Sagaing Fault slip and deformation in Myanmar observed by continuous GPS measurements显示文摘The Sagaing Fault is a major tectonic structure between the Indian Plate and Sunda Plate. The fault measures 1200 km along north-south and cuts through the centre of Myanmar. Many urban areas lie along the fault. As a result,Myanmar has established a continuous Global Positioning System(cGPS) network across the Sagaing Fault since 2011.The cGPS network consists of eight cGPS stations that form two transects across the fault. The data analysis covers a period of four years from 2011 to 2014.GAMIT,GLOBK,and TRACK software suite packages are used for GPS data processing and analysis. This study consists of two main objectives. The first objective is to analyse the Myanmar cGPS network observations in order to measure the moving rate and direction of movement for each cGPS station using GAMIT/GLOBK software packages. The second objective is to investigate the co-seismic moving rate associated with the earthquake event using TRACK kinematic positioning program. The analysis results indicate that the east side of the Sagaing Fault moves southeastward at the average rate of approximately 32-40 mm/a,whereas the west side of the fault moves northeastward at the rate of about 31-35 mm/a.For co-seismic analysis, two cGPS stations are analysed in connection with the 2012 M6.8 Thabeikkyin earthquake. These stations are located 50-60 km away from the epicentre. The GPS data analysis clearly showed that the station at the east side of the Sagaing Fault immediately moved south by 15.0 cm,whereas the station at the west side of the fault moved north by3.0 cm.In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the Sagaing Fault's tectonic activities can be monitored by cGPS observations using geodetic processing techniques. We believe that such investigation brings contribution to better understand of the tectonic activities in Myanmar and South East Asia. | Pyae Sone Aung Chalermchon Satirapod Constantin-Octavian Andrei | 2016 | Geodesy and Geodynamics2016,7,1: | 4
Contributions to the flora of Myanmar from 2000 to 2019显示文摘Myanmar is botanically rich and floristically diverse:one of the world's biodiversity hotspots. However,Myanmar is still very unevenly explored, and until a plant checklist was published in 2003,relatively little work was done on its flora. This checklist included 11,800 species of spermatophytes in 273 families.Since this checklist was published, the botanical exploration of Myanmar has accelerated and there have been many additional publications. We therefore surveyed the literature of taxonomic contributions to Myanmar’s vascular flora over the last 20 years(2000e2019)and compiled a list of new and newly described taxa. Our list includes 13 genera,193 species,7 subspecies,19 varieties, and 2 forms new to science;and 3 families,34 genera,347 species,4 subspecies,7 varieties, and 1 form newly recorded in Myanmar.Altogether, they represent 91 families and 320 genera. Most of the new discoveries belong to 15 families, with more than 25%(146 taxa)belonging to Orchidaceae. These new discoveries are unevenly distributed in the country, with about 41%of the newly discovered species described from Kachin State in northeast Myanmar. This reflects the incompleteness of our current knowledge of the flora of Myanmar and the urgent need for a greatly expanded effort. The completion of the flora of Myanmar requires more fieldwork from north to south, taxonomic studies on new and existing collections, and some mechanism that both coordinates the efforts of various international institutions and initiatives and encourages continued international cooperation. In addition, producing modern taxonomic treatments of the flora of Myanmar requires the participation of experts on all vascular plant families and genera. There is also an urgent need to attract young scientists to plant taxonomy,to work on inventories, identification, nomenclature, herbarium work, and comparative studies. | Bin Yang Min Deng Ming-Xia Zhang Aung Zaw Moe Hong-Bo Ding Mya Bhone Maw Pyae Pyae Win Richard TCorlett Yun-Hong Tan | 2020 | Plant Diversity2020,42,4: | 2

