1Long-term bone and lung consequences associated with hospital-acquired severe acute respiratory syndrome:a 15-year follow-up from a prospective cohort study显示文摘The most severe sequelae after rehabilitation from SARS are femoral head necrosis and pulmonary fibrosis. We performed a 15-year follow-up on the lung and bone conditions of SARS patients. We evaluated the recovery from lung damage and femoral head necrosis in an observational cohort study of SARS patients using pulmonary CT scans, hip joint MRI examinations, pulmonary function tests and hip joint function questionnaires. Eighty medical staff contracted SARS in 2003. Two patients died of SARS, and78 were enrolled in this study from August 2003 to March 2018. Seventy-one patients completed the 15-year follow-up. The percentage of pulmonary lesions on CT scans diminished from 2003(9.40 ± 7.83)% to 2004(3.20 ± 4.78)%(P < 0.001) and remained stable thereafter until 2018(4.60 ± 6.37)%. Between 2006 and 2018, the proportion of patients with interstitial changes who had improved pulmonary function was lower than that of patients without lesions, as demonstrated by the one-second ratio(FEV1/FVC%, t = 2.21, P = 0.04) and mid-flow of maximum expiration(FEF25%–75%, t = 2.76, P = 0.01). The volume of femoral head necrosis decreased significantly from 2003(38.83 ± 21.01)% to 2005(30.38 ± 20.23)%(P = 0.000 2), then declined slowly from 2005 to 2013(28.99 ± 20.59)% and plateaued until 2018(25.52 ± 15.51)%. Pulmonary interstitial damage and functional decline caused by SARS mostly recovered, with a greater extent of recovery within 2 years after rehabilitation. 2Femtosecond-laser sharp shaping of millimeter-scale geometries with vertical sidewalls显示文摘As femtosecond(fs)laser machining advances from micro/nanoscale to macroscale,approaches capable of machining macroscale geometries that sustain micro/nanoscale precisions are in great demand.In this research,an fs laser sharp shaping approach was developed to address two key challenges in macroscale machining(i.e.defects on edges and tapered sidewalls).The evolution of edge sharpness(edge transition width)and sidewall tapers were systematically investigated through which the dilemma of simultaneously achieving sharp edges and vertical sidewalls were addressed.Through decreasing the angle of incidence(AOI)from 0◦to−5◦,the edge transition width could be reduced to below 10µm but at the cost of increased sidewall tapers.Furthermore,by analyzing lateral and vertical ablation behaviors,a parameter-compensation strategy was developed by gradually decreasing the scanning diameters along depth and using optimal laser powers to produce non-tapered sidewalls.The fs laser ablation behaviors were precisely controlled and coordinated to optimize the parameter compensations in general manufacturing applications.The AOI control together with the parameter compensation provides a versatile solution to simultaneously achieve vertical sidewalls as well as sharp edges of entrances and exits for geometries of different shapes and dimensions.Both mm-scale diameters and depths were realized with dimensional precisions below 10µm and surface roughness below 1µm.This research establishes a novel strategy to finely control the fs laser machining process,enabling the fs laser applications in macroscale machining with micro/nanoscale precisions.Qiuchi Zhu Peixun Fan Nan Li Timothy Carlson Bai Cui Jean-François Silvain Jerry L Hudgins Yong Feng Lu 2021International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing2021,3,4:6
3Bridging peripheral nerves using a deacetyl chitin conduit combined with short-term electrical stimulation显示文摘Previous studies have demonstrated that deacetyl chitin conduit nerve bridging or electrical stimulation can effectively promote the regeneration of the injured peripheral nerve.We hypothesized that the combination of these two approaches could result in enhanced regeneration.Rats with right sciatic nerve injury were subjected to deacetyl chitin conduit bridging combined with electrical stimulation(0.1 ms,3 V,20 Hz,for 1 hour).At 6 and 12 weeks after treatment,nerve conduction velocity,myelinated axon number,fiber diameter,axon diameter and the thickness of the myelin sheath in the stimulation group were better than in the non-stimulation group.The results indicate that deacetyl chitin conduit bridging combined with temporary electrical stimulation can promote peripheral nerve repair.Zhongli Zhang Xin Li Songjie Zuo Jie Xin Peixun Zhang 2014Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,10:5
