1Radiation-induced inflammation and autoimmune diseases显示文摘Currently,ionizing radiation(IR)plays a key role in the agricultural and medical industry,while accidental exposure resulting from leakage of radioactive sources or radiological terrorism is a serious concern.Exposure to IR has various detrimental effects on normal tissues.Although an increased risk of carcinogenesis is the best-known long-term consequence of IR,evidence has shown that other diseases,particularly diseases related to inflammation,are common disorders among irradiated people.Autoimmune disorders are among the various types of immune diseases that have been investigated among exposed people.Thyroid diseases and diabetes are two autoimmune diseases potentially induced by IR.However,the precise mechanisms of IR-induced thyroid diseases and diabetes remain to be elucidated,and several studies have shown that chronic increased levels of inflammatory cytokines after exposure play a pivotal role.Thus,cytokines,including interleukin-1(IL-1),tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α)and interferon gamma(IFN-α),play a key role in chronic oxidative damage following exposure to IR.Additionally,these cytokines change the secretion of insulin and thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH).It is likely that the management of inflammation and oxidative damage is one of the best strategies for the amelioration of these diseases after a radiological or nuclear disaster.In the present study,we reviewed the evidence of radiation-induced diabetes and thyroid diseases,as well as the potential roles of inflammatory responses.In addition,we proposed that the mitigation of inflammatory and oxidative damage markers after exposure to IR may reduce the incidence of these diseases among individuals exposed to radiation.Rasoul Yahyapour Peyman Amini Saeed Rezapour Mohsen Cheki Abolhasan Rezaeyan Bagher Farhood Dheyauldeen Shabeeb Ahmed Eleojo Musa Hengameh Fallah Masoud Najafi 2018Military Medical Research2018,5,1:7
2Petrogenesis and Tectonic Implications of Peralkaline A-Type Granites and Syenites from the Suizhou-Zaoyang Region,Central China显示文摘In this study, we present systematic petrological, geochemical, LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb ages and Nd isotopic data for the A-type granites and syenites from Suizhou-Zaoyang region. The results show that the peralkaline A-type granites and syenites were episodically emplaced in Suizhou-Zaoyang region between 450±3 and 441±7 Ma which corresponds to Late Ordovician and Early Silurian periods, respectively. Petrologically, the syenite-peralkaline granite association comprises of nepheline normative-syenite and alkaline granite in Guanzishan and quartz normative syenite and alkaline granite in Huangyangshan. The syenite-granite associations are ferroan to alkali in composition. They depict characteristics of typical OIB(oceanic island basalts) derived A-type granites in multi-elements primitive normalized diagram and Yb/Ta vs. Y/Nb as well as Ce/Nb vs. Y/Nb binary plots. Significant depletion in Ba, Sr, P, Ti and Eu indicates fractionation of feldspars, biotite, amphiboles and Ti-rich augite. The values of ?Nd(t) in Guanzishan nepheline syenite and alkaline granite are +1.81 and +2.26, respectively and the calculated two-stage model age for these rocks are 1 040 and 1 003 Ma, respectively. On the other hand, the Huangyangshan alkaline granite has ?Nd(t) values ranging from +2.61 to +3.46 and a relatively younger two-stage Nd model age values ranging from 906 to 975 Ma, respectively. Based on these data, we inferred that the Guanzishan nepheline syenites and granites were formed from fractional crystallization of OIB-like basic magmas derived from upwelling of metasomatized lithospheric mantle. The Huangyangshan quartz syenite and granite on the other hand, were formed from similar magmas through fractional crystallization with low input from the ancient crustal rocks. 4Leptin levels in women with unexplained infertility:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Unexplained infertility(UI)is usually used for any heterosexual couple who failed to have a successful clinical pregnancy without identifying clear causes after they undergo all standard fertility tests.Evidence shows that leptin is one of the most accurate biomarkers for UI.Nevertheless,conflicting results regarding leptin levels in women with UI have been reported.AIM To find the serum leptin levels in women with UI.METHODS All studies written in English and conducted before April 30,2021 from PubMed/MEDLINE,Embase,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,ClinicalTrials.gov,Google Scholar,OpenGrey,OATD,and the infertility conference abstract were included.Studies were found eligible if they provided the mean and standard deviation of leptin for the case group and control group.The quality assessment of individual studies was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute Quality Assessment Tool.Data synthesis and statistical analysis were done using STATA software version 16.RESULTS A total of 378 studies were reviewed,and just six studies that fulfilled the eligibility criteria were included in this meta-analysis.The pooled result showed that leptin levels were significantly higher in women with UI compared to fertile women,with a standardized mean difference of 0.97(95%confidence interval:-0.49-2.43).However,heterogeneity across studies was highly significant(P<0.00001;I2=98.8%).CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that leptin levels are elevated in women with UI compared with fertile women;hence,leptin could be a potential biomarker for UI in women,and it may be useful for identifying women with a high risk of infertility.Abdullah Abdulslam Abdullah Musa Ahmed Adesina Oladokun 2022World Journal of Meta-Analysis2022,10,1:2

