1Effect of infliximab on small bowel stenoses in patients with Crohn's disease显示文摘AIM: To assess prospectively small bowel stenoses in Crohn's disease (CD) patients treated with infliximab using Small Intestine Contrast Ultrasonography (SICUS). METHODS: Twenty patients (M 12, age, 42.7 ± 11.8 years), 15 of whom showed obstructive symptoms indicating the presence of small bowel stenosis, and 5 without stenosis, were treated with infliximab (5 mg/kg at wk 0, 2, 6 and 5 mg/kg every 8 wk thereafter) for steroid refractoriness, fistulizing disease, or to avoid high-risk surgery. SICUS was performed at the induction phase and at regular time intervals during the follow-up period of 34.7 ± 16.1 mo (range 7-58). Small bowel stenoses were detected by SICUS, endoscopy and MRI. RESULTS: In no case was progression of stenoses or the appearance of new ones seen. Of the 15 patients with stenosis, 5 stopped treatment after the induction phase (2 for no response, 3 for drug intolerance, one of whom showed complete regression of one stenosis). Among the remaining 10 patients, a complete regression of 8 stenoses (1 stenosis in 5 patients and 3 stenoses in one patient) was observed after 6-22 infliximab infusions. 2Metabolic alterations in cancer cells and therapeutic implications显示文摘Cancer metabolism has emerged as an important area of research in recent years.Elucidation of the metabolic differences between cancer and normal cells and the underlying mechanisms will not only advance our understanding of fundamental cancer cell biology but also provide an important basis for the development of new therapeutic strategies and novel compounds to selectively eliminate cancer cells by targeting their unique metabolism.This article reviews several important metabolic alterations in cancer cells,with an emphasis on increased aerobic glycolysis (the Warburg effect) and glutamine addiction,and discusses the mechanisms that may contribute to such metabolic changes.In addition,metabolic alterations in cancer stem cells,mitochondrial metabolism and its influence on drug sensitivity,and potential therapeutic strategies and agents that target cancer metabolism are also discussed.Naima Hammoudi Kausar Begam Riaz Ahmed1 Celia Garcia- Prieto Peng Huang 2011Chinese Journal of Cancer2011,30,8:6
3MicroRNAs as emerging biomarkers and therapeutic targets for pancreatic cancer显示文摘Despite tremendous efforts from scientists and clinicians worldwide, pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PDAC) remains a deadly disease due to the lack of early diagnostic tools and reliable therapeutic approaches. Consequently, a majority of patients(80%) display an advanced disease that results in a low resection rate leading to an overall median survival of less than 6 months. Accordingly, robust markers for the early diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer, or markers indicative of survival and/or metastatic disease are des-perately needed to help alleviate the dismal prognosis of this cancer. In addition, the discovery of new therapeutic targets is mandatory to design effective treatments. 4Soil characteristics and plant distribution in saline wetlands of Oued Righ, northeastern Algeria显示文摘Saline wetlands are rare ecosystems in Saharan areas,which are important for conservation of many endemic and rare plant species.In this study,we investigated five saline wetland sites of the Oued Righ region,located in the northeastern Algeria,to determine the environmental factors controlling the composition and distribution of plant communities.We established a total of 20 transects to measure the vegetation parameters(density and cover) and soil characteristics(electrical conductivity,moisture,pH,CaSO_4,CaCO_3,organic matter,Na^+,K^+,Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+),SO_4^(2–),Cl~–,NO_3~– and HCO_3~–).A total of 17 plant species belonging to seven families were identified.The natural vegetation was composed of halophytic and hydro-halophytic plant communities,presented specially by the species of Amaranthaceae family.Soils in the studied wetlands were moist,gypsiferous,alkaline,salty to very salty with dominance of chloride and calcium.Results of the Canonical Correspondence Analysis(CCA) showed that community structure and species distribution patterns of vegetation were mainly dependent on soil characteristics,mainly being soil salinity(CaSO_4,K^+,Ca^(2+) and Cl~–) and moisture.The distribution of plant species was found to follow a specific zonal pattern.Halocnemum strobilaceum was observed to grow in highly salt-affected soils,thus being the more salt-tolerant species.Phragmites communis plants were widely distributed in the study area with a high density at the edges of accumulated water body.Juncus maritimus,Tamarix gallica and Salicornia fructicosa grew in soils that are partially or completely flooded in winter.Suaeda fructicosa,Traganum nudatum,Arthrocnemum glaucum,Aeluropus littoralis,Cressa cretica and Cynodon dactylon were distributed in salty and moist soils away from the open water body.Plants of Zygophyllum album,Limonastrirum guyonianum,Cornulaca monacantha,Cistanche tinctoria,Mollugo nudicaulis and Sonchus maritimus were found in soils with less salty and moisture.They constituted the outermost belt of vegetation in the studied wetlands.This study will provide a reference on introducing the salt-tolerant plant species as a fodder resource in saline habitats and regenerating the degraded saline wetlands.Naima KOULL Abdelmadjid CHEHMA 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,6:4
5Depth factors for undrained bearing capacity of circular footing by numerical approach显示文摘The undrained vertical bearing capacity of embedded foundation has been extensively studied using analytical and numerical methods.Through comparing the results of a circular embedded foundation in the literature,a significant difference between the bearing capacity factors and depth factors is observed.Based on the previous research findings,numerical computations using FLAC code are carried out in this study to evaluate the undrained bearing capacity of circular foundations with embedment ratios up to five for different base and side foundation roughness conditions.Unlike the foundation base,the roughness of the foundation side has a significant effect on the bearing capacity.The comparison of the present results with numerical studies available in the literature shows that the discrepancy is related to the procedures used to simulate the foundation side interface conditions and to the estimation of the bearing capacity.Sadok Benmebarek Insaf Saifi Naima Benmebarek 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,4:2
6Bethe–Weizs?cker semiempirical mass formula coefficients 2019update based on AME2016显示文摘In the present work, the classical Bethe–Weizs?cker(BW) mass formula with five energy terms is revisited and updated. We use the least-squares adjustments on the binding energy of 2497 different nuclides from the last update of the atomic mass evaluation,AME2016 published in March 2017, to provide a new set of energy coefficients of the mass formula. The obtained set of formula coefficients allowed us to reproduce most of the experimental values of the binding energies for each nucleus with A ≥50. The comparison between the binding energies provided with updated mass formula and those of AME2016 on the one hand, and those of previous works,on the other hand, yields relative errors that oscillate between less than 0.05% and 1.5%.
