| 1 | Puerarin protects brain tissue against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by inhibiting the inflammatory response显示文摘Puerarin, a traditional Chinese medicine, exerts a powerful neuroprotective effect in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, but its mechanism is unknown. Here, we established rat models of middle cerebral artery ischemia/reperfusion injury using the suture method. Puerarin(100 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes before middle cerebral artery occlusion and 8 hours after reperfusion. Twenty-four hours after reperfusion, we found that puerarin significantly improved neurological deficit, reduced infarct size and brain water content, and notably diminished the expression of Toll-like receptor-4, myeloid differentiation factor 88, nuclear factor kappa B and tumor necrosis factor-α in the ischemic region. | 2 | Purification and Characterization of a New Thermostable κ-CarrageenasefromtheMarineBacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. QY203显示文摘A new extracellular κ-carrageenase, namely CgkP, 34.0 kDa in molecular weight, was purified from Pseudoalteromonas sp. QY203. CgkP showed relatively high activity at acidities ranging from pH6.0 to pH9.0 and temperatures ranging from 30℃ to 50℃ with the highest activity at 45℃ and pH7.2. Sodium chloride increased its activity markedly, and KCl increased its activity slightly. The divalent and trivalent metal ions including Cu2+ , Ni2+ , Zn2+ , Mn2+ , Al3+ and Fe3+ significantly inhibited its activity, while Mg2+ did not. CgkP remained 70% of original activity after being incubated at 40℃ for 48 h, and remained 80% of the activity after being incubated at 45℃ for 1 h. It exhibited endo-κ-carrageenase activity, mainly depolymerizing the κ-carrageenan into disaccharide and tetrasaccharide. | 7 | Inhibitor of DNA binding 2 accelerates nerve regeneration after sciatic nerve injury in mice显示文摘Inhibitor of DNA binding 2(Id2)can promote axonal regeneration after injury of the central nervous system.However,whether Id2 can promote axonal regeneration and functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury is currently unknown.In this study,we established a mouse model of bilateral sciatic nerve crush injury.Two weeks before injury,AAV9-Id2-3×Flag-GFP was injected stereotaxically into the bilateral ventral horn of lumbar spinal cord.Our results showed that Id2 was successfully delivered into spinal cord motor neurons projecting to the sciatic nerve,and the number of regenerated motor axons in the sciatic nerve distal to the crush site was increased at 2 weeks after injury,arriving at the tibial nerve and reinnervating a few endplates in the gastrocnemius muscle.By 1 month after injury,extensive neuromuscular reinnervation occurred.In addition,the amplitude of compound muscle action potentials of the gastrocnemius muscle was markedly recovered,and their latency was shortened.These findings suggest that Id2 can accelerate axonal regeneration,promote neuromuscular reinnervation,and enhance functional improvement following sciatic nerve injury.Therefore,elevating the level of Id2 in adult neurons may present a promising strategy for peripheral nerve repair following injury.The study was approved by the Experimental Animal Ethics Committee of Jinan University(approval No.20160302003)on March 2,2016. | Zhong-Hai Huang Ai-Ying Feng Jing Liu Libing Zhou Bing Zhou Panpan Yu | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,12: | 2 |

| 12 | A meta-analysis of the effects of statins on serum C-reactive protein in Chinese population with coronary heart disease or hyperlipidemia显示文摘There is little doubt that statins reduce cardiovascular events more than what the lipid lowering effect can account for. Additional mechanisms have been postulated including the anti-inflammatory effects manifested by reduced C-reactive protein (CRP). It is not known, however, whether statins can decrease CRP in Chinese population. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of statins on serum CRP in Chinese patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) or hyperlipidemia. Trials were retrieved through Medline (1980 to May, 2009), bibliographies, and the author’s reference files limited to English-language articles. Data were extracted and meta-analysis was performed. Analysis showed statistically significant reduction in CRP after statin treatment (weighted mean difference [WMD] = -0.73, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [-0.80, -0.66], P < 0.00001) and lower CRP after statin treatment than non-statin routine treatment ([WMD] = -0.52, 95% CI [-0.86, -0.18], P = 0.002). | 13 | A computational model of topological and geometric recovery for visual curve completion显示文摘Visual curve completion is a fundamental problem in understanding the principles of the human visual system. This problem is usually divided into two problems: a grouping problem and a shape problem.On one hand, though perception of the visually completed curve is clearly a global task(for example,a human perceives the Kanizsa triangle only when seeing all three black objects), conventional methods for solving the grouping problem are generally based on local Gestalt laws. On the other hand, the shape of the visually completed curve is usually recovered by minimizing shape energy in existing methods.However, not only do these methods lack mechanisms to adjust the shape of the recovered visual curve using perceptual, psychophysical, and neurophysiological knowledge, but it is also difficult to calculate an explicit representation of the visually completed curve. In this paper, we present a systematic computational model for generating a visually completed curve. Firstly, based on recent studies of perception, psychophysics, and neurophysiology, we formulate a grouping procedure based on the human visual system by seeking a minimum Hamiltonian cycle in a graph, solving the grouping problem in a global manner. Secondly, we employ a B′ezier curve-based model to represent the visually completed curve. Not only is an explicit representation deduced, but we also present a means to integrate knowledge from related areas, such as perception, psychophysics, and neurophysiology, and so on. | 20 | Fabrication of ZnO with tunable morphology through a facile treatment of Zn-based coordination polymers显示文摘The morphology and structure of zinc oxide(ZnO), one of the important semiconductors, are relevant to its properties and applications. The preparation of ZnO with tunable morphology and desired structure is an attractive topic in the field of material synthesis. This work reports a facile method for the synthesis of Zn O with controllable morphology and crystal orientation using Zn-based coordination polymer particles(Zn-CPP) as precursors. Using hydrothermal method, Zn-CPP with morphologies of microrod, nanoplate, flower-like, arrow-tipped microsheet, and square cylinder were successfully synthesized via the coordination between metal ions Zn2+ and organic ligand 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride in aqueous solution. Subsequent thermal treatment of the Zn-CPP successfully resulted in the formation of porous Zn O with similar morphology to Zn-CPP. It is also found that the Zn O with enhanced(002) orientation could be obtained from Zn-CPP with preferred(002) orientation.
