TGF-β/BMP signaling and other molecular events: regulation of osteoblastogenesis and bone formation显示文摘Transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-β)/bone morphogenetic protein(BMP) plays a fundamental role in the regulation of bone organogenesis through the activation of receptor serine/threonine kinases. Perturbations of TGF-β/BMP activity are almost invariably linked to a wide variety of clinical outcomes, i.e., skeletal, extra skeletal anomalies, autoimmune, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Phosphorylation of TGF-β(I/II) or BMP receptors activates intracellular downstream Smads, the transducer of TGF-β/BMP signals. This signaling is modulated by various factors and pathways, including transcription factor Runx2. The signaling network in skeletal development and bone formation is overwhelmingly complex and highly time and space specific.Additive, positive, negative, or synergistic effects are observed when TGF-β/BMP interacts with the pathways of MAPK, Wnt, Hedgehog(Hh), Notch, Akt/m TOR, and mi RNA to regulate the effects of BMP-induced signaling in bone dynamics. Accumulating evidence indicates that Runx2 is the key integrator, whereas Hh is a possible modulator, mi RNAs are regulators, and b-catenin is a mediator/regulator within the extensive intracellular network. This review focuses on the activation of BMP signaling and interaction with other regulatory components and pathways highlighting the molecular mechanisms regarding TGF-β/BMP function and regulation that could allow understanding the complexity of bone tissue dynamics. | Md Shaifur Rahman Naznin Akhtar Hossen Mohammad Jamil Rajat Suvra Banik Sikder M Asaduzzaman | 2015 | Bone Research2015,3,1: | 53

Insight into 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced modulation of cellular antioxidant metabolism to confer salinity and drought tolerance in maize显示文摘The current study investigated the comparative oxidative damage in twomaize seedlings induced by saline, drought, and combined stress and the ameliorative role of two different doses(20 and 80μM)of 5-aminolevulinic acid(ALA)against the above-mentioned stresses.Hydroponically grown 10-day-old maize(Zea mays, var.BARI Hybrid Maize-7(BHM-7)and BARI Hybrid Maize-9(BHM-9))seedlings were exposed to 12 dS/m of saline solution,200 mM mannitol-induced drought stress alone and their combined stress for 7 days.Result revealed that individual stresses retard the plant growth to some degrees, however, their combined stress has more detrimental effects, which might be correlated with lipid peroxidation(MDA)-induced oxidative stress in seedlings, enhanced Na+/K+ratio,and augmented generation of superoxide(O_(2)•^(−))and hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)).In contrast, exogenous ALA supplementation at 20μM concentration markedly recovered from chlorosis and growth inhibition, substantially scavenged reactive oxygen species(ROS)and MDA by preserving ionhomeostasis and relaxing oxidative stress, also,by boosting catalase(CAT)and glutathione S-transferase(GST),and exclusively via depressing the activity of lipoxygenase(LOX)antioxidant enzyme. On the contrary,80μM ALA made things worse, nevertheless, higher activities shown by other antioxidant enzymes, like, superoxide dismutase(SOD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),peroxidase(POD),and glutathione peroxidase(GPX),which were related to lessen the oxidative damage by highly produced O_(2)•^(−)and H_(2)O_(2) under combined stress.Non-denaturing gel electrophoresis was done for further confirmation. However,ALA importantly increased the photosynthetic pigment contents in both genotypes irrespective of doses.Nevertheless,GST might have assisted the plants to escape from the herbicidal effect by detoxification. However,in the combined stress condition, high ALA concentration may have some positive role to play. Our findings also showed that BHM-9 performed better than BHM-7.Therefore,ALA at lower concentration was effective for single stress of saline and drought, while higher concentration can improve plant survival under combined stress. | MD.ROBYUL ISLAM TAHIA NAZNIN DIPALI RANI GUPTA MD.ASHRAFUL HAQUE MIRZA HASANUZZAMAN MD.MOTIAR ROHMAN | 2020 | BIOCELL2020,44,4: | 0
