| 4 | Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Arbutus unedo aqueous extract显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of aqueous extract of Arbutus unedo(A. unedo) leaves.Methods: In this context, the in vitro antioxidant activity was demonstrated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl radical and H_2O_2 radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating, ferric reducing power, total antioxidant capacity and by the protection against peroxidation of b-carotene-linoleic acid in emulsion. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated first by studying the membrane of human red blood cells against different hypotonic concentrations of Na Cl and against heat, inhibiting the denaturation of albumin.Results: Total phenolic and flavonoid content were found respectively [(207.84 ± 15.03)mg gallic acid equivalent/g, and(13.070 ± 0.096) mg quercetin equivalent/g]. The extract displayed significant scavenging activity of some radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl [IC_(50)at(7.956 ± 0.278) mg/m L],OH [IC_(50)=(1 015.74 ± 46.35 mg/m L)], H_2O_2[IC_(50)=(114.77 ± 16.86) mg/m L] and showed a good antioxidant activity through ferrous ion chelating activity [IC_(50)=(1 014.30 ± 36.21) mg/m L], ferric reducing power [IC_(50)=(156.55 ± 17.40) mg/m L], total antioxidant capacity [IC_(50)=(461.67± 4.16) mg/m L] and b-carotene-linoleic acid protection against peroxidation [I% =(87.04 ± 1.21)% at 1 000 mg/m L].Conclusions: A. unedo showed in vitro anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the heat induced albumin denaturation and red blood cells membrane stabilization. Our results show that aqueous leaf extract of A. unedo has good antioxidant activity and interesting anti-inflammatory properties. | 5 | Pharmacological potential of Populus nigra extract as antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,cardiovascular and hepatoprotective agent显示文摘Objective:To evaluate antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,hepatoprotective and vasorelaxant activities of Pupulus nigra flower buds ethanolic extract.Methods:Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of the extract were assessed using respectively the ABTS test and the animal model of carrageenan-induced paw edema.Protection from hepatic toxicity caused by aluminum was examined by histopathologic analysis of liver sections.Vasorelaxant effect was estimated in endothelium-intact and-nibbed rings of porcine coronary arteries precontracted with high concentration of U466I9.Results:The results showed a moderate antioxidant activity(40%),but potent anti-inflammatory activity(49.9%)on carrageenan-induced mice paw edema,and also as revealed by histopathologic examination,complete protection against AlCl_3-induced hepatic toxicity.Relaxant effects of the same exlracl on vascular preparation from porcine aorta precontracted with high concentration of U466I9 were considerable at 10^(-1)g/L,and comparable(P>0.05)between endothelium-intact(67.74%,IC_(50)0.04 mg/ml.)and-rubbed(72.72%,IC_(50)=0.075 mg/ml,)aortic rings.Conclusions:The extract exerted significant anti-inflammatory,hepatoprotective and vasorelaxant activities,the latter being cndothelium-independent believed to be mediated mainly by the ability of components present in the extract to exert antioxidant properties,probably related to an inhibition of Ca^(2+)influx. | Nadjet Debbache-Benaida Dina Atmani-Kilani Valerie Barbara Schini-Keirth Nouredine Djebbli Djebbar Atmani | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,9: | 1 |

| 7 | Immunotoxic effects of an industrial waste incineration site on groundwater in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)显示文摘The discharge of organic waste from the petrochemical industry into the Mercier lagoons caused major groundwater contamination. The objective of this study was to determine the immunotoxic potential of three groundwater wells at increasing distance from the incinerator dumping site(1.17, 2.74 and 5.40 km). Rainbow Trout were exposed to increasing concentrations of water from three groundwater wells for 14 days. Immunocompetence was characterized by phagocytosis, mitogen-stimulated proliferation of lymphocytes, cell cycle analysis and apoptosis. A significant increase in innate(phagocytosis) and specific immune response(B lymphocyte proliferation) was observed in trout exposed to water collected from the well at 2.74 km. However, phagocytosis activity was suppressed in groups at 1.17 and 5.40 km. The proportion of lymphocytes in S phase was significantly increased in groups at 2.74 and 5.40 km, while lymphocytes in G0/G1 phase were decreased in all three exposure groups. Additionally, dexamethasone(DEX)-induced apoptosis of lymphocytes was significantly reduced in the group at 2.74 km, which suggests decreased lymphocyte turnover. Furthermore, the ratio of DEXinduced apoptosis/apoptosis was lower in the groups at 2.74 and 5.40 km. In summary, our experiments have shown that exposure to the mixture of organic compounds present in Mercier groundwater modulates phagocytosis and cell proliferation, disrupts the cell cycle and reduces the ratio of DEXinduced apoptosis/apoptosis. | 8 | Colloidal Behavior of Aqueous Montmorillonite Suspensions in the Presence of Non-ionic Polymer显示文摘In this paper, we characterized at first, the rheological behavior of the bentonite suspensions and the aqueous solutions of PEO (polyethylene oxide). Then we are going to investigate the influence of this polymer in a water-based drilling fluid model (6% of bentonite suspension). The objective is to exhibit how the non-ionic polymer with molecular weight 6×10^3 g/mol, of varying concentration mass (0.7%, 1%, 2% and 3%) significantly alter the rheological properties (yield stress, viscosity, loss and elastic modulus) of the bentonite suspensions. The rheological measurements made in simple shear and in dynamic on the mixture (water-bentonite-PEO), showed rheological properties of bentonite suspensions both in the presence and absence of non-ionic polymer. The PEO presents an affinity for the bentonite particles slowing down their kinetic aggregation. The analysis by XRD (X-rays diffraction) also allowed understanding the structure of this mixture.
