| 1 | Diagnostic value of glypican-3 in serum and liver for primary hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the diagnostic value of glypican-3(GPC3) in serum and liver for primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:Serum levels of GPC3 and α-fetoprotein(AFP) were measured in 75 patients with primary HCC and 32 patients with liver cirrhosis.Expression of GPC3 and AFP in 58 HCC and 12 cirrhotic specimens was detected with immunohistochemical staining.RESULTS:When the cut-off value of serum GPC3 was set at 300 ng/L,its sensitivity and specificity for HCC were 47.0% and 93.5%,respectively.Among the 14 patients with HCC at stage according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system,the serum GPC3 level was higher than 300 ng/L in 50%(7/14) patients,the serum AFP level was not ≥ 400 μg/L in any patient.Combined serum AFP and GPC3 significantly increased the sensitivity to the diagnosis of HCC.The GPC3 expression was detected in cytoplasm of HCC cells but not in hepatocytes and bile ducts of benign tumors.Among the 58 HCC patients,the GPC3 was expressed in 100%(28/28) patients with their serum AFP level ≥ 400 μg/L,and in 90%(27/30) patients with their AFP level < 400 μg/L,respectively.The GPC3 was weakly or negatively expressed in all paracarcinomatous and cirrhotic tissue samples.AFP positive HCC cells were only found in 1 out of the 58 HCC patients.CONCLUSION:GPC3 protein is a sensitive and specific serum marker for diagnosis of early HCC.Its expression in liver tissues can be used to discriminate tumor cells from benign hepatic cells. | Hui Liu Li-Jie Zhang Peng Li Yun Zhai Yu-Fen Tan Ning Li Hui-Guo Ding Chun-Feng Qu | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,35: | 57 |
| 2 | Shake table tests of suspended ceilings to simulate the observed damage in the M_s 7.0 Lushan earthquake, China显示文摘Severe damage to suspended ceilings of metal grids and lay-in panels was observed in public buildings during the 2013 Ms7.0 Lushan earthquake in China. Over the past several years, suspended ceilings have been widely used practice in public buildings throughout China, including government offices, schools and hospitals. To investigate the damage mechanism of suspended ceilings, a series of three-dimensional shake table tests was conducted to reproduce the observed damage. A full-scale reinforced concrete frame was constructed as the testing frame for the ceiling, which was single-story and infilled with brick masonry walls to represent the local construction of low-rise buildings. In general, the ceiling in the tests exhibited similar damage phenomena as the field observations, such as higher vulnerability of perimeter elements and extensive damage to the cross runners. However, it exhibited lower fragility in terms of peak ground/roof accelerations at the initiation of damage. | 4 | Treatment of coking wastewater by a novel electric assisted micro-electrolysis filter显示文摘A newly designed electric assisted micro-electrolysis filter(E-ME) was developed to investigate its degradation efficiency for coking wastewater and correlated characteristics. The performance of the E-ME system was compared with separate electrolysis(SE) and micro-electrolysis(ME) systems. The results showed a prominent synergistic effect on COD removal in E-ME systems. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(GC–MS) analysis confirmed that the applied electric field enhanced the degradation of phenolic compounds.Meanwhile, more biodegradable oxygen-bearing compounds were detected. SEM images of granular activated carbon(GAC) showed that inactivation and blocking were inhibited during the E-ME process. The effects of applied voltage and initial p H in E-ME systems were also studied. The best voltage value was 1 V, but synergistic effects existed even with lower applied voltage. E-ME systems exhibited some p H buffering capacity and attained the best efficiency in neutral media, which means that there is no need to adjust p H prior to or during the treatment process. | 6 | Carbon sinks/sources in the Yellow and East China Seas Air-sea interface exchange, dissolution in seawater, and burial in sediments显示文摘The sinks/sources of carbon in the Yellow Sea(YS) and East China Sea(ECS), which are important continental shelf seas in China, could exert a great influence on coastal ecosystem dynamics and the regional climate change process. The CO_2 exchange process across the seawater-air interface, dissolved and particulate carbon in seawater, and carbon burial in sediments were studied to understand the sinks/sources of carbon in the continental shelf seas of China. The YS and the ECS generally have different patterns of seasonal air-sea CO_2 exchange. In the YS, regions west of 124°E can absorb CO_2 from the atmosphere during spring and winter, and release CO_2 to the atmosphere during summer and autumn. The entire YS is considered as a CO_2 source throughout the year with respect to the atmosphere, but there are still uncertainties regarding the exact air-sea CO_2 exchange flux. Surface temperature and phytoplankton production were the key controlling factors of the air-sea CO_2 exchange flux in the offshore region and nearshore region of the YS, respectively. The ECS can absorb CO_2 during spring, summer, and winter and release CO_2 to the atmosphere during autumn. The annual average exchange rate in the ECS was-4.2±3.2 mmol m^(-2) d^(-1) and it served as an obvious sink for atmospheric CO_2 with an air-sea exchange flux of 13.7×10~6 t. The controlling factors of the air-sea CO_2 exchange in the ECS varied significantly seasonally. Storage of dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC) and dissolved organic carbon(DOC) in the YS and the ECS were 425×10~6 t and 1364×10~6 t, and 28.2×10~6 t and 54.1×10~6 t,respectively. Long-term observation showed that the DOC content in the YS had a decreasing trend, indicating that the 'practical carbon sink' in the YS was decreasing. The total amount of particulate organic carbon(POC) stored in the YS and ECS was10.6×10~6 t, which was comparable to the air-sea CO_2 flux in these two continental shelf seas. The amounts of carbon sequestered by phytoplankton in the YS and the ECS were 60.42×10~6 t and 153.41×10~6 t, respectively. Artificial breeding of macroalgae could effectively enhance blue carbon sequestration, which could fix 0.36×10~6–0.45×10~6 t of carbon annually. Organic carbon(OC) buried in the sediments of the YS was estimated to be 4.75×10~6 t, and OC of marine origin was 3.03×10~6 t, accounting for5.0% of the TOC fixed by phytoplankton primary production. In the ECS, the corresponding depositional flux of OC in the sediment was estimated to be 7.4×10~6 t yr^(-1), and the