Forest insect assemblages attracted to light trap on two high mountains(Mt. Jirisan and Mt. Hallasan) in South Korea显示文摘Assemblages of forest insects across two high mountains(Mt.Hallasan:JJ and Mt.Jirisan:JR) in South Korea were compared by collecting insects using an ultraviolet light trap at 20 sites(200–1700 m elevation ranges) from May to October 2013.A total of 2960 individuals, representing 481 species of 10 orders, were collected on JJ,compared with 7080 individuals representing769 species of 14 orders on JR.The estimated number of species on JJ was 667 compared with 952 on JR.The differentiation among habitats(b-diversity) was higher on JJ(4.95) than JR(4.33) because of the island characteristics of JJ.Six insect orders(Lepidoptera,Coleoptera,Diptera,Hymenoptera,Hemiptera and Trichoptera) were dominant on both mountains, suggesting that the light trap captures represented well the insect fauna and is an effective method for investigating forest insect diversity. We concluded that forest insect assemblages on mountains are mainly affected by the elevation and the dominant forest in each elevation. In addition, the insect fauna on each mountain was differentiated by the habitat, which could be correlated with geological history. | Pyae Pyae Thein Sei-Woong Choi | 2016 | Journal of Forestry Research2016,27,5: | 0
Predictors of malaria rapid diagnostic test positivity in a high burden area of Paletwa Township, Chin State in Western Myanmar显示文摘Background:Despite major reductions in malaria burden across Myanmar, clusters of the disease continue to persist in specific subregions. This study aimed to assess the predictors of test positivity among people living in Paletwa Township of Chin State,an area of persistently high malaria burden. Methods:Four villages with the highest malaria incidence from Paletwa Town ship were purposively selected. The characteristics of 1045 subjects seeking malaria diagnosis from the four assigned village health volunteers from January to December,2018 were retrospectively analyzed.Their household conditions and surroundings were also recorded using a checklist.Descriptive statistics and logistic regression models were applied to investigate potential associations between individual and household characteristics and malaria diagnosis. Results:In 2017,the Paletwa township presented 20.9%positivity and an annual parasite index of 46.9 cases per 1000 people.Plasmodium falciparum was the predominant species and accounted for more than 80.0%of all infections.Among 1045 people presenting at a clinic with malaria symptoms,31.1% were diagnosed with malaria.Predictors for test positivity included living in a hut[adjusted odds ratios(aOR):2.3,95%confidence intervals(CI ):1.2-4.6],owning farm animals(aOR:1.7,95% CI:1.1-3.6),using non-septic type of toilets(aOR:1.9,95%CI:1.1-8.4),presenting with fever(aOR:1.9,95%CI:1.1-3.0),having a malaria episode within the last year(aOR:2.9,95%CI:1.45.8),traveling outside the village in the previous 14 days (aOR:4.5,95%CI:1.5-13.4),and not using bed nets(aOR:3.4,95%CI:2.3-5.1).There were no statistically significant differences by age or gender in this present analysis. Conclusions:The results from this study, including a high proportion of P.falciparum infections, little difference in age, sex,or occupation, suggest that malaria is a major burden for these study villages.Targeted health education campaigns should be introduced to strengthen synchronous diagnosis-seeking behaviors, tighten treatment adheren ce,receiving a diagnosis after traveling to endemic regi ons,and using bed nets properly. We suggest in creased surveillance, early diagnosis, and treatment efforts to control the disease and then to consider the local elimination. | Pyae Linn Aung Myat Thu Soe Thit Lwin Oo Aung Khin AungThi Yan Zhao Yarning Cao Liwang Cui Myat Phone Kyaw Daniel M.Parker | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,1: | 0
Observed characteristics of flow, water mass, and turbulent mixing in the Preparis Channel显示文摘Preparis Channel is the very important exchange path of energy and materials between the northern Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea(AS).A set of hydrographic measurements,a microstructure profiler, and a deep mooring were used to determine the characteristics of water masses, turbulent mixing, and flows in the Preparis Channel. The unprecedented short-term mooring data reveal that a deep current in the deep narrow passage(below 400 m)of the Preparis Channel flows toward the Bay of Bengal(BoB)with a mean along-stream velocity of 25.26 cm/s at depth of 540 m;above the deep current, there are a relatively weak current flows toward the AS with a mean along-stream velocity of 15.46 cm/s between 500 m and 520 m,and another weak current flows toward the BoB between 430 m and 500 m.Thus,a sandwiched vertical structure of deep currents(below 400 m)is present in the Preparis Channel. The volume transport below 400 m is 0.06 Sv(1 