Measurement of total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of aerial parts of medicinal plant Coronopus didymus显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the total phenolic content and compare the antioxidant activity of various solvent extracts and fractions from the aerial parts of Coronopus didymus through various assays. Methods: Total phenolic content was determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu assay and the in vitro antioxidant activity of a number of different extracts was investigated in a dose-dependent manner with three different methods: the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt(ABTS) and ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP) assays. A flavone was isolated from the most active ethanolic extract with high antioxidant activity using size exclusion chromatography. IC_(50) values were calculated for the DPPH and ABTS methods. The FRAP activity was assessed in terms of μM Fe(II) equivalent. Results: The phenolic content was found to be highest in the ethanol extract(CDA Et; 47.8 mM GAE) and the lowest in the dichloromethane extract(CDA DCM; 3.13 mM GAE). The ethanol extract showed high radical scavenging activity towards DPPH and ABTS radicals with IC_(50) values of(7.80 × 10~2) and(4.32 × 10~2) μg/m L, respectively. The most active ethanol extract had a FRAP value of 1 921.7 μM Fe(Ⅱ) equivalent. The isolated flavone F10C(5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone) was far more effective for scavenging free radicals in the DPPH and ABTS assays with IC_(50) of 43.8 and 0.08 μg/m L, than the standard trolox, with IC_(50) values of 97.5 and 21.1 μg/m L, respectively. In addition, the flavone F10C and the standard ascorbic acid had FRAP values of 1 621.7 and 16 038.0 μM Fe(Ⅱ) equivalents, respectively. Conclusions: The total phenolic content of extracts in decreasing order is ethanol extract(CDA Et)> acetone extract(CDA ACE)> phenolic extract(CDA MW)> n-hexane extract(CDA nHX)> chloroform extract(CDA CHL)> dichloromethane extract(CDA DCM). The ordering of extracts in terms of antioxidant activity from highest to lowest is CDA Et> CDA MW> CDA DCM> CDA CHL> CDA ACE> CDA nHX in DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays. A significant relationship is found between antioxidant potential and total phenolic content, suggesting that phenolic compounds are the major contributors to the antioxidant activity of Coronopus didymus. | Hafiza Noreen Nabil Semmar Muhammad Farman James S.O.McCullagh | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,8: | 9
Mechanical strength of wheat grain varieties influenced by moisture content and loading rate显示文摘Mechanical shear resistance of wheat grain is a significant concern for the designers and researchers related to the design of threshing, handling and processing machinery of the field crops. The grain mechanical properties directly affect the machine geometry and its operational parameters. The present study was carried out to determine the shear resistance of five wheat varieties(Locally names;TD-02,Sindhu-1105,Benazir,China and SKD-118)influenced by moisture content(16.7%,18.7%and 19.5%)and loading rate(3 mm/s,6 mm/s and 9 mm/s).However,some physio-dimensional properties(length, width, thickness, slenderness ratio, surface area and sphericity)were obtained at different moisture contents. The results showed that the shear resistance reduced by increasing the moisture content and loading rate. The average shear resistance decreased from 10.45 N to 3.74 N for 3-9 mm/s loading rate at moisture content of 16.7%to 19.5%.Thus,the maximum correlation(r=0.905)of shear resistance obtained at 16.7%,whereas minimum correlation(r=0.692)obtained at 19.5%.The shear resistance of wheat grain was highly significant(p<0.05)at 9 mm/s for 19.5%.Shear resistance decreased with an increase in the moisture content in the grain whereas deformation is increasing with the increase of moisture content. However, the maximum bulk density of wheat grain obtained at 19.5%for SKD-118,while the minimum obtained at 16.7%for TD-02.It is recommended that the design and modification of wheat grain processing equipment should be executed on the physio-mechanical properties of grain varieties. | Yaoming Li Farman Ali Chandio Zheng Ma Imran Ali Lakhiar Abdul Razaque Sahito Fiaz Ahmad Irshad Ali Mari Umer Farooq Muhammad Suleman | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,4: | 4
Productive performance, egg quality, hematological parameters and serum chemistry of laying hens fed diets supplemented with certain fat-soluble vitamins, individually or combined, during summer season显示文摘This present study aimed to determine the efficacy of supplementing layer diets with vitamin A(0, 8,000 and16,000 IU/kg diet) and vitamin E(0, 250 and 500 mg/kg diet) either individually or in combination on egg production and quality, and blood hematology and chemistry of birds reared under summer conditions. A total of 135 Bovans Brown laying hens were distributed to 9 treatment groups with 5 replicates of 3 hens/pen in a 3 × 3 factorial design. A significant improvement in feed conversion ratio(FCR) was observed as supplementary vitamin A or E increased(P 0.01). Hens fed diets supplemented with 16,000 IU vitamin A plus 500 mg vitamin E/kg diet had the best FCR among all groups. Egg quality traits were not significantly affected