14Integration of Fog Computing for Health Record Management Using Blockchain Technology显示文摘Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a breakthrough technologyin the transfer of medical data via a communication system. Wearable sensordevices collect patient data and transfer them through mobile internet, thatis, the IoMT. Recently, the shift in paradigm from manual data storage toelectronic health recording on fog, edge, and cloud computing has been noted.These advanced computing technologies have facilitated medical services withminimum cost and available conditions. However, the IoMT raises a highconcern on network security and patient data privacy in the health caresystem. The main issue is the transmission of health data with high security inthe fog computing model. In today’s market, the best solution is blockchaintechnology. This technology provides high-end security and authenticationin storing and transferring data. In this research, a blockchain-based fogcomputing model is proposed for the IoMT. The proposed technique embedsa block chain with the yet another consensus (YAC) protocol building securityinfrastructure into fog computing for storing and transferring IoMT data inthe network. YAC is a consensus protocol that authenticates the input datain the block chain. In this scenario, the patients and their family membersare allowed to access the data. The empirical outcome of the proposedtechnique indicates high reliability and security against dangerous threats.The major advantages of using the blockchain model are high transparency,good traceability, and high processing speed. The technique also exhibitshigh reliability and efficiency in accessing data with secure transmission. 15Five-year retrospective hospital-based study on epidemiological data regarding human leishmaniasis in West Kordofan state,Sudan显示文摘BACKGROUND Leishmaniasis is a neglected zoonotic disease,endemic in Sudan.Estimating this disease is very important to inform the health care policymakers and the governments to apply proper health and economic policies.AIM To find out the frequency and distribution of human leishmaniasis based on sex and age for 5 years in the West Kordofan state,Sudan.METHODS A 5-year retrospective study from 2016 through 2020 was carried out using local hospital records of leishmaniasis patients.The positive results were recorded after performing at least one of the following leishmaniasis standard tests:direct agglutination test,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and leishmania skin test.The sex and age of each patient were recorded.The collected data were analyzed using STATA package version 16.RESULTS A total of 162443 patient records from 2016 to 2020 were retrieved.Of these,4.39%were found to be positive for leishmaniasis.The disease has been more common in males(65.3%)than in females(34.7%).The highest reported prevalence(6.58%)was in patients 15-44 years,and the lowest prevalence(1.95%)was among patients≥65 years.CONCLUSION The results of the current study indicate that leishmaniasis is endemic in the study area even though the numbers of patients in the 5 consecutive years were varying.In addition,the disease was common in males and adults.The interpretation of these findings should take into consideration the absence of information about some important confounding factors.Abdullah Abdulslam Abdullah Musa Ahmed Ahmed Gadeed Adam Eltayeb Safa Ahmed Suad Hamad Mohammed Hussein 2022World Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases2022,12,2:0
16Characterization and Functionalisation of Activated Carbon for the Enhancement of Enzyme Catalyst Activity显示文摘Background and objective:Activated carbon is commonly used as an immobilisation matrix due to its large surface area,making it a highly desirable matrix for use in immobilising enzymes as preparation for use on the industrial scale.The objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of different acids for functionalisation on immobilisation capacity and also to characterize the functionalized activated carbon for the functional groups present.Materials and methods:Activated carbon was functionalised with three acids(hydrochloric acid,nitric acid and sulphuric acid)along with a control sample washed with distilled water.Immobilisation capacity was calculated with hydrochloric acid functionalized activated carbon(HCl-FAC)giving the highest immobilization capacity(6.022 U/g).Characterisation of the functionalised activated carbon was conducted using FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infra-Red)spectroscopy analysis of the samples with the aim of analyzing the various functional groups present to determine the sample with distinct characteristics thus telling the degree of adsorption of lipase onto the activated carbon powder.Results:HNO3-FAC(functionalized activated carbon)showed a very distinct pattern as a larger number of surface functional groups emerged.The immobilisation on a matrix ensures thermal stability and increased reusability of the enzyme.Therefore,in this research,lipase sourced from Candida antarctica was immobilised on acid functionalised activated carbon.The best acid for functionalisation was found to be hydrochloric acid.Conclusion:Due to the very distinct patterns shown by the FT-IR spectrum of the HNO3-FAC after a fair comparison with others,it allows for a larger number of surface functional groups which will definitely enhance the stability of the enzyme lipase.Nassereldeen A Kabbashi Yara Hunud Abia Kadouf Ibrahim Adebayo Bello Elwathig M.Saeed Lubna Mohamed Musa Nassereldeen Ahmed Kabbashi 2021材料科学与工程(中英文B版)2021,11,2:0