Sv=106 m^(3)/s)from the AS to the BoB.In the upper layer(shallower than 300 m),the sea water of the AS is relatively warmer and fresher than that in the BoB,indicating a strong exchange through the channel.Microstructure profiler observations reveal that the turbulent diffusivity in the upper layer of the Preparis Channel reaches O(10−4 m^(2)/s),one order larger than that in the interior of the BoB and over the continental slope of the northern AS.We speculate that energetic high-mode internal tides in the Preparis Channel contribute to elevated turbulent mixing. In addition,a local“hotspot”of turbidity is identified at the deep mooring site,at depth of about 100 m,which corresponds to the location of elevated turbulent mixing in the Preparis Channel. | Ruijie Ye Feng Zhou Xiao Ma Dingyong Zeng Feilong Lin Hongliang Li Chenggang Liu Soe Moe Lwin Hlaing Swe Win Soe Pyae Aung | 2023 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2023,42,2: | 0
Effect of organic mineral supplementation in reducing oxidative stress in Holstein calves during short‑term heat stress and recovery conditions显示文摘Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on physiological responses, oxidative stress reduction, and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery periods.Eight Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment groups:no mineral supplementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four periods of 35 d.Calves were maintained in a temperature-controlled barn. The experimental period consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon, and a 7-d washing period. Results Body temperature and respiration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(P<0.05).Selenium concentration in serum was high in the HOM-supplemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dL)and recovery periods(102.00μg/dL)(P<0.05).During the HS period, the serum cortisol was 20.26 ng/mL in the HOM group, which was 5.60 ng/mL lower than in the control group(P<0.05).The total antioxidant status was the highest in the OM group(2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/L),followed by the HOM group during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group(2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/L)during the recovery period(P<0.05).Plasma malondialdehyde and HSP70 levels were decreased by HOM supplementation during the HS and recovery periods, whereas SOD and GPX levels were not significantly affected(P>0.05).The principal coordinate analysis represented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral supplementation;however,temperature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(PERMANOVA:P<0.05).At the phylum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased, whereas Fibrobacteres,Spirochaetes, and Tenericutes increased(P<0.05),under HS conditions. The genus Treponema increased under HS conditions, while Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(P<0.05).Conclusion HOM supplementation during HS reduced cortisol concentrations and increased total antioxidant status in Holstein bull calves, suggesting that high organic mineral supplementation may alleviate the adverse effects of HS. | A-Rang Son Seon-Ho Kim Mahfuzul Islam Michelle Miguel Ye Pyae Naing Sang-Suk Lee | 2024 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2024,15,2: | 0
Chemical Constituents from the Whole Plant of Cuscuta reflexa显示文摘Two new 2H-pyran-2-one glucosides, cuscutarosides A(1)and B(2),and one new steroidal glucoside,7β-methoxy-β-sitosterol 3-O-β-glucopyranoside(3),together with 12 known compounds(4-15)were isolated from the whole plant of Cuscuta reflexa(Convolvulaceae)collected from Myanmar. The chemical structures of these new compounds were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis. The antiobesity activity of these isolates was evaluated using porcine pancreatic lipase(PPL),and the antiplatelet aggregation activity was screened using rabbit platelets induced by thrombin,platelet-activating factor(PAF),arachidonate(AA),or collagen.7β-Methoxy-β-sitosterol 3-O-β-glucopyranoside(3)showed weak PPL inhibitory activity.Cuscutaroside A(1),its acetylated derivative(1a),and scrophenoside B(8)showed weak inhibitory activity against rabbit platelet aggregation induced by collagen.Compound 1a also showed inhibitory activity against rabbit platelet aggregation induced by AA. | Tin Thu Thu Aung Meng-Yuan Xia Pyae Phyo Hein Rong Tang Dong-Dong Zhang Jun Yang Xue-Fei Yang Dong-Bao Hu Yue-Hu Wang | 2020 | Natural Products and Bioprospecting2020,10,5: | 0
