| 1 | Characterization of 500 Chinese patients with cervical esophageal cancer by clinicopathological and treatment outcomes显示文摘Objective: There are no comprehensive studies on survival outcomes and optimal treatment protocols for cervical esophageal cancer(CEC), due to its rare clinical prevalence. Our objective was to determine the relationship between pathological characteristics, treatment protocols, and survival outcomes in Chinese CEC patients.Methods: A total of 500 Chinese CEC patients were selected from our 500,000 esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma database(1973–2018). There were two main groups: patients treated with surgery, and patients receiving non-surgical treatments(radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy, and chemotherapy). The Chi-square test and Kaplan–Meier method were used to compare the continuous variables and survival.Results: Among the 500 CEC patients, 278(55.6%) were male, and the median age was 60.9 ± 9.4 years. A total of 496 patients(99.2%) were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. In 171(34.2%) patients who received surgery, 22(12.9%) had undergone laryngectomy. In 322(64.4%) patients who received non-surgical treatments, 245(76.1%) received radiotherapy. Stratified survival analysis showed that only T stage was related with survival outcomes for CEC patients in the surgical group, and the outcomes between laryngectomy and non-laryngectomy patients were similar. It was noteworthy that the 5-year survival rate was similar in CEC patients among the different groups treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiochemotherapy(P = 0.244). Conclusions: The CEC patients had similar survival outcomes after curative esophagectomy and radiotherapy, including those with or without total laryngectomy. | 2 | Rapid communication Preparation of TiO_2 nanometer thin films with high photocatalytic activity by reverse micellar method显示文摘Two kinds of TiO2 nanometer thin films were prepared on stainless steel by the reverse micellar and sol-gelmethods, respectively. The calcined TiO2 thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force micros-copy (AFM), BET surface area and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Photocatalytic activity was evaluated byphotocatalytic decoloration of methyl orange aqueous solution. The results showed that the TiO2 thin films prepared by re-verse micellar method (designated as RM-TiO2 films) showed higher photocatalytic activity than those by sol-gel method(designated as SG-TiO2 films). | 5 | A Dynamic and Quantitative Study of Pattern Visual Evoked Potentials and Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid Neurones in the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus and the Visual Cortex of Monocular Deprivation Cats显示文摘Purpose: To assess the effects of monocular lid closure during critical period on cortical activity.Method: Pattern visual evoked potentials (PVEP) of the normal and the monocular deprivation (MD) cats were dynamically measured and the number of gam-maaminobutyric acid immunopositive (GABA-IP) neurones of the area 17 of the visual cortex and the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) was quantitatively compared by using immunohistochemical method (ABC).Result: The amplitude of the N1-P1 attenuated in deprived eyes (DE) , NE/DE at postnatal week (PNW) 7-8 (P<0. 05), NE/DE at PNW 15-16 (P<0. 01); while P1 latency delayed, NE/DE at PNW 7-8 (P>0. 05), NE/DE at PNW 15 - 16(P<0. 05). | 10 | Different patterns of agonist-induced modulation of α_(1B)-adrenoceptor density at different initial expression levels显示文摘We compared the norepinephrine (NE) induced α1B-adrenoceptor (α1B-AR) expression modulation between two transfected human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cell lines in which α1B-AR densities were (6 336 ±913) and (773±164) fmol · mg -1, respectively. Treatment of cells with NE (10 μmol · L1) for 48 h decreased high-level expressed α1B-AR density, but increased low-level expressed α1B-AR density. The protein kinase C inhibitor Calphostin C or Ro-31-8220 reversed, and its activator PMA mimicked the NE-induced down-regulation of high-level expressed α1B-AR. Moreover, PMA induced a down-regulation of low-level expressed α1B-AR. The endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase inhibitor cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) and the calcium chelator BAPTA/AM did not affect the down-regulation of high-level expressed α1B-AR, but inhibited the up-regulation of low-level expression α1B-AR induced by NE.