by the interaction of vitamin A and vitamin E levels. There was a significant increase in monocytes(P ≤ 0.01)and a decrease in basophils counts(P ≤ 0.05) in response to vitamin E. Significant decreases were observed in packed cell volume(PCV), thyroxine(T_4), alanine transferase(ALT), albumin, total cholesterol and total lipids((P ≤ 0.05 or P ≤ 0.01) P 0.01), and increases were observed in serum concentrations of globulin(P ≤ 0.05)and calcium(P ≤ 0.01) due to vitamin A. The combination of 0 IU vitamin A and 500 mg vitamin E/kg diet had the highest values of PCV(40.09%) and hemoglobin(Hb)(10.33 mg/100 mL) among all groups. Vitamin E raised serum values of total protein, total cholesterol and total lipids(P ≤ 0.05 or P≤ 0.01). Feed intake, FCR,PCV, Hb, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, T_4, ALT and total protein were significantly affected by the interaction of vitamins A and E(P ≤ 0.05 or P ≤ 0.01). The interaction of vitamins A and E was only significant with respect to serum total protein(P ≤ 0.05). It can be concluded that layer diets supplemented with vitamins A and E had good results in alleviating the harmful impacts of high ambient temperature. The combination of 16,000 IU vitamin A and 500 mg vitamin E per kilogram diet is preferable for obtaining better production of laying hens reared under hot summer conditions. | Mohamed E.Abd El-Hack Mahmoud Alagawany Khalid M.Mahrose Muhammad Arif Muhammad Saeed Muhammad A.Arain Rab N.Soomro Farman A.Siyal Sarfraz A.Fazlani Justin Fowler | 2019 | Animal Nutrition2019,,1: | 3

Unordered rule discovery using Ant Colony Optimization显示文摘In this article,a novel unordered classification rule list discovery algorithm is presented based on Ant Colony Optimization(ACO).The proposed classifier is compared empirically with two other ACO-based classification techniques on 26 data sets, selected from miscellaneous domains, based on several performance measures. As opposed to its ancestors, our technique has the flexibility of generating a list of IF-THEN rules with unrestricted order. It makes the generated classification model more comprehensible and easily interpretable. The results indicate that the performance of the proposed method is statistically significantly better as compared with previous versions of AntMiner based on predictive accuracy and comprehensibility of the classification model. | KHAN Salabat BAIG Abdul Rauf ALI Armughan HAIDER Bilal KHAN Farman Ali DURRANI Mehr Yahya ISHTIAQ Muhammad | 2014 | Science China(Information Sciences)2014,57,9: | 1
Engineered Hybrid Materials with Smart Surfaces for Effective Mitigation of Petroleum-Originated Pollutants显示文摘The generation and controlled or uncontrolled release of hydrocarbon-contaminated industrial wastewater effluents to water matrices are a major environmental concern. The contaminated water comes to surface in the form of stable emulsions, which sometimes require different techniques to mitigate or separate effectively. Both the crude emulsions and hydrocarbon-contaminated wastewater effluents contain suspended solids,oil/grease,organic matter, toxic elements, salts, and recalcitrant chemicals.Suitable treatment of crude oil emulsions has been one of the most important challenges due to the complex nature and the substantial amount of generated waste. Moreover, the recovery of oil from waste will help meet the increasing demand for oil and its derivatives. In this context, functional nanostructured materials with smart surfaces and switchable wettability properties have gained increasing attention because of their excellent performance in the separation of oil–water emulsions.Recent improvements in the design, composition, morphology, and fine-tuning of polymeric nanostructured materials have resulted in enhanced demulsification functionalities.Herein,we reviewed the environmental impacts of crude oil emulsions and hydrocarbon-contaminated wastewater effluents.Their effective treatments by smart polymeric nanostructured materials with wettability properties have been stated with suitable examples. The fundamental mechanisms underpinning the efficient separation of oil–water emulsions are discussed with suitable examples along with the future perspectives of smart materials. | Nisar Ali Muhammad Bilal Adnan Khan Farman Ali Mohamad Nasir Mohamad Ibrahim Xiaoyan Gao Shizhong Zhang Kun Hong Hafiz MNIqbal | 2021 | Engineering2021,7,10: | 0
EfficientNet-Based Robust Recognition of Peach Plant Diseases in Field Images显示文摘Plant diseases are a major cause of degraded fruit quality andyield losses. These losses can be significantly reduced with early detection ofdiseases to ensure their timely treatment, particularly in developing countries. In this regard, an expert system based on deep learning model where the expertknowledge, particularly the one acquired by plant pathologist, is recursivelylearned by the system and is applied using a smart phone application for use inthe target field environment, is being proposed. In this paper, a robust diseasedetection method is developed based on convolutional neural network (CNN),where its powerful features extraction capabilities are leveraged to detectdiseases in images of fruits and leaves. The features extraction pipelines ofseveral state-of-the-art pretrained networks are fine-tuned to achieve optimaldetection performance. A novel dataset is collected from peach orchards andextensively augmented using both label-preserving and non-label-preservingtransformations. The augmented dataset is used to study the effects of finetuning the pretrained networks’ feature extraction pipeline as opposed tokeeping the network parameters unchanged. The CNN models, particularlyEfficientNet exhibited superior performance on the target dataset once theirfeature extraction pipelines are fine-tuned. The optimal model is able toachieve 96.6% average accuracy, 90% sensitivity and precision, and 98%specificity on the test set of images. | Haleem Farman Jamil Ahmad Bilal Jan Yasir Shahzad Muhammad Abdullah Atta Ullah | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,4: | 0
