Presentation delay in breast cancer patients and its association with sociodemographic factors in North Pakistan显示文摘Background: There is strong evidence that delayed diagnosis of breast cancer is associated with poor survival. The objectives were to determine the frequency of breast cancer patients with delayed presentation, the reasons of delay and its association with different socio-demographic variables in our settings. Methods: We interviewed 315 histologically confirmed breast cancer patients. Delay was defined as more than 3 months from appearance of symptoms to the consultation from doctor. Questions were asked from each patient which could reflect their understanding about the disease and which could be the likely reasons for their delayed presentation. Results: A total of 39.01%(n=123) of patients presented late and out of those, 40.7% wasted time using alternative medicines; 25.2% were not having enough resources; 17.1% presented late due to painless lump; 10.6% felt shyness and 6.5% presented late due to other reasons. Higher age, negative family history, <8 school years of education and low to middle socio-economic status were significantly associated with delayed presentation(P<0.05). Education and socioeconomic status were two independent variables related to the delayed presentation after adjustment for others [odds ratios(OR) of 2.26, 2.29 and 95% confidence intervals(CI) was 1.25-4.10, 1.06-4.94 respectively].Conclusions: Significant percentage of women with breast cancer in North Pakistan is experiencing presentation delay due to their misconceptions about the disease. Coordinated efforts with public health department are needed to educate the focused groups and mitigating the barriers identified in the study. Long term impact will be reduced overall burden of the disease in the region. | Muhammad Aleem Khan Sheharyar Hanif Sundas Iqbal Muhammad Faheem Shahzad Sehrish Shafique Muhammad Taha Khan | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2015,27,3: | 1

Effect of tehina processing and storage in the physical-chemical quality显示文摘The effect of tehina processing and storage during six months at 25℃and 35℃on total phenolics, antioxidant activity, anthocyanins, and fatty acid analysis was evaluated.Tehina processing, storage period and temperature significantly(p≤0.05)decreased total phenolics, antioxidant activity and anthocyanins contents. The results showed that raw sesame seeds had the highest total phenolics(99.98 mg GAE/100 g)and lower levels were found in dehulled unroasted sesame seeds, tehina at zero time and roasted sesame seeds(62.53,60.61 and 47.03 mg GAE/100 g,respectively). In addition, tehina during storage showed a significant decrease in total phenolics(60.61 to 42.45 mg GAE/100 g).Raw sesame seeds had the highest antioxidant activity(0.51 mg/mL),while the tehina, dehulled unroasted and roasted sesame had antioxidant activity values of 1.21,1.35 and 1.79 mg/mL,respectively.Also,antioxidant activity of tehina at zero time was highest(1.21 mg/mL)and lowest was in tehina stored for six months(1.70 mg/mL).Sesame seeds and tehina had low levels of anthocyanins(1.26 and 0.50 mg cya-3-glu/100 g).Fatty acid analysis showed that sesame seeds(raw, dehulled unroasted and roasted)and tehina samples contain high percent of unsaturated fatty acid oleic(C18:1)and linoleic(C18:2). | Taha M.Rababah Muhammad Al-U’datt Majdi Al-Mahasneh Mohammad Obaidat Ali Almajwal Aladdin Odeh Susan Brewer Wade Yang | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,5: | 0
Morpholine hydrazone scaffold: Synthesis, anticancer activity and docking studies显示文摘In this paper, synthesis and anticancer activities of morpholine hydrazones scaffold(1-17) thoroughly studied. Small series of morpholine hydrazones synthesized by treating 5-morpholinothiophene-2-carbaldehyde with different aryl hydrazides to form morpholine hydrazones scaffold(1-17). The in vitro anticancer potential of all these compounds was checked against human cancer cell lines like Hep G2(human hepatocellular liver carcinoma) and MCF-7(human breast adenocarcinoma). Analogs 13 had similar substantial cytotoxic effects towards Hep G2 with IC_(50) value 6.31±1.03μmmol/L when compared with the standard Doxorubicin(IC_(50)value 6.00±0.80μmmol/L); while compounds 5,8 and 9 showed potent cytotoxicity against MCF-7 with IC_(50) value 7.08±0.42μmmol/L, 1.26±0.34μmmol/L and11.22±0.22μmmol/L respectively when compared with the standard Tamoxifen(IC_(50)= 11.00±0.40μmol/L). Molecular docking studies also performed to understand the binding interaction. | Muhammad Taha Syed Adnan Ali Shah Muhammad Afifi Manar Zulkeflee Sadia Sultan Abdul Wadood Fazal Rahim Nor Hadiani Ismail | 2017 | Chinese Chemical Letters2017,28,3: | 0
