2Larvicidal activity of green synthesized silver nanoparticles using bark aqueous extract of Ficus racemosa against Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex gelidus显示文摘Objective:To investigate the larvicidal activity of synthesized silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs) utilizing aqueous bark extract of Ficus racemosa(F.racemosa) was tested against fourth instar larvae of filariasis vector,Culex quinquefasciatus(Cx.quinquefasciatus) and japanese encephalitis vectors,Culex gelidus(Cx.gelidus).Methods:The synthesized Ag NPs was characterized by UV-vis spectrum,X-ray diffraction(XRD),Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR).The larvicidal activities were assessed for 24 h against the larvae of Cx.quinquefasciatus and Cx.gelidus with varying concentrations of aqueous bark extract off.racemosa and synthesized Ag NPs.LC50 and r2 values were calculated.Results:The maximum efficacy was observed in crude aqueous extract of F.racemosa against the larvae of Cx.quinquefasciatus and Cx.gelidus(LC50=67.72 and 63.70 mg/L;r2=0.995 and 0.985) and the synthesized Ag NPs(LC50=12.00 and 11.21 mg/L;r2=0.997 and 0.990).respectively.Synthesized Ag NPs showed the XRD peaks at 2θvalues of 27.61,29.60,35.48,43.48 and 79.68 were identified as (210),(121),(220),(200) and(311) reflections,respectively.The FTIR spectra of Ag NPs exhibited prominent peaks at 3 425,2 878,1 627 and 1 382 in the region 500-3 000 cm-1.The peaks correspond to the presence of a stretching vibration of(NH) C=O group.SEM analysis showed shape in cylindrical,uniform and rod with the average size of 250.60 nm.Conclusions:The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using bark aqueous extract of F.racemosa and its larvicidal activity against the larvae of disease spreading vectors.The maximum larvicidal efficacy was observed in the synthesized Ag NPs.Kanayairam Velayutham Abdul Abdul Rahuman Govindasamy Rajakumar Selvaraj Mohana Roopan Gandhi Elango Chinnaperumal Kamaraj Sampath Marimuthu Thirunavukkarasu Santhoshkumar Moorthy Iyappan Chinnadurai Siva 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,2:2
3Clays as dietary supplements for swine:A review显示文摘Clays are crystalline,hydrated aluminosilicate molecules composed of alkali and alkaline earth cations along with small amounts of various other elements.The best-known are montmorillonite,smectite,illite,kaolinite,biotite and clinoptilolite.The molecules in these clays are arranged in three-dimensional structures creating internal voids and channels capable of trapping a wide variety of molecules.As a result of this structure,clay minerals are regarded as a simple and effective tool for the prevention of the negative effects of many toxic compounds.Dietary supplementation with clays has been shown to improve weight gain and feed conversion in pigs.Where improvements in performance have been noted,one of the most likely explanations for the improvement is the fact clays increase nutrient digestibility.Clays reduce the speed of passage of feed along the digestive tract which allows more time for digestion.Feeding clays also causes morphological changes in the intestinal mucosa such as an increase in villus height and an increase in the villus height to crypt depth ratio.These changes increase the surface area of the gastrointestinal tract thus increasing nutrient digestibility.Several studies have indicated that feeding clay reduces the incidence,severity and duration of diarrhea in pigs.The mechanism for the reduction in diarrhea is likely due to increases in the numbers of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus and decreases in Clostridia and E.coli in the small intestine of pigs fed clays.In addition,the numbers of pigs born alive and weaned,birth weight and weaning weight have been shown to be higher for sows fed clays.Several studies have indicated that clays can help mitigate the effects of mycotoxins.The aim of the present review is to focus on the various clays which have been given attention in recent research and to discuss their potential to improve pig performance.Mohana Devi Subramaniam In Ho Kim 2016Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1:2