Impairments Approximations in Assembled mmWave and Radio Over Fiber Network显示文摘The fiber nonlinearity and phase noise(PN)are the focused impairments in the optical communication system, induced by high-capacity transmission and high laser input power. The channels include high-capacity transmissions that cannot be achieved at the end side without aliasing because of fiber nonlinearity and PN impairments. Thus, addressing of these distortions is the basic objective for the 5G mobile network. In this paper, the fiber nonlinearity and PN are investigated using the assembled methodology of millimeter-wave and radio over fiber(mmWave-RoF).The analytical model is designed in terms of outage probability for the proposed mmWave-RoF system. The performance of mmWave-RoF against fiber nonlinearity and PN is studied for input power, output power and length using peak to average power ratio(PAPR)and bit error rate(BER)measuring parameters. The simulation outcomes present that the impacts of fiber nonlinearity and PNcan be balanced for a huge capacity mmWave-RoF model applying input power carefully. | Muhammad Irfan Farman Ali Fazal Muhammad Saifur Rahman Ammar Armghan Yousaf Khan Faisal Althobiani Rehan Shafiq Mohammed Alshareef Mohammad E.Gommosani | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,12: | 0

EA-RDSP: Energy Aware Rapidly Deployable Wireless Ad hoc System for Post Disaster Management显示文摘In post disaster scenarios such as war zones floods and earthquakes, the cellular communication infrastructure can be lost or severely damaged. In such emergency situations, remaining in contact with other rescue response teams in order to provide inputs for both headquarters and disaster survivors becomes very necessary. Therefore,in this research work,a design, implementation and evaluation of energy aware rapidly deployable system named EA-RDSP is proposed. The proposed research work assists the early rescue workers and victims to transmit their location information towards the remotely located servers. In EA-RDSP,two algorithms are proposed i.e.,Hop count Assignment(HCA)algorithm and Maximum Neighbor Selection(MNS)algorithm. The EA-RDSP contains three types of nodes;the client node sends information about casualty in the disaster area to the server, the relay nodes transmit this information from client node to server nodes via multi-hop transmission, the server node receives messages sent by client node to alert rescue teams. The EAM-RDSP contains three types of nodes;the client node sends information about casualty in the disaster area to the server, the relay nodes transmit this information from client node to server nodes via multi-hop transmission, the server node receives messages sent by client node to alert rescue teams. The proposed EA-RDSP scheme is simulated using NS2 simulator and its performance is compared with existing scheme in terms of end-to-end delay, message delivery ratio, network overhead and energy consumption. | Ajmal Khan Mubashir Mukhtar Farman Ullah Muhammad Bilal Kyung-Sup Kwak | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,11: | 0
Fractal Fractional Order Operators in Computational Techniques for Mathematical Models in Epidemiology显示文摘New fractional operators, the COVID-19 model has been studied in this paper. By using different numericaltechniques and the time fractional parameters, the mechanical characteristics of the fractional order model areidentified. The uniqueness and existence have been established. Themodel’sUlam-Hyers stability analysis has beenfound. In order to justify the theoretical results, numerical simulations are carried out for the presented methodin the range of fractional order to show the implications of fractional and fractal orders. We applied very effectivenumerical techniques to obtain the solutions of themodel and simulations. Also, we present conditions of existencefor a solution to the proposed epidemicmodel and to calculate the reproduction number in certain state conditionsof the analyzed dynamic system. COVID-19 fractional order model for the case of Wuhan, China, is offered foranalysis with simulations in order to determine the possible efficacy of Coronavirus disease transmission in theCommunity. For this reason, we employed the COVID-19 fractal fractional derivative model in the example ofWuhan, China, with the given beginning conditions. In conclusion, again the mathematical models with fractionaloperators can facilitate the improvement of decision-making for measures to be taken in the management of anepidemic situation. | Muhammad Farman Ali Akgül Mir Sajjad Hashemi Liliana Guran Amelia Bucur | 2024 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2024,138,2: | 0