marine-origin OC was 5.5×10~6 t, accounting for 5.4% of the phytoplankton primary production. | 8 | Internet of Things to network smart devices for ecosystem monitoring显示文摘Smart, real-time, low-cost, and distributed ecosystem monitoring is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. However, new techniques in the big data era have rarely been introduced into operational ecosystem monitoring, particularly for fragile ecosystems in remote areas.We introduce the Internet of Things(IoT) techniques to establish a prototype ecosystem monitoring system by developing innovative smart devices and using IoT technologies for ecosystem monitoring in isolated environments. The developed smart devices include four categories: large-scale and nonintrusive instruments to measure evapotranspiration and soil moisture, in situ observing systems for CO2 and d13 C associated with soil respiration, portable and distributed devices for monitoring vegetation variables, and Bi-CMOS cameras and pressure trigger sensors for terrestrial vertebrate monitoring. These new devices outperform conventional devices and are connected to each other via wireless communication networks. The breakthroughs in the ecosystem monitoring IoT include new data loggers and longdistance wireless sensor network technology that supports the rapid transmission of data from devices to wireless networks. The applicability of this ecosystem monitoring IoT is verified in three fragile ecosystems, including a karst rocky desertification area, the National Park for Amur Tigers, and the oasis-desert ecotone in China. By integrating these devices and technologies with an ecosystem monitoring information system, a seamless data acquisition, transmission, processing, and application IoT is created. | 12 | Work-family conflict and job burn-out among Chinese doctors:the mediating role of coping styles显示文摘Background Burn-out among doctors threatens their own health, and that of their patients. To identify risk factors of the doctor burn-out is vital to improving their health and increasing the quality of healthcare services.This study aims to explore the relationship between workfamily conflict(WFC) and burn-out among Chinese doctors and the mediating role of coping styles in this relationship.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted in China, with a questionnaire packet which consisted of the Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory(CMBI), WFC Scale and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ). A total of 2530 doctors participated in the survey. Correlation analysis was performed to explore the relationship between CMBI, WFC and SCSQ scores. A linear regression model was set to determine the mediating role of coping styles on the relationship between WFC and burn-out.Results Doctors who had higher scores on work interfering with family conflict, reported more emotional exhaustion(r=0.514, P<0.001) and had a sense of accomplishment(r=-0.149, P<0.001). Simultaneously,family interfering with work(FIW) was positively associated with all dimensions of burn-out(r=0.213,0.504,0.088,respectively, P<0.001). Coping styles had partial, complete and even mediating effects on the relationship between WFC and burn-out among Chinese doctors.Conclusions WFC was correlated with burn-out, and coping style was a mediator in this relationship among Chinese doctors. | 17 | Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. | 18 | Synthesis and Characterization of Fluorinated Polyurethane Containing Carborane in the Main Chain: Thermal, Mechanical and Chemical Resistance Properties显示文摘In this study, two fluorinated polyurethanes(FPU) containing carborane groups in the main chains were firstly designed and synthesized via the reaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer(HDI trimer) with fluorinated polyesters(CFPETs) having hydroxyl-terminated carborane groups at room temperature. The structures of carborane fluorinated polyesters(CFPETs) and polyurethanes(CFPUs) were characterized by gel permeation chromatography(GPC), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) measurements. The thermal stability, mechanical properties, Shore A hardness, solvent resistance and acid-alkali resistance of the carborane fluorinated polyurethane films were also studied. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) tests manifested that the introduction of carborane groups into the main chain of fluorinated polyurethane endowed the obtained fluorinated polyurethane with excellent thermal stability. The thermal decomposition temperature of carborane fluorinated polyurethane(CFPU) increased by 190 °C compared with that of the carborane-free fluorinated polyurethane(FPU). Even at 800 °C, CFPU showed the char yield of 66.5%, which was higher than that of FPU(34.3%). The carborane-containing fluorinated polyurethanes also showed excellent chemical resistance and prominent mechanical property even after the cured films being immersed into Jet aircraft oil or 37% HCl for 168 h or at high temperature(700 °C). It is found that the structural characteristics of carborane group and the compacted structure of CFPU effectively improve the thermal stability, mechanical property, solvent resistance and acid-alkali resistance of the carborane-free fluorinated polyurethane. | 19 | Influences of different time intervals between loop electrosurgical excision and abdominal hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy on postoperative complications: a retrospective analysis显示文摘Objective:To study the influences of different time intervals between loop electrosurgical excision (LEEP) and abdominal hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy on postoperative complications. Methods:Sixty-eight patients, who received subsequent abdominal hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy after LEEP due to CIN Ⅲ and cervical cancer (IA1, IA2 and IB1), were included in the present study. The hospital and clinic records of these patients were reviewed. The patients were divided into three groups according to the time intervals between LEEP and hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy: group 1(within 48 h), group 2 (between 48 h to 6 weeks), and group 3(> 6 weeks ).Results: General characteristics of patients, including the mean age, delivery history, BMI, menopausal status, clinical stage and HPV infection, were comparable between patients of different groups. There were no significant differences in the mean transfusion amount, posthysterectomy hospital stay or operation time between different groups. The frequencies and spectrum of complications were not significantly affected by the time interval between LEEP and hysterectomy or radical hysterectomy.
