1Levels of matrix metalloproteinase-1 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the levels of preoperative serum matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in gastric cancer.METHODS:One hundred gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy were enrolled in this study.The serum concentrations of MMP-1 and TIMP-1 in these patients and in fifty healthy controls were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS:Higher serum MMP-1 and TIMP-1 levels were observed in patients than in controls (P < 0.001).Serum MMP-1 and TIMP-1 levels were positively associated with morphological appearance,tumor size,depth of wall invasion,lymph node metastasis,liver metastasis,perineural invasion,and pathological stage.They were not significantly associated with age,gender,tumor location,or histological type.CONCLUSION:Increased MMP-1 and TIMP-1 were associated with gastric cancer.Although these markers are not good markers for diagnosis,these markers show in advanced gastric cancer.Ozgur Kemik Ahu Sarbay Kemik Aziz Sümer Ahmet Cumhur Dulger Mine Adas Huseyin Begenik Ismail Hasirci Ozkan Yilmaz Sevim Purisa Erol Kisli Sefa Tuzun Cetin Kotan 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,16:10
2Spontaneous calcaneal fracture in patients with diabetic foot ulcer: Four cases report and review of literature显示文摘Spontaneous calcaneal fractures in diabetic patients without obvious trauma may occur, sometimes accompanying diabetic foot ulcers. In the current study we report four cases who were hospitalized for diabetic foot ulcer with concomitant calcaneal fractures. There were four diabetic patients(one type 1 and three type 2) who registered with diabetic foot ulcers with coexisting calcaneal fractures, all of which were classified as Type A according to Essex Lopresti Calcaneal Fracture Classification. Two of the patients with renal failure were in a routine dialysis program, as well as vascular compromise and osteomyelitis in all of the patients. The diabetic foot ulcer of the 61 years old osteoporotic female patient healed with local debridement, vacuum assisted closure and then epidermal growth factor while the calcaneal fracture was then followed by elastic bandage. In two patients could not prevent progression of diabetic foot ulcers and calcaneal fractures to consequent below-knee amputation. The only patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus improved with antibiotic therapy and split thickness skin grafting, while the calcaneal fracture did not heal. In the current study we aimed to emphasize the spontaneous calcaneal fractures as possible co-existing pathologies in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. After all the medical treatment, amputation below knee had to be performed in 2 patients. 4Effects of the myeloperoxidase 463 gene polymorphisms on development of atrophy in H pylori infected or noninfected gastroduodenal disease显示文摘AIM: To investigate the relationship between myelo- peroxidase polymorphisms as a host-related factor and atrophy caused by H pylori. METHODS: Our study enrolled 77 patients. Biopsy materials obtained during gastrointestinal endoscopies were evaluated for the presence of H pylori. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay was used to characterize myeloperoxidase genotypes. RESULTS: Forty four patients (57.1%) were Hp (+) and 33 (42.9%) were Hp (-). Sixty six (85.7%) had GG genotype, 10 (12.9%) had GA genotype and 1 (1.29%) had AA genotype. The change in atrophy in relation to neutrophil infiltration was significant in Hp (+) patients (P = 0.0001). The change in atrophy in relation to neutrophil infiltration in patients with GG genotype was significant (P = 0.002). However, the change in atrophy in relation to neutrophil infiltration was not significiant in patients with Hp (+) GG genotype (r = 0.066, P = 0.63). CONCLUSION: Myeloperoxidase genotype is critical for development of atrophy in relation to the severity of inflammation. 9Zinc in plants:Integrating homeostasis and biofortification显示文摘Zinc plays many essential roles in life.As a strong Lewis acid that lacks redox activity under environ-mental and cellular conditions,the Zn2+cation is central in determining protein structure and catalytic function of nearly 10%of most eukaryotic proteomes.While specific functions of zinc have been elucidated at a molecular level in a number of plant proteins,wider issues abound with respect to the acquisition and distribution of zinc by plants.An important challenge is to understand how plants balance between Zn supply in soil and their own nutritional requirement for zinc,particularly where edaphic factors lead to a lack of bioavailable zinc or,conversely,an excess of zinc that bears a major risk of phyto-toxicity.Plants are the ultimate source of zinc in the human diet,and human Zn deficiency accounts for over 400000 deaths annually.Here,we review the current understanding of zinc homeostasis in plants from the molecular and physiological perspectives.We provide an overview of approaches pursued so far in Zn biofortification of crops.Finally,we outline a'push-pull'model of zinc nutrition in plants as a simplifying concept.In summary,this review discusses avenues that can potentially deliver wider bene-fits for both plant and human Zn nutrition.Camilla Stanton Dale Sanders Ute Krämer Dorina Podar 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,1:3