17Serum leptin level in Sudanese women with unexplained infertility and its relationship with some reproductive hormones显示文摘BACKGROUND The excessive concentration of leptin has negative effects on all aspects of female reproduction.Despite this established relationship,the exact role of leptin in women’s fertility is not clear enough and needs more clarification.AIM To evaluate the serum leptin levels in Sudanese women and to ascertain the relationship between serum leptin levels and unexplained infertility(UI).METHODS A matched(age and body mass index)case-control study was conducted from March 2021 to February 2022.The study samples were 210 women with UI and 190 fertile women of reproductive age who were attending the maternity hospitals and fertility clinics in Khartoum state Sudan.The serum concentration of leptin and other serum biomarkers were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.RESULTS The results showed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.001)for all examined eight biomarkers.Whereby,leptin,luteinizing hormone(LH)/follicular stimulating hormone(FSH)ratio,prolactin hormone(PRL)and testosterone(T)were significantly higher in the UI group compared with the control group.In contrast,FSH and estradiol(E2)/T ratio were significantly lower in the UI group than in the control group and the effect size test for the difference between the two groups was very large(effect size>0.80),for leptin level,LH/FSH ratio,PRL level,and E2/T ratio,and large(effect size 0.50-≤0.80)for FSH and T.CONCLUSION This study reveals that leptin could be a potential biomarker for UI in Sudanese women and it may be useful for identifying women with a high risk of infertility.Abdullah Abdulslam Abdullah Musa Ahmed Adesina Oladokun Nasir Adam Ibrahim Shahd Nourain Adam 2022World Journal of Biological Chemistry2022,13,5:0

19Comparative study of the characterisation and extraction techniques of polyphenolic compounds from Acacia seyal gum显示文摘Background Acacia seyal gum(ASG)is an abundant source of natural polyphenolic compounds(NPPCs)and antioxidant activity with numerous benefits and is often used in cancer treatment.The type of extraction technique can significantly impact the yield and isolation of NPPCs from ASG.The traditional use of maceration extraction reportedly yields fewer NPPCs.Objectives This study investigated five extraction techniques for NPPCs and ASG antioxidant activity,namely:homogenisation,shaking,ultrasonication,magneticstirring,andmaceration.Materials and methods The evaluation of the antioxidant activity(AoA)of the extracted NPPCs from ASG used five assays,namely:total flavonoids content,Folin-Ciocalteu index,2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity,ferric reducing antioxidant power,and cupric reducingantioxidantcapacity.Results To minimise the data set dimensionality requires principal component analysis.The ultrasonic and maceration techniques were the best techniques to extract NPPCs and examine the AoA of ASG,with a high correlation between the NPPCs and AoA.However,the maceration process was slow(12 h)compared to ultrasonication(1 h).Slow extraction can result in a decline of the NPPCs due to polyphenol oxidase-enzyme and impact productivity.Conclusions These findings provide an essential guide for the choice of extraction techniques for the effective extraction of NPPCs from ASG and other plant materials.Ahmed A.M.Elnour Mohamed E.S.Mirghani Nassereldeen A.Kabbashi Khalid Hamid Musa Fahimeh Shahabipour Nureddin Ashammakhi Nour Hamid Abdurahman 2022Food Quality and Safety2022,6,1:0
20Prevalence of human leishmaniasis in Sudan: A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND There are three main forms of leishmaniasis in humans:cutaneous leishmaniasis(CL),visceral leishmaniasis(VL),and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis.The prevalence of human leishmaniasis varies widely in different countries and different regions of the same country.To date,there is no overall estimation of the prevalence of human leishmaniasis in Sudan.AIM To determine the pooled prevalence of human leishmaniasis and the disease risk factors among Sudanese citizens.METHODS From all articles written in English or Arabic languages conducted before the 4th of August 2021 from[Scopus,Web of Science,PubMed,and MEDLINE,African Journals Online(AJOL),ResearchGate,direct Google search,Google Scholar,and universities websites], just 20 articles with a total of 230960 participants were eligible for thisstudy. Data synthesis and analysis were done using STATA software, version 16. EndNotecitation manager version X9.3.3 and Reference Citation Analysis (RCA) were used to remove theduplicated studies and manage the citation respectively.RESULTSThe overall pooled prevalence of human leishmaniasis in Sudan was 21% (with confidence interval12%-30%). CL was the most common type of leishmaniasis in Sudan, with a pooled prevalence of26% followed by VL (18%). Nevertheless, the pooled prevalence of human leishmaniasis in Sudanwas higher in males compared with females (60% vs 40%). The current results revealed that thepeople in the age group between 15 and 44 were the most affected group (60%), and central Sudanhas the highest pooled prevalence of human leishmaniasis (27%) compared with other regions ofSudan.