Outcomes in patients with COVID-19 and new onset heart blocks: Insight from the National Inpatient Sample database显示文摘BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has resulted in a worldwide health crisis since it first appeared.Numerous studies demonstrated the virus’s predilection to cardiomyocytes;however, the effects that COVID-19 has on the cardiac conduc-tion system still need to be fully understood.AIM To analyze the impact that COVID-19 has on the odds of major cardiovascular complications in patients with new onset heart blocks or bundle branch blocks(BBB).METHODS The 2020 National Inpatient Sample(NIS)database was used to identify patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia with and without high-degree atrioven-tricular blocks(HDAVB)and right or left BBB utilizing ICD-10 codes. The patients with pre-existing pacemakers, suggestive of a prior diagnosis of HDAVB or BBB,were excluded from the study. The primary outcome was inpatient mortality.Secondary outcomes included total hospital charges(THC),the length of hospital stay(LOS),and other major cardiac outcomes detailed in the Results section.Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to adjust for confounders with Stata version 17.RESULTS A total of 1058815 COVID-19 hospitalizations were identified within the 2020 NIS database,of which 3210(0.4%)and 17365(1.6%)patients were newly diagnosed with HDAVB and BBB,respectively. We observed a significantly higher odds of in-hospital mortality, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, sepsis, arrythmias, and acute kidney injury in the COVID-19 and HDAVB group. There was no statistically significant difference in the odds of cerebral infarction or pulmonary embolism.Encounters with COVID-19 pneumonia and newly diagnosed BBB had a higher odds of arrythmias, acute kidney injury, sepsis, need for mechanical ventilation, and cardiogenic shock than those without BBB.However, unlike HDAVB,COVID-19 pneumonia and BBB had no significant impact on mortality compared to patients without BBB.CONCLUSION In conclusion, there is a significantly higher odds of inpatient mortality, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, sepsis, acute kidney injury, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia,THC,and LOS in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and HDAVB as compared to patients without HDAVB.Likewise, patients with COVID-19 pneumonia in the BBB group similarly have a higher odds of supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia, acute kidney injury, sepsis, need for mechanical ventilation, and cardiogenic shock as compared to those without BBB.Therefore,it is essential for healthcare providers to be aware of the possible worse predicted outcomes that patients with new-onset HDAVB or BBB may experience following SARS-CoV-2 infection. | Sami J Shoura Taha Teaima Muhammad Khawar Sana Ayesha Abbasi Ramtej Atluri Mahir Yilmaz Hasan Hammo Laith Ali Chanavuth Kanitsoraphan Dae Yong Park Tareq Alyousef | 2023 | World Journal of Cardiology2023,15,9: | 0
Electrical capacitance volume tomography for measurement soil water infiltration in vessel experiments显示文摘Electrical capacitance volume tomography(ECVT) is a recently-developed technique for real-time,non-invasive 3D monitoring of processes involving materials with strong contrasts in dielectric permittivity. This work is first application of the method to visualization of water flow in soil.We describe the principles behind the method, and then demonstrate its use with a simple laboratory infiltration experiment.32 ECVT sensors were installed on the sides of an empty PVC column.Water was poured into the column at a constant rate, and ECVT data were collected every second. The column was then packed with dry sand and again supplied with water at a constant rate with data collected every second.Data were analyzed to give bulk average water contents, which proved consistent with the water supply rates.Data were also analyzed to give 3D images(216 voxels) allowing visualization of the water distribution during the experiments.Result of this work shows that water infiltration into the soil, wall flow, progress of the unstable wetting front and the final water distribution are clearly visible. | Muhammad Mukhlisin Marlin Ramadhan Baidillah Mohd Raihan Taha | 2014 | Journal of Central South University2014,21,1: | 0
