mag(g), in combination with target of opportunity follow-ups, will provide a unique opportunity to explore energetic transients in demand for high sensitivities, including the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave events, supernovae within a few hours of their explosions,tidal disruption events and fast, luminous optical transients even beyond redshift of unity. In addition, the final 6-year co-added images, anticipated to reach g■25.8 mag in WFS or 1.5 mags deeper in DHS, will be of fundamental importance to general Galactic and extragalactic science. The highly uniform legacy surveys of WFST will serve as an indispensable complement to those of the Vera C.