11Primary sclerosing cholangitis in Turkish patients:characteristic features and prognosis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by destruction and fibrosis of the bile ducts.This study aimed to demonstrate the hepatic and extrahepatic characteristic findings and prognostic outcomes of Turkish patients with PSC. METHODS:The medical records of 35 consecutive patients with PSC from January 1988 to June 2007 were recorded prospectively.From the time of diagnosis,clinical features and laboratory data were collected. RESULTS:The mean age of the 35 patients was 41.69 years (range 15-80 years)at the time of diagnosis;14(40%)were female,and 21(60%)were male.The mean duration of follow-up was 58.86 months(1-180 months).Twenty(57.1%) of the patients with PSC were asymptomatic and 22(62.9%) had inflammatory bowel disease.At the time of diagnosis, 20(57.1%)of the patients had both intra-and extra-hepatic PSC.Twenty-one(60%)of the patients,who had undergone ERCP for stent placement,had dominant bile duct stenosis. Cholangiocarcinoma was found in 2(5.7%)of the patients and cirrhosis was detected in 7(20%);5(14.3%)underwent liver transplantation.The median follow-up time after liver transplantation was 23 months and all are still alive.Six (17.1%)patients died. CONCLUSIONS:PSC has a clinical course varied from advanced liver disease requiring liver transplantation within a short time to being asymptomatic for decades. 13Assessment of air pollution genotoxicity by RAPD in Evernia prunastri L. Ach. from around iron-steel factory in Karabk, Turkey显示文摘Lichens are widely used in biomonitoring studies of air pollution, either as bioindicators of air quality or as bioaccumulators of atmospheric deposition. Over the past decade, several molecular techniques have been developed to provide information on diversity, genotoxicology, genetic relationships, etc. The heavy metal contents of Evernia prunastri samples were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (RAPD-PCR) method was used to describe the pattern of DNA band variation in the samples influenced by the environmental pollution. The study was designed to describe the level of pollution in an area contaminated with smoke and waste from an iron-steel factory, and to reveal the level of potential genotoxic agents around this source of pollution. 15Extrusion-based additive manufacturing of Mg-Zn alloy scaffolds显示文摘Porous biodegradable Mg and its alloys are considered to have a great potential to serve as ideal bone substitutes.The recent progress in additive manufacturing(AM) has prompted its application to fabricate Mg scaffolds with geometrically ordered porous structures.Extrusionbased AM,followed by debinding and sintering,has been recently demonstrated as a powerful approach to fabricating such Mg scaffolds,which can avoid some crucial problems encountered when applying powder bed fusion AM techniques.However,such pure Mg scaffolds exhibit a too high rate of in vitro biodegradation.In the present research,alloying through a pre-alloyed Mg-Zn powder was ultilized to enhance the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of AM geometrically ordered Mg-Zn scaffolds simultaneously.The in vitro biodegradation behavior,mechanical properties,and electrochemical response of the fabricated Mg-Zn scaffolds were evaluated.Moreover,the response of preosteoblasts to these scaffolds was systematically evaluated and compared with their response to pure Mg scaffolds.The Mg-Zn scaffolds with a porosity of 50.3% and strut density of 93.1% were composed of the Mg matrix and MgZn2second phase particles.The in vitro biodegradation rate of the Mg-Zn scaffolds decreased by 81% at day 1,as compared to pure Mg scaffolds.Over 28 days of static immersion in modified simulated body fluid,the corrosion rate of the Mg-Zn scaffolds decreased from 2.3± 0.9 mm/y to 0.7±0.1 mm/y.The yield strength and Young’s modulus of the Mg-Zn scaffolds were about 3 times as high as those of pure Mg scaffolds and remained within the range of those of trabecular bone throughout the biodegradation tests.Indirect culture of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts in Mg-Zn extracts indicated favorable cytocompatibility.In direct cell culture,some cells could spread and form filopodia on the surface of the Mg-Zn scaffolds.Overall,this study demonstrates the great potential of the extrusion-based AM Mg-Zn scaffolds to be further developed as biodegradable bone-substituting biomaterials.J.Dong N.Tümer M.A.Leeflang P.Taheri L.E.Fratila-Apachitei J.M.C.Mol A.A.Zadpoor J.Zhou 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,9:2

18Development of Chromium(Ⅲ)-selective Potentiometric Sensor by Using Synthesized Pyrazole Derivative as an lonophore in PVC Matrix and its Applications显示文摘A novel poly(vinyl chloride)membrane potentiometric sensor for chromium(Ⅲ)ions based on the use of 5,5′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(3-(naphthalen-1-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carbothioamide)as a neutral ionophore was developed.The optimum composition of the best performing membrane contained ionophore,potassium tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)borate(KTpClPB),dibutyl phthalate(DBP),and poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC)in the ratio of 5.5:1.5:55:38(mg).The sensor exhibits a working concentration range of 1.0×10^(-5)-1.0×10^(-1 )mol L^(−1) and a detection limit of 1.7×10^(-6) mol L^(−1).The sensor shows good selectivity for chromium(III)ions over a number of cations including alkali,alkaline earth,heavy and transition metals.The response time of the sensor is 8 s.In addition,the developed sensor shows good reusability and stability.The sensor operates in the wide pH range of 5.0-11.0.The sensor could be used as an indicator electrode in the quantification of Cr^(3+)ions by potentiometric titration against ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA).Finally,this sensor was successfully used for the determination of chromium(III)in commercial water,purification water and wastewater.Ömer Isildak OguzÖzbek Meliha Burcu Gürdere 2020Journal of Analysis and Testing2020,4,4:2