4Electronically coupled layered double hydroxide/MXene quantum dot metallic hybrids for high-performance flexible zinc–air batteries显示文摘Precise control of the local electronic structure and properties of electrocatalysts is important for enhancing the multifunctionality and durability of electrocatalysts and for correlating the structure/chemistry with the catalytic properties.Herein,we report electronically coupled metallic hybrids of NiFe layered double hydroxide nanosheet/Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots deposited on a nitrogen-doped graphene surface(LDH/MQD/NG)for high-performance flexible Zn-air batteries(ZABs).As verified from the Mott-Schottky and Nyquist plots,as well as spectroscopic,electrochemical,and computational analyses,the electronic and chemical coupling of LDH/MQD/NG modulates the local electronic and surface structure of the active LDH to provide metallic conductivity and abundant active sites,leading to significantly improved bifunctional activity and electrocatalytic kinetics.The rechargeable ZABs with LDH/MQD/NG hybrids are superior to the previous LDH-based ZABs,demonstrating a high power density(113.8 mW cm^(-2))and excellent cycle stability(150 h at 5 mA cm^(-2)).Moreover,the corresponding quasi solid-state ZABs are completely flexible and practical,affording a high power density of 57.6 mW cm^(-2)even in the bent state,and in real-life operation of tandem cells for powering various electronic devices.Xiaotong Han Nannan Li Peixun Xiong Min Gyu Jung Yingbo Kang Qingyun Dou Qing Liu Jin Yong Lee Ho Seok Park 2021InfoMat2021,3,10:4
5Color image detail enhancement based on quaternion guided filter显示文摘Color image enhancement is an active research field in image processing. Currently, many image enhancement methods are capable of enhancing the details of the color image. However, these methods only process the red, green and blue(RGB) color channels separately, which leads to color distortion easily. In order to overcome this problem, the paper presents an approach to integrate the quaternion theory into the traditional guided filter to obtain a quaternion guided filter(QGF). This method makes full use of the color information of an image to realize the holistic processing of RGB color channels. So as to preserve color information while enhancing details, this paper proposes a color image detail enhancement algorithm based on the QGF. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in the applications of the color image detail enhancement, and enables image's edges to be more prominent and texture clearer while avoiding color distortion. 14Single-Phase Ternary Compounds with a Disordered Lattice and Liquid Metal Phase for High-Performance Li-Ion Battery Anodes显示文摘Si is considered as the promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)owing to their high capacities of 4200 mAh g-1and natural abundancy.However,severe electrode pulverization and poor electronic and Li-ionic conductivities hinder their practical applications.To resolve the afore-mentioned problems,we first demonstrate a cation-mixed disordered lattice and unique Li storage mechanism of single-phase ternary GaSiP_(2)compound,where the liquid metallic Ga and highly reactive P are incorporated into Si through a ball milling method.As confirmed by experimental and theoretical analyses,the introduced Ga and P enables to achieve the stronger resistance against volume variation and metallic conductivity,respectively,while the cation-mixed lattice provides the faster Li-ionic diffusion capability than those of the parent GaP and Si phases.The resulting GaSiP_(2)electrodes delivered the high specific capacity of 1615 mAh g-1and high initial Coulombic efficiency of 91%,while the graphite-modified GaSiP_(2)(GaSiP_(2)@C)achieved 83%of capacity retention after 900 cycles and high-rate capacity of 800 at 10,000 mA g-1.Furthermore,the LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)//Ga SiP_(2)@C full cells achieved the high specific capacity of 1049 mAh g-1after 100 cycles,paving a way for the rational design of high-performance LIB anode materials.Yanhong Li Lei Zhang Hung-Yu Yen Yucun Zhou Gun Jang Songliu Yuan Jeng-Han Wang Peixun Xiong Meilin Liu Ho Seok Park Wenwu Li 2023Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,5:0