Advances in DNA methylation and its role in cytoplasmic male sterility in higher plants显示文摘The impact of epigenetic modifications like DNA methylation on plant phenotypes has expanded the possibilities for crop development.DNA methylation plays a part in the regulation of both the chromatin structure and gene expression, and the enzyme involved,DNA methyltransferase, executes the methylation process within the plant genome.By regulating crucial biological pathways, epigenetic changes actively contribute to the creation of the phenotype. Therefore, epigenome editing may assist in overcoming some of the drawbacks of genome editing, which can have minor off-target consequences and merely facilitate the loss of a gene’s function. These drawbacks include gene knockout, which can have such off-target effects. This review provides examples of several molecular characteristics of DNA methylation,as well as some plant physiological processes that are impacted by these epigenetic changes in the plants. We also discuss how DNA alterations might be used to improve crops and meet the demands of sustainable and environmentally-friendly farming. | Atiqur Rahman Hasan Sofiur Rahman Shakil Uddin Naima Sultana Shirin Akhter Ujjal Kumar Nath Shamsun Nahar Begum Mazadul Islam Afroz Naznin Nurul Amin Sharif Ahmed Akbar Hossain | 2024 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2024,23,1: | 0
Application of a distributed verification in Islamic microfinance institutions:a sustainable model显示文摘The literature gap in microfinance paradox of double bottom line(financial performance vs.outreach)has always been an interesting area of research. This paper proposes a theoretical model most suitable for Islamic Microfinance Institutions(MFIs)which enables Islamic MFIs’to operate together with the existing financial models compliant with Islamic Shariah Law.This model is based on a distributed verification/decision-making process that might be realized(but not necessary)through block-chain.Among the available distributed verification techniques, blockchain technology is an attractive emerging computing paradigm due to its decentralized, immutable, shared, and secure data structure characteristics. This model proposes three significant propositions.First, sharing information through blockchain will allow a transparent network in MFI operations, which will raise confidence for donors resulting in a causal effect of a relatively lower profit rate to be charged by the MFIs.Second, the consensus mechanism will enable risk-sharing,a character of Islamic finance;thus, the MFIs will operate without any collateral for low-risk firms.Third, the double bottom line of MFIs’long-lasting paradox would be solved. As for practical implication of this proposed model, the causal impact of lower cost investment by the lenders would increase social welfare because of no collateral and no initial wealth requirement. The proposed model proposes a credit rationing approach where profit can be negative. No collateral will be used when calculating the creditworthiness of a borrower. | Peter Wanke M.Kabir Hassan Md.Abul Kalam Azad Md.Azizur Rahman Naznin Akther | 2022 | Financial Innovation2022,8,1: | 0
Molecular identification of oomycete species affecting aquaculture in Bangladesh显示文摘Fish mycotic disease outbreaks occur due to infections with oomycete pathogens such as Saprolegnia spp.and Aphanomyces invadans, and cause large-scale fish production losses.Despite its negative impact on aquaculture, little is known about the diversity of oomycete pathogens. The aim of this study was to identify the diversity of pathogenic oomycetes causing infections in major aquaculture zones of Mymensingh and Jessore regions in Bangladesh.A total of 449 water and infected fish samples were collected from 28 fish farms in both regions of which 29 samples were able to grow out with mycelia on the Potato Dextrose Agar(PDA)/Glucose Peptone Yeast Agar(GPYA)plates.Sequence database searches using the rRNA Internal Transcribed Spacer(ITS)region revealed that 15 belonged to Pythium spp.,12 were Aphanomyces invadans and two corresponded to Saprolegnia parasitica.Five isolates of Pythium spp.were identified to the species level:one was closely related to Pythium catenulatum, four to Pythium rhizo-oryzae,rest were identified up to genus. The Pythium spp.were only isolated from water samples whereas A.invadans and S.parasitica were found in fish lesions.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that a single A.invadans clone exists in the sampled area. The results obtained confirm the existence of pathogenic oomycetes in Bangladesh fish farms and this will pave future research on diversity, prevention and control measures. | Mohammad Nasif Sarowar Md Jakir Hossain Tahmina Nasrin Tania Naznin Zakir Hossain Mohammad Matiur Rahman | 2019 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2019,4,3: | 0