15Pearling and helical nanostructures of model protocell membranes显示文摘The diversity of protocell membrane structures is crucial for the regulation of cell activities and indispensable to the origin of life.Prior to the evolution of complex cellular machinery,spontaneous protocell membrane evolution results from the intrinsic physicochemical properties of simple molecules under specific environmental conditions.Here,we report the evolution of the morphology of cell-sized model protocell membranes from giant vesicles to pearling and helical nanostructures,resembling morphologies of eukaryocytes,nostoc,and spirilla.This evolution occurs in a single binary aqueous system composed of an achiral single-chain amphiphile and a biogenic polyamine(spermidine or spermine)upon evaporating water,feeding amphiphiles,or increasing pH in response to various primitive fluctuating conditions.In contrast,nonbiogenic polyamines(triamine,triethylenetetramine,and hexamethyltriethylenetetramine)with slight differences in the number of methylene groups or protonated amine groups do not induce such a kind of evolution.The evolution of the shape transformation strongly relies on the balance between electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding,attributed to the odd/even effect of polyamines in the assembly.Strikingly,both pearling and helical structures emerge from multilamellar vesicles undergoing different processes,where the helix shows stronger permeability and encapsulation capability due to its multicompartmentalized structure.Thus,subtle adjustment of weak intramolecular interactions not only yields significant changes in the morphological evolution of protocell membranes but also brings new insights into the natural inevitability of biogenic small molecules.Zhidi Chen Yaxun Fan Yao Chen Jeffrey Penfold Peixun Li Rongliang Wu Yilin Wang 2022Nano Research2022,15,1:0
16A class of Ga-Al-P-based compounds with disordered lattice as advanced anode materials for Li-ion batteries显示文摘Phosphides possess large reversible capacity, small voltage hysteresis, and high energy efficiency, thus promising to be new anode candidates to replace commercial graphite for Li-ion batteries(LIBs).Through a facile mechanochemistry method, we prepare a novel ternary phosphide of Ga0.5Al0.5P whose crystalline structure is determined to be a cation-disordered cubic zinc sulfide structure according to XRD refinement. As an anode for LIBs, the Ga0.5Al0.5P delivers a reversible capacity of 1,352 mA h g^(-1)at100 mA g^(-1)with an initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE) up to 90.0% based on a reversible Li-storage mechanism integrating intercalation and subsequent conversion processes as confirmed by various characterizations techniques including in-situ XRD, ex-situ Raman, and XPS and electrochemical characterizations.Graphite-modified Ga0.5Al0.5P exhibits a long-lasting cycling stability of retaining 1,182 mA h g^(-1)after300 cycles at 100 m A g^(-1), and 625 mA h g^(-1)after 800 cycles at 2,000 mA g^(-1), and a high-rate performance of remaining 342 m A h g^(-1)at 20,000 mA g^(-1). The outstanding electrochemical performances can be attributed to enhanced reaction kinetics enabled by the capacitive behaviors and the faster Liion diffusion enabled by the cation-mixing. Importantly, by tuning the cationic ratio, we develop a novel series of cation-mixed compounds of Ga_(1/3)Al_(2/3)P, Ga_(1/4)Al_(3/4)P, Ga_(1/5)Al_(4/5)P, Ga_(2/3)Al_(1/3)P, Ga_(3/4)Al_(1/4)P, and Ga_(4/5)Al_(1/5)P, which demonstrate large capacity, high ICE, and suitable anode potentials. 17Yield Characteristics of a New High-quality Disease-resistant Wheat Variety Chuanmai 618显示文摘[Objectives]The paper was to analyze the yield characteristics of a new high-quality disease-resistant wheat variety Chuanmai 618.[Methods]The yield characteristics of Chuanmai 618 were analyzed using the AMMI model and GGE biplot based on data from a 2-year regional test and a 1-year production test.[Results]The analysis of the AMMI model for the 2-year regional test indicated that Chuanmai 618 had a moderate yield and good stability.During the production test,Chuanmai 618 had an average yield of 450.52 kg/666.7 m 2,an effective spike of 235700 spike/666.7 m 2,a 1000-seed weight of 47.93 g,and a kernel number per spike of 47.28.The AMMI analysis sequencing graph showed that the varieties were ranked in the following order:Zhongkemai 1816>Chuanmai 618>Shumai 1958>Chuanyu 42>Mianmai 367>Xikemai 5518.According to the GE analysis,Chuanmai 618 had comparative advantages.[Conclusions]The new wheat variety Chuanmai 618 is a high-quality disease-resistant variety with good yield and stability.Jianmin ZHENG Zongjun PU Jijuan LU Jiangtao LUO Qingyan DENG Peixun LIU Shizhao LI 2024Plant Diseases and Pests2024,15,2:0
